Re: Preview: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Is Great, But I Want To Kill One Of Its Characters

The_Nintendo_Expat

I'm gonna be real honest and say the only metroid games I've actually fallen in love with are og, super, and Prime 1, so the odds of this one really pleasing my tastes were pretty slim.

(OTOH i genuinely believe those are the best in the series, so I dont think it's unreasonable that I should want a new game that's more like those. ✌️ i give up hoping to see my taste reflected in nintendo's contemporary works again. ¡Viva la emulación!)

Re: Nintendo Had No "Intention To Hinder Or Invalidate" Third-Party Docks For Switch 2

The_Nintendo_Expat

@Dm9982

you know what? you've unlocked some third party repressed traumatic experiences for me 😂

I got tekken 2 and realized that if I didn't have a memory card, i couldnt retain the new fighters i was unlocking. so, I got my mom to take me to software etc... and i picked out a PERFORMANCE memory card! after all, it has SIXTEEN X the storage capacity of the more expensive sony one! ...

and yes, of course i wore out every third party controller i ever owned back in those days, while my first party controllers are mostly all still working to this day ✊

i remember all those "cooling" fan accessories, and i almost bought one for my glitching model 1 PSX, but it died first 😆 (i forget, was the PlayStation console first party? lol jk)

so, i take your point! I think in my mind the risks became so internalized and obvious that hearing you spell it out sounded odd to me, or over the top. ✌️ if that makes sense.

OTOH, I'll leave you with this:

If Nintendo made a TV and said "you should only play Switch 2 on this TV," there would be people on here saying "well thats your fault for not using a first party TV!!"💀✌️

@Dm9982

"At least these probs can be fixed with updates and such….. back then it was HIGHLY recommended you stick with first party accessories due to compatibility issues as well as quality issues."

i grew up in the NES era. I always considered first party to be the benchmark, and generally my preference, ive used 3rd party stuff this whole time and never had a problem, and never really heard of them before the switch era either besides the boilerplate "warnings."

have you?

Re: Red Dead Redemption Has Been Rated For The Switch 2

The_Nintendo_Expat

its funny how the "if you were interested in X, youd have already bought a Y" people randomly show up or don't for these announcements.

personally im bored with even hearing about these same two games over and over, but im not going to try to yuck anyone's yum if playing it again on the new thing appeals to them.

Re: Random: Steam's Brand New Game Console Sure Looks Awfully Familiar

The_Nintendo_Expat

relax everyone, its just an excuse to talk about the big news from a Nintendo perspective. of course its a stretch to say anything with orthogonal faces and corners is basically a gamecube 😂

i missed steam machine the first time and i always wanted one, so im interested in this device but since i just got a steamdeck i cant justify even thinking about it.

but, i wont miss it again! if these like like they'll be phasing out of production again you can bet ill grab one.

and, that controller has serious potential, if its close to as good feeling and well featured as the deck controls. 👍

Re: Feature: Now Samus Is Doing It - What Is It About The 'Akira Slide' That's So Great?

The_Nintendo_Expat

"But the slide is important, because Kaneda is establishing himself in the movie; he is the one to beat, he is the 'hero', he is the character we’ll see the world through."

Respectfully, I disagree with this analysis. IMO the slide is part of a red herring, the narrative tricking the audience into believing Kaneda is the big hero in the making when actually he is just a tough kid, blindsided, perplexed, and humbled by the happenings of the film as the rest of us.

anyway that's my take. it's been a while though 😅

The_Nintendo_Expat

@Dr_Corndog

"Yeah, kind of feels like they wasted their opportunity to make a new F-Zero, eh?"

for me, it's the final insult. id be surprised if a single other racing game from nintendo comes out this entire generation, now that we've had two already.

fzero 4 should have been the blazing fast, rock solid HD showcase launch game to prove the switch 2 thesis, silence the haters, and demonstrate that Nintendo hadn't yet completely lost touch.

Re: Zelda: A Link To The Past And Chrono Trigger Are "Ripe For Remakes", Says Analytics Firm

The_Nintendo_Expat

"(LttP's) dungeon and world design can be considered outdated, and the narrative is relatively linear by today’s standards [and] Nintendo would supposedly be wise to approach it in a similar way to the Switch remake of Link's Awakening."

surely they dont mean the remake of links awakening that did not to my knowledge alter the dungeon and world design or narrative 🤔

Re: Terminator 2D: No Fate Has Been Delayed Again On Switch

The_Nintendo_Expat

@Spider-Kev

"Doesn't it need a weird update, per game, to dock it?"

this has not been the case for me, at all 👍 i bought two different kinds of docks from two manufacturers, and so far they "just work."

