Re: Talking Point: Video Game Music Is More Popular Than Ever, So Why Is Nintendo So Behind?

alexybubble

@Magician Not always. Remember, Zelda CDI managed to exist. I almost feel like that's where all of Nintendo's hyper-protectiveness comes from, they're afraid that something like that is going to happen again, and permanently ruin the franchise that its associated with (which, to be fair, isn't an entirely unfounded fear. Look at what Other M did to Metroid, and what Star Fox Zero did to Star Fox.). Honestly, knowing how legendarily petty Nintendo can be, I wouldn't be all that surprised if a lot of this came from, on one of the few times that Nintendo's executives did use the internet, they happened to stumble on some random Morshu meme that scared them, since it shows the internet not only not ignoring one of their worst failures, but glorifying it, and the last thing that Nintendo would want would be for those games to be acknowledged.

Re: The Official Pokémon Diamond & Pearl Sound Library Will Be Shut Down Next Week

alexybubble

@somebread Honestly, the takedown doesn't even really matter that much. People are still going to be able to find the music if they just want to listen to it, and since the Pokemon Company isn't going to be able to tell where you got the music from, the music is permanently going to fall under the rules of guidelines for anything related to that. It only really makes things slightly less convenient, which, while it is annoying, doesn't take away from the net positive that this created.

Re: Sonic Origins' Story Mode Snubs Tails & Knuckles

alexybubble

Oh, Sonic Origins, you. It'd be really nice if there was any piece of news for this game that didn't come with 5 extra caviats. I still can't help but think that there's a LOT more to this game than meets the eye, especially since we have no real clue about what's actually included in the museum mode. I just don't think that Sega would make something as underwhelming as what we're seeing, given their track record of consistently making some of the best collections in the industry. I wouldn't be surprised if all of the missing, typically re-released spin-offs showed up the museum, as well as a few others that haven't been re-released in a while.

Re: It's Official, Wonder Boy Collection Is Out On 3rd June

alexybubble

Ahh, the good version of the collection. Seriously, though, why are we starting to get these weird, butchered digital versions of collections? I didn't like it when they did it with Turrican, and I don't like that they're doing it now. The worst part is, if it wasn't for the weirdness, I'd actually really like these collections! They're some of the best on the market today, actively going out of their way to include more niche, obscure versions of games that wouldn't get re-released otherwise, and yet they pull this. Is this what I'm going to have to deal with to get good collections now? At least we got the SNK Classics collection and the Sega Genesis Classics collection (which had its PC version (which I consider to be the greatest game collection of all time) retroactively butchered by Sonic Origins causing its Sonic games to be delisted. Then again, keys for the full collection could still activate the old games, I'm not sure. Thank god for key resellers though, and at least we still have mods.) while the good times lasted.

Re: Feature: What The Heck Is A 'MetroidBrainia'? Introducing The Newest Genre On The Block

alexybubble

@-wc- To me, there are 3 main rules that make a game a puzzle game:
1: There must be a defined start and end to each puzzle
2: The player has a specific set of actions/tools that they can use to solve the puzzle, and the set can only be changed through player action.
3: All influences on the puzzle are either predetermined, or by the player.
All three of these rules are broken by Tetris and its derivatives. Rule #1 is broken by a game being able to last forever, and rules 2 & 3 are both broken by pieces being determined by RNG.

Re: EA Reportedly Pursuing Sale Or Merger

alexybubble

If Sony had enough money to buy them out, I'd be fine with that. We'd at least probably get a good Simcity game out of it, and it's probably the best chance we'd ever have at getting a third Boom Blox game, since that could work perfectly as a PSVR exclusive. Microsoft could be interesting, I guess, since they'd at least be willing to put their games on other platforms. Anyone other than those two, and I just wouldn't particularly care.

Re: Thunderful Reveals Three More SteamWorld Games Are In Development

alexybubble

That's cool, but where's our enhanced port of Steamworld Tower Defense?

In all honesty, this is actually really cool. Depending on how closely Coffee sticks to the Simcity/Cites: Skylines model, it'll either be something I might get eventually, or something I'll be really excited for. I just want a bit more out of my city builder, and outside of Actraiser, its sequel, and Little King's Story, that's just not really a thing that I've ever seen exist outside of the city builder being relegated to a insignificant side mode, or the game being stuck in free to play/microtransaction hell. So please, Coffee, give me SOMETHING to do outside of just city building, and I'll buy it in a heartbeat. Otherwise, it's something that I'll probably eventually buy, but not anytime soon.

As for the others, while my interest in Strawberry depends on whether its a true puzzle game or an "action puzzle" (my personal term for Tetris, Puyo Puyo, and the like), but Caramel does at least seem like it'll be a lot of fun regardless of what direction it takes.

