I get that they can be used for cloud gaming when they are idle but would that mean if the majority of the units are in use over a busy period the online service would be effected if it relies solely on those systems to power it? Sort of confusing in that regard as the infrastructure wouldn't be completely dedicated to the cloud gaming aspect. Maybe i am understanding it wrong though.
@Heavyarms55 EV training and breading for natures and IVs used to be a skill in patients and gen 4 is where it ended. It made most pokemon unique stat wise and also competive battles a bit more fun if both of you went in knowing you both didn't have perfect stats. Now essentially if you really take into account you can even change the nature with mints all you have to breed for is the HA and egg moves the rest you can change with items and max out in minutes.
With the exception of a few of the bigger Nintendo games it severely lacks in depth still. In a way I prefer the NES selection as it has some more obscure games I had honestly never heard of or tried before and now it has the awesome Rygar which I still have my original cartridge of that. The only three Snes ones I would say stand a chance of being the best are Zelda, Mario, Yoshi's Island and Metroid. The first Mario Kart for me doesn't hold up as well the same with the FX games. If you haven't played the Breath of Fire games and don't mind some slow paced grinding they are certainly good and you can get a good 80 hours out between the two although you can get a bit lost in places where you almost have to get where to go next.
Never had a Game Gear for a few reasons after trying my friends. First the screen was awful it may have been colour and pretty much identical to the Master System in most ways except for the better colour palette but it was so hard to make anything out clearly, one of the draw backs of both that and the Atari Lynx. Second for a portable system it was expensive to run as you needed to have a huge amount of batteries to play for more than a few hours or have it plugged in at all times which defeated to whole point of it being portable. Third and final reason I already had a Master System and most of the games were identical on both and if anything at least here in Europe the Master System had the better selection. The actual design and the idea of the hardware over the game boy was better but in terms of practicality and exclusive software there was only one choice.
@ClassSonicSatAm they are probably the only things Atgames produced that have some value since they are cheap and are easy to stick any game roms on. Since Sega dropped them for making underwhelming products only to show of one of their own is ironic.
The worrying thing is some parents don't actually know what games their children are actually buying off the eshop or most digital game stores as they for the most part don't set up age restrictions for what can be bought and just buy them either the pre paid cards or have their card details registered on the system at all times.
After all the licenced out handhelds the have done for both the Master System and Mega Drive over the years which all had between 20 and 30 games and an SD card slot for a similar price to these they really have no excuse for only 4 games on each. The only appealing thing is the colours and the novelty of them. Although I have a feeling they won't get released outside of Japan as the Game Gear wasn't exactly that successful anywhere else and these all seem to have Japanese exclusive text heavy games.
Never understood how anyone can pay that kind of money on any game. Only time I ever spent money every month on a single game was when you had to pay monthly to play most MMOs never seen the appeal of spending money just to get throw away items in a game.
The saddest thing is some of these people actually think that rioting is protesting and causing destruction is some home how the answer. Regardless of anything that has happened destroying properties and stealing from those who aren't connected in any way to what this is regarding won't make the ones who are doing it peacefully listened too as it has now become a way for many to think they can break the law with no repercussions. I have seen interviews from people who have been rioting and they seem to think this is acceptable and even one thought that people who owned some properties who try protecting it are wrong for doing so.
6/10 honestly read the first question wrong though and thought it was a trick question since three of them were true statements. I am deeply disappointed in myself on that one.
@Ralziel or you could just have a screen protector on the actual screen like everyone else. I get what you mean though seems to be for that reason but they obviously didn't think that's what screen protectors were doing anyway
@Saint_Link since the dawn of games reviewers publishers have been sending games out to give themselves free publicity. While I understand too many people on platforms like YouTube try and abuse that for themselves when it comes to actual dedicated games media sites the practice should be continued.
A free PC version isn't really going too effect the sales of the Switch version as anyone wanting it on the Switch will be getting it to be fallible to play it anywhere in a less cumbersome manner than a laptop. The only thing that may effect its sales are the lack of any actual gameplay footage or anyone actually having tried the switch versions of any of these games due out tomorrow also odd that in Europe not one of them is even listed on the eshop as of yet. It's one of those things if you weren't told it was coming you wouldn't know it even existed. I am actually now going to wait to see the performance analysis of the games since nothing has even been shown as far as actual Switch screenshots or footage.
