We're only a couple of weeks away from the launch of Pokémon Legends: Arceus on Nintendo Switch and The Pokémon Company seems to be going all out to ensure we know all about it ahead of the big day.
We've had a number of different trailers and commercials appear over the last few days, but not come even close to today's gameplay preview video (up above). In the new clip, fans are treated to 13 whole minutes of gameplay, complete with a full narration explaining exactly what's happening on screen.
If you're interested in this very different take on the series but want to learn more before putting in a pre-order, go ahead and get it watched. Oh, and let us know if you're planning on picking up a copy in the comments.
Remember, Pokémon Legends: Arceus arrives on 28th January.

Still like the look of it, and can't wait for the release and some good old Pokemon hunting.
Gameplay looks great imo, hope the story is good to (for a pokemon game)
I don't think I'm going to watch this. I'll just wait to play the game.
See, now that we can see straight gameplay, it looks great! I hope it reviews good!
It's basically the love child of Monster Hunter (missions based), Pokèmon(monster collecting) and BOTW(exploration) and it looks amazing, I wanna play it so bad, the wait is getting unbearable, loving the sleek UI, the player home (hopefully customizable as well) and the addition of sidequests freaking FINALLY!
Well here's our Pokemon Presents @Grumblevolcano Guess they didn't have any new free games to show off.😉
ARK - e-us? All this time I thought it was r-SEE-us. Guess I learned something new in the first 8 seconds. I'm still calling it arCEus, my brain doesn't like hard consonants, but at least I know.
Thought there would be more to it than just running around and catching Pokemon. Don't think I will ever pick this up which is quite sad since I love Pokemon
I CALLED THAT THEY WOULD DO THIS LETS GO! (Pikachu & Eevee)
Not watching it so I can go in blind but still, WOOOOOOOOOO
This looks like it will be the best pokemon game we've had recently, it looked like a very fun gameplay loop to me, and when they showed off the map on the arceus phone, the sub area seemed really big so I can't wait to explore all of hisui.
@rjejr It used to be Ar SEE us but that sounds a little weird in the UK so now it is like this.
This could be the best Pokémon game in a long time... if they gave it more development time, like a year or two. No hate from me, I like the concept and the gameplay looks cool and refreshing, but it just looks so bare-bones and empty in its current state IMO.
Well, it looks lovely to me. Will definitely be my 'first' Pokemon game, no pressure Game Freak...
@NickOfTime90 Thanks. That's weird that they would change how to pronounced a game just for the UK, they could always just do that themselves, but thanks.
I still think the graphics are super bland and muddy, but at least the gameplay looks solid and the performance seems to be consistent. Might check it out
Watched the vid. Looks like Pokemon made with the BotW engine to be a Minster Hunter game. Seems like an interesting combination. Pokemon Snap should have just been a photo mode in this game. I played Snap for about 10 hours, never felt like a $60 game to me. Maybe they'll update this game with a camera later, take a centered photo of every Pokemon to win. I'm not a big fan of on-rails games.
I think my kid pre-ordered this on Amazon the other day while it was on sale for $55. Maybe I'll give it a go in a year when I think they're done. World does look a little sparse, I spent my first 30 hours in BotW just lighting the towers before I even started playing the game.
I do really like the bird, a game called "Breath of the Wild" really needed a means of traveling thru the air. And the water 'mon. If they unlock in order like the Skell in XCX that could add some longevity to this, but more importantly something to do and look forward to doing.
@StarPoint It doesn't look bland to me. It looks like they're aiming for a painterly aesthetic to me.
Actually looks like it could be fun!
@MegaVel91 That what I was saying!
I think its not that its muddy or bad, I think its a stylistic choice! (Not saying it can't have bad textures)
@Snatcher Agreed.
I was already excited but getting straight gameplay puts a lot of my fears to rest.
@rjejr It may be like Noah's Ark, since Arceus is the Pokemon version of God? Also, arc is also used as another word for 'final' if I'm not mistaken which sort of makes sense as well? Honestly though, I keep switching between the two accidentaly. Why has it taken over 10 years for them to finally nail down the pronunciation of this thing.
I like the concept but man....these visual just look so rough. I love the open world concept but...you can tell how basic some of the layout and geometry is unlike how incredibly detailed every square inch of Hyrule was. I know different budgets, dev time, teams etc., but if you're going to go open world then the world needs to at least be almost a character in itself.
Still, I'll probably pick it up and give it a try if it reviews well
I'm sold for this game. It took elements of Pokemon Let's Go and incorporated it into something that makes it so much better. Rather than taking over the traditional combat, it now serves as an option and something that can coexist.
But what really convinced me was the real-time combat system and the fact that boss fights in this game - noble and legendary Pokemon - are going to feel like actual boss fights from an action-adventure game.
The biggest difference to note is that the game looks MUCH more polished. I'm glad they were able to use their time effectively to make the game look good.
BOTW exploration and craft and building. Be something interesting to do. I can see how others related to Monster hunter like as well. How one can think this is rough is making too much comparisons. I rather have a unique looks to each game that make is more appealing.
I also think that they are going for a brushstrokes aesthetic. The characters' hair and clothing kinda clued me in.
PokeMonster Hunter of the Wild Stories: Arceus. Looks good to me.
