Nintendo has shared an updated list of Europe's most-downloaded Switch eShop games, revealing which titles were the most popular during July 2021.
It's perhaps no surprise to see that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD has gone straight to number one in its debut month; Nintendo's latest big-name title managed to beat July's other top release, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, to clinch that top spot.
Elsewhere, Minecraft continues to perform extremely well in the downloads chart, while June's big releases – Game Builder Garage and Mario Golf – have both fallen down a few spots.
You can check out the full list below. It's based on the number of Nintendo eShop downloads (so no physical sales) in European territories during the whole month:
- The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD
- Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin
- Minecraft
- Among Us
- Game Builder Garage
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Mario Golf: Super Rush
- Stardew Valley
- The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles
- Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2
- Pokémon Sword
- Super Mario Party
- Miitopia
Did you download any of these titles on Switch last month? Any surprises in the top 15? Tell us below.

Skyward Sword sales is the reason Nintendo keeps pushing out remasters for full price.
Skyward Sword is worth every penny IMO, I'm sad that I'm close to the end because it's been some of the best gaming I've had in quite a while.
@Mr-Fuggles777 talking about that. Skyward Sword had one of the best remasters in the Zelda remaster section, so it’s well deserved.
On another topic, it’s a shame Neo The World Ends With You didn’t make the chart
I'd be interested in knowing Among Us' sales for Switch (which I can't seem to find), it consistently breaks into the top half of this chart.
I was kind of hoping Great Ace Attorney was going to be higher on the list, but I suppose it didn't have quite as much time on the eShop as other games on the list.
@SpaceboyScreams I can’t stand it in handheld mode. Not sure how they could have improved it.
It's disappointing to not see Neo: The World Ends With You in the charts. I'm absolutely loving the game, it's probably the best I've played since Dragon Quest XI (Original PC release, not XI S on Switch). I'm hoping it does well enough to warrant another sequel, but I'm barely seeing any recognition for it and it doesn't seem to be doing all that great sales-wise.
Minecraft on 3rd place... Can Switch owners stop buying this game? Sigh
@fafonio when you compare it with the Mass Effect Legendary Edition (from one of the most greediest publishers around) you see how overpriced SS is.
Unfortunately as Switch owners we are used to games being overpriced so many people don't question it and just cough up the cash.
@Mr-Fuggles777 I won’t say you’re wrong … but since SS was in a real need for a remaster and another chance to shine into old and new audiences, you could see that good work was done to the game. So I don’t mind paying full price, I mean, I did play the game 10 years ago. But again, you’re right, I’m used to pay full price for Nintendo games (since I pay for things I love) and since I couldn’t care less about Mass Effect, I wouldn’t pay full price for the Legendary Edition.
Maybe I’m not alone in that marketing sector and that’s why the difference in price exists.
Zelda has more brand value than ME.
Nice to to see Monster Hunter Stories 2 do well.
@VIIIAxel think the reason we ain’t seeing NEO is because I believe that came out towards the end of July didn’t it?
@Outerdragon It came out at the end of the month, but it also came out the same day as The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, which is #9 on this list. If TGAA managed to land in the top 10, I don't think that the specific release date was that much of an issue.
@Mr-Fuggles777 and we LOOOOVE IT. Bring on wind waker and twilight princess
More remasters in coming then 😩
Also aslong as mario kart 8 is there we won't see number 9 for many years to come
so happy for Monster Hunter Stories 2 to be at the number 2 spot
@VIIIAxel oh fair enough shame it hasn’t done better.
"The success of __(Remaster/Remake/Port)__ is the reason Nintendo keeps releasing remasters/remakes/ports for full price" is starting to get old lol
@westman98 I bought Skyward Sword HD full price digital. No complaints, never had a Wii, I've already got more than my money's worth out of it - I've clocked up more hours in the game than Smash, Splatoon 2 and Mario Odyssey...so yeah I reckon it was worth every penny.
Skyward Sword HD has been worth the money for me and I'm really enjoying it so far Glad so many others are taking interest in this Zelda game as it has some brilliant dungeons and possibly the best final boss fight of the series!
First off, loving Skyward Sword and happy to see it there.
Second, just looking for clarification here and forgive my ignorance: does eshop downloads mean new purchases? Or could this include reinstalls, as those require downloading from the eshop as well?
Skyward Sword fixed pretty much all of my complaints I had when I played it on Wii. It's amazing to play with a controller and in handheld.
@Tott I hadn’t thought of that. It does say downloads, but I assume they really mean purchased from the eShop.
Edit - I found this on another site:
“This list is based on sales data from the European Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch. It includes all paid purchases of games made on Nintendo eShop or via the Nintendo website, excluding purchases made during discount periods, Game Voucher redemptions and free downloads.”
@Vyacheslav333, yea I agree. It seems like every time someone purchases a Switch they automatically purchase Minecraft and SMK8D.
@Tandy255
Thanks for finding that and clarifying!
This makes it more impressive in my eyes, seeing some of these old(er) games continuing to be in the tops list. I'd be somewhat interested to see sales volumes with these too. As being top 10 in a slow week (or top 10 when only 1-3 really flew off the electronic shelves) could be deceiving. But either way, impressive. I'm just starting to nitpick now.
