Update [Tue 16th Nov, 2021 00:55 GMT]: Nintendo has now shared the same overview trailer on its English YouTube channels. Check it out above.
Original article [Fri 5th Nov, 2021 02:45 GMT]: It's a rather exciting month for the Nintendo Switch, with a lot of huge releases on the way. We've just shared our review of Shin Megami Tensei V (it's excellent, by the way), but if you're looking for even more RPG action later this month, you might want to keep an eye out for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

These remakes based on the classic Nintendo DS titles from 2006/07 are returning on November 19th, and ahead of the big release Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have been pumping out new hype trailers. In the latest upload on Nintendo's channel is a lengthy 5-minute overview of the anticipated release.
The only catch is, it's in Japanese. Nintendo will likely localise this video in time, but if you're eager to see even more footage of the remakes, this is well worth checking out right now. It shows off the game's environments, battles, new features and more.
In addition to this, Nintendo has also released two 30-second Japanese commercials - showcasing everything on offer:
Are you excited about the return of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl? Did you play the originals during the DS generation, or will this be your first time experiencing these titles? Leave a comment down below.

Looks like an HD remaster of a 3DS game to me.
Here come the comments about saying how it looks like a 3DS game and also bashing on the game's graphics, chibi style, etc.
Looks like the cathcable Pokemons was just from Gen 1 - 4.
The only thing worse than the ugly chibi models is seeing them up-close. Ironically, this was more or less how I imagined the DS games would have looked like prior to their reveal, as it was well-established that the DS could outpace the N64 graphically, and not how I imagined a remake on a home console would look like 14 years after the fact. Perhaps the risk of long loading times were an impediment at the time (and possibly cartridge storage). Or maybe it's just plain old laziness, as we're seeing here anyway.
With that said, I'm looking forward to playing through Gen IV again as the originals are intolerably sluggish, and this will likely make for a more enjoyable experience overall (shortcomings noted), but this looks like a low-budget Pokémon wannabe, not a main series entry in one of the world's biggest media franchises. Here's hoping that we will be pleasantly surprised though.
@anoyonmus Here comes the comments getting aggravated over those said comments.
It’s a shame that it’ll be painfully easy due to mandatory EXP Share, Cynthia’s the best champion solely due to her being actually difficult.
This is my first Pokémon game that I will actually might consider buying and getting. If it reviews well, of course.
I never played a Pokémon game before so I would like to try it
For Arceus' sake, just tell us if we have the Battle Frontier again Nintendo, PLEASE.
Not knowing if platinum content is in these remakes is killing me, specially cause if it was it probably would’ve been revealed by now. Its gonna be disappointing when its confirmed it doesn’t have it
@Moonlessky maybe it could be released as an expansion or something?
@Max_the_German Not really. It's pixely enough to be a 3DS game.
@nessisonett "Painfully"? Easy doesn't always equal bad. Besides, I don't want to have to constantly go back and forth until I win. I want to have fun, not be frustrated.
@mr-duster Who wants a game that plays itself? RPGs should require actual thought.
This game still looks horrid. Can't believe it's $60
@nessisonett Except that it doesn't "play itself". And the Pokemon games are designed to be less complex than your typical RPG. It's not about "actual thought".
@Sora181 It does not look "horrid".
@nessisonett
"Who wants a game that plays itself?"
Me. 😀
Try Miitopia.
@Sora181
Pokemon BDSP look great so far.
@mr-duster Just putting my comment in quotation marks and saying it’s wrong is utterly pointless. This is pointless.
@nessisonett I never said your comment was wrong. Don't put words in my mouth.
@mr-duster Lol, it definitely does. It looks like a upscaled 3DS game. We've seen what the switch can do, and this looks like it's not even scratching the surface. Combine that with the fact that we can't even turn off EXP Share, it looks like we'll have another braindead, easy game
@Anti-Matter To you maybe. To me it looks cheap.
@Sora181 No, it does not. If it did look like an uspcaled 3DS game, the graphics would still be much more pixely, because that's how the 3DS is programmed. And it isn't "brain dead" because of the EXP share. Doesn't it make things less tedious?
