Re: Zelda: Wind Waker HD Release Triggers 685% Increase In UK Wii U Hardware Sales

@Squashy , Its been 2 years since Skyward, and they are talking about it taking ANOTHER 2 years before Zelda U arrives. You think 4 years is just about right, when you've got a new console without any new games that you're trying to push? Two years should be plenty.
@wombatkidd, Who said a weekend? I said that 4 years is too long when your new console is desperate for new hot product.
What would be getting more attention for the U this Christmas: a remake of a Gamecube Zelda or a some brand new title designed specifically for their new console? As I say, 2 years should be plenty.

@Boxmonkey, unfortunately you're probably right about Zelda U being a couple more years away. Which is inexcusable to have a new console with no new Zelda for 3 years from lauch?! N has the resources to dedicate the manpower to getting it done in the next 12 months. I'm not suggesting they "rush" it like they did the U console, just invest in delivering a grade-A new Zelda game for this U console within the first two years of its launch.

@SCAR392 , playing a game (or watching a show) ON the gamepad, with sound (which is one of the main selling points of this system), and whatever the default brightness is, it seems to be about 2 hours... and while I may be exaggerating slightly, its not certainly not far off. I'm considering buying a second gamepad just for this reason.

Can't buy this. Its been out of stock on Gamestop's site since it was announced. It doesn't appear to ever be coming in stock. When I called around to all the local Gamestop retailers they tell me that its been discontinued already. So stupid. They could probably sell a boat load of these if they half-tried.

@Ernest_The_Crab "the swappable component would just make people question why get it in the first place when you have a PC that is already highly swappable."
1. Because a PC doesn't play Nintendo IP.
2. Because when developers come out with a new game engine that the Nintendo console can't handle a year after its release, N can simply release a new CPU or GPU cartridge that can handle it. Cheaper for the consumer than buying a new console. Prolongs the life of the Nintendo system.
If today N released an off-the-shelf CPU upgrade for the U (easy slide-in cartridge for dummies) that compared to the upcoming MS/PS consoles in terms of flops and can handle the new Ignite engine... now they're back in the game. ??

Innovate or die. That's free market capitalism. (See Blackberry and 10,000 other examples if you doubt that axiom).
If this Christmas season doesn't see a massive turnout for the Wii U, then its safe to say that the Gamepad innovation isn't of interest to the market, so dump the U and go back to the drawing board.
How about an easily upgradeable console (plug-n-play swappable CPU, GPU, RAM, etc)?

Re: The Wii U Continues to Struggle in Japanese Charts

Tell me again about how the U's problems are all because of 3rd party devs.
Or the media conspiracy against Nintendo (which somehow didn't affect the first Wii).
Or tell me about how its Fukushima's fault.
Or maybe George W Bush's fault (if you're a Democrat)... and its Obama's fault if you're a Republican.

Re: Video: Want To See Just How Much Better Zelda: Wind Waker Looks In HD?

@odd69 "the money Nintendo spent on a game already made could have spent on a entirely new Zelda." ...
Not even close. To re-render an existing game is a piece of cake. There's no creative process nor even much debugging to do with a re-render. Its so simple that I propose Nintendo do this to all the Zeldas. Not a remaster like the new Ducktales (which is a whole new game), just new paint. I'd buy every one of them if they did that. And its a snap for Nintendo to perform, relative to a new game.

@Kirk "To do an HD update of Wind Waker it's a lot less work than doing the same of Marjora's Mask." ...
I'm pretty sure that's not accurate. Pretty much the same technical effort to re-render an old game. They could pop out HD Zelda reissues every couple months (again, not remasters, just new paint of an existing title). $50 is steep, but $20 would be a value price point, and they've got enough material sitting around.

Re: Talking Point: The Wii U May Be Playing Catch-Up With Some Developers, But Money Always Talks

@DarkKirby "Other than the lack of "console selling games" as it were, the Wii U has predictably fell into the same niche the Wii did, as the cheaper and weaker of the (eventual) 3 systems, even before the other 2 are out. The difference is the casual market has moved on to obsessing over smartphone games. There wasn't really a way around this, short of eventually releasing a Wii U Plus add on which would essentially be like a graphics card upgrade and allowing different graphics settings like PCs have (which I am open to),"

^What this guy said.
I wish they'd come out with an upgradeable console with swapable plug-n-play components (graphics & CPU primarily). Technically simple to accomplish. Some new game engine needs more HP to play, release upgraded components. The U is mostly a fine console, just underpowered. You're welcome Nintendo.
