@Astropez It isn't an insult to the original FF7, which anyone can still enjoy on a variety of platforms devoid of any Remake influence. This myth about how remakes/adaptations/localizations/etc. insult, ruin, or otherwise take away from or degrade the original remains a myth.

Star Fox 64 is a great game and the S2 remake entices me. Ocarina of Time is something that bored me after the first dungeon and a new coat of paint won't change that.

I get why. Though I'm very critical of Nintendo, it's usually their showcases that have the most games showcased that I'm interested in.

This last Direct had pretty much nothing for me, and the other showcases were far more interesting.

But perhaps September's Direct will be more interesting. /shrug

As for this specific situation, Crystal Dynamics' comments are perfectly reasonable and nobody has a good reason to be mad about them.

Here's what REALLY needs to happen for me to care about OoT: FF7 Remake's time ghosts.

I am not joking.

Make the overworld a much more realized version of BotW/TotK (no durability though please, that concept's been played out), keep the dungeons as actual dungeons (and not the Divine Beast formula), and let the plot deviate from the original in wild, crazy ways.

I never cared for the original OoT and, unlike Star Fox, if a remake is just the old version with a new coat of paint I won't care here either. But go crazy on the plot trying to rewrite history and give me a better open world with real dungeons, and I'll lap this up with the swiftness.

Only one of these games is a guaranteed purchase for me, and it's Star Fox. And even then, it's with reservations. A disappointing Direct overall.

China is leaps and bounds ahead of us in many things, AI included. And they have like a tenth of the data centers (around 500 I believe). AND they regularly pass laws to ensure AI doesn't encroach upon the happiness and well-being of ordinary people.

I've felt since late in the Switch 1's life that Nintendo is running out of steam and this has done nothing to change my mind.

Like, the biggest things coming this year are... two N64 remakes, and of the two, only one of them (Star Fox) is a game I liked originally and would play again.

Still wish Nintendo was just a third party dev for PC.

Other than like 2 seconds of Tales of Eternia Remastered (ruined by it apparently being 1P), the surprise of a Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer, and Final Fantasy Resonance, nothing about the Direct was worth watching. It was mostly things I knew about, ports, and for some reason way too much time spent on that nothing-burger motion control sports game.

The limited-time thing deflates the hype considerably.

So far this is the only thing in this Direct worth watching it for and it isn't even all that hype. But maybe these last few minutes of the Direct will redeem it...

EDIT - welp they showed like 2 seconds of Tales of Eternia Remastered, so I guess that's something.

EDIT 2 - other than the surprise of KH4 the rest was lame.

That's based on nothing. 2D games are part of the libraries of Steam, Xbox, and PSN, and plenty have done very well in those ecosystems.

You SHOULD compare it to better games, like MK8 and Sonic Racing Crossworlds, and ask why MKW is nowhere near as good.

You actually SHOULDN'T put up with refuse just because it has a Nintendo sticker on it.

@koekiemonster Many video games use telemetry features to report stats to devs. Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, notably, report a TON of things to Nintendo.

Provided it's just game data I don't see anything wrong with the practice; it helps devs patch out issues.

They should have to do the same everywhere, and recall systems without an easy to replace battery.

AI fearmongering so bad you got articles now lambasting the opinions of talented, LEGENDARY game creators just because they praise an AI-created concept.

The full Kill Switch for Switch 2 is something I didn't care for, especially how it interacts with the dock. But the (new, not original) dbrand Joy-Con grips are FANTASTIC and by themselves make the stock Switch 2 way more comfortable to hold. Since I already have them I might consider this... though I've little issue using the detached (and gripped) Joy-Cons on their own.

Wish Breath of Fire was part of the party.

Unfortunate. Dread is a fantastic game, and while the Lords of Shadow games weren't my cup of tea I did like things about them. Mercury Steam deserves better.
