Re: Balloon Fight On Wii U Reportedly Running At 50Hz in Europe

brooks83

@SCAR

PAL TVs are perfectly capable of running 60Hz these days, so there's no reason Europe can't enjoy 60Hz games like the rest of the world. All they would have to do is give them an option to play the game at 60Hz, or just give them the NA version.

It is possible that when the actual VC launches in the Spring that the games will be in their intended 60Hz, so I will hold off judgment until then.

@Captain_Balko

I would call their opinion more educated in the sense that they likely have a journalism degree and know how to write a review better than I do, but at the end of the day the score they give it is still just their opinion. I respect their opinion, but I don't think disagreeing with it makes you ignorant. Disagreeing with an opinion about a game isn't the same as going up to a mathematician and telling them the Pythagorean Theorem is a lie. I've been playing games and reading about games for 20+ years, odds are I know just as much about video games as a professional reviewer does. Maybe I should have went for a journalism degree instead of accounting, lol. And as far as launches go, the Wii U and Wii's were decent, but they don't hold a candle to SNES or Gamecube's

@Captain_Balko
"The staff of Nintendo Power were professional writers who had opinions that I'm sure are above you and I."

You seem like a smart enough person, surely you don't buy that? Because someone works at Nintendo Power their opinion is somehow more valid than yours or mine? Regardless, how many Wii U launch games have a Metacritic score of 95? I'll give you a hint: Zero.

What are your other "facts" that show that the Wii U launch is better? That Wii Sports had less content than Nintendoland? That doesn't mean anything, and certainly more content does not make a game better than another. Millions of people wanted a Wii just for Wii Sports, can't say the same thing for Nintendoland. And that Wii Sports didn't come in a proper case? Most people could care less about that. It certainly does not have anything to do with the Wii U launch being better. And yeah, the ports of Batman and other games may have more content, but the framerate issues make the games worse than the cheaper PS3 and 360 versions.

Basically, my point is that you have not shown a single "fact" proving the Wii U launch is better. It is all opinion.

Nintendo really needs to hype the Wii U up. Tease some games. Release a few screenshots here and there. Give us a hint at what they are coming up with and what to expect in the future. Give people a reason to invest $350 in their product. There is no excitement or interest in the Wii U outside of the Nintendo faithful. Nintendo's handling of their brand new system is just baffling.

Re: Nintendo Announces 890,000 Wii U Sales in U.S. Launch

@billychaos - I read all these comments and have not found anything that would lead me to believe Nintendo is "despised". Myself, I am a big Nintendo fan and have been underwhelmed with the Wii U thus far. I just don't think it's worth the price point it's at right now, and I have been dissapointed in Nintendo's handling of the system. This doesn't mean I "despise" Nintendo or won't eventually buy a Wii U. I'm just calling Nintendo out on their mistakes. Call it tough love.

As for how well the Wii U is doing. 468k in the US in December is simply ok. Not great. The system launched and it was around Christmas, so it could have been much better. They will have a hard time making their goal of 5 million worldwide at this rate. I also read that Bloomberg article. The Wii U is at $300 million in sales while the Wii was at $270 at this point in it's life. That sounds ok, but does that number factor in inflation? And, considering Wii U's were seen on shelves everywhere, that $300 million should have been much higher. The Wii was sold out everywhere for months. And, sales does not mean profits. How profitable is the Wii U so far? We don't know yet.

I sound like a broken record here, but had they just ANNOUNCED what they were gonna do with the VC (I don't mean say it's coming, I mean tell us if we have to re-buy our games again for Gamepad use, etc.) I would have bought one at launch. They also should just TEASE some games they are working on. This silent treatment does nothing to build excitement for their new console. I think Nintendo has lost their mind.

Re: Picked Up A Pre-Owned Wii U Console? You Could Have Access To Free Downloads

brooks83

Yeah, I am extremely careful with my consoles. I used to be so extreme I would wash my hands before handling a disc or controller, but these days I'm not that bad lol. The only Nintendo console I've had break down on me was the original NES, and it could be easily fixed by replacing the pin connector. I bought a top loading NES instead though and haven't had any problems with that model.

So for those of us who take care of our stuff, this probably won't be a big issue. The reason I think Nintendo should implement an account system is because it is an industry standard now and it only furthers the idea that Nintendo is behind the times. It also is a make or break issue for a lot of potential customers. If anything, most would see it as a negative rather than a positive feature.

Re: GameStop Sales of Wii U Are Reportedly "Slightly Disappointing"

brooks83

@Slapshot - I agree with almost everything you said, the only difference is I absolutely love the Wii and it is probably one of my all-time favorite consoles. That makes my dissapointment with the Wii U all the more frustrating. I've been looking high and low for any reason to want to buy this console, but I can't find any. This system just does not appeal to me at all, add that to the fact that every store I go to has tons in stock makes me think that Nintendo is gonna have a rough first year with this thing.

Re: Picked Up A Pre-Owned Wii U Console? You Could Have Access To Free Downloads

@SCAR392 - No, this is not a more 'dedicated' way of doing things, this is a backwards, archaic system that should not exist in 2013. If you decide to upgrade from a basic to a deluxe model, or your Wii U breaks, or for whatever reason someone gets a new Wii U, sending the console in to Nintendo to transfer your stuff for you (for a fee of course) is really a good thing in your opinion?
If someone gets a new Wii U, for any reason, they should be allowed to login to their account and download the games they already bought. It would not be a hard system to implement. They could make it to where all the purchases are automatically deleted from the original system.