Re: Feature: Handheld Face-Off - Nintendo Switch OLED Model Vs Steam Deck

alexybubble

God, I want a Deck. As someone who's been deep in the emulation scene for a few years now, and has always preferred handheld gaming, the convenience of being able to play just about any game at any time I want (minus only the big PS5 exclusives and whatever random games that go unemulated out of pure obscurity) just seems magical to me.

Re: Round Up: Everything Announced In Nintendo's May 2022 Indie World Showcase

alexybubble

I'm pretty happy with this one. I've been wanting to play both Omori and OneShot for a while now, so it's really nice to see that the former finally has a release date, and that the latter is coming over. Honestly, those two were pretty much the only indies left that I care about that hadn't come over yet, so I'm not really sure what else could have made this much better, unless they somehow managed to get mainline Touhou on the Switch.

Re: Rumour: Switch Online Leak Reveals Unreleased NES Titles, Here's A Look

alexybubble

@Zach I remember hearing that the Tetris Company just dislikes Tetris Attack using the Tetris name, since it isn't a Tetris game (that being the reason why Nintendo had to re-release Panel de Pon for western NSO instead of Tetris Attack). They've never had a problem with re-releases of old Tetris games that do follow the Tetris formula, though.

Re: Poll: Are You Finding Sonic Origins' Various Editions And DLC Packs Confusing?

alexybubble

I just want to ask why they made the chart. If they hadn't made the chart, people probably wouldn't be anywhere near as angry, since it's really just 2 dlc packs and a pre-order bonus. But, no, this is Sonic, so they had to screw it up, because Sega just doesn't know how to do Sonic. Honestly, I just hope that this can compare to the old Mega Collection in the end.

Re: Memory Pak: My First Killing Game - 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors

alexybubble

@SoIDecidedTo @JasmineDragon Without going into spoilers, there's some fan service that people take issue with (the particular characters that they take issue with were both heavily abused as children. One of the two doesn't generally have nearly as bad of reactions to them as the other, but there are still some people who take issue with that one.) Also, there's a character who deals with gender issues in one of the games, and a lot of people don't like how they were handled.

Heavy spoiler warning from here on out.

DR1:
In Danganronpa 1, a lot of people have some issues with how a particular character is handled. The game, up to the point of them being murdered and beyond is referred to as a girl, and is treated as such. While trying to find the culprit of their murder, the game reveals that they were actually a boy the entire time (by having one of the female characters feel down the character's corpse, with the reveal coming when the feel the genitals). This is accompanied by some big reactions from most of the cast, and an intimidate switch to using male pronouns to refer to that character for the rest of the game. The game does state that the pronoun switch was what they would have wanted, though.

DR2:
Danganronpa 2 doesn't have any scenes that people treat with the same contempt as that scene, but this is where some of the fan service issues start cropping up. One of the two aforementioned characters (the better of the two) gets put into several highly compromising positions. There's also two scenes in a later chapter that imply that (after the character has pretty much completely gone insane) she sexually assulted the protagonist. These scenes are completely disregarded by the game after that case is over.

Misc:
Danganronpa 0, 3, V3, and Summer Camp don't really have much of note in terms of these kinds of scenes. Yes, Danganronpa 3 and Danganronpa V3 are two completely different things. 3 finishes the story of the games before, and V3 is a reboot of sorts. I just thought I should mention that while I was bringing these ones up, since it can be confusing.

Ultra Despair Girls:
Then we have Ultra Despair Girls, where the worst of the scenes lies. Do note that the only time that the cannon expects you to played through UDG is for one episode in DR3 (Summer Camp also expects you to have played through UDG, but that isn't cannon), so you can safely skip this one if you feel uncomfortable.

One of the villains of UDG was a child actor. She, alongside her mother, were both put into prostitution by her father. This permanently screwed her up. During one the chapters, she kidnaps one of the main protagonists, and you have to play through a minigame where you have to stop what I can only describe as tentacle rape. After this minigame, the other main protagonist comes to save the first, and fights the villain, shredding most of her clothes in the process. That would already be bad enough, but the villain here is about 12 years old during the game. From what I've heard, people seem to be lukewarm to positive on the rest of her appearances in the game, but that's still a thing you'll have to deal with if you want to play this one.

Re: Bandai Namco Appears To Be Working On A "Remaster/Remake Of A 3D Action" Nintendo Game

alexybubble

Zelda seems quite plausible here. I know that we've already had the 3DS versions of OOT and MM, but it's not entirely unlike Nintendo to remake the same game multiple times, especially when it's that big of a game. Plus, it would give them the opportunity to fix people's problems with Majora's Mask 3D. As for the details in the listings, given the fact that OOT was a very early 3DS game, there's a good chance that Nintendo might not have ever made the OOT 3D textures in HD/Models at current poly count standards, so if Bamco was working on it, they'd probably have to remake them, hence the mention of remastering 3D backgrounds.

