It's actually quite a good idea when it comes to replaying the games as it would be a great randomiser. However, from a marketing point of view for the time it wouldn't have been great as catching them all may have been very difficult even trading with others as you could have potential went forever without ever seeing or knowing someone that has caught certain pokemon in person.
Usually the ones developed by Eurocom were of a pretty high standard. The World is not Enough, Nightfire and Goldeneye on the Wii were all good. Seems to be something about British developers working on the games that makes them better.
He says in the video "just wide open fields as far as the eye can see" and that is the problem currently from what people have seen is those wide open fields are empty. I get there are still months to go but unless there are a lot of different things to do in those wide open fields then it could possibly just be space for the sake of giving Sonic somewhere fast to run through to get to the next objective. Perhaps a character who is known for his speed and doing everything fast isn't suited to a big open world where you have to usually slow down and explore.
The do this often re-release games that are really easy to get a hold of in physical form already just for those people who have to buy everything like this under the hope they increase in value one day. Personally I don't see the point in doing this. This kind of thing should only really be for games that weren't originally released for whatever reason and new games not games people can get for a fraction of the price with limited edition bits of card and paper.
Or alternatively Sega could release their back catalogue on every console so more people get to play them rather than the same people that probably still buy every variation of a Megadrive Sega puts out because Sega relies on their success from 30 years ago way too much.
While this may make physical games less rare I don't think it will help with the scarcity of physical copies even after this as if these ones go up for sale later they will certainly be close to an original copy. It is essentially just the third Turrican game on the SNES and while it looks pretty the levels for me are a bit bland in terms of design.
@YANDMAN probably because the game was NTSC only and their primary market is probably for them no point releasing a PAL version due to possible incompatibilities.
@Tasuki I agree with you there most people tend to play many older games only briefly because it's not as good or harder than they remember.
Honestly as someone who loved the original I don't think it holds up well at all even when emulated and controls mapped to a modern layout. From what it seems even the Xbox version is the original N64 version and not the cancelled port from years ago. Games like this are often good for their time period but are one of the genres that age poorly unless enhanced to take advantage of better technology.
Why they don't just do their own digital store where you can buy the games individually and also controllers is beyond me. Rather than releasing a mini console to sell to the same people that brought the last ones relying purely on nostalgia to sell it. If the games were released only modern systems they would at least reach a wider audience.
I will probably pick it up regardless as I still enjoy the collection and exploration aspect of the games. I just won't be putting as much effort into the training that I used to for specific types and stats as that aspect of the games is way too much of a commitment these days.
Sega literally still relying on their one success story 30 years later and people continue to praise them for it. I would rather them release then as a digitally and use an 8-bitdo controller and get the exact same experience. They need to move on from releasing some mini variation of one console that they have been doing in some form or another for the past two decades.
Would have been more interested in this if it included all games and two were locked behind an impossible to get limited run games version that will no doubt be getting resold for several times the price.
This is the problem with giving too much attention to so called inside experts making claims of new games or hardware. For the past few years people have been claiming things like a Switch Pro would be announced because they know what's happening apparently and people take it as true then act like Nintendo suddenly changed their mind last minute.
Seems like this would struggle to run on real hardware although saying that I have seen how much one person has optimised Mario 64 on real hardware recently to get the engine running at well over 30fps and looking better than the original so not out of the realms of possibility that someone has done similar things here if it does run on real hardware.
@BloodNinja no one is forgetting that but it was rushed through development in order to reach an unrealistic launch window. The developers have managed to turn the game around when they could have given up and moved onto something else. Now they continue to expand on the game quite regularly.
So about twenty versions of what is only just four or five games. I surprised this doesn't include the versions that were released on non Sega systems that had different names.
For 2D it was Super Mario World for me and 2D was Galaxy 2 both seemed to refine everything they knew about Mario games in both 2D and 3D spaces. Although I have never played a mainline game in 2D or 3D I haven't enjoyed.
Definitely worth getting both of these either physically or digitally if you are a fan of the single player modes in older Pokemon games. They aren't very complex in terms of mechanics but at least they have enjoyable light hearted stories. They are probably the best pokemon clones done just don't expect a very competitive battle system.
