Re: Capcom Just Started A Countdown Timer, But What's It For?

WhiteUmbrella

@ShadowofTwilight22 the rules making it more difficult for Japanese companies to be acquired by overseas interests are in the process of being relaxed. Also, the rules aren't there to prevent a company from willingly being acquired. If Capcom wants to be acquired and Microsoft want it to happen, it will happen. Furthermore, any acquisition that Microsoft makes overseas wouldn't fall under the jurisdiction of U.S regulation and wouldn't be eligible for consideration regarding Activision Blizzard, just as Japanese regulators aren't involved in regulating the A.B takeover.

Re: The Pokémon Company Sets Its Sights On YouTube Videos Of The Fan-Made 'Pokémon FPS'

@Max_the_German Messi is a real person, which is somewhat different to virtually shooting a fantasy character. Messi would have the right to take a game that revolves around shooting him down, and I wouldn't challenge his right to do that, although arguably just shooting Messi would be more humane than capturing him, keeping him in a cage and forcing him to fight others for your entertainment.

Re: The Pokémon Company Sets Its Sights On YouTube Videos Of The Fan-Made 'Pokémon FPS'

WhiteUmbrella

@Max_the_German The counterpoint to your argument is that it is the fanbase of any game or property that creates this kind of project. Fandom does not end with, nor should it be restricted to, simply consuming a product. Arguably, fan creations and mods further Nintendo's brand and reach with what they do, but this is a relationship that needs to be reciprocal. Without the support of the fanbase, including all the mods, fanart, cosplay and everything in between, the brands, those ips, would actually be less than what they are now.

Re: Dying Light 2 Will Take At Least 500 Hours To "Fully Complete"

@AmplifyMJ I went searching in response to your query, and bought a copy for myself, since I've been waiting for a drop in price too. Surprisingly, I found it had sold out in most places. It's still available from Argos, but that's around £45 with delivery, the little known Zatu Games has it in stock for £40. I purchased it from Amazon though, where a search yielded £30.34 for the US release with free global shipping. I would have liked it a bit cheaper, but since it's sold out in most places I wouldn't bet on that happening, though. I hope this helps.

Re: Scalpers Are Already Reselling Analogue Pocket Systems For Insane Prices Online

WhiteUmbrella

Alternatives to the term "scalper" that might fit are "racketeer" or "black marketeer". Racketeering is a crime, of course, for example a protection racket, where someone sells a solution to a problem that they are creating.
Black marketeering is typically a wartime problem, but exists wherever there is scarcity of a commodity, regardless of what it is.
The effect of this is that, for example when food is scarce, the wealthy can afford to pay more to get more, and then this encourages criminality, prices are driven up and those who would normally be able to feed themselves can no longer afford to do so.
In this case, it's a non-essential product that is being profiteered from, but at the beginning of the pandemic, we should remember there were no shortage of people that wanted to control the supply of sanitary products to line their own pockets. It does need to be stopped. Even with technology, in my opinion, it should still be a crime. It's certainly despicable.

Re: Former Metroid Prime Engineer Admits He Was "Disappointed" With The Wii's Specs

WhiteUmbrella

@NinChocolate I didn't use the term "high end", I said the Wii was weak hardware, and it was, comparatively. Bear in mind that the Wii was and still is to this day, my favourite console of all time.
After previously having no interest in the Wii, I purchased one after a wonderful day spent with my mum and siblings. We had so much fun playing Wii Sports together, so many good memories I still treasure, and I'm sure this software was many buyers first introduction to the hardware. A stroke of genius from Nintendo.
The strong hardware sales unfortunately were not accompanied by a strong software attachment rate, however.

Somehow, over time, the idea of Nintendo releasing hardware of comparable strength with their competitors has been construed as "competing". Fundamentally, they are always competing in some sense, if not in actual power of the hardware. I don't see how strong hardware equates to competition that is any more direct than what Nintendo are doing already. While the notion of a Switch console being on an equal power footing with Sony and Microsoft is moot, I find the suggestion that the Wii may have failed if it had been equal in power to the PS3 and 360 ludicrous. That is like suggesting that their current fanbase would have chosen PlayStation or Xbox over Switch if all Nintendo games ran at 4k 60. That makes no sense. Mario Odyssey or Breath of the Wild would hardly have been diminished by higher resolution and improved frame rates.