@GrandScribe it is in many ways like how both the Mana and Saga games were named on the Game Boy to have Final Fantasy in the name when released in the west to have more brand recognition. It was like Sqare saying were are putting a Final Fantasy game on the Gamecube because the name says so.
Loved playing this with my brother when it came out and it work really well with the gba connected as a controller. Hopefully the multiplayer has built in voice chat though rather than through the mobile app that's if it has any at all. Playing it alone kind of takes away from how it should be played though. I will say the opening song for this is also amazing and was blown away by how good it was at the time and fit the game so well. Kind of want the the Wii game Crystal Bearers to get a port though as it is arguable a much better single player game and looks good too was just vastly over looked in the west and got average reviews for not being anything like either the original or any other Final Fantasy games.
@TheFullAndy the game is pretty difficult in terms of you have to get to certain places to save and sometimes failing to save enough civilians early in the level can really reduce your margin for error later in the level as too many will result in game over and once it is saved there is no way to go back and try again without restarting the game from the start. Obviously modern game design makes it seem more difficult in that regard than it should be but even at that time games had much less restrictive save features.
@TheFullAndy the levels could also be linked together by wormholes in the barriers surrounding them to another time and location to make it a much more seamless open world also then giving you the option of taking vehicles from one time period to another. Not that I have given that aspect any thought it the past...
@TheFullAndy I would love Rockstar North to do that it would make a change from their more normal settings in games that they go for now and would be great with their modern engine. The game doesn't get the respect it deserves for being the blueprint for GTA3 and beyond as it was ahead of it's time in terms of the scale of all the levels
@ukaskew while I agree than certain physical media is handled by different distributors there are many of the larger ones that handle their own distribution globally and is usually only content created independently or in individual countries that is handled by smaller distribution companies. So for the most part it really does come down to things like local tax now like VAT on why region locking physical media still occurs which can be avoided on certain things if they are imported.
Streaming is obviously the modern region locking now it has become pretty much the standard but that was always bound to happen since what is on things like BBC iPlayer is more than likely behind a paywall in other countries although not that it is hard to get around that on the free streaming places or even things like Netflix with a decent VPN. Amazon is actually smarter in that regard by locking it's streaming to the country you signed up in to your account rather than what location it thinks you are in. Now I am just going off on a brain fart though.
@ThanosReXXX still odd how most video forms of media are still region locked to this day despite the vast majority of people now have a HDTV and they support every legacy video resolution and refresh rate for media. Although that is more to do with most governments not wanting you to avoid their tax on a product more than anything now so that is a different story.
@ThanosReXXX I completely get with the whole regional thing and the slight technical differences because of that as the external hardware with the TVs often played a huge part in the discrepancies. Amazing when you think back that it was that which often left Pal gamers with poor unoptimised games rather than the hardware.
Playing NTSC games through a flash cart on the N64 on a 50hz tv can really can also cause havoc too which is amusing. Kind of miss those days of importing an a system and having to jump through hoops to get it running with different things.
@ThanosReXXX but with that entire collection how many of those games are the same game just for a different region? If you removed all of the copies of the same game it would be far smaller which is what this article meant basically a single copy of each game if you included ever regional different version the number of games would obviously be far higher and so would the space the took up
@carlos82 I think it comes down to people like saying they have hundreds of games they can play on a system and they are just there for some weird bragging rights. I find if you have too many to choose from just sitting on a system you either never play most or the choice overwelms people and they only play games for a few minutes at a time.
@Pod Four games were released on 64MB carts Resident Evil 2, Conker, Pokemon Stadium 2 and the Pal version of Paper Mario because it had multiple languages on the cartridge several were in the 40MB region though but quite a few were Japanese exclusive ones. For the first couple of years the only two games that exceeded 16MB were Oot and Turok 2.
@carlos82 exactly why but bad games on too and then keep them there. I understand if it's for a reason like had some kind of odd nostalgia fueled love for it but other than that I don't get it. With all the mini consoles out now and abilities to dump full rom collections on them people seem to do it just for the sake of it. I have a Snes mini and Playstation Classic but frequently remove games I don't think I will play again if they are bad.
