Roughly a month ago, Minecraft: Wii U Edition received a fairly substantial update where a new multiplayer competitive arena mode was added in. A few updates followed to fix issues with this, among other things, and it's been several weeks since the last update was pushed out. Now, a new update is due out sometime this week, which appears set to add a little more content and fix some niggling issues.
The patch is expected to arrive either today or sometime this week. Most notably, it's adding another Battle Mode map pack, along with a new skin pack. There are some other bug fixes included, here's the full list of what's being adjusted:
- Added Battle Map Pack 2 (Atlantis, Ruin and Siege).
- Added the Redstone Specialists Skin Pack.
- Made changes to some item textures in the City Texture Pack, Fantasy Texture Pack and Greek Mythology Mash-up Pack, so that they are more easily identifiable in Battle mini games.
- Battle Mini Game: Fix to display player names above crouching players when in Showdown mode in a Battle mini game.
- Battle Mini Game: Fix to allow thrown potions to go through non-solid blocks (e.g. Vines, Tall Grass).
- Battle Mini Game: Fix to stop non-solid blocks obstructing player attacks.
- Battle Mini Game: Fixed a couple of holes in the Cove Battle mini game map.
- Battle Mini Game: Fix to remove all Mob heads from the player's inventory, except any that are currently being worn, when transitioning from the Lobby to a Battle mini game map.
- Battle Mini Game: Fix to automatically replace Mob heads in the armour slot, when a Helmet is collected in a Battle mini game.
- Battle Mini Game: Disabled "Take Everything" in the Lobby.
- Battle Mini Game: Added Select All / Deselect All tooltip(s) to the Select Maps menu.
- Fix for an issue with hills generation.
- Fix for an issue causing some Blazes to not perform their attacks after becoming aggressive towards the player.
- Fix to allow renamed items to be traded with a Villager.
- Fixed a duplication bug.
- Fix to remove the redundant option for creating White Wool within the crafting menu using 1x White Wool to create.
- Fix for an issue where a Pig struck by a lightning turns into a Zombie Pigman without a Golden Sword.
- Fix for an incorrect death message when the player is killed by lightning.
- Fix for some issues with achievements (including Passing The Time achievement).
It's nice to see Mojang continuing to support the Wii U version as needed; hopefully this will continue long into the future.

Good news, as always.
(I hope nobody sees that I originally posted just the world 'Good' and edited it. jk)
@buildz It's perfectly fine. Nobody would ever have a problem with something trivial like that.
And as you say, it is good. They haven't just thrown the game out there and abandoned it.
Nice to see updates but how are we over half a year into the Wii U version and they STILL haven't patched in the GamePad touchscreen crafting/item management that the GamePad was designed for? Hey Mojang and 4J, get on that BEFORE the NX comes out.
I doubt the gamepad will ever have the touchscreen management many long for. It is still not too long of a task to manage stuff anyway. Better they add the version 1.10 stuff from the PC and a Legend of Zelda Anniversary map like they did for Mario in May. That'd be my cup of tea.
The wii u gamepad inventory support could've been what's superior than the ps4 and xbox one version ( not to mention the mario map ) but nope lets not take the most obvious advantage out of all the platforms minecraft is in !!!
Awesome, but you wanna know what I wanna hear about next?
The Legend of Zelda Skin Pack!
The Donkey Kong Skin Pack!
The Metroid/F-Zero/Star Fox Skin Pack!
The Splatoon Skin Pack!
The (gasp!) Pokémon Skin Pack(s)!
The Super Smash Bros. Skin Pack(s)!
Now /those/ would get me /pumped/!
No Zelda pack yet? Then I'll just stick to the PC version.
I got my hopes up for gamepad functionality..again That's what it would take to make me buy a third version of Minecraft.
No gamepad splitscreen yet I bet? :T
I came here to read all the salty comments about not having GamePad inventory in the update.
Since the Mario pack has come out, my 6 year old hasn't played another game besides that. Only issue I have it he is always asking me to reset the console since it's the only game I have that constantly crashes my wii u. Seems like 2-3 times a day but then won't do it again for a week. I can't think of another game that has crashed it even once.
Need to fix the monster spawn rate on hard survival mode. the wii u version is the most boring version of minecraft because even with the most difficult setting you don't see a monster for daaaaaays.
@A01 @TreonsRealm @HydroTendonMan @hieveryone AND everyone who still complaint about the Wii U version touchscreen functionality. The game DOES have touchscreen functionality! Not in the way of a dedicated menu, but you CAN do a lot on the touchscreen like select items, craft, navigate menus, and more. What you CAN'T do is click and drag items, which in turn makes Classic Crafting unstable on the touchscreen.
Would maybe get the game, if they would make use of the gamepad for inventory and crafting etc.
