Re: Talking Point: How Do You Store Your Games Collection?

TheJamesHollan

I keep all of mine on a custom-made shelf along with the systems that they go to, which includes a Playstation 2, a Wii U, 2 Dreamcasts, a Kindle Fire, & 20+ games. I built the shelf over 20 years ago when I was in high school, but the shelf isn't quite big enough, though, as my Nintendo Switch has to occupy space atop my budget gaming PC lol.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Is Targeting A 2024 Release For The Switch Successor

TheJamesHollan

I don't really care if it's LCD or not. I mainly play docked anyways. What I want to know is if it'll be backwards compatible (which I'm sure it will be considering it's Nintendo), how close it's going to be to the PS4 in terms of power, and if it'll have an SSD for faster loading times.

Also, I hope they call it the Super Nintendo Switch just for nostalgia's sake lol

I wonder how they're gonna handle the big emotional stuff like what happens with the Going Merry, or when CP-9 captures Nico Robin. If the series even makes it that far. In any case, I can't wait to see how it looks when Don Kreig's ship gets destroyed as Mihawk arrives!

@Snatcher In the video, skip to about 1:35. It's brief, but if you pause it a couple of times, you'll at least get a glimpse of how Arlong's crew looks.

@Coolmusic Usopp's nose isn't all that's missing. Sanji is missing his cigarette/lollipop, too.

Re: No Man's Sky Has Been Secretly In The Works For Two Years, And There's More Info To Come

TheJamesHollan

It's great to see the Switch still getting Impossible ports and I'm definitely looking forward to this, but after this would it be safe to say that nothing is impossible for the Switch anymore?

I mean I remember that about 2 or 3 years ago
I'd asked people on Twitter if games of this scale were possible on Switch and somebody said no, but then we got games like Starlink and Morphite which I guess has lead us to where we are now. So what's next? X4? Everspace 2? EVE Online? Elite Dangerous? Maybe even Star Citizen? Probably not, but a guy can dream.

Also, it might be nice to get a Switch compatible Hotas for games like this.

P.S. I can't wait to see what the folks over at Digital Foundry have to say about this.

Re: Spacefaring Epic 'No Man's Sky' Is Coming To Nintendo Switch

TheJamesHollan

"For the last couple of years, a couple of members of our small team have been secretly working on the Nintendo Switch version of No Man’s Sky. It has been a real moonshot. No Man’s Sky is built around procedural generation, which means the console generates everything you see. This makes it so much harder to bring our game to something like the Switch. There have been so many times where we’ve gone home one day convinced it was impossible, only to have someone stride in the next day with a unique technical solution. Honestly I think this team never seems happier than when they are trying to do near-impossible things."

Re: Random: The OG Tomb Raider Looks Amazing On Game Boy Advance

@Specter_of-the_OLED People probably said the same thing when Capcom revealed Resident Evil 2 for the N64, yet here we are.

"The Nintendo 64 version of Resident Evil 2 is one of the few games released for the console to have FMVs, overcoming the limited storage space on the cartridge. The PlayStation version with two CD-ROMs of up to 700 MB per disc was faithfully replicated (with unique enhancements) on a 64 MB Nintendo 64 Game Pak. Audio and video assets had to be more aggressively and creatively compressed, using novel techniques that shift the burden more toward the console's high real-time processing power. Over the course of twelve months and with a budget of $1 million, Resident Evil 2 was ported to the console by a team led by nine full-time and one part-time personnel from Angel Studios. Further help was provided by ten staff from Capcom Production Studio 3 and Factor 5. This version offers features that were not included on any other system, such as alternate costumes, the ability to adjust the degree of violence and to change the blood color, a randomizer to place items differently during each playthrough, and a more responsive first-person control scheme. Additionally, the port features 16 new in-game documents known as the "Ex Files", written by Tetsuro Oyama. Hidden throughout the four scenarios, they reveal new information about the series' lore and connect the story of Resident Evil 2 to those of the other installments, including some that had not been released yet.

