March is upon us, and with the launch of Nintendo Switch now only 2 days away we've compiled a definitive list of games announced for the console, and more importantly their expected release dates. This list will be updated as new release dates are confirmed, so watch this space. You can also keep up to date directly from our games database. As before with 3DS and Wii U we've decided to separate out digital only eShop games into a new Switch eShop section of the website.

Wow that's a ton of games now. Naturally there is a large number of eShop games confirmed so far and E3 will likely be the time that we hear about more retail releases for Switch. We'll be updating this page constantly so we recommend you bookmark it and check back regularly.

Wow did i really see Pokemon switch in the list? Nice! And a new tales game cool.
Worst launch year in video game history, combined with a system that apparently has a lot of problems.
And people still believe that Switch will be a success. Unbelievable.
Constructor will be delayed: https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/5vack2/constructorhd_went_from_april_28_to_tba/
@Yasume
Virtual Boy wants a word with you >:3
More interested in picking up Puyo Puyo Tetris on April 28th than buying Mario Kart 8 again.
@Yasume
Those are pretty good list.
I found at least 7 or 8 titles that suitable for me.
I believe Switch will be success.
You will eat your words.
Several day 1 games in this list for me. Just need to see some Capcom news regarding Monster Hunter and I will be all set.
@Folkloner It's cute that you believe that Xenoblade 2 and Yooka-Laylee are coming out this year.
Mario Kart 8 is the same game and Splatoon 2 is a clone of the first game based on the footage. A rehash.
Zelda is on Wii U
Mario is the only worthy exclusive this year. It's not enough.
I've considered cancelling pre-order. Feel like once again pre-ordering a promise.
Wow.. Street Fighter doesn't even have a release date yet. Lame
@Yasume don't be such a downer teen/grumpy old man.
Any new games console release is always an exciting time. Even if you don't plan on getting one, new systems are always good news for everyone, much better than no games industry and our hobby being officially over lol
Dat Pikmin (Tentative Title)
So snipperclips is confirmed launch day for US as well?
Where is Smash Bros for Switch? Waiting on this so that i can get my Cloud Amiibo (sorry i maybe repeating myself, but i need that Amiibo) it was being delayed until the "NX" (as it was then) was confirmed.
@Yasume Don't straw man me. Your point was that Switch has the worst first year lineup in video game history - and that's demonstrably not true.
@Yasume Not everyone owns a Wii U. Very few people do, in fact. If you look at it from that perspective, the first party lineup is quite good.
Also, Splatoon 2 is no more a clone than, say, later games in the Call of Duty or Mario Kart or Uncharted franchises. The core gameplay is still there, but a ton of other stuff was changed like the maps, story mode, weapons etc etc.
There's a possible 15 games i'll be playing on that list.
Now if they can get a main series Pokemon instead of a spin off then that would help sales.
@Yasume Xenoblade is a funny one because it's been touted as "2017", but most likely only in Japan this year. As for Yooka-Layee, I don't see why that won't be out this year.
Proper excited for Zelda, bomber man, arms, Mario kart, streetfighter, sonic mania, fire emblem warriors and Mario odyssey.
Yooka laylee, racing rmx, Celeste, battle princess Madelyn and the wonder boy remake also look interesting 🤔
@Yasume Sorry you feel like that but I'm pretty confident Yooka Laylee will be out this year on switch. Xenoblade chronicles 2 however I agree with. I honestly don't see this coming out (at least in the west) this year. As far as worse launch year, that's crazy lol. There have been far worse ones than this.
I never had a WiiU so really looking forward to picking up a switch
@Operative2-0 it's not actually, I've just switched it back to 'March' but think it will get confirmed very soon.
@Yasume
Not enough ?!
I still happy even just 7 or 8 titles for first year.
Are you expecting 100+ WOW OMG titles for first year ? Dream On... !
@Moneyjaypr7 we just made the same comment great minds...
