We already new, it was footage of Nintendo Switch Direct after all. I haven't seen nothing extraordinary, even for Switch hardware. FPS are generally less taxing to the system, that's why it's easier to make them shine over a third-person action game, for example.
Hopefully Nintendo learned something about its past, few games at launch can be risky. Though it's true that it almost always favored new games in the launch window instead of ports. So for that timeframe I don't expect many ports, maybe just a few big ones from top japanese (Capcom, S-E, B-N), european (Ubisoft) and american (Microsoft) publishers. Maybe even Cyberpunk, to show the capabilities of the system. Switch (1) games will also keep it afloat.
I trust Nintendo. Since this will be the greatest launch of all time I doubt there will be shortages, especially in Europe. The higher cost will discourage some, plus the ample inventory, plus PS5 and Switch competition. It will break records, but I doubt it will sell out.
8. I was pleased, but eventually I have exaggerated. 😁
Anyway it's a confirmation: "Switch 1 is here to stay."
Nintendo will push Switch 1 in the low/mid end (199.99 to 299.99) and Switch 2 in the high end (399.99).
Risky business but, well...
Mario Kart 9 demo (NS2 teaser trailer) was pretty dry, hopefully the final product will be in a far better shape. Anyway they are right, the high price of the console will already discourage many, if it goes over 399.99 in Europe and in US it will definitely fail in the long run. I would eventually buy it, but the mainstream will say "no thanks, we are already satisfied enough with Nintendo Switch".
Major third party developers already have kits, that's a given. A June launch is probable, with both Nintendo and third party new games. Ports should follow later.
@mazzel I played the original and shelved it fast. Would not touch it with a stick, but I'm often picky, and definitely it wasn't whatvI was expecting from Chrono Trigger sequel.
Both an HD-2D Remaster and a proper remake. I suspect we will see something at next Nintendo Direct. But please Square forget about Chrono Cross, that was a terrible mistake, rstart from Chrono Trigger! Well hopefully they have restarted from Chrono Trigger.
Just develop it starting from Switch. Devs have no excuses. If you want to sell it on Switch start with targeting Switch and then improve it for other platforms, otherwise just avoid publishing it on Switch. Hopefully they will get poor reviews forcthe Switch version. Nintendo should be strict on quality assurance policy.
Nintendo Switch is a giocopedia. That's why Nintendo Switch 2 backward compatibility is key. Switch (especially 2, since it's going to take it forward) is the universal console.
I don't like (at all) the main character, but looks like a solid well done Donkey Kong Country inspired game. Eventually they should have really replaced the characters. 😬
Anyway, it's in my wishlist now.
@garfreek That's it. Look at what devs have done with Spyro Trilogy, that was a worthed remaster, this one isn't. They could have remade it from scratch. This, I'm sorry ti say it, looks like trash. Original stuff wasn't good stuff like Suikoden II, that one truly deserved a remaster, so they should have left it where it was or remade it. Devs too have a reputation to uphold.
@Anachronism Try this with a PC. First set a game with 720p low detail, then set 720p very high detail. You will notice much more detailed textures on the latter, even while outputting the same very low screen resolution.
@Anachronism There are no assets for 720p or 1080p. Assets are the same for every screen resolution. Assets detail a 3D world, while screen resolution is composed just by pixels populating a flat screen; upscaling techniques only affect those.
@KoopaTheGamer File sizes will definitely be a problem. It was already with PS4 and its 100+ GB games. This thing will have even more RAM for even richer worlds.
Tensor cores will be used to upscale the screen resolution or as utility, but I haven't seen examples, as today, as this technology used for utility role. Upscaling is what they do best, and they are few to be used effectively for other tasks (even exclusively for other tasks).
@KoopaTheGamer Yes, textures are already compressed, and with 12 GB available there is no need for textures upscalers (even a standard PS4 is already a power house on texturing), but I even doubt that Tensor cores would been able to be used with multiple roles, especially since they are so few (48 in Switch).
@Orpheus79V It shouldn't work like that. What the upscaler do is only upscaling the final image resolution from 540p or 720p to 1080p. The upscaler do not affect texture resolution. So a 2048x2048 pixel resolution stay that way both if you target a final image resolution of 540p or 720 (the upscaled to 1080p), texture resolution and final image resolution are unrelated. You always want the more defined texture resolution you can have, whatever the screen resolution.
@rjejr You miss the point, the Switch 2 is a portable machine, it simply lack the power to output to 4K. Maybe it would be able to do it with very simple games likebsome indies, but asking a 4K standard image from a portable is asking too much. It has also far fewer Tensor Cores than an nVidia 3050 GPU, it's simply not equipped for that.
