I have grievances with the system, but the launch itself seemed smooth. I got the system for the games, though, so it's not like I have a choice if I want to play Bananza or Prime 4.
@Suketoudara Killer Instinct did waaaaaaaaaaay better away from Nintendo. But in general, yeah, it's hard not to hate that this is all in MS's portfolio.
@Yalloo "I'm glad I'm playing with Nintendo instead of the mean dumb greedy bullies at MS" is what you said, so I assumed you meant to imply they weren't as bad.
And of course nobody should be supporting MS layoffs. It's disgusting. On that we agree.
@Yalloo Nintendo is evil and greedy as well, and many, many examples can be found. Just because Microsoft is evil and greedy doesn't mean other game publishers are saints.
And no, you cannot impact any of this by playing or not playing only certain publishers' games. Even if so, they all collude and use each others' works. Smash Brothers was likely developed on Microsoft Windows machines and features characters owned by and licensed from Microsoft; two examples of many.
@Aurumonado Of course once we start looking at other factors beyond employee retention, like their efforts to combat game preservation, their litigious nature, their recent patent trolling, their charging a price for a pack-in game that is just an ad for their own hardware, etc., Nintendo doesn't look all that good either.
There are no "outliers" when it comes to massive, multinational organizations. The lot of them are aberrations, parasites who ensure that money forever trickles up.
Yes, the company in question is Microsoft right now. But it's important to shut down this nonsense that there are "good" corporations in 2025.
None yet. Mario Kart World is underwhelming. We will see what DK Bananza and Metroid Prime 4 have to offer though. I'm cautiously optimistic about both.
If either Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii or Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 make it onto the Switch 2 and play well, the system will have GOTY contenders for sure.
@Mesozoic_Masquerade Patents already benefit big companies like Apple and Samsung, way more than they'd benefit if patents just went the way of the dodo. But patents being abolished does need to be a part of a bigger movement to separate from capitalism and class society, or it will mean little; on that, you have a point.
@MSaturn It's been a godsend for me too, and not one word of it makes it to my final work.
Even in cases where the output IS used, there's still a degree of creativity that needs to transform it from slop to something real, like the entries in Runway's AI video competition.
Rather than deifying a 4+ hour video about how "AI is theft" that gets almost everything wrong, watch a rebuttal that is less than half the time, gets almost everything right, and is actually entertaining: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XegV-KnmxqU
I work a job that AI was "supposed to replace" but all AI has been is an incredible tool.
I've also talked to artists who love AI for conceptualizing, for smoothing out brainstorming, and in one case, for helping them learn how to draw.
Bad actors will abuse AI the way they abuse everything. Bad actors are also the ones trying to stuff AI back in Pandora's box, because it gives power to the masses that was exclusively the domain of the rich and influential in the past.
@Mgalens That's right. I like the idea better because then:
a) It isn't just the person in 1st who gets messed up, and if they haven't made other mistakes they should maintain their lead since the people behind them also got wrecked; and
2) It actually helps the launcher of the blue shell.
I'm enjoying it way more than the regular Grand Prix though, mostly because Knockout Tour makes much better use of the big open world than just driving between courses.

Re: Video: How Does Switch 2 Look On A CRT TV? Glorious
Grew up on CRTs during the 80s and 90s.
Everyone loves them. I don't. I loved when hi-def made everything sharp and not blurry.
BUT good for folks who want to use their Switch 2 on older sets.
Re: Switch 2 Dock Supports VRR After All, But It Doesn't Actually Work With Console
lol the Steam Deck is so much better that it even uses the freaking DOCK better.
Oh Nintendo.
Re: Romero Games Hit With Layoffs Following Microsoft Xbox Cuts
@SpontaneousOutburst I've been waiting for Daikatana 2: Wrath of the Planet Eater for a while now.
Re: Romero Games Hit With Layoffs Following Microsoft Xbox Cuts
@Fiergala I'm not left wing.
Saying that with no venom or snark. Just wanted to clarify.

Re: Romero Games Hit With Layoffs Following Microsoft Xbox Cuts
John Romero is one of the greatest level designers of all time. He and his team deserve better than this.

Re: Microsoft Announces Another Wave Of Layoffs, Over 9,000 Jobs Affected
@vio Rare made loads and loads of duds back then too. The Rare collection is filled to burst with them.
MS ruins companies and is running Xbox into the ground to be sure but let's not pretend that everything Rare put out back then was gold.
Re: Microsoft Announces Another Wave Of Layoffs, Over 9,000 Jobs Affected
@Aurumonado They are just as evil as their competition. Thinking otherwise because they aren't engaging in mass layoffs is foolish.
Re: Nintendo's Ability To Ban Switch 2 Consoles Has Landed It In Hot Water
Good. More governments need to push back on this.
Re: Microsoft Announces Second Wave Of Layoffs, Over 9,000 Jobs Affected
@Orwellian87 Microsoft is a Nintendo third-party.
Re: Microsoft Announces Second Wave Of Layoffs, Over 9,000 Jobs Affected
Corporations are not your friend. Not Microsoft, not Sony, not Nintendo, not Sega, not Square-Enix, not any of them. They're money grubbing parasites.
Re: Marvel Rivals Dev NetEase "Already In Contact With Nintendo" About Switch 2
I don't play Rivals but I hope Switch 2 gets it for those folks who do.
Would be nice if Switch 2 could get Tokon, but unfortunately I don't think Sony is going to play ball on that.
Re: 'Full Metal Schoolgirl' Announced For Switch 2, And It Looks Utterly Bonkers

