edit - the first two games actually but im assuming its true for the whole series. though to me, a mouse is a videogame party killer. my opinion.

when you put it that way, i can better understand. i deeply miss a time in gaming that we can never get back, and i think my feelings about "day one patches" are just kind of an expression of that. specifically, im glad that the games from my childhood are exactly the same as the day they were released, and i wouldn't change a thing about them!

ive felt the soul just drained from the entire artform ever since we started hooking our consoles up to broadband, honestly. this is not an argument for or against anything, just how I honestly feel! ✌️

let me assure you that i am indeed jaded, but about Nintendo specifically 😅 i don't like how things have been going, and switch 2 has made all of it worse. I don't recognize my favorite games company anymore and it is making me sad. being a "Nintendo fan" became part of my identity for better or worse when i was 4 years old, and that has never changed, but I used to feel much better about it, it's true.

I am, however, about to get a Steamdeck for my birthday! after over two decades of owning essentially nothing but Nintendo consoles, I'm hoping it will give me some perspective, and maybe even some zeal and pep when it comes to gaming in general!

well, my Wii is going strong, disc drive and all, but i would say that the Wii is both more robust and more reparable than the switch. 👍 i will definitely fix my Wii of the disc drive does fail, im skeptical that my switch even could be repaired if and when it fails one day.

incidentally, i fully expect my wii + games to outlive my switch + games by a healthy margin.

it does make sense. it's a competitive marketplace, so competitive that they are competing against dozens or even hundreds of games that I've already purchased, or planned to purchase before I ever heard about this release. Now, they will compete with all the other games coming out while I wait and see how the DLC/sales go.

if a company's strategy is, "make as good of a game as possible for a fair price," I buy it if I'm interested.

if the company's strategy is," release the game piecemeal, for maximum profit," my strategy then changes to "wait until the DLC is over and get everything at once on sale, if ever."

it's really simple. no animosity, no hard feelings (exception: when they announce paid DLC ahead of the game's initial release.)

In a sense, I do "ignore it," as you suggest 👍

I'm truly becoming an old timer, as DLC "roadmaps" have become a bridge too far. utterly demotivating for me.

a stunning new 120 fps FZero would be a system seller, and far more exciting I think than what we've gotten. 👍 (and I'm also very much a lifelong DK and Mario Kart fan, they are 3 equal series overall IMO.)

OTOH I don't think Nintendo can actually do it so I've given up hope I guess you could say.

yeah, I haven't seen whatever it is that will make me say "okay, yeah that's worth the money," whether that's a "killer app," a price cut, or a new iteration. ✌️

OTOH all it needed to be was a new Nintendo console with a really great new Mario, Zelda, or Fzero and I'd have bought one ASAP.

btw it was T2 and Prime 4, but sadly P4 fell off after that latest trailer with the motorcycle and the c.2015 looking FPS style gameplay. no thanks!

you are right on the facts! I'm talking about the way the console has been presented, and the way publishers are releasing games for it, with a few exceptions. like I said, it's not a pro console, but it is "like" one.

to me, so far it reminds me the most of Gameboy Color, oddly. not a "pro" console, not quite a successor. ✌️
