R-Type was 800 points instead of the usual 600 when it was on the Wii VC as well. The reasoning they gave back then was because in Japan it was released as two games.
If I can't play my own carts then this is pretty much useless to me. Now if those new controllers will work on an actual NES, I could get some use out of them.
Edit: I also wish Nintendo would have let you plug that NES controller into a Wiimote and use it as a classic controller. Oh well.
I'm happy to see the light gun games. I had been wanting Wild Gunman ever since they brought Duck Hunt to the VC, so better late than never I say.
Now I wish Taito would release Operation Wolf to the Wii U VC as the Wii VC version does not support the Wii remote as a Zapper. Taito doesn't seem to be supporting the Wii U VC though, so probably not gonna happen.
At first I was really excited thinking we are gonna get TG16 games again, but most likely we are gonna get the NES version instead. Even though TG16 games are available on the Japanese Wii U VC, I don't think NoA or NoE is interested in launching a new VC system. I would still buy the NES port of this game though.
@OorWullie - Where have you heard rumors of Master System games coming? As far as I know Japan doesn't even have Genesis/Mega Drive games on their VC. Other than a handful of GBA games, Sega hasn't really supported the VC this time around, sadly.
Did the reviewer even play the Wii U version? Going by the Wii U VC trailer on YouTube, player names are NOT in this version. This is something that should be mentioned in the review.
Nintendo really should have put more than 32GB of memory on the Wii U. That was one of my major complaints when the Wii U first launched. They still could revise it now to have more storage, probably with very little increase in cost of production, but with the Wii U winding down they aren't going to.
Why would they be unplayable when the eShop shuts down? You couldn't redownload them, but since the Wii U doesn't require an internet connection to play games you downloaded I don't see why you think they would be unplayable.
I am a huge fan of your work and it's awesome that you are here chatting with us. Could you elaborate more on the legal issues involved with Nintendo releasing the game on, for example, the Virtual Console? Is it a legal issue involving the use of the FX Chip, or the game itself, or both? There is all kind of speculation, but since Nintendo is silent on these issues, maybe you could clear it up for us!
I'll be getting it, just not right away. I wish Nintendo would somehow allow multiplayer for these DS and GBA games... I would even pay extra for that function!
I don't expect Wii VC and WiiWare games to transfer to the next console, but I am very curious about the VC versions of Wii games we have. They use Wii mode to run, so unless they put Wii hardware in their next console or emulate through software, I don't see how they would transfer. Maybe there will be a Wii mode within the Wii U mode...
I think Nintendo missed a huge opportunity by not combining the Wii Shop channel with the eShop from the beginning. We could have had the over 300 VC titles from day 1 and played them like we do the Wii VC games from the Wii U menu. Some Wii U owners may not even know about the Wii Shop Channel in Wii mode, and Nintendo is missing out on sales that they could have had if the two shops were combined. It also would have been nice to let us use the Gamepad for Wii VC and WiiWare games too, but this is more easily forgiven. The lack of a VC at the Wii U's launch was the biggest reason I didn't buy one at launch.
There has been one update to The Letter so far and another is coming soon, but I do wish he would focus more on improving that game instead of spreading himself too thin on other projects. It's really not an awful game, just needs some more content.
Also, this proves that they technically could allow us to have all of our Wii VC and WiiWare games on a Wii U hard drive and boot up through Wii mode using a shortcut. They just won't.
If it just simply shortcuts to Wii mode, why the heck doesn't Nintendo put up their N64 games on the eshop and have them shortcut to Wii mode as well? I swear Nintendo just doesn't like money.
I agree there are scam artists on the eShop (NinjaPig Studios, I'm looking at you). It's just my opinion, but I really don't think Eli is trying to scam anyone. The guy really seems to be trying. Keep in mind too that he had to get approval from Nintendo to put his games on the eShop. Perhaps the eShop isn't the best place for his games, but I would blame Nintendo for that, not Eli.
I'm gonna buy this because Eli is a great guy who really interacts with his fans. He has kept his word about updates to The Letter as well. He has released one and another is on the way. Of course he still has a lot to learn, but he really seems to love making games and I don't feel at all that he is trying to scam anyone. I think if all game designers had his spirit the industry would be much better off.
I agree with Kirk 100%. There should be an adapter for those with old GC controllers and a new GC controller that has all the functionality of a pro controller, maybe even have an optional cord for those worried about lag. I would even pay extra for a controller like that.
The fact that they are making this adapter is so awesome, it's hard to believe they could screw it up. But leave it to Nintendo... As it stands, if they add Wii Mode support and support for other Wii U games, I will pick it up. But not for just one game.
I wonder if he's doing this because he managed to cross the sales threshold. I will download this update, but I am concerned it may take away Rom City Rampage.
I'm ok with the DLC since it gives us more karts to choose from. He's absolutely right though that it is a slippery slope. If the game starts getting flooded with other brands' cars I would have a problem. I think it was a harmless tweet.

Yup, one of my favorite NES games! They should have included it on this console 😜

Re: Launching NX Next Year Is The "Proper" Thing To Do, Says Nintendo Boss Tatsumi Kimishima
That's fine, but could you at least give some details on what the NX even is?
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Needs to Excite A Mainstream Audience in 2016
@Vandy
Were you even alive during the SNES era? People argued all the time back then over which system was more powerful.
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Needs to Excite A Mainstream Audience in 2016
Nintendo should start exciting the hardcore fans.
Re: Review: 1080° Snowboarding (Wii U eShop / N64)
@Dankykong - well you better get to downloading then, because it's already out in NA!
Re: Mario Kart 64 on Wii U VC Doesn't Have Support for Ghost Data
Well, there's always the NX VC version. Maybe they'll fix it then...
Re: Mario Kart 64 on Wii U VC Doesn't Have Support for Ghost Data
In the original game, couldn't you do time trials, but you just couldn't save them? It appears you can't do time trials at all on the VC version.
Re: Nintendo Download: 21st January (North America)
Was hoping for Mario Kart 64 or Wave Race 64, but this is still a great week. Let's hope Nintendo keeps it up!
Speaking of Mario Kart 64, can anyone in Europe check and see if you can save your ghost data this time around?
Re: Video: Five Things We Want From The Nintendo NX
If I can transfer all Wii VC and WiiWare games on top of all Wii U eShop games, I'd buy NX day one.
Re: Nintendo Download: 21st January (Europe)
I'm curious to see if you can save your ghost race data this time. You couldn't on the original Wii VC release.

Yeah same here! I downloaded them as soon as they came back, didn't want to miss them again!

This is the first I have heard of an "online check up" for the eShop. Do you have a link or source for this info?
