After a long period of silence, Aeipathy Industries has released the first episode of its adaptation of Akira Himekawa's Legend of Zelda manga series.
Produced under the Zeldamotion banner, the fan-made series is being funded via direct donations and its own Patreon campaign. It showcases the vocal talents of Todd Haberkorn and Vic Mignogna, and as you can see from the debut episode below, the quality is very impressive for a production of this type.
If you like what you see then make sure you support the project by spreading the word and maybe even pledging some financial support.
Thanks to Benjamin Allen for the tip.

It finally happened!
I'd forgotten all about this!
I forgot about this too! Is that vic migiona (don't know how to spell his name he played in fma.) !?
AMAZING!!!
Look Nintendo, voice acting that's pretty good in a Zelda game. It can be done!
@Nintendo6400
Yup, he voices Agahnim in this but it is the guy who voices Edward Elric.
I'm sure a lot of people are going to lash out at Todd because it's weird hearing Link talk but I have a soft spot for him after watching D Gray Man.
I wanted them to test out voice acting in hyrule warriors. Oh and the lady who starts talking before you start a quest doesn't count.
@__Link__
You can't be serious..! A LoZ with that voice for Link? no thanks..
If I get to choose jp voices then fine but I can't live with a voice that's so "weak" (I lack the right english word light/wuss-like), and no I'm not all against Zelda voice acting it just need to be right, I can mention too many localizations where the va is just nightmarish while the OG is good, I really don't want Zelda to end up in that pile of games where the va ruins my game experience..
Sorry, but this doesn't impress me in the slightest. There are far to many mistakes and design flaws to consider this good. Besides, lazily animated and colored manga scans happened with much better quality in less time it took these guys to release... this.
@Kaze_Memaryu dude its fanmade man. what can you expect. Atleast it had touching moments.
Well, it's better than the animated cutscenes from Wand of Gamelon...
@CaviarMeths that is high praise indeed !
@Artwark I expected more than that. There are fan animations that look a whole load more professional than this, and they didn't even need to ask for donations to make them (Mike Inel is a great example, just don't look him up too quickly, he has a good amount of NSFW ready).
that was pretty decent, the start had a slight star wars taste to it
They should be speaking Hyrulian surely? Enjoyed it a lot though.
@kukabuksilaks I couldn't care less about your opinion. But thanks for sharing I guess...
Link speaks? Blasphomy
After watching it... The animation isnt good enough to keep me going through the entre series, the Musi Is good though
@__Link__ Nintendo, Link has spoken!! Agree to his demands! 😄
Meh, it's just traced artwork from the manga cobbled into animation.
Nothing worth supporting with money.
This is what animated Link should look like:

@Usagi-san Yeah, I agree, I was expecting something quality. Yeah, that xD good luck finding youtubers than can produce that!
The writing is by far the worst part of this, followed closely by the voice acting. Let's review for a second.
Link: "My first harvest. These apples are perfect! Just the right color and shine!"
Uncle: "Let me see..."
(5 second pause)
Uncle: (forced laugh) "This is a great start for the season!"
Link: "This has got to be the best apple orchard in all of Hyrule! Everyone's gonna travel here to try my apples!" [unintentional but obvious sexual innuendo]
Uncle: YOUR apples, huh?
Link: I've even got a name for the orchard!
Uncle: Oh yeah? And what is that?
Link: Well it would make sense to name it 'Link's LEGENDARY apple orchard!'
Uncle: (Really overexaggerated laugh)
Link: What's so funny?
I'm not against the effort to make an animated Zelda, but if you're going to do something like this, at least get some people who can write and do decent voice acting. At least the music is spot-on.
I like this maybe is because i love animation and i'm going into animation maybe that's it? But still this great the story needs some work,all the people here saying this is bad must be the greatest animators of all time to say that.
Well, I liked it.
As soon as Link spoke I said to myself, "And que rage comments." And sure enough, there's already some here. XD
Ok, I do REALLY like this BUT as a trained animator, both traditional cell animation and 3D, I only wish the cell work for the characters was a little higher quality in terms of the quality of the line art. I'm exaggerating here but it looks a bit like it was drawn with a computer mouse or on a touch tablet, maybe like it was done in Wii U Art Academy using one of the medium thickness brushes or something, where it's hard to get really high quality and fine line work. Other than that it's great though and really well done in all areas, with especially great sound/audio and voice work. I only wish Nintendo would make an official Zelda cartoons series, or even feature film, and take it this seriously and treat it with this much respect (basically not make it for Nickelodeon teenies or whatever).
Looking forward to future episodes...
I'd actually like to see what these guys could do with a feature film level of budget.
was NOT good at all.
Music, colour choices, animation, design. the VA's were decent, but the script was terrible
@FlaygletheBagel Yeah, it is a bit much.
@Kaze_Memaryu Totally agreed. I'm not trying to be critical but this is 'okay' at best.
@midnafanboy Sorry, didn't know I needed to be on the same level as Hayao Miyazaki or Walt Disney in order to give my opinion on this.
they need to fix the tone it doesnt feel like zelda it 100% reminds me of lame bible story cartoons i had to watch at school once in a while
I'm sorry. I could forgive the animation and even Link's unheroic voice, but that intro can't go unaddressed! That is your setup?! Link is a farmer? Not just any farmer, but an apple farmer? Oh, and his uncle died? Okay, it's not like I was supposed to like him, or you would have at least established a connection between me, the viewer, and the character by—oh, I don't know... GIVING HIM A NAME, for starters!
Look at this radio drama called a Prequel of Two:
http://youtu.be/ScVimkaEWxg (this is part 1)
http://youtu.be/0kQVYXPsLyA (and part 2)
This established a connection between the audience and all the main characters, as well as a connection between Link and Zelda, and even gave Link's Uncle a name! His uncle doesn't die in this one though, as it's more of a prequel leading up to his death, which makes it all the more sad, learning more and more about the character whom you know is gonna die (like Satine in Moulin Rouge). On top of that, I would sooner believe Link growing up as a knight in training than an apple-picking farm boy, but that comes down to personal preference; the guy's had many occupations besides Hero of Legend, mostly blacksmith apprentice. I'm getting off-topic, though.
For how little this animated episode did, the radio drama did so much more without needing any visuals.
This is great! Definitely don't understand all the hate this is getting, last I checked this was two guys doing this, not a whole animation team like most people here seem to think. Oh well, people will complain about anything these days.
As a fan project this is utterly brilliant. Sure the animation could use some work, but over all this was a very nicely done production! Can't wait to see more of it.
Ugh, I hope to unsee this.
@__Link__
@Nintendo6400 It might be Haberkorn more likely.
Enjoy it before Nintendo's lawyers crack down =|
Love this!
I thought this was really well done!
As for all the gripes I'm reading here, let us not forget the sins of the past...

