@Satans_Therapist Yeah the Pro Controller d-pad is horrendous. It looks like it should be great but it is way, way, way to easy to either hit or miss a diagonal when you don't need it. Fighting game inputs are tough, but accidentally hard-dropping in Tetris 99 is easy. I actually have an easier time in the latter with the left freakin' Joy Con's directional buttons.

@Scollurio I love how you wax poetic over how a particular course in a phony racing sim that'll never match how it works IRL must have an analog accelerator but the entire notion that I might not want one of my 6-button fighting game inputs to be in the left shoulder as opposed to the right is alien.

@Scollurio Six button fighters on traditional controllers map HP and HK to R1 and R2. There is nothing worse than an analog button for a binary action.

Even something like Halo played Boxer-style makes use of all the shoulders, and they feel way better for me when every action is on a non-analog button.

Racing games that put accelerators on shoulders get mapped to the face buttons with the swiftness.

@Spider-Kev The whole reason they're considered bad in the first place is because they're in places they don't belong to pad things out.

When a game is designed around them, they're just as good as any other game mechanic.

@SirLink Interesting. I could see that because apparently the Switch needs the battery to power up even when docked, which seems like an odd limitation should something happen to said battery. Not unlike the controller having some one-off tech just to wake a Switch 1...

@Jalex_64 Pretty sure you can only pair a Pro Controller to one console at a time, so this bit of Nintendo Defense Force propaganda falls flat.

I managed to pre-order both a Switch 2 MKW bundle AND a Pro Controller 2, but couldn't get the powered grip nor the extra dock. Will have to snag those later.

@SirLink I am 100% certain the old controllers have the capability to wake a Switch 2 but that Nintendo won't allow it.

Hoping the new Pro Controller has a better d-pad.

I am 100% certain Sakurai has access to a dev unit and that he entered the lottery purely for a personal Switch 2.

I've yet to play Odyssey and I don't care to. Most Mario games are overrated (fight me). I DID enjoy Wonder an awful lot though; another one like THAT would rule.

Depends on the game.

This means nothing. If they aren't hall effect sticks, or aren't designed with the gear system used by the N64 controller, they're at greater risk of developing drift.

(The N64 controller blows, but the mechanism under the hood of the stick is actually great, even if the all-plastic design leads to wobbliness over time.)

It's not quote 1:1 but there are similarities.

XB360 had such goodwill behind it, had so many great titles, introduced XBLA to the world that Sony knew it had to copy, et al... and then they pissed it all away in a few weeks with the stupid Xbone.

Nintendo isn't quite doing that here but I do understand why people are upset. Price increases in 2025 from companies that can absolutely still make record profits without said increases is frustrating.

Also rear buttons are amazing and everyone complaining about them is crazy.

No word on if it's hall effect sticks or not, nor if the d-pad is improved over the garbage d-pads on the Switch 1 Pro Controllers.

I hope you can just plug in or pair a real mouse for compatible games.

That sucks, but since hall effect uses magnets it's possible that it impeded it. No word if the Pro Controller 2 uses hall effect sticks; I hope so.