Then there's the real wacky scenarios. People are bring up Star Fox games in here, so I raise something better: F-Zero GX. Knowing Nintendo, I wouldn't be surprised if they had the listing be purposely misleading just to throw people off their plans. The only problem could be that Sega was the original developer, but Sega doesn't seem like it would have any problem with this happening, given their history.

Re: 'Seven Pirates H' Brings, Ahem, "Booby Training" To Switch This May

alexybubble

Honestly, I'm happy that games like this are getting more coverage. I've never understood why sexual content has anywhere near as much of a stigma around it as it does, and I like that that stigma is at least slightly fading. Still don't think that I'm going to buy it, but I'm at least happy that it isn't being met with complete disgust.

Re: SNK Has Released Another Neo Geo Pocket Color Game On Switch eShop

alexybubble

Even if I don't really care about this particular game, it's still really nice to see the NGP library come back. I just hope that these are doing well enough for Bamco to be taking notes, and do something with the Wonderswan. That one has such a weird library, and at least some of it deserves to come back in some form or another.

Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2 Delay Sees Nintendo Shares Slump 6%

alexybubble

@Dezzy70 Honestly, I don't think a new 3D Mario is coming this console generation, if only because that makes too much sense foe Nintendo to do it. Honestly, if we see any mainline Mario this year, I predict it will be a completely new version of Mario 3D All Stars, now with the full remakes/remasters that were originally leaked. It turns out that Nintendo took down 3D All Stars originally because they thought it would cannibalize the sales of this new version, and they wanted to give it a couple of years afterwards to make sure that people would be willing to buy it a second time. Mario 35 still stays dead, though. This feels just dumb enough to me to be the actual reality, and wouldn't conflict with anything else that's happened so far. Plus, we do still have the Odyssey team DK rumors.

Re: Bandai Namco Is Creating A "Gundam Metaverse"

alexybubble

If this can bring some kind of way to remake/re-release the approximately 10 billion Gundam games that have come out over the years, I'll be happy. Otherwise, meh. It doesn't really sound THAT bad, at least compared to what other companies are doing.

Re: Ori Developer Moon Studios Labelled "Oppressive" Workplace In New Report

alexybubble

It's really hard to go with either side here. On the one hand, I really want for working conditions to improve across the industry (come on people, UNIONIZE ALREADY!!!). On the other, I HATE how the internet goes about doing so. Just because someone's done something bad in the past, doesn't mean that they should still be punished for it today, if they've changed in the meantime. Times can change, and things that were once acceptable can become unacceptable. It feels like a lot of the internet doesn't understand that. It feels like the internet as a whole always judges on modern standards, never thinking to look at the context of the actions committed by the people committing them. Plus, once the internet has deemed you guilty, you can NEVER recover. If the internet says you're a bad guy, people will see you as a bad guy, even if you've become a better person since then. As a person who holds mercy, patience, and the ability to give a second chance in very high regard, that immediate, vitriolic reaction towards anyone who's been said to have done anything wrong hurts me a lot. I just wish people would be willing to see both sides of the story, and would give people the ability to become better after a mistake.

As for this particular indecent, I want to see all sides of the story. If there's real, hard evidence of this occurring, then yeah, consequences are deserved, but these people are most likely to get much worse than they actually deserve, for what most likely amounts to a few unsavory comments. I just wish that there was a different way of solving this other than firing the responsible employees, because I feel like that's too harsh.

Then again, I have no real experience in this particular space, so my words ultimately mean very little.

Re: Crunchyroll Moves All Funimation Content Under One Banner

alexybubble

@Ade117 Dang. That list has a LOT of what I initially subbed to Funimation for. Does Tenchi just include the original series, or does it include the various alternate series as well? I just watched a really good retrospective on Universe, and was thinking of watching it.

@loyalroyal1989 Me too. I had mainly got the sub so that I could watch the classics, though (mainly for DBZ specifically). Still hoping that they'll manage to be able to have existing Funimation memberships transfer over somehow. If they don't, I wouldn't be surprised if there was some kind of lawsuit or another over this.

Re: Square Enix Is Looking Into More HD-2D Remakes Of SNES Classics

alexybubble

@Banjo- I'm pretty sure that they've confirmed that DQ 1 & 2 will be coming at some point. During the original reveal of the DQ3 remake, the guy who they had on to talk about it directly after the reveal was HEAVILY teasing it, to the point where the people running the presentation were almost yelling at him to shut up about it. Afterwords, they confirmed that the first two were getting remade, since people would be disappointed if they weren't, given the aforementioned teasing. At least that's what I remember.

