Fans of Retro City Rampage on WiiWare will have further cause for celebration as Vblank Entertainment have revealed to us that it will be treated to a free 'DX' update next week on Thursday 13th November.
For ‘DX’, every single mission's been re-tuned; vehicles, weapons, challenges, visual effects, visual enhancements, checkpoints, difficulty, and challenges to name a few. With everything from tweaks to the game’s core to the sprinkles on top such as parking garages and waypoints, it’s more than just a new coat of paint.

This update makes the WiiWare version on par with the other systems, only missing HD video filters and zoom modes. It supports the Wii Remote, Classic Controller and Game Cube Controller, with an optional ‘shake’ gesture exclusive to the Wii Remote.
In addition to this there is more good news for folks in Australia and New Zealand as the game has now received OFLC certification, so you'll be able to play it soon too. Does this make it the last WiiWare game ever to be released? Possibly so!

Still on WiiWare :-/
WiiWare stills exists?
Cool, I'll have to download this though I still hope I get a chance to double-dip and get it on Wii U!
Cool i guess but i have the game on 3DS so this isn't anything i care about.
So is it going to zoom in (That is the main change with DX). Or is it just feature parity with the latest PC version.
That's awesome. I'll have to update mine now.
By the way, is it alright if I use the SD card I used for the system transfer to bring LostWinds over, or should I use a different card?
Was not expecting this to ever happen, nice.
Wat...I get to update a Wiiware game, hell, I get to update something on the Wii!? WHAT SORCERY IS THIS!?
No, but seriously, happy to see some sort of update on my Wii, it got abandoned after the 3DS & Wii U came out in terms of updates
Welp I never bought the updated 3DS game, but now I have less of a reason to get that version, portability doesn't matter to me that much.
why cant they do an update? lostwings style
@Shotgunryugan Couple of days or weeks ago they actually updated the System Transfer thing
I have the WiiWare version, but haven't really started playing it yet. Nice to know I'll be playing the updated version on par with the others when I do. It's also nice to see developers who take so much pride in their work that they updated a game on a dead service that is making them practically no money. Thank you, Vblank.
I wish he would put it on the WiiU shop.
You can patch a game on Wii? WITHOUT A SEPARATE CUMBERSOME CHANNEL OR SYSTEM UPDATE? What sorcery is this?
Anyway, this guy is really generous doing this despite knowing that he'll never make any money on this version of the game.
i have it on 3ds but i would love a wiiu update its a fun game that needs the love
Not bad! Have it on 3DS as well, but being able to update the Wii version is a nice bonus.
They don't know about the Wii U eShop or what?
Excellent! The reason why I never upgraded to the 3DS version was because I never finished it on WiiWare. If it ever came to the Wii U eShop, I'd hope there would be an upgrade option available, similar to paying $1 and $1.50 for NES/SNES games.
Maybe this will bring me back to the game, although after I finished it, not sure I'd go back. Still probably with Shovel Knight and World of Goo stands as the best indie game ever IMO. So much fun I had with this on WiiWare and with the Classic Controller.
Impressive! Nintendo did not release a Skyward Sword update to prevent the intricate conditional game data corruption, but Vblank Entertainment, a small developer team, is able to update its game!
@manu0 @Shotgunryugan "Couple of days or weeks ago they actually updated the System Transfer thing"
So that is probably why I had two different Wii System Transfer programs in the Wii mode on my Wii U! I went to the Shop Channel to download the transfer tool to finally transfer data/licences from my Wii to my Wii U, but already had a transfer tool, ending up with two slightly different ones.
@BornInNorway81 What exactly are you talking about? They did release an update for Skyward Sword awhile back, not sure if what you are referring to is a new thing or not(Haven't played SS since the month it was released).
@manu0 Oh they did? I don't even use that thing since I don't own a Wii U
Still got to beat the 3DS version
You have to rebuy it on PS3/Vita to get the DX version!
Thanks VBlank! I'll update my copy of RCR on WiiWare soon.
@manu0 Really? What did they do to update/change it?
@ZBomber Dunno, probably just some minor bug fixes.
I thought Nintendo closed down all servers for the Wii...
@WinterWarm thats Nintendo WiFi connection and it was GameSpy who shut down there servers.
Why not just bring it over to Wii U?
Thank you based vBlank.
Now the completion counter might finally say 100%
@Kenology I second that!
Considering how poorly this game sold on Wiiware, this guy sure is dedicated.
Thanks vBlank! Looking forward to update it Highly recommended game.
Though this version sounds excellent I am just waiting for a Wii U version! I would snap that up in an instant!
I must say that is quite generous from them, especially seeing as almost no-one downloaded it!
I hope this provides more sales. Bri sure could use the extra 20k.
I loved the game the first time on WiiWare, and now (in a few days), I'll download the new version and play it again. An awesome experience I was proud to play on the Wii and beat.
I wonder if he's doing this because he managed to cross the sales threshold. I will download this update, but I am concerned it may take away Rom City Rampage.
This is awesome... Aside from one or two straggling VC titles, Retro City Ramage was officially the last WiiWare game I picked up, and the first downloaded (not transferred) to my shiny new Wii-U. Will be getting the update fr sure!!!
Koo koo , they should make wiiware games portable to the wii u like the other vc games specially with these new folders available. I dont see why not unless its a control issue or something ?
@unrandomsam it actually says above only missing HD filters and zooming.
Woohoo!
@Gameday Just use the System Transfer Tool or download it straight to your Wii U from the Wii Shop Channel in Wii Mode.
Really hoping RCR DX will make an appearance in the actual Wii U eShop some day in the future. Will rebuy it immediately when that day comes.
This is some awesome dedication from the dev Brian Provinciano.
I had no idea this was possible... Mind you I guess gradius rebirth did it...
Ah ah, I see that NES Game Genie graffiti in that screenshot.
@BulbasaurusRex Ooo so you can download it from the wii u eshop ? or do you have to do the file transfer from the wii itself ? I did that before when i first got it the wii u, had an error and lost all my data and save files.. I had like 30 or so vc/wiiware games i was pissed and to lose my monster hunter tri and goldeneye stats...
What a QUALITY developer! I got this game on WiiWare just to support this developer and he is still supporting us! A+++
@Gameday Sorry to hear that, but yeah you can buy and download anything that's on the Wii Shop Channel directly on your Wii U by going to a special section of the eShop (or something like that; I don't have a Wii U yet). You can then also update the VC games that have also been released on Wii U with the extra features (restore points, gamepad play, etc.) by paying a dollar or so per game.
WHATTT??? GREEEEEEAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTT
The DX upgrade isn't up...
It was up for me.
@nightmaremoon Oh, interesting, okay thanks.