@Sora181
At least the game have 3D models and not pixelate 2D graphic.
Also, Permanent EXP share is a welcome feature for casual gamer like me.
No more tedious grindy.
Yay !
EXP for ALL !
@Anti-Matter Exactly. That's the thing I disliked about the older Pokemon games. Being forced to do endless grinding to get the perfect team.
The EXP share was one of the best things about the later games, and no amount of whining is about to change my mind.
I’m sure I’ll eventually buy this, but as of right now, it’s the first mainline Pokémon entry I’m skipping since Alpha/Omega remakes.
@mr-duster You know you can upscale textures, right? And being able to quickly level everyone in your party at once takes away strategy from Pokemon's gameplay, which is already simple. I wouldn't be complaining about that if they, y'know made it a toggle. Less features is never a good thing. It's weird too because it was a toggle in previous games. Why force it on players now?
@Sora181 Even upscaled, they still wouldn't look as smooth. I've seen what it looks like.
And nothing is being forced on. It shouldn't even feel that way. How does it take away from any strategy? It didn't do that for me. It just made getting through battles and such far less head-scratching.
@Sora181
Because not everyone like to play games in hardcore level.
Newcomer players will not touching the games if the games are too hard to be played.
About Permanent EXP Share, it was a decision from the developer to make the game approachable for newcomer despite it lacks of option to turn off. There is nothing we can do but accept the fact.
You will not happy for playing too hard games, right ?
Don't care what anyone says, these look awesome and I look forward to playing it as soon as I'm done with SMT V.
@Anti-Matter I like hard games, so that's not a good reason. I just want to be able to use my brain for something and not mash A the entire time. That's boring. And I'm not saying easy games can't be fun either, just do enough to get me to pay attention to what I'm doing
@Sora181
You want to play hardcore ?
Beat the Gym leaders / Final Boss with level 1 Pokemons that you have.
@mr-duster Can it be turned off? No? Then it's being forced. And it does take away the strategy of team comp and knowing when to switch your mons at the proper time. If everything is overleveled, you're just mashing the A button at each encounter.
@Anti-Matter That's literally not possible. I think we're done here
@Sora181 No. Not being able to turn it off doesn't equal being forced. And your team isn't going to be "overleveled" because they'll all be the same level, and won't even be that high up until later in the game.
I wouldn't be mashing the A button because that's not how the game works. You don't just mash one button over and over again. You have to wait a while and press a button once or twice at a time.
I'd rather be bored than enraged.
It looks so vibrant! I wonder how it will look on the OLED.
@mr-duster
Not being able to turn it off literally equals being forced to use it...
@Tott No, it doesn't. It's just there. Nobody is screaming at you to use it.
@mr-duster If I wanted to use it, I *have * to use it because it can't be turned off. That's forced. But I'm done here
90% of the comments are @Sora181 @mr-duster and @Anti-Matter shouting at eachother like everything is black and white. (Pun intended)
C'mon guys, it's ok to like different things. I'm not a huge fan fan of the "chibi" art style but it does have it's appeal. Sometimes simplicity is better. I do like how GameFreak (and IILCA) has been diversifying their game engines as of late. (It's better than the optemization issues and creative setbacks that resulted come from of endless asset flipping)
As long as these remakes are about as challenging and cintent-filled as the original I'll be content. There are ways to counter-balance a manditory exp share, which other JRPGs have already shown. I don't expect it to be as hard as other JRPGs but I do want enough of a challenge to be fun. As a kid, I would have killed for a mandotory exp share, trying to manage ny party was a nightmare. Long story short, it's too early to say how much of an effect the EXP share will have, we only have tge gane Freak games to go off of, which may seem like a bad sign but SwSh did nerf it significantly.
I hope there will be platnium content, but even more than that I want there to be new surprises to keep me on my toes. Even if there aren't any I know I can enjoy this game for what it is. Nostolgia alone makes these games worth $60 to me.
Different people value different things in different ways, who's to say if an idea is good or bad for someone else? If it's not worth $60 to you, I respect that. These two thingsvare true, it's ok to expect more from pokemon games and it's ok to appreciate the magic despite their flaws.
