Re: Best Nintendo Switch Collections And Compilation Games

a_brave_new_geek

With the exception of the below, Switch has pretty much everything I want. Having skimmed the collections in the article, this system is just a TREASURE TROVE for gaming. If the next Nintendo console really is fully backwards compatible and the some of the below games are on it, then I will have less first world problems. They're still problems!

  • Sony exclusive games
  • Elden Ring
  • Starfield
  • Mass Effect Legendary
  • FTL
  • RDR2
  • Cyberpunk 2077
  • Crusader Kings
  • Diablo IV
  • Anno 1800
  • Dead Space Remake

Re: Dead Cells Tops 10 Million Sales As Evil Empire Teases New Games In Two "Really Massive" Franchises

a_brave_new_geek

I took a break from video games between 2008-2017 as I got really into board games. They offered something new.

The first video game I played after that break was The Last of Us Remastered and The Witcher 3. I had no idea about indie video games at this point then I discovered Dead Cells on the PS4 around the end of 2017.

Wow. Blown away. Hooked. What a game. Considered getting a tattoo. Lol.

This game opened up the door to all the other incredible indie games of the type I had no idea existed:

Slay the Spire, Inside, Curse of the Dead Gods, Hades, Hollow Knight, Firewatch, Edith Finch, Florence, Into the Breach.

Now, modern board games and video games take mechanics from each other and it is just fantastic.

Nuclear Blaze is out now too - worth a look by the game's designer.

Re: Poll: Which Nintendo Switch Online Console Do You Play The Most?

a_brave_new_geek

It is great these games still exist and are accessible. It's lovely that people that pleasure from them too. A snapshot in time which people are able to link with their memories.

I tried to get into retro (80s/90s) gaming around 2005 and just thought after about an hour, "What the hell am I doing?". It started to sully my original memories of what those games meant and who I had played them with.

For me, games are just SO MUCH better these days. I have subscribed to NSO really just to have a cloud save.

That being said, one day I may go in search of those old narrative adventures where the technology was really just a vessel for the writing.

Re: Dead Cells' 'Return To Castlevania' DLC Is Apparently 'The Biggest Yet'

a_brave_new_geek

@robr Cheers! I'd take legend if I beat it all!

My mate (who also cannot yet beat the 5BC) and I BOTH found the jump to 2BC to be the greatest difficulty gap. We both spent the most time on 2BC. When you beat 2BC then 3BC and 4BC seem only marginally harder.

Of course, with all the great work on balancing and updates, the 2BC difficulty spike may no longer be the case.

I'm not religious but GOD BLESS the development team of this game!

Re: Dead Cells' Castlevania DLC Looks Like Symphony Of The Night Reincarnated

a_brave_new_geek

Dead Cells is nearly everything I love about modern video games. They released a great game day 1. They being a small team of people.

Then..... THEN.. DLC that added more variety and levels without changing the concept of the day 1 game.

Countless updates, balances, cross overs/collaborations.....

I am so happy to give these guys coin. Keep the DLC coming please, everytime it drops, my mates and I all pick it up again. Such a joy.

It warms my neurons.

And the headless was in Curse of the Dead Gods!

Still cannot PROPERLY beat 5BC though

Stoked!

Re: Review: Lone Ruin - A No-Nonsense, Roguelike Twin-Stick Shooter

a_brave_new_geek

@Sequel Man @, this is it! In a way, I wish I did not go down the digital rabbit hole of eShop and Dekudeals. There(on) sits a whole load of lists, unplayed games and moderate paralysis.

I wish I had just gone all physical and played what I could see.

In a digital firesale, I am the marketing man's dream.

"Honey, the utility company is going to cut off the gas in 24 hours."

Looks up from Steam DB and face goes ashen

Re: Review: Lone Ruin - A No-Nonsense, Roguelike Twin-Stick Shooter

a_brave_new_geek

@Sequel haha!! I think this is why I have decided against getting a steam deck. The choice of games, especially in the roguelixe genre would be paralysing to decide!

At least with Switch, it filters out some of the nonsense.

Switchup gave Lone Ruins one a 90% which is interesting compared to the 7/10 here though each to their own.

Probs there will be a little TLC in the form of DLC for Lone Ruins for this ruined lonely man..... Lol.

Re: Random: Masahiro Sakurai Says He Prefers To Buy Video Games Digitally

a_brave_new_geek

I like both to be honest though I am mostly digital.

My tastes these days are much more skewed towards Indie titles. Some are not available in physical. With some exceptions, I am about a year behind on games.

Any Nintendos (Xeno3 etc) I buy physical as they are very rarely in a firesale. BUT this messes with my minimalism (yeah, whatever mate) so I then sell when completed.

Also, I travel a lot and when I want a day 1 game, it pretty much has to be digital (Hades, Monster Train, Inscryption, Rogue Legacy 2, Cult of the Sheeple, Soup Hero).

BUT...... I do see physical games as a store of economic value, investments and many people will have the SME and time to buy the limited stuff that future generations will crave for. AIM Supply Demand.

Video game interest and the population are only growing so the collector market is a great way to stack chips with those titles that have a relatively smaller print run vs future interest.

Part of me wants to do this too! But, I have picked other things to invest in as I just want to keep this hobby as fun rather than monetising game X and any conflicts that may arise (I cannot unseal and play game X because it's worth Y etc). That's just me.

TLDR - Top Top #43

Staying a little behind in releases, being notified of digital wishlist historical lows using DekuDeals and paying using SwitchUp 10% eshop codes is awesome.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Switch Ports We'd Love To See In 2023

a_brave_new_geek

The second page is a fantastic list! I no longer game on PC nor PS so I have a list on Steam of what I'd love to see on Switch which pretty much matches this article:

Half Life 2
Alt4
Mass Effect Ledge
Chrono Trigger
Noita
Paper Please
Wyldermyth
FTL
Weird West

I just caved and downloaded Vampire Survivors on mobile - what a great game that is. Free too with adverts linked to character revival.
