Re: Nintendo Shares New Image Of Switch 2 Ahead Of The Big Day

bleeflooflah

I think this is VERY strongly hinting at a 3D Mario (which we all kind of assumed was going to be there anyways) which means this is the first time a Mario game has been available at launch since...64? Could be some strong foreshadowing of a really revolutionary title. I was always bewildered why Nintendo didn't wait to launch Mario Wonder with the Switch 2 (as it would have been received incredibly well.)

The only good reason NOT to wait to launch Mario Wonder with Switch 2 would be if they had an amazing 3D title ready.

Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate The Nintendo Direct For March 2025?

bleeflooflah

this is a situation where timing is so important. This would have gone down way better 3-4 weeks ago. Now, a week before the big Switch 2 drop, this thing hit with a thud. Metroid Prime 4 gameplay and a Rhythm Heaven announcement would have been hype machines a month ago. Now, I can't seem to care.

I have to wonder why I'm not more impressed by Metroid 4. It checks all the boxes but...dude...its been like 6 years. I think I'm over it.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Direct Predictions - What Do You Want To See?

bleeflooflah

I suspect we get an extended look at Prime 4 tomorrow, and then they mention it briefly during the Switch 2 direct to show graphics comparisons/exclusive features.
As for the rest, Yoshi and Wind Waker feel very safe...those would also be some great games to show graphics comparisons on Switch 2, and they could also show up in the highlight reel. Digitial Foundry is going to be busy.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Switch 2 To Launch In June With 3-Phase Software Plan

bleeflooflah

this seems odd. I mean its almost certainly true...Nintendo has a great third party presence now but for 20 years that wasn't the case, and they are never going to trust them like they do their own people. They will want their software to get an early jump. That being said, I have doubts they want to give third parties a chance to "shine" that might be the language they are using for their partners, but they are absolutely never going to plan their releases around third parties. Nintendo picks their dates and then everybody else can fall in line.

Re: Review: 8BitDo Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller - Probably The Best Budget Switch Pad

bleeflooflah

I bought the Lite controller years back and was surprised to find it works incredibly well for Smash. I also bought the previous generation of this new controller and have absolutely loved it. Sounds like I'll be buying three more then. I love the Switch Pro controller (top 3 controllers ever) but bro that $70 asking price is steep when I want 4 of them for multiplayer. I think I'll buy this instead for a fraction of the price.

Re: Rumour: Latest Switch 2 Theory Suggests Release Date Might Be Right Around The Corner

bleeflooflah

Admittedy people are going to throw around a lot of dates, but this theory seems to hold water. The writer makes excellent points, and I've pointed out Microsoft has a suspicious number of games launching in the "Spring" which lines up with a mid May launch. School will just be letting out for most students, which is a great strategic move for word of mouth and kids experiencing FOMO.

Re: Rumour: Bethesda's Elder Scrolls: Oblivion "Remake" Could Be Arriving Soon

bleeflooflah

I'm seeing a lot of Oblivion talk around the internet. Very similar talk with Age of Empire 2 HD coming to "other consoles." I have a strong suspicion Microsoft is holding back official word because they are putting these "partner" games in the Switch 2 showcase. Skyrim was a major selling point when the Switch launched, and was even featured in the debut trailer. I could see an Oblivion remake, with new shadows/lighting/textures, being a technical showcase for Switch 2. And then use Age of Empires 2 (one of the great RTS games of all time) as a demo for the joycon mouse functionality. I could see Microsoft heavily featuring in that April 2nd video.

Re: Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny Remastered Coming To Switch May 2025

bleeflooflah

@anoyonmus absolutely you can. The first had an extremely simple story and came to a pretty complete conclusion. The second one takes place in a different region with completely different characters and makes almost no references to the first. Jump straight into the second one. The original is good, but the second is a far more robust game

Re: Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny Remastered Coming To Switch In 2025

bleeflooflah

@mlt yes, this is considered the peak of the series by many. You can jump right in, the story of the first game is pretty barebones. And the gameplay in 2 is improved so much, I wouldn't want you to risk losing interest because of the first not playing very well. Onimusha 1 was loved in its time because it was a PS2 launch game. But Onimusha 2 just stands on its own. New main character. New land. New plot. The references to the first are quite throw-away.

Re: Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny Remastered Coming To Switch In 2025

bleeflooflah

I could not be more hyped. One is an excellent game (and I like Samonosuke as a main character better) but 2 improves in absolutely every way. Lots of gameplay variety, replayability, improved story, and an even better soundtrack. I replayed 2 MANY times.

and it must be said...that trailer was absolute dog water. No gameplay? REALLY? I mean, I know what it looks like but cmon man.

