@Dm9982 Poor fella! That sucks. I would say PS5 and Portal then you have portability options, plug n play and get to bag the Sony exclusives/games that run poorly on switch.
I last had a gaming PC in 2005. I found PC gaming was a bit of chore re: components, drivers, settings etc. "Admin" may have improved and arguably you did get better performance though console gaming i.e. plug n play removes the time eaten into enjoying gaming.
You'll miss some Steam-exclusive indies and Microsoft exclusive games but there is always a trade off.
Physical media has been the preserve of hobbyists for a while now. Movies, music and video games. Time waits for no man.
I think it is only books that continue to outsell their digital equivalents.
I almost went down the rabbit hole of collecting vinyl and special edition physical video games. Thanks god I did not.
It is a shame that the RRP of digital games is not significantly less than their physical equivalent. Market dynamics may mean they'd sell more copies and digital delivery is better for the planet.
But, we MUST build a pyramid of possessions before we leave this place. A rented masonry skip takes care of that when we are gone.
@Dm9982 Mate, I think we are reading from a similar, blurred and mottled hymn sheet.
I have been trying to work out how if the PS Portal is good for travelling... Conclusion: It is and it isn't depending on wifi speed.
It will be great as a home portable.
BUT, if your PC is game ready and if you have not yet bought any PS4 or PS5 games, I would stick to Switch and PC.
BUT, PC components and upgrades are a kind of a perpetual race which I disliked. Plug and Play i.e. consoles removes the additional faff of thinking/configuring and so more time for gaming itself.
If you PC is a generation behind, wait for PS5 Pro! Or, Switch 2 may cover nearly all the bases.
I have a mate that has a PC, Switch, XBox X and PS5 - the paradox of choice swallows him weekly.
I plan to play through this whole series before I am gone.
Each game is 30-60 hours.
I expect each "arc" will be bundled together in the coming years.
I feel that they will release the remainder in English like many of the ports of old JRPGs. Straight ports should be straightforward to complete assuming there are no legal pre-requisites that have to be inked/paid away.
God. I cannot believe I remember the release of the first game that this was based on:
Dungeon Master (1987) Eye of the Beholder (1991) Eye of the Beholder 2: The Legend of Darkmoon (1991) Dungeon Master 2: Legend of Skullkeep (1993) Eye of the Beholder 3: The Assault on Myth Drannor
Legend of Grimrock (2012) Legend of Grimrock 2 (2014)
I think they should. Cutting edge graphics are no longer a priority for most people. The exception here is that some modern games are not being released on the Switch e.g. Baldurs Gate 3 etc.
My switch backlog is large enough and good enough to last another 2 years.
The longer we wait, the better (not just as in faster CPU/GPU) it is likely to be.
If I told younger self, one day you'll be able to play the sixth instalment of Civilisation with all the DLC (inc leader pass) on a handheld, my simple mind would have been blown.
Sometimes indie studios go past their budgeted time period for development and simply need the cash to keep the lights and heating on. Not ideal though it looks in this case, they have fixed the nonsense.
The flip side with "living games" as opposed to the old school offline variety is that they potentially offer an evolving game and more content (often unexpected).
@Tempestryke I agreed that there will be exceptions to physical reference as you reference.
My main point (that the data supports): The majority of media consumed today is digital and that this transition has only increased in the medium term (5-10 years)
Whether you think I have a clue or not or whether you do not wish the data to be true, I am just stating market data.
First, they came for the newspapers and nobody spoke for the newspapers.
Second, they came for the music and nobody spoke for the music.
Then they came for the movies and nobody spoke for the movies.
Finally, they came for the video games and not enough spoke for the video games.
Who, my friend, will speak up for you when nobody is left?
TBF - The market has embraced medium-less media. Online news, spotify, netflix, game pass etc.
From a consumer PoV, the noisy minority are swimming against the tsunami of the participating majority.
Digital games, like music, movies and newspapers are fine. They are better for the planet, available on demand (often on sale), and saves time in logistics/portability etc.
First party games, when they do become fully digital, could be cheaper.
The economic side of a physical collection could be argued though it is just more stuff for your family to put in a skip when you are gone.
I probably have another hours of gaming to outlast my lifetime of time I'd spend gaming.
Most of my games are not chosen for graphics but gameplay.
I had a PS5 though got rid as it was just not necessary for me. I'd seen most of what it offered before and those indies and more innovator titles are mostly on Switch (with a very small number of exceptions.)
Divinity Original Sin 2 - what a game! Nearing the end of Act 1 of 4. This is excellent. By the time I am done, should hopefully be able to play Baldurs Gate 3 on Nintendo's next console.
Without the Fextralife YouTube guides, I'd probably of quit!
@SwitchForce I agree that is useful for learning and everyone gets to decide. That is why I think it is great that the video game exists. To your comment, I did not reference the video game being any "less".
Everyone does have time to sit down and play a board game (and Gloomhaven is playable solo), it is just not a priority.
I have been wanting to start a game of this for a long time. Maybe v1.6 could be the right time. Just bagged an 8bitdo Zero 2 controller which I have found works on the mac too.
This list is great! I love most of these games. Many of them are nearly endlessly re-playable and if there was an apocalypse and all I had were a switch with these games and a solar panel, I'd be fine.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (13th April)
Loving the Switch. This weekend:
Unicorn Overlord
Pentiment
Brotato
Re: Rumour: Switch Successor Might Not Be Launching Until 2025
The greater the delay, the probability of a better specs is increased.
There are too many good games on Switch and not enough time to play them before the next console.
For everything else that is not Starfield and Indiana Jones, get a PS5.
Re: 'Switch 2' Launching This Year With 8-Inch LCD Screen, According To New Analyst Rumour
@Dm9982 I think your internet should be enough if consistently those numbers.
Also, take a look at PSPlay and Third Party backbone style controllers. If your phone has a 1080p screen then you could use that too.
I think I will bag a PS5 Pro and a Google Pixel 6 Pro Next year for these purposes.
Processing 4k like a dream. Hopefully streaming remotely to 1440p @ 120hz.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Want To See Colourful Cartridges Return For 'Switch 2'?
@Crono1973 TBF Crono, that's what I do too with physical games that hold their value.
Re: Don't Starve Together Receives 'Winter Feast' Update On Switch, Here's What's Included
Fantastic! I loved Don't Starve.

