LOL I never said I was above complaining 😅✌️

BTW I second your request for more filters, specifically I would like to be able to filter out "Rumour" but generally filtering by tag and keyword would be great 👍

-#Rumour -"complain" -"complaint" -"complainer" 😂✌️

EDIT - would I really though? I like to see the breadth of the discourse. I try not to even ignore ppl unless they just really aren't being intellectually honest or respectful. ✌️

"Yeah I’m going off the actual launches."

as a sort of historian/spectator, I can respect that, but the regional launch is a lot more relevant to my actual/personal experience, while the "actual" launch is more theoretical/academic.

I didn't realize the SNES had a weaker launch in EU! kinda silly since it was later, right? there must be a story there.

I don't care about graphics, only optimization and design. Nintendo could come out with a new 16 bit console, and as long as the games were fun and ran smoothly, I'd support the hell out of it.

(In fact id squeal with delight and do cartwheels but that's beside my point 😂✌️)

here's hoping for some cool things in store for switch 2! (and a price drop maybe? incidentally the concept of a budget friendly "consolized" switch 2 seems even more logical in the S2 era than it did before. at say 300 USD I'd definitely buy it.)

"SNES and N64 were great in terms of quality (Mario World, F-Zero, Mario 64, Pilotwings 64) but nobody would get away with launching with just two games now..."

in my country at least, the SNES launched with 5 games: SMW, F zero, Pilotwings, Gradius 3, and SimCity. This is the best launch lineup of Nintendo's history, and in the running for best ever (Dreamcast probably has it beat.)

other than that detail, I actually agree with you largely. I just happen to think A) that every other console was more interesting at a hardware level than Switch 2, which really helped the imagination to get excited about what was to come on that console, and B) that Switch 2 is a gigantic leap forward [I meant upward -ed.] in price compared to its predecessor, and 450.00 even in 2025 dollars (which are not really that much more available than <2020 dollars despite rising inflation) puts it into a "this better be something special" category, rather than a "well it's the new Nintendo, of course I'm buying it" kind of category.

OTOH if it had a new stellar mainline Mario game, a new Pilotwings game, a new f zero, a city builder developed and published by Nintendo, and (as long as we are being whimsical) an HD port of Gradius V, we all know that poll would be chock full of 9s and 10s. And, I'd have bought one day 1.

"I think there’s a lot of people failing to remember what most system launches are like"

almost every Nintendo launch has had at least one game that has been sufficiently exciting to justify purchase, hence I've bought (or asked for birthday/Xmas) almost every Nintendo system at launch since SNES until now.

I'm not saying they have all been incredible lineups but having lived through the SNES and Dreamcast launches for example I'm aware of how good it CAN be and I just can't unlearn it.

Re: Ubisoft Employee Explains Why Star Wars Outlaws Is A Game-Key Card

The_Nintendo_Expat

the "console games on a handheld" dream is dead, because what constitutes a "console like experience" is a moving target, a contemporary handheld (or "hybrid") will never catch up, and devs will never spend the money to make a separate "portable" version of their games again.

now, we have nightmares like GKKs as a fresh hell that I don't think any of us saw coming. and the worst of them (Ubisoft) is already making excuses why they "had to" go the high profit route (😢.) for you and me, the gamers. they had no choice.

can you imagine if MGS for GBC was a note for note recreation, running at 5fps, with GBCs resolution and color depth? of course they made a special new game for that console. and it was fantastic, and no one complained that it wasn't MGS for PSX.

Re: The Switch eShop And Steam Are Buckling Under The Weight Of Silksong

The_Nintendo_Expat

@IronMan30

"Why mention store fronts for other platforms on a Nintendo-centric site?"

because it is pertinent to the nature of the problem.

it'd be like the newspaper reporting that a house is on fire when the entire city is on fire. it's not "wrong" in the sense that a house is on fire, but it is "misleading" in the sense that the story is larger than that and there's a journalistic obligation not to mislead your audience.

OTOH there have been cases like heavy GTA 6 coverage on here where I commented that they went way beyond the scope of this site. ✌️ if the problem were ONLY with steam and not the eShop, and they were still reporting it here, I would completely agree with you.

I agree, by all accounts it seems to be a straight sequel to a very good if pretty ordinary (imo) metroidvania. personally I bought HK but I didn't love anything about it and put it down not long after.

I like the genre fine but it's hard to imagine a metroidvania that I'd be champing at the bit to play, to be honest.

Re: Final Fantasy Tactics' Devs Had To Lean On Fans To Recover Original Source Code

The_Nintendo_Expat

they seriously didn't simply make a copy of the complete source code?

why is it that only "pirates" and "hackers" actually give a ***** about any of this?

PS - I'm still thinking about the fact that they finished their game without bothering to save the source code, then proceeded to modify the source code many times without making backup copies, working copies, etc etc. these were not unheard of concepts, and they had tons of work in this data, lots of money on the line, and were a company that had already been around for at least two or three generations.

"People who vote on nostalgia shouldn't have their vote counted, it's about the best looking cover, not your feelings."

I was getting ready to heartily rebuke this, but then I realized I totally agree 😂 I try to put my personal nostalgia on the shelf and focus on which artwork I think is the best, using other parameters.

the only proactive way I can imagine to correct this (at least hopefully/maybe) is to expand the poll into two questions:

which artwork (if any) gives you the most nostalgic feelings?

which artwork do you think is the best or most effective? (comment why below!)

or similar. curious to hear what you think. ✌️

EDIT - one of the answers to the first question would be "I have no nostalgic feelings for this game"

@8thDoctor

thanks! I can't say that is communicated well in the composition. I can think of three ways off the top of my head that it could have possibly been. ✌️ not trying to be overly critical, but considering the heaps of praise this series continuously gets, I don't feel too awful about it 😂👍

EDIT - I can see now that it actually IS attached to what i gather is a "needle weapon," being held at an odd angle by what I can assume is an arm. Perhaps they just threw it and it kind of went all over and now it has just been caught. 👍

as a frame of animation it would probably work better in context, I'll assume that's what this is. ✌️

anyway thanks for indulging your local Pedant.

What have you got for us, Johnson?

Well sir, I've drawn every character exploding from the exact center of the page, detached from the context of their surroundings.

Honestly, Johnson, every Japanese game has had the exact same idea for years...

Johnson you sonofabitch... you've done it again! PRINT!