@allav866 This video is an adaptation of Akira Himekawa's Link to the Past Manga, incase you didn't know, that Manga shows Link as a farmer in the beginning so it makes sense. You should try reading it, it's pretty good.
The video wasn't bad, though it could use some improvement. They could probably start with changing/improving Link's VA. I personally wouldn't mind seeing more if they can tweak it up a bit.
Hate the sappy Zelda manga with a passion, but at least thanks to reading them I can safely drop this one.
Stop complaining that was good.
That was good!
I liked it. I'd watch more episodes every once in a while.
BRAVO! Excellent job.
I love this, and I think voice acting would be awesome in future games, but I love the mystery of link not talking.
Line work is inconsistent but there's some good thought put into this. The lines are just too thick in many parts. This happens when you are trying to get things done. For those that are hypercritical animation is intensely laborious and these will likely get better as the animators gain experience.
The promising part is that the couple action shots translate really well and future moments like that are likely to be fun. The dialogue is a bit corny as often happens in manga translations and it doesn't help that there was a snag or two in the pacing.
Voice actors are fine, in fact far above average for this sort of thing. For someone looking for a different voice: He sounds like a kid and is a kid in this game. At this point in the story he is a farmer. Get over it?
@__Link__
Exactaly!
@kukabuksilaks People like you is why Zelda fans are so close minded, just saying. Let Nintendo do it first, we judge later. I'm personaly tyred of muted characters.
@SirQuincealot Here we go again...
Link DOES speak, the games just don't show his dialogue, unless you have to chose an answer of course.
@RaphaBoss HIYA?
So, who else thought "Hey Edward elric" when they heard Link. while they aren't exactly the same, they are similar
@kukabuksilaks I think it is rather fitting. he is still fairly young. the only other fitting voice would be shulk from the Dubbed xenoblade which is a really good dub
@FlaygletheBagel
It was stated that this was based off of one of the Zelda AlttP mangas (specifically this one http://mangafox.me/manga/the_legend_of_zelda_a_link_to_the_past_himekawa_akira/). Cant blame them for the writing because they were sticking close to the source material for the most part.
@allav866 Cus they totally did that in the game. Feels faithfull enough to the game for me, even with the aghanim fight and the apple farming. I also liked the voice of link, he's not a hero yet so why should it sound "heroic"? Overall i liked it and i want to see more of it. That music though, sure made me want to give the game a go again.
I clicked it with high expectations, and my expectations were apparently too high so I wasn't impressed...But that's on me, I guess. This is pretty good for a fanmade animation. The lovely backgrounds are the best part. The voices were good, though the dialogue wasn't too interesting. I'm not crazy about the animation...Those thick, blocky lines, man. But they probably didn't have time to make all the animation look super smooth and polished. I know that stuff takes a lot of time. I'll look forward to the next part(Or parts?).
@RaphaBoss
You didn't read my post, did you?
I'm not against voice acting in Zelda games, I just don't want this voice for Link..
And no, I won't pass judgement before I actually hear the voice they're gonna use, if they're ever gonna do it at all.
@argol228
We all have different tastes, I didn't like this. I also wouldn't have liked it for Shulk or any other character, it just annoys me and I can't give any other reason than I already have. (Haven't played the dubbed Xenoblade so I don't know that voice, I'll look it up though because you made me kinda curious. )
That was pretty cool. I hope they do more.
Weak sauce.
Wow! Todd Haberkorn? I thought that voice sounded familiar...
@SirQuincealot Huyo.
@kukabuksilaks Good to read that.
Impressive. Very nice.
Wow. Pretty horrible on multiple fronts. Not that I was expecting better. Link is obviously going to have to speak in the translation to new mediums like this, but this isn't the answer to that problem.
I love it when people bash something they couldn't even begin to create themselves -_-