@HerMajestysmyPronoun No, I mean the video game adaptation of Yann Martel's 2001 book.
Yes, Lies of Pi! )))

Re: 'Switch 2' Launching This Year With 8-Inch LCD Screen, According To New Analyst Rumour
@Dm9982 Thanks for your reply chief.
Yes! I am midway through Larian Dos 2 on Switch - fantastic.
Amen to Rockstar and CDPR games
Cities Skylines is a Paradox game - maybe EUIV, Victoria 3, CK3 or the rest! Any one would be awesome.
Mass Effect Trilogy - agree - could work, would sell. Yes the Dragon games too!
I hope From Software ports the rest to Switch 2!
Also Control 2 and Adam Woke 2 as Alan Wake was ported.
Obvs God War is Sony/PC only...
Purchasing a PS5 for the other side of the Venn diagram is a first world problem but a problem nonetheless.
Re: 'Switch 2' Launching This Year With 8-Inch LCD Screen, According To New Analyst Rumour
Guys, I am torn. I love the Switch and Used to have a PS5 for games not on Switch.
I may get a Switch 2 - who thinks the below games will be on it? yay, nay, maybe?
GoW Waganawok (40 hrs)
Dead Space (20 hrs)
Life of Pi (30 hrs)
Adam Woke 2 (29 hrs)
Baldur's Gate 3 (100 hrs)
Elden Ring (100 hrs)
RDR2 (80 hrs)
Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty (80 hrs)
Crusader Kings 3 PS5 (100 hrs)
Mass Effect Legendary (100 hrs)
If some or all of them are, PS5 Pro not required ..
Re: Soapbox: As A 'Slay The Spire' Addict, I Can't Believe I Almost Missed This 2023 Gem

