Re: Review: Kamiko (Switch eShop)

Tetsuro

@nsmon25 I'm ok with a 7 if this gets a 6!
Clunky isn't the right word, it's technical. It's not flashy but it's good, and difficulty can be toned down.

This Kamiko could have been a good game in the eighties, now it's smartphone class.

Re: Review: Kamiko (Switch eShop)

Tetsuro

@zool It's a lottery! ^^

But King of Fighters '94 got a 7 because it was so vastly inferior to this 'gorgeous' game 'full of content', with equal price.

Meh. Just 'meh'

Re: Guide: Tips for Getting Started in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Tetsuro

Nintendo has trashed the online part of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I'm an experienced player, I have already finished this game at 150cc Gold.
Now if I play online I always get last or near.
Is it possible that a game aimed at all ages have became so challenging? When playing Mario Kart 8 on Wii U I finished generally 4th, sometimes win, etc. Now always last? Max 6th? Are all those players dragons? And steering assistance does not really change anything for me, maybe it do change for the others, I don't know. Though I know that I bought this for online especially and it's now trash. Not happy.
It's a mess. If I were a pigeon I would not saying anything, but I started with games far more challenging than this in my life.
All people became dragons... ok.

Re: Nintendo Download: 27th April (North America)

Tetsuro

@Indielink You can put it in context all you want but this is a Nintendo Switch, not a smartphone so that type of a game can't be reviewed better than a Fast RMX (that to me it's nothing more than a decent game that too, even if it cost only 20$).
I will not be displeased because I'm not going to buy it (even if it looks ok, pretty polished at least), but many buyers rely on reviews and those must be trustable.

Re: Nintendo Download: 27th April (North America)

Tetsuro

@Indielink I'm not happy about cheap decent games passed off as 'good' games. It's not right for the people that buy them and then get pissed off by a one hour decent 'retro' game.
I'm not against Kamiko, I just guess the reviewers aren't up for the task of reviewing.

Re: Nintendo Download: 27th April (Europe)

Tetsuro

I don't understand all the fuss about Kamiko. I already saw too much generous reviews, I'm not happy about that. Yes it cost a few bucks but it is very short and very cheap. I hope TumbleSeed will see some more interest because it looks more content rich.
I really feel bad to see Wonderboy have a score lower than that cheap game.

Tomorrow will buy Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, but still considering WonderBoy and TumbleSeed for the future. Shovel Knight at 25 it's too costly for a digital purchase in my opinion, I think I'll skip it.

P.S.: No TumbleSeed for us europeans (+english)?

Re: Nintendo Veteran Genyo Takeda Is Retiring As A Company Director

Tetsuro

That's bad, hope it gets replaced by valid people but he has so much expertise that it would be difficult, indeed.
Wii was technically risible but that Wiimote was cool (but Joy-Con is far cooler). I liked it, unfortunately I had to sell the Wii because of really bad graphics. On an LCD was a punch in the eye. Got an Xbox 360 instead, cool platform.

Re: Feature: The Growing Pains of Curation on the Nintendo Switch eShop

Tetsuro

Nintendo needs to be selective. It's about reputation with its customers. They should have not let that Vroom in their library, and so must pursue that path.
Axiom Verge is a decent game. It isn't shovelware but it isn't that good too, it looks cheap, it would be misunderstood by 80% of the gaming population so it's not something to cry for.
It has not the appeal of a Wonderboy or a Snake Pass.
Nintendo must ensure to not release bad software like Vroom in the future, those people that will buy it will be picky customers later and it's not good advertising for the platform.
It's also understandable that Nintendo want to privilege new software and old 'cool' software like Shovel Knight (that got a new episode as a time exclusive, let's not forget about that!).
Proceed as planned Nintendo and don't let Vroom(s) slip anymore.

Good article Thomas, but next time try to be more coincise and clear. Format it better.

Re: Review: Fatal Fury (Switch eShop / Neo Geo)

Tetsuro

@retro_player_22 Street Fighter vs. Fatal Fury is an unfair comparison because the first got released in 1987. So I instead compared Street Fighter II with Fatal Fury since they got released the same year.
Street Fighter II CE vs. Fatal Fury II is a fairer comparison. And Fatal Fury 2 wins that match in my opinion. Still Fatal Fury 2 was harder to play and less easier to make special moves.
It's what I was saying about the Special one, it had no story so it's wrong to call it Fatal Fury 2 Special. It was a remix like King of Fighters '98 and Real Bout 2 (both good to play though, still I would not choose them over '96 and the first Real Bout).
I do prefer beat'em up games with a story, they are more rounded.
The King of Fighters '94 wasn't a Dream Match edition, it got a proper story. It was a good game, still classic with high level difficulty and characteristic graphics. It changed for good though with the '96 edition that was the pinnacle of the serie in my opinion (better backgrounds, better music, more characters, still proper story, easier to play and easier to make special moves, cool bosses, characters redesigned but still cool, unlike Mark of the Wolves where they lost coolness).

