Remember all those experts that predicted a Switch Pro would be announced like they have been the last couple of years? Amazing how accurate their insider knowledge is to keep guaranteeing it and it never appears.
This would really only useful as a system feature that you could access without having to quit the game. Now I think of it why have no console manufacturers implemented it before?
When I was younger I would play certain games through multiple times because I had the time and I genuinely loved them. That was SNES era. Same went when I had an N64 and that was when unlockables were more common so not only did I beat the games multiple times but actually aimed for beating them as much as I could on the harder difficulties, I had a sence of pride getting all the gold medals on Lylat wars on both difficulties. The same could be said for the Gamecube for the most part but by then I actually owned all the consoles on the market so I noticed I started only playing more games once before moving on because I had far more choice.
These days I will go back to games I played 20 years ago every now and again or if there is a new remaster of them to play on a more convient system. Most modern games because of the size I will only play through once just to experience them and then probably never go back again because there is so much choice and partly because I don't have as much time.
@JimmySpades why are you taking his comments personally? He may not have developed a game but if you play enough games you get to know what is generic with very little effort put in. Unlike him the developers of these games have made countless games before many of which are under Kemco offering similar generic experiences. You are also comparing an individual making a game on RPG maker to a team of paid professionals pumping out games so that in itself isn't a fair comparison.
I enjoyed the first game enough but one thing that bothered me was the how the voice acting sounded. It was like everyone was speaking in a tunnel and it sounded hollow. If there is one thing I would want them to fix is that. Never got a chance to play the second game since it wasn't released in Europe so if they were to actually release them at a reasonable I would probably pick them up.
@Heavyarms55 this has been a feature since the Xbox One allow people to purchase developer mode which allows people to essentially run windows apps on an Xbox. Retroarch being one, the feature was introduced as a way to give hackers less incentive to do the same thing. in developer mode it just prevents certain uses of Xbox live features to prevent hacking in commercial games and for the most part has actually been successful.
Axelay was one of those early SNES games that very few managed to match visually because there is so much going on at once. Although early on developers were really willing to use every graphical effect they could even if it caused a lot of slowdown. Personally I sucked at the game regardless but loved how good it looked. This might be up there with the fixed version of Street Fighter Alpha 2 for me.
Based on those figures Vesperia will overtake soon since it is available for purchase on all modern systems and Symphonia will soon only be available on PC as even the digital version on PS3 will be unavailable in the next few months.
@huyi well seeing as people still like playing on retro systems and like better options to connect them to modern displays that don't involve modding the system or having to have a CRT that will probably die sooner rather than later. I would say there are a fair few people that would buy this.
This is one thing people who become rabid fanboys of things don't understand they think that these companies hate each other like that do. Showing blind loyalty to a product and feeling you have to defend it to the point of saying bad things about another product isn't what these companies want or care about. Sadly in my time I have found it is more adults as well that act that way when it comes to that behaviour and more online now not with just games but with so many forms of media that have alternatives too.
This wasn't much of an issue until Nintendo started going back to the layout with classic and pro controllers from the Wii onwards. If I spend some time playing games on a Playstation now I have to spend several minutes of pressing the wrong buttons to confirm and cancel before I adjust. If only Sony had kept it the same but then again it was more because of how western developers were programming their games that it started to become the standard place for the confirm and cancel buttons.
This isn't unusual for Australia they have had several games and some that do get released get certain things altered or censored in order to get released at all. They probably have some of the strictest requirements even for their highest age ratings of any country in aware of.
Guinness World Records declaring something just means someone payed them for the publicity. If someone builds a smaller one in the future but doesn't want to pay to have some "expert" come out to see you then this will forever keep the record.
Imagine being so desperate for cards in a game that will be meaningless next year that you are willing to pay huge amounts of real world cash in the first place.
"Experts" say this every year now pretty sure it started less than a year after the Switch launched. Also remember "experts" started saying the same thing after about a year of the Wii coming out because they said it couldn't keep selling against what else was available. What these experts don't factor in is not everyone only wants something with higher specs pretty sure little Jimmy and Jenny only care about fun and not what the screen is made of or the amount of pixels displayed.
@nessisonett there does seem to be more here against an 8 year old for playing a game that many people don't like more than anything. You make a good point that many wouldn't even care of this child was making money for playing some form of musical instrument or even was making money as a child actor or even if he was part of some youth academy of a sports team. The moment it is by playing a game a few hours a day it is seen as a negative and viewed as bad parenting based on comments.
I'm actually interested in how this will work out as it seems to be a massive expansion of the open world aspect introduced in the wild area and the two lots of dlc. Just seeing the trainer throw a pokeball at wild roaming pokemon is actually something I thought I wouldn't see. Wondering how fleshed out the game will be though and if it will be a full on pokemon game or just a side game that's shorter.
