When Nintendo announced the NES Classic Edition / Classic Mini, it missed a trick. This most retro-tastic of systems needed an '80s-style advert and for some reason there wasn't one forthcoming.
Thankfully our video man Alex is always up for a challenge, so he's produced the TV commercial that Nintendo didn't. Oh yes, he does what Nintendon't (that was never grammatically correct, but SEGA was too RADICAL to care).
If this doesn't make you want one of the cool little systems, then maybe you're not rad enough for this 'bad' (in a good way, cos '80s) ad.

It's a mastapeece.
Job well done. Nintendo should air that on television.
Nice.
@nekudopap Hey, mods? I think I found some spam. Do I win anything?
@nekudopap Right...
Anyway... what a cool advert!
Going the extra mile!(well done!)
@NintendoFan64 ...I think all of the other mods died, or went on vacation or something...and I can't ban yet...T.T
@NintendoFan64 You win our undying gratitude (I've reported it too).
(I'm not technically on the mod team, so don't want to interfere directly)
@ThomasBW84 Hooray! I won something!
@Tsurii But only adults get the double entendre. It's the perfect crime.
Beautiful commercial. Just needed a snippet of a hi-c commercial starting right after it...
I love you Alex.
The wibbly-wobbly effects were a little too strong in my opinion. If you toned those down a bit I might've thought it was pretty legit.
@ThomasBW84 I'd send news of the original Darksiders getting ported by Nordic Games to the Wii U through the usual channels but I never seem to get anywhere that way. So this is more direct. We've heard the rumours, now there's a little more evidence.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Ta!
Friggin love it.
Well done guys.
@ThomasBW84 I did too.
@andrew20 Appreciated, I've had a look into it and there's an article up soon.
Cool ad, though went way too heavy with the 80's VHS effect.
@nekudopap "I don't get out of bed for less than $10,000 a day."
It's not available to preorder anywhere in America... Sold out of stock already?
Not a bad effort at all. lol
@NintendoFan64 Now THAT is the kind of stuff I'm 100% fine with the MODs going to town on. Kudos for spotting it; they really hid it well.
Is it bad that I didn't initially think he was talking about blowing cartridges...
Ha ha!
What's wrong with your tape, dude? I've never seen one that bad. Still, that commercial was cool and totally needs some airtime between cartoons.
Nice, need to adjust the tracking though.
I earn £96 an hour from home playing my NES Classic Edition, and I never even have to open a Chamber Lid! Learn more at nintendolife.com!
@Ras ...Yeah let's not mock the bots....>.>
I think the tracking is broken on the VCR.
All that was missing were a pair of cool shades and a leather jacket on Alex and maybe a mullet...? (ducks in preemptive cover)
MASTERPIECE!!!! It's even in full screen, too!
Edit: I have ONE complaint. The perfect sound doesn't match the video quality, if you know what I mean.
Yeeey!, very good.
well, only miss a tiny thing...
a famous NES and Nintendo slogan:
"Now you are playing with power"
"Stop blowing and start playing!"
I died. XD This was well done! Nintendo should air this.
It would have been good, but believe it or not, most peoples TVs worked just fine in the 80s.
Awesome commercial, now do the same one but in plasma TV style instead of the RF CRT quality.
Awesome sauce! I mean.... Totally radical, man!
I have to say, I'm impressed with Alex's American accent. I didn't even recognize him at first.
My eyes!!! @ThomasBW84 You might want to be careful the video made me feel physically ill and it wouldn't surprise me if it could cause someone to have a seizure. That said, the commercial itself was pretty rad!
Disappointing. I was expecting more leg.
Awesome video, Nintendo should commission you for their advertising department. True retro Nintendo advertising goodness.
@Rukiafan7
I second that. I didn't have any reaction, but I'm very conscious about these sort of things and want everything to be very tame and safe.
Nintendo Life, we demand you to edit it to be more eye-friendly.
I.e.: Taking away the nausea and video spasms.
I've seen 1970s commercials that weren't half as bad as that was.
Actual Video Authenticity And Editing: 10/10
Video Score Overall: -10/10 "-10/10".
Awesome!
Missing the sloagan.
Now you are playing with power! Classic power!
I was on the fence whether to buy the full unit or just the pad. This advert has made we want the full unit. So the advert has worked.
You should invoice Nintendo, Alex.
Now I need to buy this... Damn you Alex
Could have been even wackier, with people blown out of their seats and stuff!
Nice one Alex!
Lol. Great job
Ok everyone keeps saying "adjust your tracking," but I thought it was just exaggerated "rad 80s TV FX" and now I want a Mini NES.
Loved the surreal humor of "play with controllers from the future" the best though.
Ok, video quality wasn't that bad back in the day. It's like watching a futuristic movie when they show digital breakup in the video signal. I guess in the future our video signals will be worse than they are now. Whatever.
Hahahahaha...
wait, when did Alex change his name to Miles?
Funny, I could have sworn that Nintendo Life was a UK site- not an American one.
A magnificent creation! Now ask @Damo to get it organised that we get a video with it on as a free gift with the next issue of Retro Gamer!
Can't wait to stop blowing and get playing!
I love it all. I want to ball this up and shove it up my nose.
10 out 10 nice job guys
this has been ogo79 approved.
Haha was Alex going for an American accent on this? Anyway, good stuff.
Hey, you did the "American accent" (lol, that's the surreal thing here) pretty well! Now do a commercial with zany 80s and 90s geometric patterns swirling around while you're screaming about how awesome the high octane action is, like you're in a fevered drug trip! Then the transformation will be complete...
Great phony American accent Alex, whahaha!
Heh, excellent.
OMG I am so excited!! I'm following updates at http://www.liovinci.com/i/nintendo-entertainment-system