@OneOneTwo-112 it's not a case of working in terms of would you be able to play them but in terms of fitting in the space provided on a Switch card then yes you could probably easily fit both the NES and Snes libraries on less than 8GB together as even though there are far more games the file sizes are a tiny fraction in most cases even compared to N64 games.
@carlos82 If I recall it is just over 8GB but if you were to have all of them I don't know why you would have all the sports games just with roster upgrades and slight improvements and just have the best of each series in that regard. Also unless there is a translation for many of the Japanese games I don't see why most people would try and play them unless they have little text or ofcourse you actually can read Japanese. So if a full collection of English games would be release minus the yearly updates for sports games and just have the best in the series it would probably be around the 6-7 GB mark
Pretty sure they all fit on a 16GB SD card with space if you had all of the rom files as the average size was less than 32MB if you were to work it out most being between 16 and 32MB with only a small handful being above 32 and only 4 using the largest 64MB so the maths would be much better if the person doing this just added up all the game file sizes rather than multiplying the total amount of games by the largest size. Maybe I am being extra pedantic on this one though.
@nessisonett sorry got to disagree one of the problems historically with the video games industry is some games were stuck on a singular console and no way to play it years down the line on newer systems the same can't be said for other forms of media. So making older games available on newer systems and everyone after that is a good thing. Also just because you played it doesn't mean everyone has seeing as the it was Nintendo's worst selling console based on your statement as long as you have played it doesn't really matter if others get to experience it.
I can see Xenoblade Chronicles X coming to the Switch as it will probably require a smaller team to port it than a full remaster like the first game so working on the new Zelda game shouldn't be a huge reason why it doesn't get ported like the article states. Personally though I am shocked the 3D World hasn't made it to Switch yet as at this point it is practically a licence to print money as it will surely sell as if it was a new game since so few would have played it despite being the second biggest selling Wii U game. I can also see games like Deus Ex coming now things like Borderlands are coming as well as the Batman Arkham games and the Mass Effect trilogy.
I can't see why Nintendo seems to like creating phone apps that either should have those features on the console too or take functionality out of a game and put it in an app such as pokemon home and the GTS feature as it isn't even accessible in the switch app. The normal switch online app is bizarre as it does what other third party games can do through the Switch and that has been a standard way of doing it since the original Xbox. I could understand if the app let you do all of the same functionality in regards to communication that the switch could already do just when you are away from the system like both the Playstation and Xbox apps do but not act as a bare bones substitute that only a few games support. If your one big selling point for using the app is to put a few pictures on a single game then it isn't that much of a must use app seeing as the actually main functionality is poor. Also the whole you can talk to some one on your phone while playing with them on a game. Well then you might as well just phone them or use a multitude of of communication apps that work better and faster. Honestly isn't like they have invented the most conveluted way possible to make a phone call on your phone for a select few games.
@biglittlejake except when Colleseum was first released Emerald was still a year away and people would not have known those pokemon were all available in it so for a full year at least the only way legitimately get many of those pokemon was have the Gamecube games as it was pretty much sold as the the only way to get all of those pokemon. Saying that not all of the Gold and Silver Pokemon were in Emerald only about half of them and the rest were in Fire Red and Leaf Green so you still needed a combination of having access to people with multiple games. You may not have seen Pokemon Colleseum as a kind of expansion pass but for many at the time it was and is no different to this and a further way to get people to buy more Pokemon software.
@biglittlejake really the dlc is nothing price wise than how they chose to make most Gen 2 pokemon available during Gen 3 and that was release them in side games on the Gamecube so this method of releasing them on new locations in the game as dlc is no different in that regard.
While the handheld resolution isn't amazing at it's lowest this isn't exactly just a higher resolution port of the Wii version either it is improved visually in every way. Although the original is still pretty fantastic as far as huge environments go when no one was trying things that expensive on the Wii.
I think this week most new games may be skipped seeing as next week there are loads of big releases. Buy of all of the games this week Journey to the Savage Planet is the most appealing to me just didn't help that it randomly dropped yesterday with no publicity.
From just about no FPSs on the Switch to loads being released in a short space of time of each other this definitely looks like it will be a good retro style blast along with ion fury. Love the 8-bit style visuals in 3d too.