Re: Geoff Keighley Says A Few Other Big Video Game Deals Are In The "Final Stages Of Negotiations"

alexybubble

@Doofenshmirtz Please no. Don't even make me think about that being a possibility. Then again, it doesn't seem that realistic, given that, if talks of a buyout were going on, I doubt that Square Enix would be pushing anything as a Switch exclusive, yet Triangle Strategy and Chocobo GP are still being pushed as such.

Aside from me desperately hoping that none of the Japanese AAAs end up getting bought out, I wonder what unforeseen repercussions it would have. What would happen to Smash, if, god forbid, Capcom or Square Enix did get bought out by Sony? Would Sony be willing to let the game stay up? Would Nintendo have to take Smash off the E-Shop? Would they just push an update to remove whatever content (characters, stages, spirits, etc.) from the company appeared in-game, if you didn't already have them? If they did, would new players be able to buy the removed characters as DLC, or would they be permanently gone from digital copies of the game? So many questions here, that don't really have definitive answers.

Re: Video: Here's A Look At Another Zelda 64 PC Port, And It's "Nearly Fully Playable"

alexybubble

@anoyonmus I think that that's part of it, but there's also a good chance that Nintendo equates mods with piracy, since modding requires either a ROM file (which they universally see as piracy, see Nintendo's hatred of Slippi for Smash Melee) or console hacking, which does have piracy as a big draw (plus, Nintendo's been taking down mods since the Wii days with Project M). I'd honestly say that that's more likely to be the reason, knowing that Nintendo was willing to sabotage the N64 (alongside most of their 3rd party relationships) mainly to prevent piracy.

It could also be that Nintendo just takes them WAY too seriously. Knowing Nintendo, I wouldn't be surprised if they thought that mods and fan games could have the same impact on a franchise as official games do, with one project that fails to deliver being able to sink an entire franchise, causing them to be ridiculously paranoid over everything that comes out around their franchises.

Re: This Unofficial Zelda PC Port Is About '90% Complete', Say Devs

alexybubble

Honestly, the thing I find most interesting here is that future source ports are going to be quicker. Right now, I'm just sitting back, waiting for the PC port and, later on, a Smash 64 decomp. Especially if it works closer to how this decomp works (as compared to SM64) I wouldn't be surprised if a potential SSB64 source port had the entire series stage set within 6 months, and the full SSBU roster within a year. Plus, it wouldn't be surprising to see it also come with some kind of Hyper Street Fighter 2 style game style selector, where you could choose the game feel from any of the games. Plus, even aside from Smash, there are so many other games that could benefit from this. Overall, so excited for the future.

Re: LRG Reveals 'River City Girls Zero' Physical Switch Release, Pre-Orders Begin January 28th

alexybubble

God, the anime segments in that trailer look good. I'm almost tempted to pick up the physical version for the poster alone. The figures just look a bit weird, though. It's mainly that the mouth looks so obviously painted on, but I also wish that they had Kyoko's hair standing up like they have in the animation.

Also, can we please get costumes based on these designs for RCG2? I would love that so much.

Re: The Studio Behind Excite Truck And Excitebots Has Been Acquired By iRacing

alexybubble

And another one's gone. I do respect the lack of buy-outs to a certain extent, but it yet another studio that Nintendo's letting slip through the cracks. Rare, Hudson, AlphaDream, when does it stop? Then again, if Nintendo was to buy anyone, it would probably be either Grezzo or Goodfeel, just to finally truly bring them under the Nintendo umbrella. I would love to see something wackier, though.

Re: Commodore 64 Games Are Being Teased For Nintendo Switch

alexybubble

@HammerGalladeBro I did. I've always been of the opinion that more retro games in general is better. I don't care what platform they're on, or even if they're good, every game has some level of value to it, and should be playable on modern platforms, if it is at all possible for it to be.

Re: Updated Nintendo Policies Push For Increased Transparency And Diversity

alexybubble

@Rin-go I never said that art can't have a message. What I was talking about, with respect to modern hollywood, is that they make the movie for the message, not for any kind of true artistic value. A message can be a great thing, but there needs to be something beyond the message as well. Also, they tend to really shove it in your face at some points, which really doesn't help things. In my mind, the best way to get a message across is to make a piece of art that makes you think about it critically, and that extra step reveals the true message and purpose. It makes it a lot more impactful overall than when it tries to shove it down your throat, and it makes me as a person more likely to appreciate that message, and make myself a better person because of it.
