ps - the drip feed approach might work on me... if i hadn't already been listening to Nintendo music with abandon, through unofficial channels. for decades. 👍
"It's funny how Nintendo fans used to say they didn't care about hardware power/tech, but now a lot of them love it.😐 I also thought a lot of fans hated DF whenever they criticized anything Nintendo related?🤔"
"Nintendo fans" are not a monolith. unless you have examples of dozens of particular hypocrites, then you are just noticing that different Nintendo fans have different preferences and desires. ✌️
(i mention it because i see a lot of this fallacy happening on this site. 👍)
yeah, that's kinda what im getting at. lumping it in with the list of "cost cutting measures" was kind of a rhetorical shortcut, and created a mistruth, imo. 👍
i wish the "one console" games would still say e.g. "Switch 2 100%" so that I could play along at home without having to know exactly what console to which each game is exclusive. 👍
i feel as though some kind of clever shading or filtering could composite the stereo images into one, so we could play these games on a tv like a person, no peripheral.
people complained about "waggle" controls in the Wii days, but turns out that was some quality waggle! we haven't waggled with such rock solid calibration since.
I dont usually make a big deal about my own birthday, but I'm turning 40, and it feels like kind of my last chance to do so, in a way. at least til im 50 😬😅
thanks for the very sensible answer! you seem to know what you are talking about 👍
when you put it that way, i can better understand. i deeply miss a time in gaming that we can never get back, and i think my feelings about "day one patches" are just kind of an expression of that. specifically, im glad that the games from my childhood are exactly the same as the day they were released, and i wouldn't change a thing about them!
ive felt the soul just drained from the entire artform ever since we started hooking our consoles up to broadband, honestly. this is not an argument for or against anything, just how I honestly feel! ✌️
anyhoo thanks for taking the time to reply, i really appreciate it. 👍
let me assure you that i am indeed jaded, but about Nintendo specifically 😅 i don't like how things have been going, and switch 2 has made all of it worse. I don't recognize my favorite games company anymore and it is making me sad. being a "Nintendo fan" became part of my identity for better or worse when i was 4 years old, and that has never changed, but I used to feel much better about it, it's true.
I am, however, about to get a Steamdeck for my birthday! after over two decades of owning essentially nothing but Nintendo consoles, I'm hoping it will give me some perspective, and maybe even some zeal and pep when it comes to gaming in general!
thanks for your candor, I've been chatting with you for years at this point and I always always read your comments as i value your perspective. ✌️
"I don't remember the same outrage over Metroid Prime Remastered or TTYD remake costing £50 (if we're going by Nintendo's eshop prices)."
those games are not nearly as popular as mainline Mario games, so there would naturally be less "outrage." that's my shot at an explanation, anyway, take it as you will 👍
"Is that without repairs?"
well, my Wii is going strong, disc drive and all, but i would say that the Wii is both more robust and more reparable than the switch. 👍 i will definitely fix my Wii of the disc drive does fail, im skeptical that my switch even could be repaired if and when it fails one day.
it does make sense. it's a competitive marketplace, so competitive that they are competing against dozens or even hundreds of games that I've already purchased, or planned to purchase before I ever heard about this release. Now, they will compete with all the other games coming out while I wait and see how the DLC/sales go.
in the infamous words of a young Tom Delonge, "I'm older than you, so I've got time."
they don't earn my money automatically just for working hard, though I have no doubt that they did. 👍
"Before anyone whines about the price consider this, buying both originally would've cost you over 120 dollars total. At 70 now it's like buying only one of the games back in the day."
"If you can't handle the price get out of gaming while you can. It's only gonna get worse every generation."
if a company's strategy is, "make as good of a game as possible for a fair price," I buy it if I'm interested.
if the company's strategy is," release the game piecemeal, for maximum profit," my strategy then changes to "wait until the DLC is over and get everything at once on sale, if ever."
it's really simple. no animosity, no hard feelings (exception: when they announce paid DLC ahead of the game's initial release.)
a stunning new 120 fps FZero would be a system seller, and far more exciting I think than what we've gotten. 👍 (and I'm also very much a lifelong DK and Mario Kart fan, they are 3 equal series overall IMO.)
OTOH I don't think Nintendo can actually do it so I've given up hope I guess you could say.
yeah, I haven't seen whatever it is that will make me say "okay, yeah that's worth the money," whether that's a "killer app," a price cut, or a new iteration. ✌️
OTOH all it needed to be was a new Nintendo console with a really great new Mario, Zelda, or Fzero and I'd have bought one ASAP.
man, will the upsides of the Tariffs just never end?
this is the only big game on my radar personally, so as long as it ends up good, I'll be getting it regardless! on my new steam deck no less, which I'm getting next month for my 40th birthday 😎
btw it was T2 and Prime 4, but sadly P4 fell off after that latest trailer with the motorcycle and the c.2015 looking FPS style gameplay. no thanks!
you are right on the facts! I'm talking about the way the console has been presented, and the way publishers are releasing games for it, with a few exceptions. like I said, it's not a pro console, but it is "like" one.
to me, so far it reminds me the most of Gameboy Color, oddly. not a "pro" console, not quite a successor. ✌️

because work out the kinks before you release it, that's why. 👍
"well obviously it is justified, why would you know or see why?"
what do you know that i don't?
"why would you know or be privy to the reason?"
they could tell us instead of being cryptically vague, the way most other companies seem to manage, sometimes in very granular detail.
btw i don't consider your comment rude at all ✌️✌️
Re: Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 Day One Update Out Now, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
was there any rush or pressure to put this out? i don't really see how a day 1 patch is justified, here.