The Nintendo 64 version adjusts its display resolution depending on the number of polygonal models currently on screen, and supports the console's Expansion Pak accessory for a maximum resolution of 640Ă—480 during gameplay. Other visual enhancements include smoother character animations and sharper, perspective-corrected textures for the 3D models. The Nintendo 64 version is the only one to use surround sound, with the soundtrack converted to Dolby Surround by Chris HĂ¼lsbeck, Rudolf Stember and Thomas Engel. The team reworked the sound set from the ground up to provide each instrument with a higher sample rate than on the PlayStation, thus resulting in higher-quality music. Some features from the other enhanced ports based on the Dual Shock Ver. do not appear in the Nintendo 64 version, such as the "Extreme Battle" minigame. In 2018, Eurogamer called this "one of the most ambitious [and impressive] console ports of all time"." ~ Wikipedia

Re: Retro: Back In 1996, Nintendo 64 Was The Must-Have Christmas Gift - Alongside 'Tickle Me Elmo'

TheJamesHollan

I remember it very differently. I actually wanted a Playstation because I was buying all the FFVII hype, but my cousins kept trying to tell me to get an N64.

On my 17th birthday I finally had the money to get a PSX and the next day my mom and I went to the closest Walmart, but they were sold out. The lady working in electronics was nice enough to call over to the other Walmart and she asked if they had any, but they were sold out, too.

I started looking around and saw a bunch of N64's sitting on the shelves, so I decided to get one of them. I didn't have enough money to get a game to go with it, but my mom bought WCW/NWO World Tour for me and over time I collected games such as WWF No Mercy, Diddy Kong Racing, Perfect Dark, and one of my all time favorites: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

I've collected other consoles since then, like my Sega Dreamcast Sports Package, my 32GB Wii U, my PS2, and a couple of others that I no longer have. Eventually, I did get to try a PSX and FFVII and I realized that I didn't like it. The controlls felt too small and I don't like turn-based gameplay.

Re: Feature: 14 Wii Games That Deserve Switch Ports

I only ever played a demo of Excite Bots, but I had Excite Truck and it was pretty awesome. I especially liked being able to play 100 songs off of my SD card as a soundtrack. Hearing Megadeth's "Symphony of Destruction" as I was sailing through the air was pretty satisfying for some reason lol

Re: Talking Point: Is There A Better-Looking 20-Year-Old Game Than Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II?

TheJamesHollan

I remember when this game came out. My mom and I went to Walmart and they were showing this game on one of their big screen TV's.

My mom, being the huge Star Wars fan that she was, gawked at the screen and asked me if that was a movie. With a big goofy grin on my face I said "Nope, that's a game!". I ended up getting that game not too long after that.

In my opinion, the only other game on the GCN whose graphics come close to Rogue Squadron II is Resident Evil 4. It's not 20 years old just yet, though.

Re: New Nintendo Infographic Shows Every Game Featured During The E3 Direct

TheJamesHollan

I'm looking forward to Metroid Dread, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2, SMT V, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, and DBZ Kakarot. I'll also give Skyward Sword HD a go now that it can be played without waggle controls.

As for the others, I still need to get Smash, Doom Eternal, and Hyrule Warriors. Money's been tight, but I should be able to get at least one of these by the time they're released lol

Re: Kingdom Come: Deliverance Switch Port Is Finally Confirmed

TheJamesHollan

@nhSnork lol it's alright. I've never really been into portable gaming until I got a Switch. I had a DSi once, but i rarely ever played it. The only reason i had it was because my mom brought it home from where she worked.

She used to work at a convenience store. One day, some kid and his mom came into the store and the kid had the DSi with them. Apparently the kid laid it down and forgot about it, so one of the store employees put it in the office for about a week in case the kid came back looking for it, which they never did, so management let my mom bring it home to me.

My niece and nephews played it more than I did and they ended up leaving it outside where it got rained on. I believe I still have one of the games, but I can't remember what it's called.
