While we're still awaiting news of Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final being localised to the West, the popularity of its processor - unsurprisingly called Shin Megami Tensei IV - gives us hope that Atlus will bring the title outside of Japan.
For now we can only follow coverage for the February 2016 release in Japan, and it's been confirmed in Famitsu magazine that various aspects of the previous entry will have a presence in Final. For one thing those with save data for the predecessor on the same system will receive special items and equipment.
Beyond that a number of cast members from Shin Megami Tensei IV are returning, so spoiler warning - details thanks to Gematsu.
- Flynn (voiced by Yuki Kaji) – The protagonist of Shin Megami Tensei IV. He is revered as a messiah who defeated angels and demons one after the other.
- Jonathan (voiced by Hiroshi Kamiya) – He became one with Merkabah and is aiming for a world free of impurity.
- Walter (voiced by Katsuyuki Konishi) – Originally a human being, Walter was reborn as Lucifer. From time to time, he returns to his human form, and has his previous memories.
- Isabeau (voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro) – In order to save Flynn from the hands of the Polytheistic Gods Alliance, she joins the new hero of Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final as a partner.
Polytheistic Gods Alliance
- Miroku (voiced by Michiko Kaiden)
- Odin (voiced by Atsushi Miyauchi)
That's the latest batch of information for you; fingers crossed that this one will also make it to the West in 2016.

My hype meter for this game keeps rising! Can't wait to see their updated looks!
I just can't wait, it's so amazing that both of my favorite 3DS games (SMT4 & Bravely Default) are getting direct sequels.
I think u mean predecessor not processor in the first sentence
Its difficulty to place this.
It's not quite a sequel as it takes place before the end of IV.
It's like a interquel, retcon, or a Alternate universe version of events.
Excellent.. I have already beaten the game three times now and maxed out my level and stats, I hope this will transfer too.. But I'm little concerned, what do they mean by ''same system''? Because I'm thinking of switching to a ''New" 3DS..
Squee!
@GMB-001 If you do a system transfer, it'll be fine.
@Expa0 Very excited for this as well! But BD ... I got to the whole time-loop thingy, but after fighting through I think two or three of those, I gave up, the whole thing became a drag :-/
I prefer me some FE:A and soon FE:F in addition to SMT, but to each their own! ^^
The hype for this game just won't quit.
Good game
Terrible map
@GMB-001 It will probably read your save data. If you get a new 3ds and do a system transfer your saved data will just be transferred Your new 3ds won't really notice the difference really!
@TheNomad The map looks like it's been tidied up in the latest trailer. I hope they have less poison swamps though!
@TheNomad Terrible doesn't expalin enough, it's so bad that almost makes an amazing game something boring and tedious.
Guess this explains more about the 2 ending paths, that SMTIV universe will have. One is the obvious ending path that Flynn achieves in the first SMTIV game, and the second one is what you achieve with this second character along with the help of Flynn (and Isabeau), if the polytheistic alliance interrupted the ending of the original.
Although removing Flynn from action will sorta sit weird with me considering SMT protagonists reach uber levels by the end of the game. But then, for the plot! To be honest, instead of them messing around with SMTIV, I would have preferred a brand new SMTV with this kinda story. This one does create a different style of story than the other SMT games I guess.
I still have to achieve the other endings of SMTIV. Going through all of the dungeons is taking more time (and dedication) then I thought. Time to get working I guess, to get those bonuses in the inter-sequel (confusing -_-).
not a huge fan as I am more of a Persona guy, but I love atlus getting more titles with Nintendo and especial the handhelds. Cant wait to hear an announcement and review
Oh, uh, spoilers for anyone who didn't beat SMTIV coughSpoony_Techcough
Definitely looking forward to this. Next year is going to be a stellar one for JRPGs. SMT IV Final, two Dragon Quest games for 3DS, Persona 5, Bravely Second, and so many more!
I am excited. SMT IV was a brilliant game
It's funny, I didn't even realize the map was bad until I beat the game and then went on the internet. Upon replaying the game... the map still isn't that bad... Am i missing something here?
Oh man i'm so hyped for this! And if Flynn talks it's gonna be weird for me at least.
I hope isabeau has a more important role in this one
It's taken me a long time, but I think I'm in the final area of SMT IV. would be cool to continue with the characters in another game with save data intact.
Plot twist
You transfer your uberpowerful Flynn from SMT IV to Final...
and he becomes an uberpowerful boss enemy that royally wipes the floor with your current playable character.
this is gonna be good.shin megami tensei is still so underrated.one of the best rpg series of all time.its mature, complex and epic, every one of them.i would kill for a game like this on wii u.i know we have the crossover coming and persona 5 on playstation but there is something about the main series that i realy like.
also the map is fun guys, getting lost is part of the expierience and it looks just like the old games wich is sweet.its jrpgs dudes,it has to be a struggle at some points
I will be waiting with open arms
