With the exception of the below, Switch has pretty much everything I want. Having skimmed the collections in the article, this system is just a TREASURE TROVE for gaming. If the next Nintendo console really is fully backwards compatible and the some of the below games are on it, then I will have less first world problems. They're still problems!
I took a break from video games between 2008-2017 as I got really into board games. They offered something new.
The first video game I played after that break was The Last of Us Remastered and The Witcher 3. I had no idea about indie video games at this point then I discovered Dead Cells on the PS4 around the end of 2017.
Wow. Blown away. Hooked. What a game. Considered getting a tattoo. Lol.
This game opened up the door to all the other incredible indie games of the type I had no idea existed:
Slay the Spire, Inside, Curse of the Dead Gods, Hades, Hollow Knight, Firewatch, Edith Finch, Florence, Into the Breach.
Now, modern board games and video games take mechanics from each other and it is just fantastic.
Nuclear Blaze is out now too - worth a look by the game's designer.
I spent hundreds of hours on this game! I am so curious but scared about diving back in. Scared because it is so good. The opportunity cost of friends and hygiene.
It is great these games still exist and are accessible. It's lovely that people that pleasure from them too. A snapshot in time which people are able to link with their memories.
I tried to get into retro (80s/90s) gaming around 2005 and just thought after about an hour, "What the hell am I doing?". It started to sully my original memories of what those games meant and who I had played them with.
For me, games are just SO MUCH better these days. I have subscribed to NSO really just to have a cloud save.
That being said, one day I may go in search of those old narrative adventures where the technology was really just a vessel for the writing.
@mauhlin12 Yes! I did the same. I bought an imported US copy of Street Fighter 2 on SNES for £65.00in 1992. That would be £172 in today's shekels. I do not want to think how much Neo Geo carts would be with the same comparison.
@robr Fair enough. My mate and I have played it in three bursts that were months/years apart. Each of the three sessions was quite different to the other in terms of balance.
My mate (who also cannot yet beat the 5BC) and I BOTH found the jump to 2BC to be the greatest difficulty gap. We both spent the most time on 2BC. When you beat 2BC then 3BC and 4BC seem only marginally harder.
Of course, with all the great work on balancing and updates, the 2BC difficulty spike may no longer be the case.
I'm not religious but GOD BLESS the development team of this game!
General question - what's the deal with Collector's Editions? They seem to be packed with non-perishable plastic goods and cost more. Cash grab or investment or to be cherished by the owner?
@Sequel Man @, this is it! In a way, I wish I did not go down the digital rabbit hole of eShop and Dekudeals. There(on) sits a whole load of lists, unplayed games and moderate paralysis.
I wish I had just gone all physical and played what I could see.
In a digital firesale, I am the marketing man's dream.
"Honey, the utility company is going to cut off the gas in 24 hours."
@Sequel haha!! I think this is why I have decided against getting a steam deck. The choice of games, especially in the roguelixe genre would be paralysing to decide!
At least with Switch, it filters out some of the nonsense.
Switchup gave Lone Ruins one a 90% which is interesting compared to the 7/10 here though each to their own.
Probs there will be a little TLC in the form of DLC for Lone Ruins for this ruined lonely man..... Lol.
I like both to be honest though I am mostly digital.
My tastes these days are much more skewed towards Indie titles. Some are not available in physical. With some exceptions, I am about a year behind on games.
Any Nintendos (Xeno3 etc) I buy physical as they are very rarely in a firesale. BUT this messes with my minimalism (yeah, whatever mate) so I then sell when completed.
Also, I travel a lot and when I want a day 1 game, it pretty much has to be digital (Hades, Monster Train, Inscryption, Rogue Legacy 2, Cult of the Sheeple, Soup Hero).
BUT...... I do see physical games as a store of economic value, investments and many people will have the SME and time to buy the limited stuff that future generations will crave for. AIM Supply Demand.
Video game interest and the population are only growing so the collector market is a great way to stack chips with those titles that have a relatively smaller print run vs future interest.
Part of me wants to do this too! But, I have picked other things to invest in as I just want to keep this hobby as fun rather than monetising game X and any conflicts that may arise (I cannot unseal and play game X because it's worth Y etc). That's just me.
TLDR - Top Top #43
Staying a little behind in releases, being notified of digital wishlist historical lows using DekuDeals and paying using SwitchUp 10% eshop codes is awesome.
The second page is a fantastic list! I no longer game on PC nor PS so I have a list on Steam of what I'd love to see on Switch which pretty much matches this article:
Half Life 2 Alt4 Mass Effect Ledge Chrono Trigger Noita Paper Please Wyldermyth FTL Weird West
I just caved and downloaded Vampire Survivors on mobile - what a great game that is. Free too with adverts linked to character revival.