Re: Review: Fatal Fury (Switch eShop / Neo Geo)

Tetsuro

@BezBot The classic Fatal Fury serie stop at Special.
So if you want to dig on classic: FF2 > Special > FF.
That's it. Wait for Fatal Fury 2. It's very good, really.

The new generation starts at Fatal Fury 3, it changes everything, from the graphics (more cartoonish) to the gameplay (faster and easier). Fatal Fury 3 is excellent.
Real Bout follow nearby Fatal Fury 3 (same family) and change furthemore its gameplay. Not for good, just different. 3 attack buttons instead of 4 and the fourth it's dedicated to plane switching.
You would like Fatal Fury 2, Fatal Fury 3, Real Bout Fatal Fury. Those are unmissable.

Garou: Mark of the Wolves is the the first and only episode in a completely new dress. Was it better than previous episodes? Not at all. It already showed the new path taken by SNK. I would say 'decadence'. Was it good? Sure, not like previous titles anyway.
It just got famous because got released in 1999. It's the game that said "SNK is dead". 1998 has been the last year of the good SNK and it has been a very good year: Blazing Star, Metal Slug 2, The Last Blade 2, King of Fighters '98, Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 got released. Latest two good but not unmissable.

Re: Review: Fatal Fury (Switch eShop / Neo Geo)

Tetsuro

It has not aged well, though 5 seems an insult. Admittedly Street Fighter II is better than the first iteration of Fatal Fury, but if this is a 5 than Street Fighter II (1991) can't be more than a 6.
This one still has the better story and a good bunch of cool fighters.
Fatal Fury II was then definitely better than Street Fighter II (1992) but more difficult, without touching difficulty level was more stressing.
Fatal Fury II was better than Special as a whole package, Special added characters and changed a bit the gameplay (faster) but it's wrong to assume it's an updated version, it's different. It got famous because it added characters but lost something through (the story first and foremost).
In fact it's not called Fatal Fury 2 Special but Fatal Fury Special, a sort of King of Fighters '98 edition (not better than '96, just different).

Re: Review: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch)

Tetsuro

@Kayfios What's the point on buying the 'new' game if everything is unlocked? Start from the beginning and have fun. Online content is all unclocked so just take the opportunity to have fun again in single player too. ^^

Re: Review: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch)

Tetsuro

Fair review, if it's perfect it deserves the 10. As for me, I never played the original so I'm happy to get it and benefit from the extras.
Continue to review software judging it by its own merit. Good job.

Re: Fast RMX Version 1.2 Is Now Live

Tetsuro

It's a decent game that deserved a 7 in your review and got a 9, with plenty design flaws, a few badly designed tracks and a lot of unbalance here and there, plus a poor netcode.
I liked it but a 'stand out title'... uhm.

Re: The FAST RMX Update Has Almost Crossed the Finish Line

Tetsuro

Hope they make it easier. I too have unlocked everything but my children have problems with it (on their accounts), and I have cursed a lot.
Accidents are the worse part of the game, plus the ZR/ZL mechanic (need an octopus), plus the R mechanic (why don't just leave Turbo on the ground and make a shield like F-Zero? Why double Turbo? F-Zero already got it right), plus unbalanced AI (stronger on some tracks). Decent game, 7 out of 10, but it could have been fairly better.

Re: Nintendo Download: 13th April (North America)

Tetsuro

@masterLEON Nice find, thanks. I completely missed that interview.

AI it's tougher in Samurai Shodown 2, but it can tweaked. At level 3 it's already easier, at level 2 it should be easy enough for everyone.
Samurai Shodown started to becoming less good after Samurai Shodown 2, that's the pinnacle of the serie. It was fast, it had splendid illustrations, nice characters and backgrounds, very good collisions and defence system. There were just less special moves and less easy to perform like a classic SNK fighting game.
Samurai Shodown 2 is one of the best fighting games ever, period. 4 unfortunately is not. I still haven't purchased any Neo-Geo title, though King of Fighter '94 is good (but then I'm waiting for '96 that I consider the pinnacle of the serie).

3 was similar to 4, gameplay already slowed down, a dark setting was introduced. I would not buy even that. Unengaging in my opinion.
1 was good, 2 better. 3 and 4 forgettable.

Re: Nintendo Download: 13th April (North America)

Tetsuro

No way I'm gonna get Samurai Shodown 4. Samurai Shodown 2 was very good but 4 wasn't that good, a big step back. Bigger characters and great animations can't make a game beautiful to play.
I'll wait for Samurai Shodown 2 and purchase that one.

Mr Shifty looked good but reviews are killing it. I think I will pass on it too.

Re: Fatal Fury Punches Onto The Switch eShop Next Week

Tetsuro

A true classic, it's my first game on Neo-Geo and I actually have beaten it at standard level (I remember it to be difficult).
Everything starts here but since I payed the original so much and played it so much I'll wait for Fatal Fury 3.
Though here there is lot of story and it's stll that good game of old.