Re: Talking Point: Our 2024 Nintendo Gaming Predictions
I only have a switch now and love it!
This year I will likely pick up a PS5 Pro OR the next Nintendo console......
Difficult!
Re: Talking Point: Along With Joy-Con Drift, What Does Nintendo Have To 'Fix' With 'Switch 2'?
Make the dock an optional purchase
OR
provide something like a Covert Dock Mini from Genki (addition by subtraction)
Re: Talking Point: Could Nintendo Go Another Year Without A Switch Successor?
@JaxonH You have it nearly all covered chief! I have been living out of hand luggage for the past few years so no space currently for a Steamdeck.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Switch Ports We'd Love To See In 2024
Pentiment is a good pick NL!
I'd love to see (that includes Switch 2)
FTL
Papers Please (touch screen)
Baldur's Gate 3 (100 hrs)
Dead Space (20 hrs)
Elden Ring (100 hrs)
RDR2 (80 hrs)
Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty (80 hrs)
Crusader Kings 3 PS5 (100 hrs)
Mass Effect Legendary (100 hrs)
And Adam Woke too!
Re: The Game Awards GOTY For 2023 Is Baldur's Gate 3
BG3 must come to the next Nintendo console. Currently Act 2 on DoS 2! So good.

I had no idea this was out. Thanks for the review.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Buy A Digital-Only 'Switch 2'?
I just hope the next Nintendo console is backwards compatible with digital games.
If yes, I'd eventually buy one so that I can play:
Elden Ring
Baldur's Gate 3
Cyberpunk 2077
Red Dead Redemption 2
Crusader Kings 3
Anno 1800
Dead Space Remake

Re: Review: Genki Shadowcast 2 - The Little Capture Card That Could
I think I will bag the new iteration of this.
I currently have the Genki mini doc, a Kodak Luma 150 pico projector and two 8Bitdo Zero 2 controllers so always ready for big screen 4p couch gaming.
Re: First Paid DLC For Spooky Fishing Adventure Dredge Delayed
@SwitchForce I think Baldurs Gate 3 fits into this category......
Re: Review: Gloomhaven - A Cumbersome But Deep (And Hard-As-Nails) TTRPG Adaptation
@jake1421 Try Jaws of the Lion - 30 USD and has most of Gloomhaven Core box.
Re: Review: Gloomhaven - A Cumbersome But Deep (And Hard-As-Nails) TTRPG Adaptation
My mates and I played a campaign of this and Jaws of the Lion on tabletop. It is great this exists though I say just get the physical board game.
Re: Review: Wargroove 2 - A Must-Play Tactical RPG And A Worthy Successor To Advance Wars
Is this better than Into the Breach for anyone that has played both? Love that game.

Re: Latest Genki Kickstarter Offers New Portable Switch Dock, iPad Connectivity And More

If I told my younger self that I'd be 4p gaming on a 120" screen with tech that has the footprint of a softback book........
Re: Stardew Valley Creator Teases Version 1.6 (Again)
I have been wanting to start a game of this for a long time. Maybe v1.6 could be the right time. Just bagged an 8bitdo Zero 2 controller which I have found works on the mac too.
Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's DLC Physical Release In Japan Includes A Game Card
Quality! I am off to Japan in November.
Will pick the Mario deluxe up as well as Binding of Isaac Repentance and BOTW with DLC.
Re: Company Of Heroes Collection Marches The Classic RTS Game Onto Switch This Autumn
Switch has nearly everything I want.
Hopefully Switch 2 is backwards compatible and will be able to play Elden Ring, Baldurs Gate 3, Diablo 4, Crusader Kings 3, RDR2 and Cyberpunk.
For me, that just leaves God of War Ragnarok, Starfield, Horizons, Mass Effect Trilogy and Last of Us 1 and I am ok with that.
Re: Surprise! Civilization VI's Leader Pass DLC Has Been Released On Switch
This is great news.
I have logged a ticket with 2K as I have all the DLC though Leader Pass still has a price of £17.99 in eshop.....
Re: Review: Shotgun King: The Final Checkmate - Chess With Guns? Definitely Worth A Shot