Re: Review: Vampire Survivors - Kiss Healthy Sleep Goodbye With This Must-Play Roguelike
@CharlieGirl
A knock off! Poundshop Kardashians said Sam Fender.
Gonna bag the Repentance physical from Asia at some point. I bagged the Leviathan edition though I cannot bring myself to open it up. What a loser!
Re: 8BitDo Unveils New "Micro" Switch Controller, Available In Blue & Green
These are cool. I travel around with 2 extra joy cons for 4p gaming and these are much better for that.
Re: Review: Vampire Survivors - Kiss Healthy Sleep Goodbye With This Must-Play Roguelike
This is great! Please do a review of Brotato!
Re: Baldur's Gate 3 Surpasses Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom As 2023's Highest-Rated Game "So Far"
Baldurs Gate 3 likely to be out on the next gen Nintendo console.
Imagine being able to play this game handheld!
Re: Take-Two CEO On Backward Compatibility: "Give Consumers What They Want"
@Lightsiyd Agree with this.
I have generally bought the new-gen consoles on release. I am not sure it makes that much sense anymore - the Switch backlog is huge and quality.
E.g. bought the PS5 at launch, it was not that different to PS4 (except maybe Returnal). Later sold.
Then again, Baldurs Gate 3 has just been released....... Man! Lol.
Re: Best Retro Throwback Nintendo Switch Games - Modern Games With Old-School Style
Horizon Chase Turbo is also inspired by "Chase HQ".
Nerd alert! Sorry.
Re: Anniversary: Dead Cells Is The Gift That Keeps On Giving Five Years On
@Manxman64 I have beaten 5BC but not the "real" 5BC Someday!

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass Wave 5 Arrives Next Week
Do you think they will ever release Mario Kart 8 with all DLC on cartridge?
Re: Review: The Legend Of Heroes: Trails Into Reverie - A Refreshing Entry In The Kiseki Series
@Zeroo Agree! I have added this to a new (retirement) backlog.
Perhaps on the NG Switch Falcom will coalesce all the entries up until Crimson Sin.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 8th)
Minit! Just bagged it in the sale and reminds me of some ZX Spectrum games from YEARS ago. It gives the feel with some cool narration. Recommended!
And on a second play through of Curse of the Dead Gods. The combat and build crafting decisions are really enjoyable.
Re: Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Series Launches On Switch Later This Month
FFVI is one of the greatest games of all time. I had this imported from the US to the UK as a 15yo. Loved it!

@Dom_31 I'm at 5BC too, Still cannot take out the final challenge. Keep on keeping on!
Re: Review: Dead Cells: Return To Castlevania - An Intense, Brilliant Nostalgia Trip To Dracula's Castle
@Waluigi451 Dude! Get in there. There is everything to like. Some of it may seem difficult in the first few hours though it is a very fair game.
Re: Review: The Legend Of Heroes: Trails To Azure - Crossbell's Conclusion Is A Cracking RPG
@Mauzuri
Thanks man! Looking forward to eventually getting to this.
It must be super good if the series is still going and has been across (multi) generation.
Re: Review: Pronty - A Challenging, Aquatic Metroidvania With Beautiful BioShock-Inspired Visuals
I never saw this one coming. The Switch catalogue is an embarrassment of riches these days.
Man, will play this after Ori Will O' and before Sea Rats.
Re: Review: The Legend Of Heroes: Trails To Azure - Crossbell's Conclusion Is A Cracking RPG
@Mauzuri How does it (overall) compare to all the others in your opinion?
Re: Review: The Legend Of Heroes: Trails To Azure - Crossbell's Conclusion Is A Cracking RPG
@iDidSomething This!!
I was thinking of getting a PSP for Trails in the Sky.
Hopefully they will just do a simple port to the Switch of all the missing pieces.

