I'm a huge critic of how overpriced and unoptimized most Pokemon games are, yet Champions has been a blast. It's basically my perfect Pokemon game, freemium nonsense notwithstanding (and that's more of a systemic issue anyway).
Played the demo on PC. Thoroughly unimpressed. The visuals are the best part; everything else is sub-par. The game plays like if Shovel Knight ditched all of its impressively thoughtful level and encounter design in favor of looking pretty.
It's more complicated than that I think. English has complexity, just not in the areas some Japanese stories tend to use.
I follow Neil Broadley on X (formerly Twitter); he's a localizer for Square who works on mainly the SaGa series, and has a close working relationship with Kawazu (the SaGa series head honcho). Neil posts about various localization stories and challenges often, and is a fascinating read.
Just be aware that anti-localizers who think everything has to be 1:1 with mountains of footnotes who hate every other localization approach like to bleat in Neil's responses, though thankfully they're the minority.
I ain't no corpo cheerleader but SAG-AFTRA is scummy.
People who don't understand the first thing about why capitalism is bad will cling to the flawed logic that all unions are good simply because they're unions.
No shade thrown at Ben Diskin either. He has to look out for himself.
Though honestly after getting away with charging money for Swtich 2 Welcome Tour, a game that should've been free, and also cheaping out on the Switch 2's screen and not-hall-effect analog sticks, I really shouldn't be surprised.
"We want more of your money than we already have, and we hope to convince more of our audience that Nintendo truly cares about its fans, so when people rightfully point out that we're just as bad as our competitors, our unpaid zealots will defend us."
These limited-time events are absolutely unnecessary for a single player game. Terrible FOMO practice you normally see in MMOs (and it sucks there too). Bananza is a great game but this practice is a mark against.
@Wexter Their government made their bed, yes, but I don't ascribe their sins to their people. As for RAM just sitting in a warehouse, yeah, I'm not surprised.
@Wexter I'm lucky that when I built my latest PC a couple years back I opted to slap 64 GB of RAM in it. At the time I thought it was overkill. Now I'm glad I did it.
@NPC411 I do play mine and enjoy it, but that I have housemates who also play it justifies the cost. For me alone I wouldn't have bothered, or at least it would've been a harder sell.
If Nintendo really tries to raise prices, whatever the excuse, that's an aggressively evil move.
@Mommar It takes way more effort to admit you're wrong than it does to just cry "bot" at someone. But I guess some just prefer the path of least resistance. /shrug
Here's something you can latch onto the "bot" strawman with: Chinese RAM is what is going to drive our RAM prices down, and it'll be better quality than what you can get outside of it. In fact some people are already saving money buying RAM directly from China even with high shipping costs.
@neogyo Problem isn't AI, the problem is class society and the drive for profit over helping people. In China, AI is broadly popular because it's used to aid people and develop infrastructure. Here, it's used as a money printing scheme. The tech itself is not the problem.

Re: We're Sure Nintendo Will Have No Issues At All With This New PC Creature Battler
IP law is garbage and nobody should be defending it.
That out of the way:
I want Pokemon Champions on Steam.

It can improve further still though.
Re: Talking Point: What Would You Want From A New Star Fox Game?
The ability to play as Falco in the 1P campaign.
That's it.

Quick everyone, rally to the defense of IP law. Hurry now!
Re: Unsurprisingly, The Mario Galaxy Movie Is Already 2026's Biggest Box Office Hit
It was fun, but like the first it's still inferior to the Sonic movies.
Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Pokémon Champions
I like it but it needs more polish and some single player for-funsie content like Stadium/Coliseum had.

I am prepared.
Re: Feature: Where The Heck Do You Start If You've Never Played Resident Evil?
Just start with 9. If you like it, explore other games. If you don't, don't. No need to overthink it.
Re: "New Players Won't Feel Alone" - Square Enix Partners With Google For AI-Powered Dragon Quest Companion
Quick everyone, let's overreact to and fearmonger over this. Hurry now!
Re: Europe Might Be Forcing Nintendo To Revise The Switch 2
Good.
Companies that make batteries difficult to replace ought to be heavily penalized and forced to recall their products, at their own expense.
Re: Random: A Classic Super Mario Cartoon Is Heading To MeTV Toons In The US
I still unironically love the Super Show.
All the posthumous hate it and the Zelda cartoon get is dumb.

This is a very good game and a huge surprise. Been playing on Steam.

Re: Talking Point: Are You Tired Of The Talking Flower Yet?
@DiggleDog Agreed. We need buff flower, cowboy flower, and pirate flower.
Re: Talking Point: Are You Tired Of The Talking Flower Yet?
I like the talking flower, and that its existence bothers people who think waaaaaaaay too highly of themselves is a bonus.
Re: New Survival Game 'Pickmon' Is Just Asking To Be Sued Into Oblivion
Not interested in the game, but I hope it succeeds as another blow against the aberration that is IP law.
Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite 3DS Model?
New 3DS XL. Good 3D. Great otherwise. Still have mine. Need to test its battery before selling it. Lots of good memories.

Absolutely not.

I think you know full well.

Disgusting.
Remember: Nintendo is as evil as Sony and Microsoft. There's this myth that they're "less evil" and that they truly care about you. They do not.
