fair enough ✌️ when I think about how many games were included in compilations around the ps2 era, and how polished and fleshed out a lot of those releases were (and obv physical, and with a manual,) it's really hard for me to see 35 for 3 games as a good deal.
it's a real old man problem, and really has little to do with how anyone else should spend their money. But I can't shake Taito Legends 1 + 2 😂✌️
i have enjoyed plenty of shooters! i just think we've kinda gotten to a point where for so many people (and i think especially men, and especially young men) think of videogames as a gun simulator, or more broadly, a murder/war simulator. at the very least, it feels like most games are about ending the life of your "enemy."
and, i just want to be a voice telling whoever wants to hear it, that it's OK to get some gaming satisfaction from somewhere else, mentally, thematically, aesthetically, whatever you want to call it. ✌️ its not about shame, its about balance. or something.
thanks for replying! ive heard some VERY encouraging things about arc raiders from certain internet people, so i definitely want to see it for myself. and BG3 is still on my list to eventually get to, but im a bit afraid i dont have the attention span for the long haul 😬
"I think yet again ninty are hitting that sales brick wall."
I think it's too early to say (i was REALLY optimistic during the launch window of both Dreamcast and somewhat even Wii U, as were others 😂) but I agree that theres a pattern and i think that's inarguable.
frankly Nintendo does better when they have to lean into their canonical fanbase and dont get all the extra cash from fairweathers and johnny come latelys. I think they call this kind of reasoning "gatekeeping" now, I like to think we are all entitled to our opinions and perspectives. ✌️❤️
make love, not war ✌️ we need a "yeah, guns and war actually suck" moment, again.
it's one thing to come to terms personally with the inevitability of war, of death, but it's another to just bathe in it, right? do you need to fight and kill to enjoy playing a game? 🤔
if you rarely play games where you dont shoot guns, or kill, maybe examine that. apologies for the random soapbox, I'm just planting seeds. 👍
the Steamdeck is a GREAT DEAL for people who know how to use it, but its definitely not for the typical Nintendo fan (or child) who expects to play bumper bowling for the entire experience, top to bottom.
I love my steamdeck but a non gaming 35 y.o mom (or any busy parent, gamin or non ✌️) with a 10 y.o. is better served by the Nintendo console, by far. and it's VERY clear to me now that they have steered entirely to that sector and they are likely never coming back.

I don't think theyve been capable of actually challenging themselves for a while, now. they didnt even make the last (arguably best) Fzero game, and they havent made a compelling dungeon in a Zelda game in recent memory (to put it lightly.) I think their faith in themselves is shot, and they are paralyzed by the fear of turning in a bad big money profit report, or whatever.

"Was excited to try the Switch remake of the lauded Metroid Prime and found it pretty dull."
i am a huge fan of the original Prime on gamecube, and when I tried the switch remake i found it to be very dull as well. they turned it from a 3d metroidvania/puzzle platformer into a half assed FPS action game (like the latter entries in the series, frankly,) and the shiny "modern" graphics really didnt capture my heart the way the truly inspired, incredible for their day original visuals and art did.
anyway, my 2c. I would humbly recommend trying the Cube original if you ever get a chance! ✌️

the martyrdom and reflexive rejection of opposing views by the people supposedly enjoying this game! as though people are only sharing their opinions to sully your enjoyment, and you are obligated to read and correct their commentary, in turn 😂👍
yes, but the collection of "stories" in a publication is known as a "narrative." there's one proper noun across the top of the page, afterall, and it's neither of these authors'. ✌️
neither perspective is specifically wrong but its jarring for the reader to see a supposed 9/10 game be called barely good enough on the same page a bit later. just my 2 cents.

this is an excellent idea. that way id have known better than to get my hopes up, and maybe id be cautiously optimistic/curious about this new direction, rather than feeling like they are dancing on my childhood's grave. ✌️

good point that I've made in the past. at this point, i feel like i can tell the "real" 9s and 10s on this site from the "inertial hype" ones ✌️
(though i doubt this site will ever admit the disappointment so directly, frankly.)
"People misread the intent of this space – it exists as a palate cleanser to blast through on the fun-to-control Vi-O-La bike between tense sessions of dungeon-crawling in tight corridors."

3) what difference does "intent" make to the end user's experience, in a game like this? is the desert less boring if i can appreciate that my palate is supposedly being cleansed?
4) cleansed of what? linear corridors with little risk of getting lost? when i needed a break from prime 1, i popped in some Melee or something 🥳👍