Nice footage, definitely some new mechanics with crafting and the noble pokemon.
I'm curious what the feel will be like, wandering around in the open areas. Will it be a peaceful feeling, with sometimes a nice surprise of a Pokemon? Will it be boring, with hardly anything interesting to see? Will it be exciting, to sneak around, just in case there is a pokemon around that is easily scared?
There are things about it I don't like, but I'm also undeniably charmed by some of the little details that are sorely lacking from the main games. Luxray's attacking position, Buneary's cute little sitting position when the player is catching the psyduck ... The Pokémon do feel a lot more alive. I'm cautiously optimistic!
@Vortexeo more like the alpha pokemon are influenced by Arceus, since it's the alpha (just behind Bidoof). But if we go by dynamax and totem pokemon, which were influenced by the main antagonist pokemon, yeah, nobel pokemon are likely influenced by Arceus, too.
I do feel better after watching this. Still have some questions and don't think I'll go preorder, but I'm more optimistic about the game. Still want to see some reviews and a bit more about the gameplay.
Being so different from the mainline is a nice change, but I need to know what I'm getting into for $90
Here's a question
For Amazon you get the outfit and Amazon Japan you get outfit with card. Can you load the DLC from Japan version to the NA Amazon version? Does anyone know to this effect if they did this to similar games released in NA and JPN with different DLC will load or not?
Looks great, really a step forward. It was about time though.
It wont suprise me if this game gets a 9.
What's with all less then a year expiration codes????
Please be good…. Please be good…..
Definitely. But I have to put more writing here so I can post that.
A lot of those assets looking quite ropey especially up close..
Finally! Some good footage.
What i love the most is that battle system.
Im not a pokemon fan, but i love RPG games, and this games battle system, i really like what i saw. So yeah, now i am convinced. Day one.
So much I love about this. The blend of battles and go style mechanics, but without menus that are a faff. The big open environments. The way the Pokémon seem to acquire levels without throwing menus in your face.
I think it could face some challenges from the lack of NPC trainer battles and the ability to trade Pokémon (although since online features the concept of trading Pokémon is a weak currency as you can acquire them all damn easily). I also really dislike the way you have to throw those balm bags about - it looks gimmicky and irritating rather than innovative than challenging.
But my net sentiment here is definitely positive and I really hope they pull some decent ideas from this into the next mainline. Sword and Shield were mediocre games for me, so I fully expect this will be better.
I've gone from a day-one purchase to very on the fence since learning there's no held items or abilities in this game. That suggests to me an extremely de-emphasized battle system and a small pokedex - think of all the Pokemon like Shedinja and Slaking that would make no sense without their abilities.
I think of this as a more exploratory Pokemon Snap, rather than something like a main series game.
I know they're completely different games but with horizon fw coming out so close to this & both being big AAA releases can't help but compare the two
it looks good, but the nobles bit looks a bit forced. Other than that this game is shaping up to be really awesome!
@Tott 90? Wdym?
I was wondering but now I'm sure it will be great
@Fizza "Why has it taken over 10 years for them to finally nail down the pronunciation of this thing."
10 years? I thought the entire point of this game was it was new Pokemon? 😂
They should do this more, show gameplay previews with a narrator like most big companies do, that's simply the perfect way to introduce concepts. This the gameplay we all wanted to see! Let's go about the details:
Items in the wild are actually shown and modeled
Camera seems to allow more freedom than SwSh
Throw both Pokéballs AND items! Like a Safari Zone
Soundtrack is calmer and more BoTW-like, excluding battles
It seems now the trainer can also "level up" (more like rank up) with research points
Popping is just.... ugh, please don't look too far on minute 1:58
Remember the open world-like map of the Obsidian Fieldlands seen before which looked like just a portion of the area? It's seems it's the entire area... hopefully there is more than just that
Missions and Requests (finally on a Pokemon game!): the BotW inspiration is high there
There's actual effort on the requests, rather than just being dialog
Uh oh, exp Candies are back, what could this mean for the game's difficulty?
Alpha Pokémon seem to be REALLY strong, not just in power, but strategy in fact!
Customization is just like SwSh, except the clothes are more traditional
Noble Pokémon are a big mystery, and seem to carry out Arceus' ring on their introduction logos for some reason...
The way some moves work have changed, like Stealth Rock.
That was a lot, a lot of BoTW mentions too. I guess the more inspired it is, the better right? This gameplay clarifies many doubts I had in terms of gameplay, but I still have some questions like how big and deep the areas are. The bigger ones though, are related to the Pokémon themselves. I hope some of them recieve stronger Mega-like forms.
@nowthisisepic
Canadian price of $80, plus the taxes in my province comes to about $90.
@Vortexeo If I look at the Pokemon battles part of the video, you can see 6 pokeballs in the bottom.
So it seems to me you have the usual 6 pokemon team?
@Vortexeo But isn't that just for transport and doing specific gathering tasks?
Your actual Pokemon Team is still 6 pokemon.
I agree. It all looks a bit confusing at the moment.
Seems like I'll get Amazon and if the other's arrive I will send it back. Don't need more then 3 versions.
@Vortexeo I guess we just have to see when we get the game in our hands. Maybe those three slots are just for quick actions and can easily be swapped at any time with different Pokemon.