Re: Doug Bowser Comments On The Battle Against Joy-Con Drift, Says Nintendo Are Making "Continuous Improvements"

WhiteUmbrella

@mariopartyfan68 Why would I need to "disprove" what you said? It's not possible to prove a negative. Change your account name as much as you want, everyone knows you're the "dust guy". Aside from dust as the cause of Joycon drift being a ludicrous suggestion, if there were any truth to it and you could prove it, Nintendo would lose all the cases against them if you were their defence in court.
Further, as I have already stated to you previously, something not happening to you is not proof that it never happens to anyone. This kind of thinking is clearly fallacious. Following your sense of "logic" (and I use this term very loosely) we can assume that since you typed your reply to me, you haven't ever been murdered, or suffered a fatal accident. In your opinion then, surely these things don't happen, since they haven't happened to you, and if they do happen, it must be a result of the "carelessness" of the victims.
As I stated before, you're spouting rubbish.

Re: Talking Point: Will Nintendo Abandon The Switch Concept For Its Next Console?

WhiteUmbrella

@westman98 Ghost of Tsushima are Spiderman are the only titles that were previously PS4 only that have received PS5 versions. GT7, Spiderman: Miles Morales, God of War: Ragnarok and Horizon: Zero Dawn are cross gen games, which is different from bringing over titkes years after they launched on a previous platform. Tell me, do you seriously see Nintendo launching a next gen Switch, which is backwards compatible and then porting those games? That seems unlikely to me.

Re: Talking Point: Will Nintendo Abandon The Switch Concept For Its Next Console?

WhiteUmbrella

Two things that count against Nintendo's next console being another Switch are firstly, the Wii U. It seemed designed to be an iteration on the Wii and it flopped hard. Also, look at the Switch software line-up. It's full of Wii U ports, in fact the best selling title is a Wii U port. I don't think even Nintendo would dare to release another console in the same form factor that isn't backwards compatible, and yet if it is, they miss the chance to port more games to the successor and get much more of that lovely lovely money. Remember, Nintendo under Furukawa is so money hungry at this point, the company may as well be run by Mr Krabs.
I'm thinking they may well hedge their bets and launch a home console, and keep the Switch as a handheld that docks, but only a fool tries to predict Nintendo and believes they're right.

Re: Looks Like Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl Are Unity Engine Games

WhiteUmbrella

@RupeeClock I did try to search first, I found that yes, the music is missing, the opening of the game and more. I believe the figure was 4.65 gb on the cart with the rest to download. It's difficult to confirm absolutely, but I would rather take a refund since I paid in advance, and it's better than having to return it. I've imported the Asian version of numerous games, sometimes just to have it complete on the cart, but in some cases the game doesn't exist physically outside of Asia or Japan at all. Maybe the Asian of Japanese release will support English, but that would likely push the price up some way. These would have been my first ever mainline Pokemon games, too. I guess it wasn't to be.

Re: Looks Like Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl Are Unity Engine Games

WhiteUmbrella

@RupeeClock Thank you. I've had a pre-order for the double pack since September, but since the carts shamefully contain less than half the game data I have cancelled my order. The same will happen with Shin Megami Tensei 5 if I discover the same trick is being pulled. I don't mind reduced visual fidelity, I will not put up with these rubbish fake physical editions so, thanks again for the heads up.

Re: GTA Trilogy's Physical Edition On Switch Appears To Require A Download

WhiteUmbrella

@Tempestryke I've played the games in the collection on numerous formats, but I searched in response to your information about only the dlc being missing from the Switch cartridge, not to disprove what you were saying, but because if I found your information to be true I would have bought it and thanked you in the comments.
However, the only information I could find contradicts you. I guess it's possible that you have the asian version, and that is complete?
I don't know.

Re: Review: World War Z - A Technically Robust But Repetitive Zombie Hunt Best Enjoyed With Friends

WhiteUmbrella

I enjoyed the movie, and am quite tired of the criticism of movie based on it "deviating from the book". I get the impression that a lot of people that repeat this are just parroting it. The central conceit of the book (while fiction, it's not strictly a novel) is that it's a collection of stories garnered from interviews with survivors of the outbreak and subsequent aftermath. Given that many of the stories related in the book, some just a few pages, would serve as a synopsis for an entire movie on their own, it would be impossible to film one movie that encompasses all of the narratives contained therein.