Its amusing to read the comments here lmao. Clearly ppl seems to misunderstand the target audience of pokemon game. Or maybe the old pokemon game fans have outgrown the game while the game stays the same. Pokemon game target kids and will continue to do so for foreseeable future. The notion of wanting harder game or modern graphics aren't wrong but ppl should not expect too much of a company thts been doing the same thing forever lest they want to be disappointed.
I am looking forward to these Remakes
@Dilly-Mick Well said.
For what it's worth, I don't think these contain Platinum content. At least, not yet. Now we know that the Pokemon series is happy to do paid DLC, I guess we'll find out.
Wouldn't at all be surprised to learn that they know people would pay half the price of the game again to get the Battle Frontier.
@anoyonmus Almost like different people have different opinions, right?
But apparently criticizing something is not to your liking, so we shouldn't do it.
@Sora181 Again, they aren't screaming at you to do it.
@Dilly-Mick We weren't "shouting" at each other, but yes. I completely agree.
Granted I haven't played Pokémon since Gen 5/Unova and I haven't read much about the Sinnoh remakes (mostly because I'm unsure if I'll get one), but what's the deal with the EXP Share debacle? I thought the function of all Pokémon getting EXP points was from the EXP All, which only appeared on Gen 1.
Did I miss something
@mr-duster to be fair the ExP share is a game mechanic that can't be turned off. I believe what @Sora181 means is that it's "forced" the same way you're "forced" to battle trainers.
Sure you can do some fanangling to circumvent it, to some degree, but the only way to avoid it entirely is to simply not play the game.
@HammerGalladeBro expshare was changed in gen 6 it's a key item that has the exp-all effect. You used to be able to toggle it on and off but now it's just burnt into the exp system.
@YinYangYoshi In the overview trailer, check the world map at 0:48, and you'll clearly see the Battle Tower is there. No Frontier.
@Dilly-Mick It isn't even about "force" anyway. It's only a simple part of the gameplay.
Gonna skip this one personally, but it does have a charm to it. Gen 4 never really stood out to me in terms of the designs but it still looks fun. I'm just waiting for Legends Arceus at this point
Why is it every time a pokemon news article is posted, the comment section is guaranteed to be hell. We get it, you don't like the art style, we don't need to hear it anytime, and besides if you turned the original sprites in the original diamond and pearl, they were chibi
I went ahead and purchased an OG copy of Pearl for myself this weekend. It was less then half the price and the experience share isn't broken.
Crying about Exp Share is still the most pitiful thing you can cry about for Pokemon of all things. Going back to the "good old days" of leveling one at a time doesn't make the game any deeper. All you accomplished is you just made grinding longer for yourself. Not to mention you can still clear Pokemon games with a brainless solo level 100 pokemon since Gen 1 so no idea why people here going "I want to use my brain" from anti Exp share people lol. If you wanted "hard" games then you wouldn't be playing Pokemon to begin with. These games are literally targeted for kids/young teenagers to clear. Sorry this isn't Dark Souls.
@nessisonett Wait you can't turn it off? SH** I forgot.
These games look good.
I want to play them!
@Slinkoy1 We get it, your tired of hearing about people complaining about it, we don't need to hear it every time.
Its a comment section thats the whole point?
@Arawn93 Is it so hard to give people the option to turn it off? They did it once. Is GF that incompetent to do it again? Looking at their past works, I bet they are.
@MsJubilee Doesn't S&S allow you to do that?
@nessisonett What?? Thats news to me. Everyone whos played the originals is an adult now. There is no point in making the remakes easier when theyre targetted towards pokemon veterans...
So after reading these comments, I feel like I’m the only person that’s been keeping up with leaks. Or perhaps people are just avoiding posting spoilers about them since they haven’t released? I’m not sure.
@Justaguest lmao. I guarantee you 98% of the people buying this game isn’t “Pokémon veterans”. Didn’t the failure of Dexit teach you this already? There are PLENTY of younger people for one that never played Gen IV before [Sword/Shield might have been their first mainline Pokémon game too] that came which Gen IV came out initially in 2006 [time flies by huh?] that will make up the bulk of the sales.
