Spacefaring Epic 'No Man's Sky' Is Coming To Nintendo Switch

I dread what they done to get it on Switch, it runs so poorly on last gen consoles now due to how big it is that i can see some big downgrades to get it on Switch. I hope its a great port and if it is i will get it but i can see this being too much of downgrade to go from PS5 to Switch especially as its a game what is heavily visual based.

Awesome this could be really cool, from the trailer it looks like the performance is up to snuff and I can see myself losing hours playing this game in handheld with headphones on.

I'm interested. Even if it runs poorly I would like to see how it runs on switch and what tricks they used to get it running. Also The Witcher was great to play on my 40 minute train rides to work, I can see this one taking its place

Or it could be a 260p 25fps "impossible" port.

This just has to be cloud, that footage was no Switch.

Not looking forward to this but will try it if it ever hits the bargain bin.

With the arrival of the Deck, many of these ports will loose it's reason reason to be. I wonder how the Deck will affect the gaming industry as a whole, if it actually works.

@CarlosM87 Steam deck doesn't seem practical at all, it looks heavy impractical to carry around with me all day

...and yet Disney told Square Enix to make Kingdom Hearts ALL cloud games on the Switch. The mouse's hate for the plumber runs deep.

@CarlosM87 not so much. I'm getting one, but I'd be naive to think Valve and Steam will have an affect on the Switch or the other consoles. The Deck could hit the Xbox and PlayStation in the future, but its first attack is on Windows. Gabe is looking to peel away PC gaming from Microsoft in a big way. If the Deck does well, they will HEAVILY push SteamOS and it could affect PC builders OS choices in the future. Especially when it's free.

Really impressed by how good this looks considering it is running on Switch. At first I did not think it was Switch footage, but the resolution is very low to not be.

I don't trust this game as far as I can throw it.

Initially I was thinking it's a Cloud version, how does it even look so good? Amazing stuff.

Cross save would be amazing, but I won't get my hopes up for it.

@CarlosM87 It won't do much I personally do not think. Steam games for the majority are not built around playing with a controller, sure some games do as I play with my old Wii U controller for Steam. But for the most part most games are not controller supported so it really limits the console itself.

Please confirm who is porting this so it can be finally confirmed this is not a cloud version. Virtuos maybe? Panic Button? I wanted this on my Switch since 2018, and this feels like finally the time

@CarlosM87 for sure. There are ports who cost 50-60$ on switch, but on steam they cost 5-10$. You can buy the steam deck easily with the money you save from switch ports.

I think it could work. subnautica ran pretty good. They'll probably just lower the graphics and resolution.

@CarlosM87 I expect little to no impact on the gaming industry overall from Steam Deck. It's cool, but I don't see it breaking off a significant chunk of console gamers.

@CarlosM87 You will be surprised how clunky and heavy the Steam Deck actually is. The fact that the battery runtime is 2 hours or less is not a big issue, because nobody wants to hold it in their hands for longer than this. Also, with the very limited power budget, many games will only run at 720p30 or 800p30, for most games it will not deliver the 60 fps you are used to on PC. I predict that not only a fewer customers will regret their purchase.

This is gonna have such crazy downscaling on the planets with the procedurally generated everything mechanic. The static scenes look muddy but passable. I'm very skeptical this can hold up on Planet. But I'll wait for more.

@Matthew90 Nah, the Switch's problem is rarely the GPU stuff, you can always adjust that until it runs, even if it looks really blurry (look at Outer Worlds for instance). The games that were originally for other platforms require a lot of optimization to run in other areas as well, especially CPU which is extremely weak on Switch. No Man's Sky is a CPU heavy game and that's why I'm impressed they even bothered to port it.

@WallyWest No it doesn't, it runs absolutely perfectly on a standard PS4.

@Savage_Joe I loved The Outer Worlds on Switch just as much as the PS4 version.

@Alex79uk Haha no it doesn't, until i moved to the PS5 version i was with the PS4 version since the midnight release so i know how well the PS4 version runs. The moment it gets busy the framerate tanks, bases struggle hard, its pretty buggy at times and all or that gets worse each update. Its playable sure but its barely coping.

This is great. I was hoping for this. I've played the PC version since launch and it improved tremendously. I hope the Switch version can run fine.

I'm interested. When I sold off my Sony gaming collection (I barely have the time to feed my Nintendo addiction) I was upset to leave this game behind. Now I get to play it on my console of choice fully fleshed out and updated.

@Captain_Toad not only NMS is fixed, but improved in every way. It's now a fun game to play

@steventonysmith I'm just saying that the "impossible" ports are not impossible if you lower resolution, frame rate, geometry, density, lighting...

I will want to see the performance but I got into this from Gamepass so I would buy it now.

@Banjo- The procedural generation engine is the issue in this case. Graphically it's not bonker's unless it wants to be, even on XBSX or PS5. 30fps should be expected. Oddly tho, you watch the gameplay trailer and it does seem to handle the procedural draw-in effect really well. On last gen, even on an XB1X you could watch it building with massive pop-in. Yeah it's muddy. But it doesn't look terrible. My big concern is the Switch and it's limited RAM. It's always been on my Wish List of games for the Switch but I really didn't think it could be pulled off.

I agree with you and I like that developers take the challenge even if it's just because the Switch user base is huge. Playing Doom Eternal on Xbox and Switch it's like they are different games, though. I'll watch the comparisons when this comes out and I'll be happy for those that want to play No Man's Sky on Switch. It's, as you suggest, very interesting to see what sacrifices are made with each of these ports.

This game chugs on my PS4... I won't be double dipping that's for sure.

I don't share the dread of this running poorly on Switch. It's an old PS4 game, and we''ve seen such ports run quite well. If you consider Doom, which seems to have much more graphical complexity, it ran well.

If they do a deal with Nintendo for Samus armour and her ship, I'll get this day 1.

@Savage_Joe as someone that played through the entirity of Outer Worlds plus both of it's DLC's I have to say that the game was great to play through.
Actually hyped at this announcement.

1: Is this gonna be like ARK?
2: is this going to be fully up to date?
3: did the game ever become playable/enjoyable on PS4?

I'll be amazed if it ends up looking like the trailer, can't believe that's Switch footage. However happy to eat my words if this makes it over intact, no one thought the Witcher 3 would be as decent as it was - downgrade, yes but still a great port in my book 🤞

I gave this game a chance when it launched on PS4 and I don't feel like diving back in on Switch. There's too many other games to play and so little time

If the game runs like it seems to in the video I will be pleasantly surprised. I played it for ages after a few updates on PS4 as Hello games really did put the effort in after what was essentially a beta version at launch. If this version turns out decent I may be tempted to pick it up. If I am correct a couple of years ago a Switch version was removed but Hello games didn't really say yes or no to the possibility seems like it was a yes.

Everybody said Doom Eternal will never run on Switch. But it runs great. I believe Hello Games can make this happen! They learned from past mistakes and won’t ruin their progress made with no man’s sky on other consoles by releasing a crappy version on Nintendo.
