Update: And just like that, a western release for Crystar has now been confirmed.
NIS America has confirmed that the game will be launching in Europe in spring 2022, complete with all previously released DLC content. A Limited Edition physical release is now available to pre-order on the NIS America Europe Online store (yes, that really is the store's name), as well as a standard version.
Original Article: Nintendo has announced that Crystar, an action RPG originally exclusive to PlayStation, will be launching on Switch in Japan next year.
From publisher FuRyu and developer Gemdrops, Crystar has you playing as four different characters in a bid to unlock their memories and learn the truth behind their stories. It stands out thanks to its battle mechanics which centre around crying (yes, crying), where characters can gather their grief and cry to power up their equipment and take down foes. "Tears aren't a sign of weakness, but of strength," the game says.
It initially launched on PS4 in Japan in October 2018, before launching for the same system in North America and Europe the following year. A worldwide Steam release also arrived in 2019, but this upcoming Switch version will be the first time the game has appeared on a non-Sony console.
Here's an English-language trailer from the game's PS4 release. It's all very emo and we love it.
Crystar launches for Switch in Japan on 24th February 2022, and while a western release hasn't yet been confirmed, the PS4 version's eventual western launch gives us hope that it will one day make the leap.

Not my kind of game, but seems quality.
Exactly my kind of a game, hope they will do the Western release along the Japanese one.
"'Tears aren't a sign of weakness, but of strength,' the game says."
I am loving this description. I like subversions of perceived weakness being used as strengths, because that's empowering. I see this game doesn't have the best review average on PS4 though. Crystar still looks worth keeping any eye on though.
Now if only the original Blue Reflection would make the jump.
The VA in the trailer sounds garbage.
"It stands out thanks to its battle mechanics which centre around crying" Like Super Princess Peach?
IIRC it has some Shaft animation for good measure. Been waiting long for a Switch port; hopefully English release is a given since the work has been done before and we've been blessed with even more exotic stuff here.
@SamirMalik hear, hear. The translation patch on Vita seems thankfully competent so far, but I'm so grabbing and restarting the game on Switch if it ever follows the upcoming sequel here. Same with the first Nights of Azure which would technically be my FOURTH time starting that one.😅
Hard to ignore such a massive market share.
That's not only perfect for Switch, it ACTUALLY looks like it was the target platform! All over it if they get physical in the west.
Lets hope its uncensored on Switch.
Been a fan of Gemdrops-produced games lately especially their contribution to recent JRPGs. I'm always interested what a small indie studio could do so I'll keep an eye out for this. I'm also pretty excited for their next game Cogen which I believe is their first original IP if I'm not mistaken.
Don't you guys just love how every girl in a Japanese videogame nowadays has white hair, a super-high-pitched voice and enormous buggy eyes? It's a great artistic choice which truly speaks to my soul. These are wonderfully talented artists. I used to like games such as Zelda and Dragon Quest, but as soon as I saw the girls with the buggy eyes I knew I'd found the meaning of life.
"Revive the little sister you killed".
" Like **** I will, she lost my copy of Mario Kart!"
Decent game if you got the time , colorful & good voice acting too
@Xiovanni Don’t forget The Binding of Isaac!
It's looks like a game suited to the Switch. I'll monitor this one.
Dizzam that gameplay looks stiff. Reviews are middling. Gonna pass, which is a shame because emo anime girls are TS
