Re: Talking Point: Six Months Since Launch, How Would You Rate Switch 2?

axelhander

4/10.

For the price point, it should've had: a proper glass screen and not this wafer-thin glass with a scratch-prone plastic layer; handheld ergonomics at least a quarter as good as the Steam Deck's; games that aren't as egregiously expensive as they are.

I don't regret the purchase, but I still wish Nintendo was a third party dev, so I could've enjoyed games like Bananza and Metroid Prime 4 on my PC.

Re: Sega Will "Carefully Assess Appropriate Use Cases" When It Comes To "Leveraging AI"

axelhander

AI is "theft" the same way any inspiration, brainstorming, and iteration is "theft." As in, it ain't theft.

AI is not the problem; the problem is the inherent contradiction of capitalism (socialized labor, privatized profits, workers unable to buy back their own labor).

In a world that's moved past class society, with a centrally planned economy by/for the people where profit isn't king, automation (AI included) would be embraced. We only fear automation because the world isn't there yet.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

axelhander

A lot of people here are acting like the open world segments being a bad idea is a foregone conclusion based on subjective reviews, without having played the game themselves.

Yes, I too think a shoehorned-in open world is bad. See PSO2: New Genesis for THAT lesson. But get your hands on Prime 4 before dismissing its implementation of it.

@Pat_trick "Metroid is about isolation. Except for Fusion, Prime 3, Other M, and parts of Dread, all of which ruin any weight my silly retort could've had."

Maybe don't flaunt having all this Metroid knowledge if you, like, don't.

Re: 50 Best Super Nintendo (SNES) Games Of All Time

axelhander

@Aki77 Good for you. I also like Super Mario World. It's fun... in small doses. It's also filled with a lot of same-y, dull levels (once you've seen one cave level/fortress/whatever, you've seen them all). Yoshi's Island is a far more interesting evolution of the Mario formula, and the DKC games are far more exciting with more varied locales. The latter also applies to Kirby Super Star, which also gives us something 2D Mario games wouldn't have for a very long time: simultaneous co-op.

Re: 50 Best Super Nintendo (SNES) Games Of All Time

axelhander

Super Mario World is a blast, and a small miracle given its rushed development cycle... but it is the most overrated Mario game in existence. Yoshi's Island is better, DKC2 is WAY better, most of the SNES library's hits are better. We really don't need to keep glazing SMW.

Re: The Game Awards Nominees Announced, Donkey Kong Bananza Up For GOTY

axelhander

People saying Western bias but I'm curious what they felt SHOULD'VE been there.

I definitely think Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, Sonic Racing Crossworlds, and Ninja Gaiden 4 probably deserved some accolades, but what else? EDIT - Whoops, I guess the last two DID get noms, my bad.

lol @ people saying Mario Kart World deserved a soundtrack nom. Come now.

Re: Nintendo's Pokémon Catching-Related Patent Has Been Rejected In Japan

axelhander

@UpsideDownRowlet Plagiarism is pretend, and if those designs are "plagiarism" then 2D platformers are also "plagiarizing" Mario. It's just more nonsense in defense of IP law.

If it's found out that there's original Nintendo code in Palworld, then there's an argument to make. And even then, it isn't as if Nintendo hasn't done that themselves.
