Re: Nintendo Switch Teardown Suggests Production Cost Is Around $260 Per Unit

@impurekind , "the relatively high price of the system",
When adjusted for inflation the original NES with ROB in 1985 would today cost $330.
Its not a scientific survey, but everybody I've spoken to (not N fanboys, just parents around the soccer field etc) have all commented how $300 is a deal for a portable console.
Please explain your perception of "high price".

Re: Nintendo Switch Teardown Suggests Production Cost Is Around $260 Per Unit

@PlywoodStick "More like a $200 difference [for Tegra X2 over X1]",
Perhaps, but I'm skeptical of that number. I'm suggesting that given leveraged purchasing (at least 30 million units), they could have gotten us the X2 if they raised the retail price by ~$20 and forget about trying to make a profit, just break even. Tesla cars aren't selling 30+ million units — I'm just supposing that they could have made it happen, and the system would be better for it.

Re: Nintendo's Harshest Critic Thinks Switch Will Outsell Microsoft's Scorpio

I have 18 years in hedge fund research and market analytics and Pachter is a joke. Media likes him, but his research isn't very good. This is the guy who recommended selling Netflix stock and buying Blockbuster stock — that's how bad his judgement is. He's basically a media personality at this point. A lot like how Bill Nye isn't really a scientist, he's basically a clown, but the media likes to use him as a prop.

Re: Soapbox: The Nintendo Switch's Final Specs Don't Matter

TheAdrock

Wrong. All things being equal a more powerful system is always better. If Nintendo were to come out with a bleeding-edge console that surpassed PS or XB while having all the N titles... OF COURSE that would be a good thing. Gimmicks can sometimes matter, and obviously content matters, but to disregard pure processing and graphics ability is naive.

Re: Reaction: Nintendo Shakes Up E3 With No NX and a Focus on Legend of Zelda

TheAdrock

What thomas said is correct. I was just thinking last week about buying some Nintendo stock in anticipation of NX and Nintendo's great reversal. Now I'm back to thinking they are a bunch of **** ups who can't figure out what they are doing. Its like watching Blockbuster video slowly die because they haven't figured out what people want.

Re: Talking Point: Learning Lessons From the Past Can Define Nintendo's NX Launch

TheAdrock

Right, so a new console needs great games at/near release. Duh. We are still waiting for a new original Zelda for the U, and it looks as though it will be a simultaneous release with the NX (meaning that the U never gets an original Zelda). Splatoon is a great game and really shows off the gamepad's usefulness, but its 3 years late to the party. And stop nagging about 3rd party being necessary — if the console is a success then 3P will come.

Re: Talking Point: Raw Power Isn't Vital to Nintendo's NX, But It Does Matter

Make a complete Home Entertainment System for once. Fully functional and robust DVR (can be an add-on), comprehensive streaming media support (like Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, etc with ALL the major media channels), make it a snap to dev for (you can put up a Roku channel in a few minutes, for example), if they have another Gamepad (can be an add-on) make it function as a remote and TV guide for all your media, Bluray player (just pay Sony for the usage rights), and for goodness sake give it CPU POWER because even if Nintendo doesn't think they need it the media and consumers don't know that and they publicize raw numbers. Esp if its a modular system N can promote the tricked out version as "most powerful" while the basic module is affordable.

Re: Talking Point: Raw Power Isn't Vital to Nintendo's NX, But It Does Matter

TheAdrock

3rd P Devs "moved on" because there was nothing there for them on the U — impossible to dev for, and no audience. Give them something to dev on and they'll come back. Anybody who says otherwise is unfamiliar with the business. If Nintendo's next console is under-powered, they will have officially and totally lost the console wars for good. They will be Sega. ... I've said for years, make a modular console with upgradable parts. Add memory, add CPU, etc.

Re: Talking Point: The Legend of Zelda on Wii U May Benefit From a Delay, But It Leaves a Blockbuster-Sized Gap

TheAdrock

Its 3 years late as it is. This should have been made for release with the U in 2012. The U would have been a smash hit if it had. Instead of making that horrible Skyward Sword, they should have been working on the next-gen Zelda at that time. Its just sad to see such poor planning by management. I don't begrudge Aonuma making this game as great as it can be, its just a reflection of bad planning. These "discoveries" of how to make the game cool should have been made in 2011.

Re: New Nintendo 3DS Models Announced

Meh. Time for a real upgrade. Most cell phones have better screens and more processing power than this handheld. When will it integrate with the U as a second controller or something?

Re: Ubisoft Clarifies Reasoning For The Crew Skipping Wii U

TheAdrock

@midnafanboy, Friendo, Its not that I want a new console per-se, its that the market and developers do. The PS4 sold more in one month than the U has in 2 years. If you want consumers to buy your console then you need games... and if you want 3rdP devs to make games then you need them to be excited about deving on your console, and clearly 3rdPs don't care about the U. This should be obvious to everybody but the fanboy drones. Is this situation supposed to improve as the U ages? The U was 2 years too late to market; should have replaced the Wii sooner. At this point its too far behind. Cut the loss and start over: new console by Christmas 2015. And don't call it a variation of the Wii. Disagree? Fine with me. P.S. I'm no hater: I've been a Nintendo fan since before most on here were born. I want to see a N revival.
