Re: Action-RPG Crystar, Once A PS4 Console-Exclusive, Is Coming To Switch

TheWingedAvenger

Don't you guys just love how every girl in a Japanese videogame nowadays has white hair, a super-high-pitched voice and enormous buggy eyes? It's a great artistic choice which truly speaks to my soul. These are wonderfully talented artists. I used to like games such as Zelda and Dragon Quest, but as soon as I saw the girls with the buggy eyes I knew I'd found the meaning of life.

Re: Mini Review: Beast Breaker - A 'Pinball RPG' With Surprising Depth

TheWingedAvenger

@BloodNinja
I also thought there weren't enough screenshots, since Mitch mentioned pinball but there's nothing in the screenshots that even remotely resembles it. I then watched gameplay online and realized that the actual problem is that Mitch doesn't seem to know what pinball is. Just pretend he never called the game "one part pinball game". He should have rather said billiards. If you're looking for a sort of "pinball RPG", as the article's title suggests, the only games I know of are Yoku's Island Express on the Switch and Pinball Quest on the NES.

Re: Classic Shooter Gleylancer Arrives On Switch Soon

TheWingedAvenger

The game is Grey Lancer, not Gley Lancer. Japanese people have difficulty distinguishing between the English sounds "L" and "R", but when they bring the game to the west we can just go ahead and spell the name properly instead of pretending to be Japanese. Similarly, the Growlanser series is actually Glow Lancer.

Re: Konami Competition Tasks Indie Devs With Reviving Its Classic IP

TheWingedAvenger

Indie devs have already made great sequels to Konami games - they just use different names.

Joymasher is the new Konami. They made Blazing Chrome which is one of the best Contra games ever made. They also made Odallus, a great Castlevania game. On a side note, they made a strider clone called Oniken which is much better than Strider.

Also, the three Bloodstained games on the Switch are really Castlevania games with a different name.

Of course, it's good that Konami is trying to get some good games made.

Re: Square Enix Unveils Dungeon Encounters, Directed By Hiroyuki Ito

TheWingedAvenger

Okey, this is a clinical case now. Square has zero imagination nowadays, and it shows in the titles of its latest games. Project Triangle Strategy??? Dungeon Encounters???

Imagine if the makers of Sonic the Hedgehog had titled their game "Speed Platforming". Or if the makers of Contra had named their game "Running and Shooting". Do you think they would have sold as well as they did?

We know Square is incapable of designing a good game, because nowadays its good games are designed by outside people such as Yuji Horii. But Square should at least be expected to market the games well. The most important and most elementary part of marketing is the title of the game, and it even fails at that.

This begs the question: is there anything Square CAN do?

Re: Latest Square Enix Switch Sale Offers Up To 60% Off

TheWingedAvenger

It's really cheeky that the early Dragon Quest games don't include the original (and far superior) NES versions. It would have cost them very little to add them as bonuses. The remakes are the worst way to play these games. They're so bad that they aren't really Dragon Quest games at all.

Re: Feature: What Is The Zelda 'Formula'? We Break Down The Secret Recipe

TheWingedAvenger

You didn't mention the main feature that attracts me to Zelda games: a beautiful overworld to explore, so that would make 13 characteristics in all. No Zelda game has all 13 of them, but the three most important features of a great Zelda game are

1) overworld exploration
2) fun, simple combat
3) intriguing dungeons

The reason everyone hates on the DS games is that they lacked the simple combat of the best games. Most people don't want to play videogames with a pen. Some people dislike Skyward Sword and Majora's Mask because they have less exploration. The best balance of all the features was probably in Ocarina of Time.

Re: Two Namco Classics Join Hamster's Arcade Archives This Week

TheWingedAvenger

@GrailUK
True, the Namco arcade collection for Switch doesn't feature Xevious, but the Namco Museum Archive collection features the superior NES version of Xevious, in addition to the NES versions of Dragon Spirit and Galaxian which are also better than the arcade originals. In other words, buying the single versions of Pac-Man and Xevious is a waste of money.

Re: Triangle Strategy Has A Silly Name But Looks Great, Out In March

TheWingedAvenger

That ridiculous title is actually a deal-breaker to me. I've never read or watched any coverage of this game for that reason. All I know is that it's a tactical RPG. If they can't even think up a decent title, how can they think up a good game? Also there are dozens of great games in this genre, and they're all very similar to each other. I doubt this will be able to compete with the Fire Emblem and old Shining Force games.

Re: Hardware Classics: Nintendo GameCube

TheWingedAvenger

The Game Cube has a case for best console of its generation. Off the top of my head, Super Mario Sunshine, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Luigi's Mansion, Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime II, Mr Driller: Drill Land and Ikaruga are eight unique masterpieces that you just couldn't play on the PS2.

The PS2 also had some great masterworks such as Dragon Quest VIII, the Devil May Cry games, Vice City, San Andreas, and the Metal Gear Solid and Syphon Filter games, but there's no substitute for Mario and Zelda. Personality goes a long way, and that may push the GC beyond the PS2.

Re: Best GameCube Games

TheWingedAvenger

This list is proof that people don't know squat about videogames. Super Mario Sunshine down at number 47? It should be in the top 5. And where are Mr Driller: Drill Land, Gun, and Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy?