Re: Front Mission 3: Remake Appears To Replace 2D Art Assets With Generative AI
@roboshort What you mean like the stuff they showed on Real Adventures of Johnny Quest and the like? Those were interesting times.
Re: Front Mission 3: Remake Appears To Replace 2D Art Assets With Generative AI
@cvrator It's not. It's corporate greed. AI is the means to the same end as it always is with corporate greed.
Re: Front Mission 3: Remake Appears To Replace 2D Art Assets With Generative AI
This being lazy work doesn't mean AI is the problem. You don't need AI to produce slop.
A lot of people don't want to hear that, but it's a fact.

Re: Chained Echoes 'Ashes Of Elrant' DLC Arrives On Switch In August
This game's combat system is just okay and its story is clearly inspired by Masato Kato. The latter is not a compliment.
I did have my fun with it, but I wish it was so much more than what it is.
Re: Three Nintendo Ray Tracing & Rendering-Related Patents Published In Japan
@1UP-HUSKY Yup. Nintendo as bad as their competitors but noone wants to hear that.
Re: Three Nintendo Ray Tracing & Rendering-Related Patents Published In Japan
One day we will live in a world where patents are a thing of the past. Not today, but someday.
Re: Check Out This Extended New Systems Trailer For Everybody's Golf Hotshots
AI fearmongering is silly; AI is a tool. I'll still be getting the game.
Re: Level-5 CEO Sees AI As 'Tool For Communication And Efficiency Improvement'
@sethfranum Pfft they wish.
Re: Dbrand Admits Its Joy-Con Detachment Response Was "Spectacularly Terrible"
@HammerKirby Me neither. Doesn't change that it IS an issue for a LOT of other people.
Re: Level-5 CEO Sees AI As 'Tool For Communication And Efficiency Improvement'
AI is awesome, but it is not creative. Creativity requires a person.
That's why AI fearmongering is idiotic. It is a tool, as capable of good or evil as any other tool.
Re: Dbrand Admits Its Joy-Con Detachment Response Was "Spectacularly Terrible"
@HammerKirby "we could have fixed joy-con drift in the Switch 2 and the new Pro Controller but lol what if we didn't" Nintendo?
Re: Random: Death Stranding 2 Has Mushroom Kingdom References, Just Like Its Predecessor
My mushroom risotto might have Mario references you guys.
Re: PSA: DBrand's Switch 2 'Killswitch' Dock Adapter's 'Seamless Docking' Apparently Isn't Quite Seamless

Re: Legendary Fighting Dev Is Hosting Its Own 'Direct' Later This Week
I suspect Switch 2 news will be a part of this.
Source: gut feeling.
Re: Sega Knows You Hate Mario Kart's Blue Shells
The blue shell would make much more sense to target EVERYONE ahead of the person firing.
Re: Poll: Have You Won Knockout Tour Online In Mario Kart World Yet?
Not yet.
I'm enjoying it way more than the regular Grand Prix though, mostly because Knockout Tour makes much better use of the big open world than just driving between courses.
Re: Former Nintendo Execs Fear We Might Be Waiting A While For A 3D Mario On Switch 2, Thanks To Donkey Kong
I've yet to play, and still have no desire to play, Mario Odyssey. So I'm fine waiting. Plus Bananza is lookin' tight.
I loved Mario Wonder to death though. THAT I'd love to see a sequel to.
Re: Random: Don't Like Switch 2's Physical Game Cases? Try Some Cool Cassette-Styled Ones Instead
I'm old. I had cassettes. I'd love to see cassette cases make a comeback for Switch games.
Re: PSA: Spigen's Switch 2 Carry Case May Have A Potentially Console-Damaging Defect
Too bad, Spigen usually does good work.
Still waiting on my dbrand Killswitch. Pre-orders are finally going out.

Re: Random: GameStop Tries To Make Light Of Switch 2 Staple Fiasco, But Lands In More Trouble
Won't anyone think of Bloomberg. The humanity.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Hoping To See In The Donkey Kong Bananza Direct?
Reverting the DK design.
Since that won't happen: other playable characters would be cool (not because of the design, but because Diddy and Dixie are cool).
Re: Talking Point: How Are You Finding Mario Kart's Open World?
Half-baked, and nowhere near worth the absurd asking price when purchased individually.
