The free-to-play shooter Warface has turned off the crossplay feature in the Nintendo Switch version of the game.
Some fans apparently weren't happy about crossplay being enabled by default, so the developer has now turned it off and added an option to turn it on or off. In a message on the game's official website, the team said they wanted to allow players to make the choice themselves. Here's how you can reactive it if you do want to go up against players on other platforms:
We've been analyzing your feedback for months and decided that it would be better to let players decide whether they want to play in crossplay on their own. That is why a new function was added: players now can turn on/off crossplay for PvP and PvE as they wish.
Please note: At the moment PvP mode in crossplay is turned off by default for all Nintendo Switch players. If you want to play with fighters from other platforms, you can turn the function on in your system settings.
Warface was released on the Nintendo Switch back in February last year. At the time, we said it was a decent enough FPS experience on the system - awarding it seven out of ten stars. Read our review to learn more about this game.
What are your own thoughts about crossplay on Switch? Do you play with it on or off when given the option? Tell us down.

I don’t really play these types of games, but isn’t crossplay typically a much requested and even much demanded feature? Why is disabling it considered a good thing?
I'm actively playing this game especially PvE mode and one reason I can think of why disabling the crossplay is needed is because of PvP mode... I think keyboard/mouse has more advantage than gyroscope aiming or analog sticks... and yes, I've also seen some very good players in youtube playing in the switch versions so that invalidates my point... but that's just my opinion...
@mereel
Typically speaking Switch versions of shooters tend to be capped at 30fps and have an unstable framerate at that. Competitive shooters demand above all else a super stable framerate preferably at 60 or higher. It may sound weird, but if two players equally skilled at the same control scheme yet their machines are unequal in the sense that one has a much higher refresh rate, they are usually at an advantage during encounters. I didn’t believe it either until I switched from playing Fortnite on Switch to PS5. I’m dramatically more accurate and I’m more competitive on PS5 and I find it easier to get on target. The switch version has a pretty unstable framerate and that impacts your ability to rapidly switch targets. I assume this shooter is no different.
Another issue is that Switch users tend to use wifi, which increases their latency. Once again it’s a disadvantage in a heated firefight when you’re dropping packets.
Plus there is the M&K combo. But thanks to aggressive aim assist on most modern shooters that’s actually becoming less of a concern. You can be really competitive on shooters with pad now, something that wasn’t the case ten years ago. I play COD with a Dualsense and i go up against M&K users all the time and I’d say I feel confident against them 70% of the time. Modern aim assist really makes up for the lack of precision on analog sticks.
I used to play this game all the time in PvP on switch and was quite good at it but when they added cross play it was obvious that switch players were at a massive disadvantage ( always the lowest scoring team members etc). Also there was never any problem getting games populated before cross play was added.
This is a fun game. Considering the Switch's wifi capability it is a good decision IMO. Otherwise you would get shot through the head before even lifting the gun.
@mereel usually cause of advantages something like a PC would have compared to the switch, like framerate and specs. toggling off crossplay helps level the playing field i suppose
Funnily enough I was talking to someone earlier in the week trying to play vanguard on series x who considered himself half decent on fps games who said it was almost impossible competing against someone using keyboard and mouse on a pc
I've never really found an issue with crossplay to begin with, especially considering the demographics of the players in this game. Maybe I'm just too good at the PvP, but there aren't really that many skilled players to justify the deactivation of crossplay by default.
Yo it’s awesome to see you guys covering this still! As one of the only FPS on switch, it’s nice to have crossplay turned off because the switch version is way to behind graphically to compete with the other versions. Lots of problems with connections and hit registration. The game is a very solid FPS when it’s only switch players playing against each other.
@YusseiWarrior3000 a fellow solider! Are you liking no crossplay?
@TheRedComet @mereel This is true. I think it should also be noted that there are at least two shooters on the Switch that do run at 60 fps. Those being Paladins and Rogue Company. I haven't played Paladins in a while, but I do play Rogue Company quite a bit.
Both games are by Hi-Rez Studios and offer crossplay.