@Gamecuber oh no doubt I remember seeing the remake of Resident Evil and being blown away and I agree for curiosity sake is why I would want to see what changed. Although I don't know how far along Zero was despite being announced in 99 but from what I understand Eternal Darkness much like Dinosaur Planet was in a near finished state before development switched systems.
@Gamecuber remember a lot of the previews back then. There was even a magazine here in the UK that had a huge interview with someone at Rare about it. Much like a lot of games that were released late on the system it really did show what the hardware was capable of it's just a shame because developers needed to find publishers that would invest in expensive cartridge production we didn't get to see too many games like it or ones that were really designed for the PSone. Still holding out that one day the N64 version of Eternal Darkness and Resident Evil Zero surface or one of the many cancelled games that we probably never knew about.
@Gamecuber I think the problem was they not only had to convert the entire game to a new system and much more advanced engine but they had only a fraction of the time to do it compared to how long they had been working on it for the N64. Considering it was a really early N64 game it really was overall one of the best graphical games. Sadly though even by that point most of Rare's key staff had gone and by the time they began releasing Xbox 360 games their quality had dropped. Although Viva Piniata was incredibly original and fun for what it was.
@Gamecuber from what I recall from before it was released is the game was supposed to be almost twice as long and be on two discs from what I am remembering and was potentially rushed near the end because of the sale to Microsoft.
Didn't realise they started implementing Fox as the main character on the N64 version the only stuff I had ever seen of the game had Sabre as that character. So obviously that decision to make it a Star Fox game came before it was moved to a Gamecube game. From what I recall back when it was shown for the first time as a Gamecube game it was said to have been a change that was made when it moved systems. Although I guess this build seeing as it was never shown off to the public could have been the start of that transition and Rare were just trying out ideas.
One big problem is games that get announced so early in development that it is still a few years away from ever being a finished and as the months and years go by with nothing to see people start to speculate or constantly get their hopes up about hearing information at a big press conference or things like Direct's and then get disappointed over and over again. I usually only take interest in most games as they get close to release although I think age has meant I am not overly excited about game hype and wait to actually see a game in action now. With longer and longer development times for really large games announcing them years in advance seems pointless.
@Clyde_Radcliffe they were purchased by an equity group in 2007 or 8 and since then they have had multiple different CEOs since then they have had multiple companies buying shares and a few have had majority ownership for a while so they kept their focus on what was making them money.
@Clyde_Radcliffe since Codemasters switched ownership a decade or so ago they only became focused on making racing games as they were their biggest money makers. Since then they were different because in the past Codemasters always at least tried to make original games even if they were rough around the edges.
In all honesty over the past decade since Codemasters stopped making any original games and solely became a developer and publisher of racing games they stopped being a creative team and focused on what was making them money. Nothing wrong with that but at the same time they have ignored their huge catalogue of games that they were probably never going to do anything with. They will probably get named EA England or something soon.
@Excalibur_120 I actually agree the dungeons are great in this game and are it's strength as well as the story. The bits in between can be less fun though since as you say it is very linear. I did like that you could upgrade all the weapons and other things too rather than simply finding them in a chest something they improved upon in botw.
Played through this on launch on the Wii and admittedly it gets a bit dull in places and at times doesn't feel as epic as other Zelda games but I can see why this is coming to Switch since not that many people played it even on the Wii because of how late the game came out and it is probably the worst selling Zelda game on a home console. I see a lot of people disappointed by the announcements of these Directs and I think the only reason people get so disappointed is they listen to rumours of what will be announced or what others want in comments and outside of releasing everything you want they are going to be a let down.
@Deliesh Plok actually benefits from save states because it can actually be brutal on some of the later levels and can be a pain to beat the game in one sitting. Even at the time when it was getting rave reviews lack of any kind of save or password feature was probably it's biggest criticism. It's also one of the most unique platform from the time because the art style makes I look really basic in still images but really striking in motion.
I am usually not against any kind of random stuff being posted because it can be of some interest to someone. This however is literally just stating something everyone knew would happen like any other movie of a similar ilk. It's not even highlighting some bizarre merchandise that has already been shown off just the fact that it will get made so answering a question people already knew the answer to.
I'm a huge fan of Tales games but kind of disappointed about not getting more games ported to the Switch. Recently played through the first Tales of Xillia game as I missed out on it when it first got released and it is now one of my favourites in the series so wouldn't hate seeing it on the Switch. The thing with Tales games is because their basic gameplay has remained largely the same since Symphonia you can pretty much jump into most while picking up the differences along the way.
As many fighting games that were on 16-bit systems I find the majority of them were really poor at the time or have aged poorly. I loved certain ones at the time but outside of a small handful they really needed better hardware.
I remember seeing this game reviewed way back when it was first released but never really was interested as there were just so many better platform games around at the time and it was really hard to stand out at the time.