@StewdaMegaManNerd It's because game assets (textures, shader programs, polygonal models, etc.) aren't linked with screen rendering resolution. The upscaling do not affect those but only the pixels sent out to the screen (the final image. Textures resolution, for example, doesn't change).
@Qwiff It has 4x the bandwidth of the Switch, I suppose it would be enough for 1080p standard games. AI upscale is there just to reserve bandwidth for even more complex operations, but Switch 2 shouldn't be bandwitdh starved... certainly less than Switch. It will surely help with third parties heavy portings, where any little resource can matter, but Nintendo can actually tailor their games for that specific hardware.
@Anachronism It has nothing to do with game assets, it's to relieve ROPs from their duty, pixel fill rate, etc. Also shaders shouldn't be wasted with upscaling techniques, like it is now with FSR3, nor memory bandwidth.
It shouldn't be nothing major, but it should upscale the output while retaining the best image quality.
Storage space shouldn't change, it has nothing to do with the screen resolution but with games assets (textures, etc.), though it's cool to have this feature, especially in a thermally constrained form factor like a portable console. More available resources to the GPU to render the best world it can (more shading power and memory bandwidth preserved). It sounds like the super optimized GameCube technology of old (against PS2).
Without a fan spinning it would be the perfectly silent definitive console. Powerful and eternal (still too big 😆). Unfortunately looks like only smartphones can do without a fan, these days.
Anyway, Nintendo Switch 2 gonna be the ultimate console: https://www.reddit.com/r/totallyswitched/s/JKugq9WRoL
I'm pretty confident that terrible design flaw has been corrected with NS2, with Hall Effect technology or by just reworking the old tech. Eventually they couldn't put all the right technology in that small Joy-Con and enlarged it also to be able to fix it.
@Solid_Python Because we can't know its hardware requirements, it depends on which systems (logic, graphics) developers are gonna implement on it. XBS and PS5 are safe bet, both are mainstream hardware, the PS4-level NS2 not really. It can happen, but MS has to say it.
May/June/July. Some markets could launch before others, but that's the window. Prepare your wallets (unless it breaks the 400 euros/dollars barrier 🤬).
If it's more than 399.99 it will fail in the market (compared to NS). But even at that price point it wont break the 100 million units sales because of internal competition: https://www.reddit.com/r/totallyswitched/s/Hsdd5KWB9y
Let's remember, first and foremost, that it's a toy, it just runs games. It must be taken into account.
Not a Nintendo news, for now. Or are you suggesting that Microsoft will unveil it for the new Nintendo system before their own? I think it should be considered an Xbox/PS rumor.
@Kraven In my opinion the market is the same. As a boy I bought many consoles, but it was one or the other, one at a time. Today, after giving my Switch to my children, I play with an Xbox SS, but I'll get rid of it for the Nintendo Switch 2 when it will launch. Pockets are the same, many can't afford multiple systems, other, like me, don't like to have multiple systems hanging around and replace them with a bew one from the same manufacturer or a different one. Console market is one, then some buy multiple consoles, many more just one. Then, there are definitely people favoring one brand over the other, some also because of their costly games library built over time. That's argument especially valid for digital libraries because they aren't resellable. Luckily I haven't bought a single game for Xbox, I didn't trusted Microsoft, but I bought games fir Switch, so it will be an easy jump this time. 😁
Xbox is no more, dead and done. Now Nintendo competition is PlayStation and Windows/SteamOS PCs. But if Nintendo will sell the Nintendo Switch 2 at low price there will be no chance for all. Five times more powerful than Nintendo Switch, with Nintendo games, integrated voice chat, long battery runtime, optical sensors and its exquisite hybrid nature. Nintendo Switch was already great, this new one is going to be perfect. But don't get the selling price wrong!
US economy will take another hit, beside videogames. T. administration started the whole inflaction bubble long ago, this is just a new poison injection. US became just the bad country that it was destined to be. No universal health coverage, people heavily indebted, a country that bullies other countries, even allies (that are moving away from it, see Canada and Europe), spying on everyone, supporting and partecipating on a genocide (Palestine), unable to contain China or Russia, and with a completely broken political system ran by oligarchs and technocrats that killed its free world and democracy values. US wont recover, people got distracted and raised as sheep, and they found their (evil) shepherd. Now it's all about stealing money and other resources from weaker countries in need (see Ukraine). The only lasting hope is the united Europe.
Prepare yourself already for a concomitant Switch 2 version with texturing and shading upgrades (hi-res, better lightning and shadows, etc). It's BOTW time again (yay).

Meh, well, fine for those having multiple consoles, and multiplayer, I suppose. Mario Kart will have an additional controller.
