Brazilian developer Studio Pixel Punk released an unexpected hit last year with the pixel art Metroidvania Unsighted. Using a timer to add to the game's tension, you had to try and reach your friends before they turned into the Unsighted. We adored it, and gave the game a 9/10 in our review, which you can read here:
Now, Limited Run Games has announced that the game will be getting two limited-timed physical editions — one standard and one collector's edition.
Pre-orders open for both editions on 27th May at 7:00am PDT / 10:00am EDT / 3:00pm BST / 4:0pm CET. But first, before you jump into those pre-orders, let's see what you get with the collector's edition!
Coming in a SNES-style box, the collector's edition includes:
- Physical Copy of UNSIGHTED for Switch
- 18" x 24" UNSIGHTED Poster
- UNSIGHTED Original Soundtrack
- Acrylic Keychain
It's a nice little selection of goodies, especially for the quality of the game and the goods! This big box will cost $64.99. But if that's out of your budget, the standard edition will be $34.99.
Head on over to Limited Run Games' page right here to take a look at both editions, and you'll have until 27th June to get your orders in.
Let us know if you've played Unsighted or if you're thinking of picking up one of these physical editions in the comments!

I also scored the game 9/10. It was really great.
It’s on my list. Too many games are out now. I really, really need a game drought. Or free time.
"top-down metroidvania" doesn't make sense.
I see in the initial review people also called-out the tendency to call everything a metroidvania.
I hadn't heard of or seen this game before, but it does look rather interesting! from the screenshots anyway, not the box art.
Combat is excellent in this game. Really tight controls.
Pretty good game to play coop! Recommended if you like classic Zelda-like games like Death's Door (DD is better, though).
@tyranny_life Classic Zeldas are pretty much top-down metroidvanias, if you think about it. They're basically games about exploring a map and progress to open new places you couldn't access before.
Damn, even classic survival horror games like Resident Evil could be called metroidvanias XD
@tyranny_life it’s a metroidvania to the extent you revisit previously inaccessible areas with new power ups. It’s isometric.
Anyway really cool game. 8/10 for me, sunk 20 hours into it.
Good game, regularly drops to around £14 on the eshop.
@the_beaver @conditionals
That sounds like adventure (exploration?) games to me.
In my mind metroidvania needs some decent platforming and definitely is side-scrolling. I'm a Metroid fan, and a huge Castlevania fan! (One of my all-time favorite series)
Bought this months ago and STILL haven’t had a chance to play it yet. Will I still get the physical edition? YEP 😳
@tyranny_life But the metroidvania genre could perfectly well be called 2D exploration/adventure game, or something like that.
PS: Metroid Prime could perfectly well be considered a metroidvania game, and it's not side-scrolling.
If it wasn't Limited Run which their mental shipping fees I would definitely get it.
But, I probably will cave by the closing date for pre-order
@the_beaver The genre isn't called metroidvania, journalists call it that. it's actually an action adventure platformer with RPG elements. But that's a mouthful so everyone goes with metroidvania. it's not a real genre.
Excellent - I’ve had this wishlisted for a long time and would love to own physically.
Seeing it in action now, it’s so similar to Hyperlight Drifter, I think I’m guaranteed to enjoy it. The time limit will stress me out but keep me engaged. I bet my first playthrough will end prematurely because I’ll give away all my meteor dust to friends, lest their deaths be on my conscience!
@BenAV Never Heard of this game till now. Is it really that good?
@Spoony_Tech Its gameplay is really fun and it's well polished. It has a really interesting time limit mechanic that forces you to play with a bit of urgency (while also trying to explore, find secrets and solve puzzles) with significant consequences if you waste too much time. I think you can turn it off if you wanted a more relaxed time but I thought that it really added to the experience.
@Spoony_Tech @BenAV Just jumping on here to say that yes, you can turn it off, but imo it defeats a lot of the purpose of the game. I think it's a fairly solid game without the time limits - it's enjoyable, with some cool dungeons and puzzles, interesting abilities, and some great bosses, but nothing particularly noteworthy. However, with the time limit the game is wonderful. Every decision you do matters, every character you consider giving meteor dust to extend their time limit, every character who dies, it's just full of excellent decisions and a constant underlying tension. It's that tension that makes the game so memorable to me
@BranJ0 I'm right there with you. But I know there are some people who won't go near a game if they hear the words time limit so for them it's probably better to experience the game with it turned off rather than not at all if those are the two options, haha.
@conditionals metroidvania has become the next "RPG" in that the term is so vaguely used it has no identity.
If anything that involves exploration and unlocking paths fits the bill, Super Mario World is a metroidvania. You have to unlock the colored blocks to access a lot of the map.
Anyone elses heart drops when they see its from Limited Run games
Stop calling action adventure games Metroidvanias.
This is a good reminder that I need to get back to this game. I may restart from the beginning, since there are a couple of mistakes I made early on in terms of prioritization, and it's been a while anyway, so I don't really remember what I needed to do.
Also, I tend to agree that non-sidescrollers aren't really metroidvanias, but I get the comparison here. The story progression/exploration cycle feels a bit more akin to a metroidvania than a Zelda-like. Perhaps Unsighted is a (cursed nouveau-neologism incoming) metroidvani-lite
@BenAV Yeah I completely agree, it's a difficult one! I think if someone said they were put off my the time limits, I would try and reassure them that it's not as debilitating as it sounds, and that it's definitely worth giving a go because you can turn it off whenever. But yeah, if someone would absolutely not play this with timers, then you're right, it's much better they play it with no timers than don't play it at all!
@tyranny_life Definitely check out Unsighted! It may fall foul of the 'everything is called a metroidvania' mistake but it has cool combat, exploration and isometric platforming! Plus really great art and atmosphere.
@BranJ0 @BenAV Thanks guys, I'll definitely have to check it out as the action alone looks really good.
Never heard of this game before...just added it to my GoG wishlist.
LOL top-down metroidvania.
@pjzx
Mine does the opposite, but I understand where your coming from. Buying physical ain't easy...!
How did I ever miss this game?! But I’ll just buy it when it hits the Limited Run physical store up the street from me. Besides, I still need to go back and finish Cross Code, which seems a bit similar.
I remember comparing super metroid to zelda the first time i played it (as a child.) super metroid is side scrolling, sci fi zelda, im saying it.
but a "metroidvania" is a side scrolling platformer with exploration, generally a map, and a single large finite space. (oh, and 🤮 "RPG elements" -ed.) zelda is not this.
and yeah its a dumb name and not a real genre and everything else everyone has already said. thank you.
