Hello Games has revealed yet another free update for No Man's Sky, just weeks after its last major 'Fractal' update.
The new update, dubbed 'Interceptor', brings fresh lore to the game by introducing a new corruption spreading across the universe, adding new enemies to the mix along with new resources and a new Starship class. Lots of new stuff, then! We like that.
Here's a look at what you can expect from the Interceptor update (keep in mind there may be points here that won't be relevant to the Switch version):
Hugely varied new Starship - expand your fleet by salvaging your perfect Sentinel ship, or collect a whole range of Interceptors.
Corrupt Worlds - many worlds have succumbed to corruption, with strange crystals sprouting from the earth, and sentinel guardians twisted into bizarre new forms. Explore these purple-hazed worlds to find new buildings, crashed interceptors, secret equipment and more…
VR Improvements - watching players on our new PSVR2 version has inspired us to add a whole bunch of improvements and new features for VR including wrist interface controls, improved visuals and more.
New Enemy types - including huge spider-like enemies and their small crab-like children, plus corrupted drones. These combat machines are some of our most lethal, armed with stealth tech, flamethrower and explosive weaponry.
New Tech - Interceptor ships are powered by unique new Sentinel technology requiring new resources, and with new abilities including the Anti-Gravity Well and Crimson Core. There are new Sentinel Multi-Tools and a large winged Sentinel jetpacks too.
Custom Wonders - inspired by how players have enjoyed the Wonders Catalogue from our previous update, so now you may curate your own collection of favourite discoveries with the Personal Records section of the Wonders catalogue. Bookmark spectacular planets, bizarre alien creatures, favourite flowers and more.
Sentinel capital ships - huge Sentinel Capital ships feature compelling space combat, and an ultimate goal for weaponry heavy ships. Defeating Sentinel freighter is incredibly bombastic but also clears your “wanted” status and earns new high-value rewards.
Performance and Visuals Improvements - our engine team is continually improving performance and visuals on all formats. A recent focus has been on VR, and in this update there was a renewed focus on Xbox consoles, including new tech allowing travellers to maintain a smooth and consistent framerate in visually complex scenes.
The Interceptor update launches on Wednesday, April 5th, 2023 (that's tomorrow!) and will be free for all existing players.

This game has content for DAYS, and I unfortunately don't have enough time to sink into a game this size. The consistent content updates are pretty awesome for the fans though!
I hope they fix the texture issues. On my main save with 100, about 95% of the planets I land on have missing textures. I haven't seen a creature with it's proper texture in over 20 hours.
These guys don't play when it comes to updates.
I swear I can’t keep up with this game but I respect all the changes/updates.
No expedition to go with it, it seems, but it's been days since the last one, so hey. I actually got complacent and procrastinated through the better part of those six weeks, but the task map seemed easy and, for the most part, proved to be - which, however, made it sting all the more to end up three basic milestones away from the promised exclusive ship simply because I faced the deficit of the normally sneeze-and-you-hit-it copper. Why is it stuff like ships and frigates that I tend to let slip through my fingers?😅 Oh well, the whole deal was still fun and one of the most interesting expeditions [on Switch] to date.
When I finally pick this back up on the Switch (put in over 100 hours initially, all handheld), it sounds like there’s enough content to keep me busy for dozens more hours. I love it. Hopefully crashes/texture load-in issues have been minimized a bit since the last time I played.
Super pumped for this. I have around 600 hours in the Switch version of NMS so far (more on other platforms over the past few years), and drops like this go a long way towards feeding my addiction. I can't wait for this update to drop on Switch. The new ships alone will provide hours (and hours!) of fun searching for just the right one.
Hello Games is amazing for providing all of these huge - free - content drops. One of the greatest comeback stories and most support-worthy devs in existence, imo.
Now, if we could just get capes in the Switch version...
This game certainly has come a long way since it's disasterous release!
Wow.. even more content! O_O; I swear, I'm going to still be playing this game for many years to come! ^^;
Just make mining quicker on Switch and I will be a happy boy! On and capes! Love all the updates for this game, will have to go back to this game, great game to sink hours and days into
Would love to play this game, but then it would have to be my one and only, and i just cant do that.
Will pick this up someday. Usually I go digital but will have to wait for a physical sale on this one since it has to be a massive file, even before all these updates...$37 is a bit too high though for such an old game.
@theModestMouse It’s only 12GB and change fully updated on PC. It’ll be even smaller on Switch.
This game just keeps on giving and giving.
@theModestMouse Massive? It's just a little under 5 GB in its current state, not sure how much that will balloon with this new update. Wouldn't waiting for physical mean you'd still have to download this new update anyway, or will newer physical copies have the update included?
@Manxman64 Report it to their Zendesk, they fix bugs pretty frequently. I haven't had this issue, are you in Eulid or a different system?
How does the game run in handheld mode?
@Brobeans it runs great, will never be the same performance as next gen consoles but it runs really well for Switch. Obvious framerate dips and bad texture and draw distance but still a fantastic little game. I only play in handheld
Still waiting for Nintendo to approve the patch…..
I wish I could play the update, but Nintendo still didn’t approve the update. Like always they take their time not really caring. Wouldn’t be surprised if it takes another week or two.
Yeah, it's April 8th and I'm still waiting for Nintendo to approve the update.
Me: I'ma play the NMS update all weekend
Nintendo: lol nope
Just started downloading the update now so if anyone's still waiting....
The update is live for switch, finally.
I haven’t got the update yet why
