An exhibit like this being made in a museum at the same time the pandemic is going is a bit odd since it's still a current thing. Don't Museums usually wait some time before they do things like that? Or will they call in the news section of the museum?
I got last years version so I will hold off for a couple of years to get another one. Even with a few improvements I am not as invested in playing the games as I once was nearly 20 years ago where they caused countless sleepless nights.
As average as the Star Fleet Academy game was on the Snes I played it to death back when it came out and was one of those games that I only seemed to enjoy because I loved the shows and movies. Although I still have sunk thousands of hours into Star Trek Online as many problems as it has had over the years I find the actual story to be well worth it for people who like Star Trek from the 90s as it's stories are actually considered canon and there is even one story arch involving Ferengi that is actually hilarious at one point. Still hoping for a port to Switch as it is one of those games I would be able to play as I am watching other stuff just because I have gotten so much from it.
@WiiHawk you don't really know how crazy some people get over the smallest things that some people feel they are entitled to have things their way on. If he was voiced and the same people hated it they would make the exact same comments towards that voice actor it has nothing to do with her gender.
These games are vastly over priced for their overall quality to begin and other than a few recent ones that seem to have stopped looking like the really cheap mobile games they are they probably aren't worth it even at these prices.
I will admit some of the games they are adding are certainly much more eclectic and aren't games that have been rerelessed un the past so it's actually a good thing in a way that such games that most people would probably ignore get some attention.
Even before the current restrictions of what is and isn't allowed to be open in certain places I always find stores like this struggle these days and end up being more like videogames museums with all the really expensive stuff locked in glass cabinets that no one will ever buy in the local area. One that used to be near me a few years back was dead most of the time and everytime I would go in there the one guy that worked there was sitting playing games all day with this one person that also seemed to just stand there all day watching him. It quickly closed when a CEX opened up and was cheaper on pretty much everything.
@Peach64 quickly made? You really don't know much about the development of the game if you consider a development period of 3 years to be a quickly made game. It is also far more than a reskin and adds a lot to the overall package.
I am more interested to see what they actually do to the unfinished sequel that they now I believe own the source code to. The leaked beta has been floating around for a while now and I believe most of the game was complete. Although I still think it would be difficult to go in to these older games using someone else's tools that they custom made as it would require a lot of trial and error to get used to them and even getting them working properly. They also picked up the unfinished Dragon Sword from the same developer at the same time and little has emerged from that either. They have yet to really add extra content to finish of games as complex as these. The only N64 game they have published was one that was already finished and all they had to do was change a bit of code so it could run on real hardware and that was something others had already done before them when the rom was dumped years before. I am not holding out hope the finish the sequel any time soon.
One reason why I always use my own controller when playing against anyone is in general most people seem to not clean their controllers all that much in general and are often thick with dirt in many areas. When I have purchased used retro controllers over the years the first think I tend to do is dismantle them and scrub them clean. Modern ones I tend to avoid buying used since some are really fiddly to reassemble.
Seems like the FIFPro license at that football games have been advertising they have for real player names and likenesses is only really profitable for FIFPro themselves which seems odd. Odder is that not one active player in the last two decades has bothered to question FIFPro for profiting off their names and likeness without some of that money making it's way to any players anywhere in the world. Chances are that when they sign their contracts their is something in them about FIFPro being the legal holder of all players names and appearances. Although if money were to be given to all players in the games I would imagine the fee they would want would increase massively so they still make and be able to pay even a small fee to everyone. So one one two things would happen the price of the games would increase or EA would have to drop the FIFPro license and only fully license a select few leagues and teams on a different deal.
Officially licensed means officially over priced. It was the same starting with the Wii and those SD cards because sticking the Nintendo name on them meant they didn't drop in price for ages when compared to the same capacity of the exact same card without the Nintendo branding. Also since you will rarely if never see the card the designs are moot.
The fact that people get so attached to games and any kind of media these days that their anger leads them to do things like this. I don't get any pure hate for any video game publisher simply for making a game in a way you don't like or implementing something that will make them more money that isn't mandatory for you to purchase. It's not like the publisher has personally wronged you in some way. In general it shows people don't know how to handle their emotions by doing things like this and can't put their dislike for products into perspective as you can imagine this is someone who is upset by one of their latests games thinking this will be fun revenge.
@Tasuki it's also the reason why so many movie and anything based on a show eventually gets delisted from digital stores as some IPs switch holders unless they get an unlimited usage of it like most of the Lego games do as they never seem to disappear even the oldest ones.
@Tasuki thanks for that I actually forgot to list them. People do seem to think it would be as easy as simply republishing these old games though. Many don't actually think about who is actually in the games because the rights to their likeness are contractually part of the WWE any longer and only a small percentage of wrestlers in the games will be for something 20 years old now.
@Tasuki two people in No Mercy that would have to be left out are Chris Benoit and the Fabulous Moolah because of her controversy after she died. You also have people like Chris Jericho, Billy Gunn, Dean Malenko, Matt Hardy, Tazz, Jim Ross and Earl Hebner who are in the game who are all contracted to AEW currently so I can't see both sides coming to an agreement on that. It would be more effort than it is worth to get an old wrestling game remastered for modern systems.
Not sure why you would change the graphical style of the game like that. Part of the charm of the game to begin with was the look so it actually looked like the source material.
