Re: Random: Reddit User Creates The Ultimate 3DS Emulator With A Steam Deck

WhiteUmbrella

@Chocobo_Shepherd There are unofficial docks specifically designed for Steam Deck, but it's also possible to use a standard usb c dock, although there are a confusing array and searching online for which one is best yields conflicting information. I've been waiting patiently for Valve to release their official dock, which has been delayed and still doesn't have a release date as yet.
While I haven't tested a dock, I do have the Viewsonic X1000 ust projector, which is marketed as being compatible as a Switch display without the use of a dock. I used the usb c cable supplied with the projector with my Steam Deck and it works with that too, although the port doesn't provide enough power to charge the Steam Deck while it's played. The screen on the deck is automatically deactivated while an exterior screen is in use (although this can be overridden) and I found it a great experience, paired with a Dualshock 4, but almost any bluetooth controller could be paired, even Switch controllers.

Re: Resident Evils 7, 8, 2, And 3 Are Coming To Switch, But There’s A Catch

WhiteUmbrella

Looking at the Switch port of Sifu, I could see that the graphics are downgraded so it could run, but it also appeared to be running smoothly on Switch and still looked great. I'm not saying it would be easy, but I'm sure a version of RE2 remake could be made for Switch, even if it had to be built especially for the console. As others have already stated, ports of the original trilogy that run natively would be preferable to cloud versions of newer titles, but anyone who wants to play these newer RE games would be better off putting the money towards a Steam Deck than paying for cloud versions that, the moment the servers are taken down, will disappear into thin air.

Re: Valve's Steam Client Beta Adds Support For Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Controllers

@NintendoEternity The Sony PlayStation team working on the pc port of Spiderman made a point of announcing that it's fully compatible with the Steam Deck. Steam Deck is still selling strongly, is backed by a vast library of games and clearly isn't going to "die off". I love Nintendo games, and currently have over 80 boxed Switch titles in my collection, but trust me Steam Deck is comfortable. Just last night I was playing Doom 64 on it, and it runs extremely well. It's a fantastic piece of hardware.

Re: Talking Point: What's The Highlight Of Your Game Collection?

WhiteUmbrella

I have many, many games, but years ago I used to buy memorabilia and not just games. I had a financial problem and had to sell off just about everything except for one treasured item, which I still have. It's a framed print of a variant comic cover that was never used, in pen and watercolour, depicting Albert Wesker. It's signed, not by the artist, but by Richard Waugh. It's likely not worth a huge amount, but the artwork is beautiful and as a Resident Evil fan, I just love it.

Re: Random: These Classical Art Figurines Are Animal Crossing-Level Trolling

WhiteUmbrella

Am I alone in thinking that figurines that graphically depicted female genitalia wouldn't get an article here, and certainly not with images? Some of these figures are of cherubs, which are fundamentally the immature male physique, and their genitalia is on display. Of course, you can justify this as "art", but aren't videogames also art? The naked female body is also art too, then. What are you doing here, NL?Stirring the pot with a double standard?

Re: Suda51 And James Gunn Aren't Involved With The 'Lollipop Chainsaw' Remake

WhiteUmbrella

@Rambler so, the one movie example you're referencing (which I've never heard of) had a delayed release and wasn't altered in any way? This doesn't exactly prove me wrong. Monkey Dust isn't a movie, the original creator is dead, and I watched that series back when it originally aired on BBC Two. Given todays political climate and the content of those sketches, there is no way that series will ever see another release. Come on, Geoff. It's not rocket science.

Re: Ubisoft Closing Online Services For Three Wii U Titles This September

WhiteUmbrella

I've been thinking about revisiting Zombi U, and despite having the xbox version, the Wii U version would still be my choice. I haven't yet managed to weather the final onslaught and see the true ending. I failed it three times. Honestly, I thought the online features had been shut down already, but it will be a shame to see it go. Like another poster, I purchased the console that was packaged with Zombi U. I was so excited for Wii U I preordered it as soon as it was available, and Zombi U was my most anticipated title, being a big survival horror fan. It did not disappoint. It was so novel that the game was set in London.
For those that never played it, it didn't strictly have online play, but an online feature. If you die during play, two things happen. Firstly, the player respawns as another survivor, but with only base items, and with one chance to hunt down the corpse of their previous player character and retrieve the backpack and the items they had at the time of his or her demise. Secondly, the previous player character can respawn in someone elses game, introducing a random chance to encounter a stronger enemy that could yield more resources if defeated. Without this feature, the game will lose something. If memory serves me correctly, while Zombi got ports on PS4 and Xbox, the random interplay between games was dropped. I still love that game, and Wii U has the best version.

Re: Random: Fan Made Resident Evil 4 DEmake Brings Heaps Of Nostalgia

WhiteUmbrella

Ah Biohazard España. I first happened on their channel a year or two ago, when searching for Resident Evil content. Around 90 seconds into viewing their livestream, I was treated to unskippable ads. Thinking that this could potentially turn new viewers away, I posted in the chat and was treated to a tirade of abuse by the channel owner, and I never went back. Great times.

Re: Sega Is Teasing A New Game, Reveal Happening Soon

WhiteUmbrella

The tenuous connections my mind can draw have revealed to me that Capcom are working on a Code: Veronica remake, and Sega are publishing it. Note the close-up eye, reminiscent of the close-up of Claire Redfield's eye in the opening shots of the game. Dolphin sounds are of course a reference to the codename for Gamecube, which is the last platform to get a standalone physical release of the original game. Damn, I'm good

Re: EA's Live Service Battle Royale Game Has Now Generated $2 Billion In Earnings

WhiteUmbrella

"Live service" and "always online": two terms guaranteed to turn me off from a game. Sure, those kinds of games can be amazingly profitable, but when a publisher puts out a game for free and it fails, it has failed spectacularly. The history of games as a service is littered with the corpses of failed rivals, and this will only proliferate, the more publishers try to compete for the same pool of money and time.

Re: Review: Nintendo Switch Sports - Familiar Fun With Friends, But Little More

WhiteUmbrella

Everything about the marketing and presentation of this title suggests to me that Nintendo want to recapture the audience that purchased the Wii. If this is so, I think it's a missed opportunity not to have launched with a new home only Switch console, with the game packed in. This might sell to the existing fanbase, but I'd be surprised if it will sell more consoles as things are.

Re: Review: Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition - A Fair Port For Chrono Trigger's Follow-Up

WhiteUmbrella

@Axecon Playasia is a good choice, if they still have it. I wish I had waited though, because it was only a few days after I had placed my order that I received an email from videogamesplus.ca that they have it up for preorder. The Canadian site does free shipping, but the catch is that you have to spend 80 cad minimum, although if there's something else you want from there, you'll pay less for Chrono Cross overall.
