Poor Alex, nobody gifted him a present this Christmas. Taking matters into his owns hands, our lovely video producer decided to order his own Switch-related gift online and even went to the trouble of wrapping it himself.
What is it, you ask? You should watch the above video to find out. Else, if you really can't spare five minutes, we'll be nice enough to tell you it's a third-party Hycarus controller designed for the Nintendo Switch. For unknown reasons, it closely resembles the PlayStation DualShock 4 gamepad. We don't want to spoil the video for you, but it's really bad. This controller comes with poor button alignment, cheap plastic casing and RGB lights that make it look like a Christmas tree. Probably the best thing about it is the USB cable.
Alex has used a lot of control pads over the years and assures us this one is awful. It's also the worst one he's used with his Nintendo Switch - so yeah, avoid this at all costs. We hope no one here scored one of these in their stockings this Christmas.
Have you tried out this controller? Have you used any other third-party Switch controllers? Tell us below.

Now this is interesting. We always see a "best controller" piece but getting a "worst controller" review is a funny change
Ungrateful. Another thankless first world story.
@Retupmocnin It is all just for fun. He ordered the controller for himself.
@Retupmocnin Ungrateful for the gift to himself that wasn't even a gift to begin with?
Is this some new level of sarcasm that kids are into these days, or did you not watch the video?
@DTFaux I feel as though it could conceivably be sarcasm. Sarcasm has always read poorly in text. Who knows!
The mystery vent is just further proof that this a repurposed PS4 controller, as on the Dualshock 4 that there is a port for plugging in certain accessories, such as a mini keyboard for messaging and the cheap multiplayer headset that comes with the system.
@Donald_M The vent is clearly DS4's speaker.
So this is the controller you give to someone you don’t like.
They could probably market it that way:
“Give this to your rival and gain the upper hand as they are blinded by its dazzling lights and damage their hands on its badly made buttons.”
I'd personally like a Nintendo controller built like the PS4 controller. Just not a 3rd party one, he he.
Or an Xbox One with it's shiny light, a big shining Mario face light button!
@ZeldaToThePast you can get an 8bitdo adapter to wirelessly connect a ds4. It retains motion control, can't remember if it keeps vibration.
I'm guessing if he ever gets a ps4, he won't like the controller.
I wasn't prepared to endure an 18 second ad to watch whatever this was.
It looks pretty nice, I have seen worse ones.
Guess where I am hiding my PS4 controller (hint: it's somewhere on me).
So that's a maybe then? Happy crimbo Alex.
@Graham182 Yeah I know, I have one. I just meant something a little more official. And the rumble does work for it.
This controller actually has decent reviews on Amazon, 4.2/5 stars from 31 reviews. I've never got on well with 3rd party controllers, well except for SF-30 Pro. My mate has a cheap wired Xbox One controller and it's the worst I've ever felt. It creaks, buttons stick and the analogue stick has an enormous dead zone.
@RootsGenoa Fair enough, I wasn't looking too closely the first time through.
@Retupmocnin
It’s a present he ordered for himself ya goof.
Is anyone else getting tired of these half arsed efforts for vids. I don’t feel there’s much merit to them anymore and I get bored of watching Alex fumble his way through yet another one. At one point Alex was informative now..... “Does a PS4 controller have a speaker?”
I mean come on..... Sorry looks like it’s my turn to be grinch this year.
@arekdougy Of course it's sarcasm. And a joke is not funny if explained, so I'd say it works perfectly in text.
Would hate to have that. Glad I have a Pro Controller.
Way too much clickbait
Never seen the point in light up controllers , what a waste of battery lol
@Retupmocnin either your sarcasm levels are genuinely bad or you just don't get it.
@IHateTombs how many games even use it? I think in all the time I've owned my PS4, I only recall one game ever using it. Kinda like using that touchpad.
I don't blame someone not knowing it exists. I probably would have forgotten it if it wasn't brought up