Re: Feature: 12 Things Switch 2's Mysterious Not-C-Button Might Do, Maybe

bleeflooflah

I really think (based on nothing) that the button will be to quickly swap between games. Something like what Xbox does with Quick Resume, but the Switch 2 will let you quickly jump between 2 games that are stored in its beefy 12gb of RAM.

Another idea I really think has potential is the one about casting to the TV. That tech worked perfectly way back on the Wii U, and Nintendo is likely sitting on some patents related to that, making it hard for competitors to emulate.

Re: Switch 2's Rumoured 'C' Button Isn't Actually A 'C' Button

bleeflooflah

I read a theory that its a "cast" button that wirelessly sends the Switch's display to the dock. I completely believe that theory! The Wii U had that technology and it worked perfectly, and it would really distinguish the Switch 2 as an innovative follow-up to the original.

My second theory is that its a button to hot swap between games. The Switch 2 has been rumored to have 12 GB of RAM. That's way more than the PS4 had, which the Switch 2 is supposedly at graphical parity with. I could see them selling the ability to "switch" between two games at the press of a button.

Re: It Turns Out Pokémon GO Players Have Been Training An AI This Whole Time

bleeflooflah

I'm not even upset about the AI part, what I can't stand is the ethics involved here. There were a LOT of security concerns brought up about Pokemon GO, and people going through the terms of service of the game...I don't remember anything like this being brought up. And there's no way this wasn't the intention from the beginning, otherwise they wouldn't have had any need to collect and store the data.

This is a serious ethical problem by Niantic, Google (already well-known for being a shady company) and Nintendo itself. If Nintendo doesn't come out and respond to this, then it means they were complicit in this deception, and that makes me lose a little bit of faith in them.

I know corporations are going to worship the dollar, but Nintendo has GENERALLY considered ethics in their business practices (they don't heavily engage in gacha, microtransactions, etc.) but this is definitely a breach of ethics and consumer trust...the one comfort I have is that they struck this deal during their darkest days (the Wii U era) but that still isn't an excuse.

Re: Switch Online's Expansion Pack Promises "Excitement" In 2025

bleeflooflah

This is a REALLY interesting development. Based on them doing HD remakes of so many Gamecube games the last few years (TP, TTYD, Pikmin 1/2, WW) I would have assumed they would keep milking the HD remake cow. Unless they want to use a Gamecube emulator for some of their more niche GC titles like Battalion Wars and 1080 Avalanche? not a bad idea. The Gamecube had enough of those for NSO to add several years to their content roadmap.

Re: Sakurai's Penultimate YouTube Video Is All About Iwata

bleeflooflah

its so amazing how much the folks at Nintendo CLEARLY admired their CEO. He has been passed now for almost 9 years, and his colleagues still talk about him. He still gets referenced in video games too, and people like Sakurai, one of the all-time great game designers, speaks about him with fondness and admiration. THATS the kind of impact you want to leave on the world.

You can tell they were close friends. Sakurai looks sad the entire time he's speaking. It almost looks like there are tears in his eyes at some points

Re: Rumour: Supposed 'Switch 2' Design Photos And Specs Surface Online

bleeflooflah

I am absolutely convinced of these leaks. It looks like the "additional button" on the shoulder is just an enlarged release for the joy-con to detach. It is strangely huge though. Maybe after some consumer testing they realized the button to release the original joy-con was too small for most consumers (I remember my first time detaching it was really tricky, I actually struggled with it quite a bit...and I'm a nerd).

This feels safe for Nintendo, but that's absolutely what they need to do. The era of hardware gimicks is over, and they need to just deliver some high quality traditional hardware/software.

The ONLY thing I'm confused about is the additional USB-C on top. What on earth could that be used for? Connecting to another Switch for high -bandwidth local multiplayer? Game sharing to a friend that doesn't have a copy of the game for a quick multiplayer session? Having an additional port is a strange extra cost...especially when the dock will likely have some too.

Re: Two New Mario Kart 8: Deluxe Switch Bundles Announced (North America)

bleeflooflah

@dkxcalibur actually I disagree. I was looking at getting a switch for my kids this year (and of course Switch 2 later) and I was hoping a bundle would come out to sweeten the deal. I already have MK8 physically but I'll keep the digital code for my main Switch. So even longtime Switch owners might pick this up as a backup. the 12 month membership is only $20 but that's still extra value

Re: Surprise! Shovel Knight's Original Adventure Is Getting The Deluxe Treatment

bleeflooflah

@Alex79uk I think hardcore fans will double dip. The new cheats seem interesting and being able to play the campaign with a host of characters will add a nice remix to the campaign. Looks like there are a lot of options to tweak the game to being easier for younger or inexperienced players. Taking a cue from Celeste, perhaps. Speaking personally, I'm intrigued at the offering.

In the presentation they did mention that this was a way of "preserving" the game. That seemed like an odd statement to me. It's available on every major digital platform, and they've done physical releases as well.