"I have a few questions about it, don't wanna get in trouble for turning this into a chatroom..."

PM'd.

Re: Terminator 2D: No Fate Has Been Delayed Again On Switch

The_Nintendo_Expat

@Spider-Kev

i recently got a steamdeck and I'm just so much happier with it on every level 😄 i shouldve realized it sooner, but my latent Nintendo fandom was still too strong.

in particular, the ergonomics, build quality, and flexibility are just light years ahead. the eshop is so much better it's not even funny, from the filtering, the promotions, the prices, and the actual performance of the app. the 16:10 screen is perfect for pc gaming and applications, and a perfect compromise for emulation and media.

not to mention, its a full on PC, all i had to do was hook it up to a mouse + keyb, and get a little usbc hub for a monitor. and, I didnt have a PC for many years, so thats huge for me. 👍

i realized over the switch generation that I'm just not that into what Nintendo is doing anymore, which is sad for me, but it is what it is! onward and upward.✌️❤️

Re: Nintendo States Its Intention To Acquire More Development Teams

The_Nintendo_Expat

"It outright states that its plan includes "initiatives such as acquiring development companies to make them subsidiaries and augmenting our development facilities,"

"This might, on the surface at least, go against Nintendo's statement last year in which it said it would rather "organically expand the organisation" over the acquisition of developers."

i dont see the conflict, both say they plan to acquire developers.

unless we are hung up on the word "organically," which is actually meaningless corpo fluff language imo. 👍

[EDIT - I think I was reading it wrong. I took the word "over" to mean "by way of," as opposed to "in lieu of." ✌️ still, there's nothing "organic" about anything Nintendo does, regardless of how they hire talent or whatever it is, and I'll continue taking anything they "say" with a grain of salt.]

Re: Nintendo Wins Lawsuit Against 'Pirate' Streamer Who Taunted Company Online

The_Nintendo_Expat

@metaphysician

i agree with everything you said, because true. ✌️

abstractly, however i do indeed "truly want Nintendo (and everyone else) to (eventually) lose their copyrights," and yes there would be some doozies falling off the back end in a theoretical disney-less alternate timeline. 👍

PS - ive never downloaded a rom from a game made in this millennium... but OTOH ive never felt inspired to breathlessly "justify" my piracy either, much to your point 😆👍

Re: Review: Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection (Switch 2) - A Killer Kompilation, But Online Is A Mess At Launch

The_Nintendo_Expat

@LinktotheFuture

"Ultimate" means "final" and "best imaginable."

my point is, if it has glaring omissions (4/gold,) it's not either of those things because eventually another Kollection might come out that actually has all the games and that will be the "ultimate" by definition.

this is certainly a celebration and a Kollection but it's not the "ultimate" one. 👍✌️

Re: Review: Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection (Switch 2) - A Killer Kompilation, But Online Is A Mess At Launch

The_Nintendo_Expat

"It’s difficult to lament missing releases here when the existing lineup is so darn impressive."

hold my kontroller:

Mortal Kombat 4/Gold is the only remaining MK game that interests me in the slightest, unfortunately.

and, this cant possibly be the "ultimate" Kompilation without it, by definition. really odd they didnt include it, or couldnt for some reason. 🤔

Re: Retro Nintendo Games Are Returning To Animal Crossing (Sort Of)

The_Nintendo_Expat

@HammerGalladeBro

happy to clear that up 👍 i had to read through twice, myself, to get what was being said.

"how many people play Animal Crossing without NSO other than kids?"

i can see the logic of the question, but the idea of authorizing the use each time before playing effectively a throw away bonus mini game within the game (and that part of the game being "broken" without the service) is just beyond the pale for me.

(not to mention, for the people that already have NSO, its kind of a lame bonus anyway.)

i mean how greedy can you get? it's like they are afraid of good will from their own fans.

Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Soundtrack Is Scoring A Gorgeous Vinyl Release Next Year

The_Nintendo_Expat

@BrewsterTea

good to know there are others! i didn't mention, I also feel as though i focus and play better with the music off, much of the time. I first noticed this while playing Wipeout on PSX c.1995, on the harder tracks. (even though I adored that OST and it was half the reason i wanted that game 😍)

Nintendo is the all time champion of "play it 'our way,' or dont play it at all."

i hung with them a v long time when the games were so damn good (c.1989-2016,) but these days I really appreciate when i can set the sound and control mappings to my liking for most games. (yada yada Steam Deck.)
