Re: Review: Turtle Beach Rematch Wireless Controller For Switch 2 - A Solid, Dependable Pad (If Rumble Isn't A Must)

The_Nintendo_Expat

I recently bought a Pro 3 to sit aside my Ultimate 2, and the pairing is really doing it for me! those two controllers really cover the bases, from SNES to PSX, to DC, to XBOX.

along with the 8bitdo A64 controller and M30 "saturn" pad, and the Gbros gamecube controller adapter, I'm incredibly well set for any kind of game i could want to play, and I feel zero desire for any other controller ive seen.

(well, until the new Steam Controller comes out 😅)

FWIW I bought every one of these controllers on sale for less than 50, some for less than 30.

This one seems a little pricey for me given the features, as mentioned in the review. ✌️ thanks for all your hard work!

EDIT - upon reflection, this controller appears overpriced for what it is, and only "budget" in the sense that Nintendo's "c button" controller is outrageously expensive.

Re: PSA: Watch The First Super Mario Movie For Free, Before Galaxy Arrives (US)

@Joekun

When they made Toy Story, they had no guarantees that it would be a hit. they made the best, funniest, most heartwarming and original film they possibly could, and clearly had their hearts in it.

The Mario Movie took absolutely ZERO risk, and by going broad, they all but guaranteed that lots of people would recognize the low quality, but they knew lots more would either be dragged to the theatre by their children, or praise the film simply for being a Mario movie, and take what they are given, as a Nintendo fan do.

Art is risk, by definition. On the grand scale slop sells better than art, always has and always will. Anyone arguing that something is artistically valid because it made money has their priorities twisted, in my opinion.

Nintendo is making a lot of money so they don't care if we think their work has suffered creatively. which, fine. but I don't play "profit," I play excellent videogames. ✌️ same goes for films.

Re: Talking Point: How The Heck Will MGS4 On Switch Handle Its PlayStation References?

The_Nintendo_Expat

"Nintendo itself probably won't be too keen on having explicit references to a rival company mentioned in the collection."

we take it for granted at this point, to say the least, but this whole thing is completely insane in my opinion.

Otoh I did enjoy the Nintendo elements injected into Twin Snakes at the toke, and of they do something relatively high-effort like that again it would be hard to stay mad at the "censorship." ✌️

EDIT - at the TIME* lol. Little Freudian slip there, for your amusement. 😂👍

"this is exactly why even Game-Key Cards are better than exclusively digital including code in box..."

hey Johnny 👋🙂

why is it better than code in a box? (genuinely asking, i would never buy a code in box game or a GKC personally ✌️)

how long do you personally believe GKC downloads will be supported? longer than digital redownloads?

Personally, I think they could adopt reselling codes like Steam does. besides being physical in the sense they are made of plastic, do GKCs offer anything beyond that?

EDIT - i was mistaken, Steam does not offer reselling USED codes, nor do they officially support reselling them. too good to be true! 😅

"All of those games you listed were on weaker hardware and probably took less manpower and money to develop for then the Switch 2"

i dont know what this excuse does for you in regards to enjoying their contemporary output, but it does nothing for me.

OTOH, I've been arguing that hardware constraints = better games since at least the GBA era so you won't hear any argument from me on the facts. 👍

Re: Review: Mario Tennis Fever (Switch 2) - Slim For Singles, But An Addictive Core Gives It Online Legs

The_Nintendo_Expat

"The console games never had any real single player content. It was always single player on the handheld and multiplayer on console. The Switch / Switch 2 versions are basically still "console" games even though the consoles are also handhelds."

even if the logic of the third sentence made sense, we are about 9 years out from the distinction between "handheld" and "console" having any relevance at all. 👍

"Honestly I would love to see a purely single player focussed Tennis game. But I don't think there is enough market for. (read: casual players don't care)"

I would love it, too! give me single player games with local 2-4p co op all day long.

IMO Nintendo has been absolutely rotting from the inside since they subtly shifted their focus from "young people who deeply care about videogames" to "aging 'casual gamers' and their apparently ambitionless children."

I get that it's how theyve made their fortune, but it's perverse to believe that monetary gain is evidence itself of artistic growth or creative evolution. often the opposite is true. (afterall, nobody argues facebook as a platform or google as a search engine are better now than when they started.)

I play games maybe 1-5 hrs a week, and I avoid the newer masochistic "git gud" style games, so I'm far from hardcore. but I do wish "casual" people who dont desire any challenge at all would go back to watching movies and taking long baths or whatever they were doing before Switch came out 😂✌️

Re: Rayman Really Is Back, According To The Series Creator

The_Nintendo_Expat

this will not look as good as the original, and the people who still deeply care about this game are not worried about making it easier, id wager. this game blew my mind when I was 10 years old and the difficulty was fine.

not to mention, you'll probably have to create an "ubisoft account" to even play it 🙄

Re: Talking Point: Age Of Imprisonment Could Inspire Next Zelda Game, Say Devs, But What Does That Mean?

The_Nintendo_Expat

@Debo626

"Despite what the comments might have some believe, not all long-term fans of the series want them to keep remaking the same game year after year like Call of Duty."

literally the only era that feels like that is the present one, with three "warriors" games and two "botw" games.

they can do anything they want with the story and the setting (and they always used to do a good job imo) but if there are no dungeons, no little guy in a green hat, and no magical/musical instrument, that's not really a Zelda game in my personal opinion.

beyond that, heck yeah mix it up! I dont want anything like a retread, either, and I dont think I've really seen that opinion expressed here by the other "long term" fans, personally. ✌️

Re: Review: Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties (Switch 2) - Maybe It's Time To Take A Break

The_Nintendo_Expat

@Solid_Python

I think the author addresses this in the conclusion.

"Unfortunately, it seems Kiwami 3 will forever be associated with the recasting of one of its main antagonists, a controversy that undeniably affected my personal enjoyment of the game. If that doesn't bother you, and if an overabundance of side content appeals, you could probably add a point to the scoreline."

✌️

Re: Talking Point: Age Of Imprisonment Could Inspire Next Zelda Game, Say Devs, But What Does That Mean?

The_Nintendo_Expat

the header Think Legend of Zelda: The Video Game Movie and the following frame from the teaser have nothing to do with the rest of the article and seem very shoehorned in. it's honestly very odd.

the opening line of the very next paragraph is
"It’s true, Breath of the Wild changed history," and then we go on from there and never end up thinking or talking about LOZ: the movie for the entire article.

Not that I'm complaining lol I just thought maybe an editor would want to take another look. ✌️

EDIT - coming back to it, this whole piece is just kind of mush, tbh. Not sure what we are really talking about, here.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (7th February)

The_Nintendo_Expat

Symphony of the Night lol

EDIT - took me about 2h30m to get to 50% completion, which is lightning fast compared to when i was 12, but I'm not rushing at all.

i just worked my way through the colosseum, which is a notable difficulty spike but also I've recently got the double jump and some decent gear, so things are speeding up, not slowing down.

its just a smooth, perfectly designed experience, with very little unwanted backtracking (so far.) 👍 i think this is my 3rd or 4th playthrough, and I'm being completely honest when I say I'm enjoying it even more than I did before. its a breathtaking game, perfectly tuned, and pairs so nicely with the excellent baroque acid jazz heavy metal soundtrack 🤌

possibly my favorite video game of all time.