@kingbk I have been looking up reviews for it myself mainly the PS4 version and it has been getting a lot of average to positive reviews. It seems quite short but from what I can gather it is a very much like Metroid Prime with a No Man's Sky look to it.
Kind of split between this Void Bastards and Journey to the Savage Planet which was also released to and all three are the same price but of the three Journey to the Savage Planet seems to peek my interest more being a bit like Metroid Prime in structure.
While I'm not a massive fan of basketball games and the last time I had any kind of situation game was back on the N64 with NBA courtside so I may pick this up seeing as there is a lack of sports games on the Switch at all. Still holding out for PES to get released as I prefer that over Fifa and the Fifa games on switch are still using the engine from last gen. Ironic really considering the one genre that is normally on every system without fail is absent for the most part on Switch.
I don't mind if mobile games get ported to home systems but usually only of they feel like they were designed to work with normal controllers and not clearly designed for touchscreen and designed to only be played in short bursts I have tried it and because it is so on rails and the combat is a mess it really seems like a waste of time porting it in the first place.

So making older games available on newer systems and everyone after that is a good thing. Also just because you played it doesn't mean everyone has seeing as the it was Nintendo's worst selling console based on your statement as long as you have played it doesn't really matter if others get to experience it.
Re: Feature: Potential Switch Port Round-Up - The Wii U Games That Haven't Come To Switch
Re: Talking Point: Has Animal Crossing Finally Made The Nintendo Switch Online App Worthwhile?
Re: Get Ready For Sword And Shield's Isle Of Armor DLC With These Four Mystery Gift Pokémon
Re: Random: This Fake Switch Costs $80, But Don't Expect It To Play Animal Crossing: New Horizons
PowKiddy? Is Pow the sound you hear when it smashes against the wall when you're Kiddy finds out it's not a real Switch?
Re: Get Ready For Sword And Shield's Isle Of Armor DLC With These Four Mystery Gift Pokémon
@biglittlejake really the dlc is nothing price wise than how they chose to make most Gen 2 pokemon available during Gen 3 and that was release them in side games on the Gamecube so this method of releasing them on new locations in the game as dlc is no different in that regard.
Re: Early Tech Analysis Of Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition Reveals Frame Rate And Resolution
While the handheld resolution isn't amazing at it's lowest this isn't exactly just a higher resolution port of the Wii version either it is improved visually in every way. Although the original is still pretty fantastic as far as huge environments go when no one was trying things that expensive on the Wii.
Re: Nintendo Download: 22nd May (Europe)
I think this week most new games may be skipped seeing as next week there are loads of big releases. Buy of all of the games this week Journey to the Savage Planet is the most appealing to me just didn't help that it randomly dropped yesterday with no publicity.
Re: Project Warlock Will Bring DOOM And Duke Nukem-Style Retro FPS Action To Switch Soon
From just about no FPSs on the Switch to loads being released in a short space of time of each other this definitely looks like it will be a good retro style blast along with ion fury. Love the 8-bit style visuals in 3d too.
Re: Review: The Persistence - Firesprite's Likeable VR Horror Has Survived The Shift To Switch Perfectly
@kingbk I have been looking up reviews for it myself mainly the PS4 version and it has been getting a lot of average to positive reviews. It seems quite short but from what I can gather it is a very much like Metroid Prime with a No Man's Sky look to it.
Re: Review: The Persistence - Firesprite's Likeable VR Horror Has Survived The Shift To Switch Perfectly
Kind of split between this Void Bastards and Journey to the Savage Planet which was also released to and all three are the same price but of the three Journey to the Savage Planet seems to peek my interest more being a bit like Metroid Prime in structure.
Re: Grab NBA 2K20 On Sale For Just £2.49 On The European Switch eShop
While I'm not a massive fan of basketball games and the last time I had any kind of situation game was back on the N64 with NBA courtside so I may pick this up seeing as there is a lack of sports games on the Switch at all. Still holding out for PES to get released as I prefer that over Fifa and the Fifa games on switch are still using the engine from last gen. Ironic really considering the one genre that is normally on every system without fail is absent for the most part on Switch.
Re: Review: The Elder Scrolls: Blades - A Grindy Free-To-Play Bastardisation Of Bethesda's RPG Classic
