Re: Review: Garou: Mark of the Wolves (Switch eShop / Neo Geo)

@BionicDodo Reading is essential for understanding if the reviewer is credible or if it talks about fried air. If it's a victim of hype or a good reviewer.
It's obvious that a Neo-Geo fan already know what's good and what's bad by its own experience but it's still important to criticize where things are off. Though I understand that it's difficult to review such genre.
World is full of sheeps.

Re: Review: Garou: Mark of the Wolves (Switch eShop / Neo Geo)

Tetsuro

@BionicDodo If everything is an opinion nothing has value.
These characters are far worse than classics (Rock Howard is NOTHING, what is that? A mix of Terry and Kyo? Better Terry AND Kyo. Where are Benimaru, Billy Kane, etc. where are the charismatic characters? Hotaru Futaba is nothing compared to Mai Shiranui), it's a fact.
Music is mediocre at best, fact.
Animations are computerized instead of hand drawn, fact.
Backgrounds are mediocre, fact.

This game isn't bad, at all, it's just a decent game, and this review is completely off.

Re: First Impressions: Exploring a New Land in Ever Oasis on 3DS

Tetsuro

@Mii_duck Fair, but Ocarina is more of a trasversal game. It's actually very creepy. It's not childish at all.
While I do like colorful arts here it's really very childish, and enemies are a big letdown.
I do not dislike this game, I would not find it appealing to play myself, that's it.

Re: Review: Garou: Mark of the Wolves (Switch eShop / Neo Geo)

Tetsuro

9? Lol. All hype.
Undisputable high point... but PLEASE.
It's the work of a DEAD company, and it shows.
The cast is the WORST of the serie, without any charisma. Copycats.
Well, not a single word makes sense, I should stop quoting here, though I'm sorry to say it but this review is a joke. The worst I've read on this site.

Re: First Impressions: Exploring a New Land in Ever Oasis on 3DS

Tetsuro

It looks like a decent game for children but please... not for adults.
When I was a child I did play with the likes of Suikoden II that was on a completely different level. Breath of Fire IV, Final Fantasy VII, Ocarina of Time. Well I do not envy todays children (except that there are good games like Breath of the Wild, etc. and I hope so much on Octopath Traveler).

Re: Nintendo Download: 11th May (North America)

Tetsuro

@AJ81 Most hype since it's the latest 'Fatal Fury' (not sharing much of Fatal Fury though) but it's not one of the best, at all. You have to wait for the best (KOF 96, FF3, RBFF), though King of Fighters '98 is the most solid out there and King of Fighters '94 the toughest (though at level 2 is playable by anyone).

Re: EA Is Considering Bringing More Games to Nintendo Switch

Tetsuro

@Spoony_Tech EA IS the devil. And even if I'm considering to buy some games just for Bioware it is the worst gaming company.
They have not seen a single penny from me after Mass Effect 2, that serie was hard to skip but after they left Steam I said farewell.
It's unlikely I'm going to give money to THE evil company with the Nintendo Switch, though I can be tempted by one or two big games. Unlikely though.

Re: Playtonic Writer Reflects on Yooka-Laylee’s Performance

Tetsuro

@JohnGrey I definitely don't see this as a mediocre game, it just can't appease some people. Then they have to optimize it to make it shine, but I can't understand a vote under 7 for it (like the laughable Polygon review). It's definitely a game for kids, I'm not interested on it but I can't just bash it because it's not my cup of tea... It isn't bad nor mediocre, it looks decent with some faults. For some kids it will be definitely great, even with those weaknesses.
'Current year' isn't a valid argument, in fact WonderBoy got high votes, and Kamiko took underserved high ratings for a game that's near stupid. I can see that Kamiko as mediocre to decent (not bad).
It's not mediocre, just for kids, and some people have grown up.
Super Mario 64 is still top platforming in my opinion (THE top), and this Yooka is the same old collectathon that many still likes. As for me I NEVER liked it but understand that it's just about taste (and age).

P.S.: If developers don't fix technical issues for the Nintendo Switch release they will be just plain stupid.

Re: Playtonic Writer Reflects on Yooka-Laylee’s Performance

Tetsuro

@JohnGrey It can be that some platforms got it less optimized, though I have seen very good reviews on PS4 too, like this one below. I don't know if you find it fair, but he too found the camera no good while not overshadowing its pros.
Eventually the game just needs optimization, and certainly the developers are culprit for not releasing it in a fair state on those platforms. Though we are talking about Nintendo Switch here and if they will actually deliver an optimized game this time it should not be judged thinking at the past.

