Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Soundtrack Is Scoring A Gorgeous Vinyl Release Next Year

The_Nintendo_Expat

@N00BiSH

sound is half the reason i play videogames, depending on the game of course. 👍

also i turn the music off often, if its not particularly great. i really appreciate games that still sound "right" with just ambience/fx. and, in those cases i often find the game to be more immersive than with the tunes.

(huntdown is a good example of ambience done well. without the music, you can clearly hear the NPCs/enemies chatting or doing whatever they are doing before you are noticed, and the "air is filled" with sounds of the city, etc. its cool.)

@MeloMan

im being a little cute, because ive been on this train... forever 😆 i was working on my ZSNES backlog in the PSX days, and ive always been more into 100%ing my games while i wait to find a used copy of whatever's new, later.

(always with exceptions, like a new zelda or mario game, but now i wait on those, too, after the last few have been kinda... meh.)

but yeah the update, DLC, eventual bundle sale cycle has just reinforced this behavior 😊✌️

I f*cking love lonely mountain! (thats what i call it 😆)

have you tried Decenders? i went into it expecting not much, and ended up sinking some time into it. satisfying game to play, and similar in the sense that its you vs the mountain/trail. i recommend turning the music off 😎✌️
something about driving a gasoline engine around the wilderness just doesnt hit the same, but if this is fun, ill be down. 👍

"The literal construction of your sentence as written indicates that anyone who is a passionate gamer is opposed to game key cards. That is how the sentence reads Implementing proper English grammar."

sorry that's wrong. all his words are saying is that the people complaining about game key cards are passionate gaming fans, and youve inserted yourself into it.

"It's been met with considerably negative reception from passionate gaming fans."

if youre gonna pedant, be right. it's like, the only rule 👍

asked and answered! thanks, all. ✌️

FWIW i found the source of my misinformation:

"This game offers the first real open-world experience in the Pokémon series. Technically a spin-off from the mainline games, Pokémon Legends: Arceus takes place in a 'Ye Olde' version of the Gen 4 region..."

Re: Pokémon Legends: Z-A Scored US' Biggest Physical Game Launch Since TOTK

The_Nintendo_Expat

"In Europe, the game's racked up the smallest retail launch for a mainline game since Let's Go! Pikachu and Let's Go! Eevee"

dumb question, are we calling this a mainline pokemon game?

I'm pretty certain that Arceus was received as a non mainline game, in a new "Legends" sub series. 🤔

(FWIW im not sure if i consider remakes (the "Let's go!" games mentioned) as "mainline entries" in a given series, either. seems like we are stretching the definition into meaninglessness, as we often do around here)

Re: Street Fighter 6 McDonald's EX Colours Now Available, Here's Every Free Code

The_Nintendo_Expat

McDonald's has made their billions (trillions?) selling us chemically engineered poison that has made us fat, unhealthy, and unhappy. their litter clogs our streets just as their food clogs our arteries. their marketing brainwashes children in a way that takes a lifetime to undo, if it ever happens. their food is designed to be as addictive and as profit friendly as modern science will allow, with not a second thought given to your well being, or the planet's.

McDonald's deserves none of your time as a gamer, and shame on anyone for giving them free (or paid) exposure on their platform.

Corporatism = Fascism. Let's try to get this garbage out of our bodies, out of our minds, and out of our lives. ✊

Thank you ✌️

@Suketoudara

"The Switch version does support USB mouse. And USB keyboard!"

thanks! i had a feeling.

i find all this "mouse mode" stuff odd when you could always use a mouse with switch, and many people probably already had the hardware laying around (or could acquire it for 20 bucks) and never bothered.

not to mention, their competitor Steam has obv always had mouse compatibility. I tried "couch mouse" mode with a tower PC hooked up to my TV probably 15 years ago, almost immediately said "nope!" and never looked back 😂

Re: Factorio - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Announced, Free Upgrade For Existing Owners

The_Nintendo_Expat

im always curious if games that get "mouse mode support" already supported a USB mouse on switch, and if not, why not?

(also curious if "mouse mode support" necessarily means USB mouse support, or if these games might only be playable with one side talkin joycon. 🤔)

(further curious if some people who are interested in "mouse mode" on switch 2 ever bothered to try a mouse with switch 1)

@Damo

You are right, "everyday someone is born who hasn't seen the Flintstones," as they say. ✌️

OTOH, I'm grumpy about it. 😮‍💨

(if I reviewed games which i dont and probably wont, i might implement something like "MSRP: $X, game length: ~X hrs, replayability X/10 pts" as a side bar.)

anyway! thanks for the review, i was/am pleased to see your name attached 😊✌️

PS - now that im a steam deck owner (😌) i'm extremely interested to see reviews for steam games from that perspective. this seems like a good one for example to review this way on Time Extension. its a thought, idk. 😊

Re: Review: Night Striker Gear (Switch) - The Shining Apex Of The 'Super Scaler' Concept

The_Nintendo_Expat

why are NintendoLife reviews so often written as though the author assumes the audience is skeptical (or completely ignorant) of the given genre?

this review comes off oddly apologetic about the nature of arcade games. specifically, that they are relatively short, and they end.

"The challenge won't last forever"

"Might be too shallow for some"

both of these cons could be applied to every game ever in existence, no matter how deep (or... 'infinite?' )

Re: Anniversary: SNES Action RPG 'Terranigma' Is 30 Years Old Today, And It's Still A 10/10 In Our Book

The_Nintendo_Expat

"...loads have never played it. Even folks who've been around since back in the day. It's just one of those games that ended up being unavailable a lot of players whom we reckon [...] might just earn themselves a brand new SNES favourite."

I completely resemble this remark! Gaia was one of the first "long" games I ever beat as a kid, and remains one of my favorite games ever. the sequels of course never came out in the US, so they've been on sort of semi permanent backlog status for at least 30 years (💀)

...yet where am I in the poll answers? 😮‍💨

(I didn't/couldn't vote.)

Re: Mailbox: Metroid Excitement Levels, Game Clubs, "The Galaxy Strategy" - Nintendo Life Letters

The_Nintendo_Expat

@Anti-Matter

we are on the same page, to a certain degree. ive always preferred my violence cartoony and my sexual themes implicit, as opposed to explicit.

i also find the gameplay to be a little better in games that arent leaning on good ol "sex and violence" to appeal to their audience. Street Fighter has always clearly been better than Mortal Kombat, as an easy example. ✌️

my very favorite games are ones that look like cartoons but have a deeper emotional impact (like earthbound) or are genuinely challenging (like megaman.)

anyway, cool to see your letter published on here! take care my friend.

Anti, if it weren't for your posting on this site, I wouldn't even be aware that there were adult fans of these games out there at all. So, I'm glad you are here 😊✌️ im open to (very nearly) ALL kinds of games, so I dont write off kids' games just because I'm not a kid. 👍

are you a fan of any other kinds of games? in part, im just curious if there is any overlap of our tastes. I like what some of my friends call "baby games" (in a "good natured ribbing" kind of way) but from their perspective that's Tomba, Pikmin, Earthbound, et al.