Whichever year Hades came out. That game slaps.
Re: Video: 7 Exciting New Games Coming To Nintendo Switch In March 2023
I used to have a PS4 and a PS5. I just love the game quality and variety on Switch.
I just may be getting Dead Cells DLC....
Have a nice death.

Re: Hands On: Afterimage Is The Most Beautiful-Looking Metroidvania We've Ever Played
Defo bagging this one in its first fire sale.
Probs in about a year.
With about 2-3 exceptions, I am about a year behind the curve with video games.
JOMO - The joy of missing out.
Re: Dead Cells' 'Return To Castlevania' DLC Is Apparently 'The Biggest Yet'
@robr Cheers! I'd take legend if I beat it all!

Re: Nintendo Improves Switch eShop's Search Function With Small QoL Update
What I love about Nintendo is that they don't waste any time or coin on anything that is not a priority. The website is from 2005 and I love it.
Especially the total lack of social media. Refreshing.
Re: Dead Cells' 'Return To Castlevania' DLC Is Apparently 'The Biggest Yet'
Shut up and take my.....
I still cannot properly complete 5BC.
God, I am old.
Re: Celeste Gets Beautiful New Collector's Edition For Fifth Anniversary
@Dragmire Ah ok, I think I will just stick to the digital firesales and the odd Nintend/Atlus game as a physical.
Its best not to awaken that Ogre of Obsession!

Re: Metroidvania 'Curse Of The Sea Rats' Drops Anchor For April Release Date
This looks fun times. An "averagely wealthy person's" Cuphead (with visible damage numbers).
The theme reminds me a little of the 2012 board game "Sewer Pirats" which is super fun.
Re: Into The Breach Will Soon Land New Update, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
This game is great!
Re: Ark: Survival Evolved Has Been Updated Again For Switch
@HeldHero Some games should get rerevieed after significant patches updates though we then get into "living documents" of reviews.
Oh, the old days! When a released game was the final product.
Re: Ark: Survival Evolved Has Been Updated Again For Switch
I love this game, as close to another world that I have seen realised in a game.
Brutal!
Tempted to drop back in though this is a second life, literally.
Re: Cult Of The Lamb Teases New Content, Dungeons, And Secrets In "Major" Free Update
Just after I bagged the game, the developers announced the major update. If they could follow the Dead Cells guys, I'd be stoked.
I am SO keen to play now though think I will wait to start Cult until after the update.....
Rogue Legacy 2 is great in the meantime.
Re: Dead Cells' Castlevania DLC Looks Like Symphony Of The Night Reincarnated
Dead Cells is nearly everything I love about modern video games. They released a great game day 1. They being a small team of people.
Then..... THEN.. DLC that added more variety and levels without changing the concept of the day 1 game.
Countless updates, balances, cross overs/collaborations.....
I am so happy to give these guys coin. Keep the DLC coming please, everytime it drops, my mates and I all pick it up again. Such a joy.
It warms my neurons.
And the headless was in Curse of the Dead Gods!
Still cannot PROPERLY beat 5BC though
Stoked!
Re: Snazzy Pokémon TCG: Scarlet And Violet Elite Trainer Boxes Live For Pre-Order
@acNewUpdates Thank you!
These types of trading card games are super fun. I played a lot of Mage Wars, Summoners Wars, Codex. CCGs are not for my personality type though....
I was 17 when Pokemon was first released so I have zero attachment to it though curious (to play a Switch game at some point). Maybe. Lol.
Re: Snazzy Pokémon TCG: Scarlet And Violet Elite Trainer Boxes Live For Pre-Order
Is this a Nintendo Switch game or a trading card game? Apologies, my knowledge of Pokemon is not great.
Curious to try one of these games at some point,

Junk! Haha, compare this to Ys VIII which was a quality game. But hey, Uno is something.

Good review, thanks.
Lone Ruin looks decent for me. Reminds me a little of an isometric Mana Spark.
Still waiting for Isaac's next digital sale....

Re: Return To Castlevania In The Next Dead Cells DLC, Arriving Q1 2023
Brilliant! Dead Cells is an amazing game. It just keeps on giving. Thanks to the devs for such high end support over the years.
Cannot wait to see the first impressions of Nuclear Blaze.
Still cannot beat 5BC properly..... credit to the devs for such fine balancing (or likely I am just getting old!).