@NotoriousWhiz it would be an issue releasing an old wrestling game regardless of the name on it. Due to the likeness of many people in the game that no longer work for the company so it order to republish anything like that they would have to come to agreements with the people themselves or those who represent them. It's why most old sports games don't get remastered simple because most of the licenses for things in the game have expired and will probably cost more to include them as they are no longer part of one unified organisation.
The art style looks the opposite of a serious wrestling game that I think many people were expecting. Although is a bit ironic that they had to wait to get Yukes as a developer after telling people constantly that they were AKI for ages. Although I did point out at the time that they hadn't made a big budget game in over a decade and people when crazy at me and said I had no idea what I was talking about.
Personally I think this is bad as they have been the only really big UK publisher left for a long time and even though they just make racing games now their output has been consistent for the past decade.
I'm actually really like the design but I am wondering what purpose the split design actually offers? Also curious what the trigger does and if it's the same as one of the extra buttons on the 6 button controller? Either way it's an interesting thing and at the time people were really trying out different ideas. Some third party controllers of the 90s were bizarre to say the least.
I remember at the height of the shows popularity when the PSone version came out but even that was at a budget price. I seen this on the eshop ages ago as coming soon but my first thought was that is way too high a price for what will essentially be a bunch of static screens with questions on them. This new mode could be fun and adds to the game but the price still seems a bit much and you seem to be paying more for the branding than the content.
The thing I have really taken from both parts of the dlc is the game should have been open world to begin with. This new part shows how easy it is to implement towns in that kind of environment rather than having them as separate maps. It sadly at times feels like this generation was more of a test for future games and the direction they should go than anything. I have gotten plenty out of the game but at times it feels both full of stuff to do and empty at the same time.
@Giygas_95 instant 10 from me anything with that name sounds like a masterpiece. Thank you I never would have found that amazing gem any time soon. I would Google it with the world Wii after to find out more but I am worried the words furies + Wii may get me a different kind of video.
I might start rating some of the most random games a 10 based on stupidity of name alone. May take me about a week to get through the list though with such a large library compared to the N64 one that was done recently.
Being classed as the game's hardest challenge isn't exactly a feat as overall anything in the game lacks too much of a challenge in general. Even the battle tower is a breeze because nothing is restricted. I will no doubt explore every corner of this new place on day one but I am not expecting too difficult. The isle of armor was great to explore at first but after doing everything once there was little left to do and I expect the same with this so not going to expect too much that is game changing.
The biggest mistake this game made on release was having a superior cancelled version being bundled with it. From what I understand most people brought the physical version for that over the Wii U version anyway.
Always found it amusing that you had the players on the front of the packaging but not even those specific players names were in the games. The German cover is a case of the replaced Paul Ince but made the stare down make no sense. But the UK version is definitely the best but only because it actually for a sports game actually tries to show a rivalry.
@GrailUK I had the original broken copy and I honestly didn't expect to actually find a fixed copy. It came across a copy one day in WH Smiths when I went in looking for stuff for college and ended up spending far more than I was expecting because I didn't think I would ever see a copy again living in a town that had very few places that stocked games at the time.
I would imagine it is for show more than actual use seeing as it lacks an actual d-pad to be able to control anything and the blue bloby things doesn't look usable or functional in any way. Still looks good though.

It works out at $39.19 in comparison to the US price.
@PretendWorking sorry but the only one who is throwing a childish tantrum here is you at the very existence of this review. Also comparing a game that is released yearly with only roster and kit up dates to games that have to be ported over from a different system and there are differences in system architectures isn't even comparing the same type of thing.
@PretendWorking ok but your answer avoided why you seemed confused about a website that reviews games on Nintendo systems reviewing a game on one of those systems.
@PretendWorking you are on a Nintendo website that reviews the latest games released on the system to inform people if they think in their opinion if it is worth buying it and because you don't like they game a negative review you don't think they should publish it to begin with? Just because the game on a base level doesn't actually play badly doesn't mean that it being the same game being released three years in a row with no changes made shouldn't be highlighted.
The fact that even the eshop listing says it is the same as last year and no changes were made anyone buying it expecting different only has their lack of reading to blame. That being said it's still no excuse to charge full price for it for something that modders have being doing for free for years on PES games. I am sure with EA's resources they could put a dedicated dev team together for the Switch version and actually have them try and implement some of the features of the primary version of this game or at least some unique modes for the Switch. Seeing as the install base for the switch is still growing any actual effort from them would probably increase sales.
@TheFullAndy well the 2% is only better if the overall sales numbers were greater. If they are less then it isn't as good. Just because the percentage is higher doesn't mean more units being sold.
@Moistnado so because of that do you think they should just distribute all of their stuff internationally for free? Or should others outside of the UK not be allowed to ever see anything they produce? That would also mean all of the toys and other merchandise that has been licensed out over the years should be free despite having manufacturing costs. I think the License fee is outdated but these games were not paid for by that and you are just using this article about games to get angry about that which is completely off topic.
How dare you tell me what to do. I will not get hyped simply because a headline tells me. But may pick the game up at some point but after beating it on the Wii U years back I don't feel all that compelled to pick it up again at full price.
@Moistnado just because a product has BBC on it doesn't mean it is funded by the license fee. They make money by selling the rights for others to broadcast their shows both domestically and internationally. Which is how projects like these games would get funded.
I remember the demo version seemed to be on the Playstation store for years before ever being released. When you spend so much time and all of your funds making a game unless it sells really well fast you are probably going to be in trouble financially at some point.