Looks amazing, already pre ordered
Yikes some of these comments. The apologists are coming out in full force as usual. Can't let anyone have a differing opinion or express legitimate criticism about Pokemon simply because it's Pokemon. Nope, we don't do that around here. Definitely not.
@NinjaGuy69 Go provide a counter-argument then.
@Nintendoh I mean a lot of what's needed to be said has already been mentioned by others above regarding the mandatory Exp. Share, the uninspired graphical direction, etc. I'd only add on the 3GB Day 1 update that patches in a bunch of content that was randomly left out of the base game. The obvious lack of passion for these games and the fanbase itself is evident through the choices that were made in this game's development. At this point, these games are pretty much just a lazy, soulless product that GameFreak, Creatures Inc., The Pokemon Company and Nintendo use as a holiday title to make money. Regardless, I'd be willing to bet these games still sell over 10 million units and nothing changes. I guess asking consumers to think critically about the products they choose to spend money on is a pointless effort.
Is it possible for Cynthia to be both hot AND cute? Because they absolutely succeeded here. I must say, I like the chibi art direction they've taken, which will certainly be a controversial statement.
@YinYangYoshi game was dumped about a week ago we know already that we dont
A remake with cut content...no thanks.
I like the graphic style, don't like the exp share, and will pick up Diamond version as I had Pearl when they came out originally
@Maximumbeans Idk, just something in my gut, is telling me there going to make it dlc but I could and probably wrong.
@Snatcher They might well do. If they've been listening whatsoever then they should know it's what a lot of people would like to see.
I’m looking forward to this, and ordered from the UK just so I receive the Steelbook.
Oh Chimchar how I have missed you!
@Arawn93
Couldn't they just give the option to turn it off if people want?
I don't really care either way personally but having options that don't impact either player seems reasonable to me plus they have offered being able to do that before.
I’m probably in the minority here, but…Imactuallylookingforwardtothisgame? Phew, there, I said it.
Honestly, the art style is kinda cute and has definitely grown on me since the reveal. D/P were the first Pokemon games I followed pre-release and was really hyped about, and I remember having a blast playing Pearl all summer long when I was 11, so I’ve been waiting for this gen to be remade for a long time. Besides, I’m a casual Pokemon player, and an adult one with little time or patience for grinding at that. I find the ‘obligated’ EXP share a godsend, couldn’t care less about the Battle Frontier (I found it really boring in both Platinum and Emerald, TBH), and just want to relive some awesome childhood memories, have a chill time with the story, build a fun team, complete my dex, and maybe hatch/hunt for a few shinies. A sizeable chunk of the fanbase might dislike the game, but I feel like it’s going to be right up my alley.
At the end of the day, each to their own. People who enjoy this game will buy it, people who don’t like the look of it won’t, and good ol’ Ninty will still rake in the cash and sell millions of copies because it’s Pokemon and kids (and some grown-ups) just want to catch and battle with some monsters.
@Anti-Matter well no cr@p lol considering it's that generation
@Arawn93 I am sure there is more than 2% of people who has grown with the series and play it for its nostalgia factor. The games are as easy as you make them to be and are flexible in difficulty (different team builds).I do admit that I might have exaggerated with the veteran comment, but there will be a lot of people who have played the originals years ago wanting to try these versions as well. People are growing with the company.
All of you trying to berate the Chibi characters, just admit you don't know what cute things look like when its in front of you.
@VanishStampede I know what cute is, and it definitely isn't lifeless, plastic looking chibi models. Seriously, the player character eyes are devoid of all signs of life. Link's Awakening remake is chibi done right.
@Max_the_German I mean...technically you aren't far off considering it's a remaster of a DS game lol
@Theober555 Hot take, but I disagree here. Those black hole eyes haunt my dreams sometimes.
@Theober555 It ain't funko pop lifeless. Link's awakening has more Funko pop Chibi feels in that aspect. Just because Link is a circle instead of a box does not make him less Plasticine.