Just an excerpt from that PS4 review, tell me if it's unfair:

Pros:

  • Great and responsive controls.
  • Satisfying and sometimes challenging platforming.
  • Great use of moves to solve puzzles.
  • Progress is customizable as you can choose when to learn a move or move on to another world.
  • Massive and colorful worlds.
  • Hilarious and charming characters.

Cons:

  • Camera can get very irritating at some points.
  • Lack of threatening enemies.
  • Not exactly a very hard game.

Re: This Switch eShop Trailer for Thumper Should Get You Warmed Up

Tetsuro

It looks good, they have corrected the aim with this video. Previous one was dull. Now they could have actually done just a gameplay video to make it more understandable by people.
But Nintendo Switch actually need a rating system to make good games actually shine in favor of the bad ones in the eShop. Like Steam.

A star system (1 to 5) would be actually perfect.

Re: Garou: Mark of the Wolves Punches Its Way to the Switch eShop Soon

Tetsuro

Excellent WHAT? This is an overrated game, definitely not as good as Fatal Fury 3 or Real Bout Fatal Fury. Way below!
It had mediocre soundtrack, plasticky animations, bad art direction, etc. It was the new SNK that eventually sinked. Even Fatal Fury 2 was better than this. Still a decent game all considered.
Last Blade, Fatal Fury 3, Real Bout Fatal Fury, King of Fighters '96, Samurai Shodown II. Those are the 'excellent' beat'em up from SNK.

And I'm very unhappy that the Neo-Geo 'cream' does not show up on the Nintendo Switch (except Metal Slug, but while good it does not interest me like in the past).

Re: Review: TumbleSeed (Switch eShop)

Tetsuro

@rjejr That's what I do now, I lookfor difficulty level after a bad experience with Fast RMX. Then I unlocked everything but it was a pain and didn't enjoyed it so much. Mario Kart 8 is the exact opposite, too easy (still I enjoy it, except the online part that is too much randomy). A moderately difficult game like the last Zelda is good.

Re: Review: TumbleSeed (Switch eShop)

Tetsuro

Skipping, don't want to be stressed by a game, though thank you for the emphasis on the difficulty part. It would be perfect to have a 'Difficulty' entry (Easy/Moderate/Hard) in the Game Info, just after the Players entry maybe.

Re: Guide: Tips for Getting Started in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Tetsuro

@ACK Well single player is still somewhat good. There is nothing really to unlock, kart parts are only aesthetics. I don't get the 10 sincerely, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe fall short on many aspects. Though, while not perfect, it's still a great game.
This edition is the less hardcore, the Mario Kart for the masses, fine since is a port. Still happy to have bought it, I missed the one before.
I'm ok for nerfs and buffs of techniques, but they have really changed the field this time.

P.S.: I changed to gyro controls (without the wheel) and it seems even easier, Joy-Con sticks lacks precision unfortunately.

Re: Guide: Tips for Getting Started in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Tetsuro

@ACK I found the problem, now I'm cheating too and I am usually in mid tier (6th).
Still I think Nintendo destroyed online by making the game unfair, and I have found the culprits:
1. Assist steering made the weak better. In fact now I too use it and never fall or just take more risks since I'm rewarded. It added randomness.
2. Double items increases the crashes. CPU il less likely to pick them up, while humans strive for it. More randomness added, and sometimes even tops gets last if very unlucky.

So only top stay top since they have an advantage by knowing every technique plus every shortcuts (except if very unlucky), while normal drivers (like me) just can't prove their precise driving and gets mixed along with weak drivers and in the end it's about randomness.
No, I don't like this, I prefer the more fair single player mode where I disable everything and win just for my ability instead of 'no one can fall', 'no one can slow down if taking risks'.

They just f* online and it's not right to justify it. Tops stay tops, normals and weaks now are the same. If it's just luck how can it be fun?

Re: Guide: Tips for Getting Started in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Tetsuro

@ACK I tried any setup: balanced, speed, acceleration, etc.
I don't understand why since I'm experienced. I don't take shortcuts generally, I'm very clean in trajectories (worse results by using turbo after Drift/R), though I see many people doing zig-zag and having such good acceleration. And my kart seem so slow.
Also lot of times I get target 3 or 4 times in a row. It's a mess, single player is far more cleaner.
Point is: how are all those players so good when with the Wii U I generally got everytime in the first 4?