Extinction can be a bit annoying too if you are trying to catch all of the monsters as it is an open world where the wild monsters levels scale with yours and the early evolutions are harder to come across as a result.
A lot of people seem to think Nintendo openly sold them these shares. They were publicly traded on the stock market meaning anyone could buy them. It also doesn't mean they can dictate to Nintendo the content of their games. Also this doesn't mean that they are trying to buy Nintendo as the Japanese government probably wouldn't accept anything like that as they are very much in favour of keeping Japanese companies owned buy people in Japan. So some of the comments are just going overboard with their assumptions.
I think at the time it didn't help that there were so many systems on the market. Sega themselves were still making games at on point for six different ones around '94 in various parts of the world. Not only that but you had all of these different next-gen systems coming out that were both expensive compared to older stuff and no one knew what to get. Even the original PlayStation took a while to start building momentum as the first couple of years it was still an unknown. So I can see why there was concern and it was also the reason companies like Commodore and Atari went bust in a flooded market.
@RandomNerds that was only to demonstrate. They do say in the video when they have it set up for public use they will do it so you can't se the other screens.
I'll be honest wasn't expecting it to actually look playable with only a quarter or the screens resolution filling the screen like that but it seems to work. This would have been great at the time but I can't imagine there would be a cost effective way to ever implement it at the time using one system. If only there was a system link option for N64 games.
@OnlyItsMeReid I figured you not have played the original versions. The Wii versions are actually better for that reason since you don't have to stop and look around so can be played at a faster pace at times.
@OnlyItsMeReid the Metroid Prime games didn't use the second stick to look around though you had to hold the R button down to look around with the same stick to move.
I always imagined a metroid N64 game would have used a modified version of the Zelda game engine what was already modified from Mario 64 and play a bit like Jet Force Gemini if it was ever a thing. Personally I don't see this as that impressive looking unless it was running on a real N64. As it is this is just a low polygon and low resolution texture game running on a PC that doesn't mimic the original hardware.
I know some people are getting carried away with this and thinking it will really dent the switch's sales for some reason. I do think those people need to put it into perspective though as it is going after a much different market and it also isn't going on sale in general retailers now or probably ever so even the lowest spec model which isn't much more expensive than the OLED Switch probably won't sell as much as some seem to think and the other two models are far more expense and more than either the PS5 or the Series X which will really stop it getting mainstream appeal. I personally really want one as I have a large Steam library but I am also hesitant to get one as I am positive after they get a good production run going they will do yearly hardware revisions.
I like tha fact that because the first one on the Wii was originally localised in the UK they have stuck with British accents throughout the series to give it a consistent feel. I don't find it jarring at all and seems more like you are embarrassed more about hearing different regional accents and think "do I sound like that to other people" than anything if you don't like hearing it.
I remember a couple of years ago it was rumoured to be coming to the Switch but Hello Games gave a non answer to the question and nothing was ever said again. Seems like there was a reason for that non answer now. Had the PS4 version since launch and while it was still really a beta then it really has grown so much since then, I got the game dirt cheap on disc because no one wanted it and the moment the Next update launched all those used copies suddenly went up in price. Admittedly I haven't played it too much over the last year or so but the game is worth the investment just because of how much time has been put into improving the game.
Very excited for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 as the series is has pretty much established itself as one of the best jrpg series out there now. The Live A Live remake also pleasantly surprised me because it uses the same engine that Octopath Traveller uses. I am interested in how the No Man's Sky port turns out because if it runs better than I expect I may have to pick it up even though I already have the PS4 version.
I do like that SquareEnix is not only bringing an old game like this out in the west finally but they are also fully remaking it in there new favourite engine for that kind of thing too with DQ3 also using the same one. More 16-bit rpgs remade in this style will suit me fine.
If the game runs like it seems to in the video I will be pleasantly surprised. I played it for ages after a few updates on PS4 as Hello games really did put the effort in after what was essentially a beta version at launch.
