Redout was a title that aimed to give its own spin on futuristic ant-grav racing, bringing to mind the likes of WipEout and F-Zero. It was a reasonable effort, though there were certainly areas for improvement; the hope is that its sequel will build on the IP's potential.
Saber Interactive and developer 34BigThings have now confirmed a release date for Redout 2; it'll arrive on Switch and everything else on 26th May, so it's not far away. There'll be plenty of optimism around it, but it's worth noting that competitive online multiplayer is going to be limited to six players in the Switch version, half that of other platforms.
You can see the official description for the game below:
Redout 2 is the biggest and fastest entry in the series yet, with more tracks than ever before. Strafe, tilt and boost your customizable hovership through dozens of mind-bending, jaw-dropping courses in a variety of game modes, including an expansive single-player campaign plus competitive online multiplayer for up to 12 players on PC, PlayStation and Xbox, and up to six players on Nintendo Switch.
Key Features:
- Speed & Control: With blazing-fast speeds of over 1,000 km/h and an intuitive driving system, Redout 2 is a blast to pick up and play, but truly rewarding for any who can master its super-high skill ceiling.
- Extensive Career Mode: Fly through hundreds of events across 36 unique racetracks – all of which are reversible! From Arena Races and Time Attacks to Last Man Standing and intense Boss Races, dart past the competition and dominate the finish line.
- Competitive Multiplayer: Take on rivals in intense online multiplayer. Dive into fresh challenges with regularly added custom content and seasons featuring bonus rewards.
- Comprehensive Customization: Choose from 12 distinct chassis and fully customize your hovership with an incredible selection of propulsors, stabilizers, rudders, intercoolers, flaps, magnets, wings, spoilers, rocket engines, paints and more!
- Experience a futuristic soundtrack from leading electronic artists like the legendary Giorgio Moroder and acclaimed talents such as Zardonic and Dance with the Dead, with music seamlessly and dynamically mixed based on real-time race data.
- Create and share your best high-speed moments with Redout 2’s Photo Mode.
We'll certainly keep an eye on this one to see how it shapes up on Switch.

This looks like if Star Wars and Mario Kart had a baby
Day 1 purchase for me.
Some of the devs worked on the WipEout franchise previously, if I remember correctly. Too bad the first one had terrible performance issues on Switch. Resolution so low it was unplayable.
@Marioman2022 So.. F-Zero
I've never been interested in these racing games from the Wipeout family tree. Just not my taste.
Hows it compare to Fast Racing?
@Switchcraft
You're thinking of Formula Fusion/Pacer - that had 'ex WipEout devs' as a selling point, but it wasn't anybody who had anything to do with the gameplay, so it made no difference and no WipEout magic.
Redout was indeed pretty compromised on Switch. I don't think we can hold out much hope that this sequel is any different, but I would like to be pleasantly surprised.
I will likely grab this one on PC.
Day 1 on Xbox, the first game was great. I purchased all the dlc tracks when on sale too... Looking forward to this.
However, apparently the first ran poorly on Switch so I'm surprised the second is releasing on the system.
@sanderev
Pretty much
Pretty curious to see how it will perform on Switch.
On that depends if I buy it soon or not lol
Still looks and runs terrible compare to FAST RMX. I would be okay with the ugly look had they nailed the speed and gameplay aspect but it doesn't look like they know how to optimize each performance miracle for the Switch. The first one on Switch was slow, sluggish, and ugly.
Play the 1st part yourself , not just read reviews !!! The game - on Switch - isnt that bad !!! Just wait for a sale !!!
Day 1 purchase, on Steam. Play this game on a Class-A PC is another level. The sound, 144hz, 120FPS+ ....this game is absolutely incredible!
You NEED to master the twin sticks to play it. it´s like "ATV x MX" games...you need, necessarily, the 2 analogs to be able to make the turns. I love this kind of gameplay.
Loved the first one but good Lord it was hard though. Hopefully issues with vehicle handling and physics in general have been ironed out because apart from this I considered it a pretty good rival to Wipeout.
I'll wait for reviews and pricing details. Lacklustre reviews or a high price, I'm out.
Yeeeeaaah, still doesn't do it for me. It looks like it may be faster than the first game (but it's been a while so I don't know for sure), but there's something still off about it, coming from an F-Zero fan. The cars are too big, there's not enough of them, the tracks don't seem to be wild enough...Still waiting for my F-Zero replacement if Nintendo won't give us a sequel.
@Marioman2022 @sanderev looks more like Star Wars Episode I Racer to me
@TheJamesHollan Nah, it is a lot faster.
Looks really good, but I just cannot see the switch version being any good. the first game was delayed for over a year whilst they tried to get it to run. this game is way more advanced than that one.