How did Pikmin get on the list? Has anyone mentioned a Switch Pikmin game? I know the next Pikmin game was nearly complete September 2015 but for all we know that's now on 3DS. Also Pikmin 3 was supposed to be a Wii U launch title but it didn't release until the following August, so even if they did announce Pikmin on Switch tomorrow I'm betting 2018 the earliest.
Wii U launch line-up if anyone is interested.
http://www.ign.com/wikis/wii-u/Wii_U_Launch_Games_(US)
I'd say it's about 10x better. Though I'd also prefer the above list to denote retail vs. digital only games as most people buy systems for retail games and the download games are stuff they play after getting a console for the retail games.
There have been much worse launch line ups over the years, the original ds, Saturn, dreamcast, 3ds, ps2 (had a terrible launch line up for such a good selling system) were all awful.
Wii, game cube, n64, original Xbox all had one or two amazing system sellers but had very few launch games.
In reality the launch line up isn't too bad.
"Worst launch in history, Nintendo is doomed." Here's a thought, why don't you wait till later or Christmas to see the game library climb to this level.
Oh man. 17 "wants" there certainly ten definites.
I noticed Pikmin - Proper version or platformer I wonder ?
To whom it may concern. Who would bother commenting on a fan site such as Nintendolife to communicate negative words about Nintendo where the fans can read if you hate Nintendo period? It'll be interesting to see what happens first, the onslaught of Nintendo fans replying to you or the modified block/boot from Nintendolife themselves.
@Anti-Matter me too and I am the kind of gamer who buys Zelda and some other two or three games that I find really interesting.
@Sir_funkington the truth !
@Yasume
"Worst launch year in video game history".
I'm just stating this in a matter-of-fact way, I'm not trying to be aggressive, but you have a terrible grasp of video gaming history.
@jswhitfield8 PS4 gets jabbed with "NO GAEMS" memes to this day which I guess must mean that those 60 million buyers so far have all just needed a Netflix machine badly. There will always be complaints from someone - it's what we do best.
@Yasume Why troll here?
The line up looks quite amazing actually. A lot to choose from.
Nintendo were doomed with the virtual boy, then they were doomed when the n64 was using cartridges.
They were next doomed when the game cube didn't sell as well as the ps2. Then the ds with its wacky 2 screens.
I believe the next major dooming was the 3ds then the wiiu not selling enough and the most recent being the switch, which I'm sure will doom us all, lol
Can anyone think of anything I've missed?
@Sir_funkington You should add in doomed because the Wii had those remote control like things instead of real controllers.
People actually believed that would doom the Wii before it's launch.
Great post by the way, I got a good laugh.
@Yasume really the worst launch year? That's crazy, open-world Zelda, brand new core Mario game, fire emblem warriors, splatoon 2, new Ip arms and snipperclips, Mario kart 8 deluxe, Bomberman r, a brand new and solid party game, along with a lot of good third party titles. You're expecting too much for launch year. Ps4 and Xbox one both had 1-2 good exclusives their first year, the rest of the games were on 360, ps3 or PC, a lot of the games stunk too. The following year saw games release with tons of bugs. For two years after their release people were saying next Gen is arriving next year. We got a ton of remasters of 360 / ps3 games. Ps4 is only now having a good momentum in game releases, 3 years later.
2018 will be great
Calendar for me....
Launch day/March - Zelda, Fast RMX, Shovel Knight, World of Good, Human Resource Machine, possibly Snake Pass
April - Lego City, Puyo Puyo Tetris, MK8
May - Disgaea 5
Also interested in Rime, Yooka-Laylee, Splatoon 2, Sonic Mania, Redout, Monster Boy and of course Mario.
Not bad at all.
I waiting for super Mario odyssey boxed limited edition with flying hat amiibo.
pc screenshot
Wasn't The Silver Case coming out for Switch, or did I just imagine that?
I'm so happy that Snipperclips is day one. I'll finally have a game my gf will play, even if only for a few days.
@the8thark that's true lol, I remember the scriptures of the Internet dooming the Wiimotes all those years ago.
@Sir_funkington don't forget the nerve they had to even think they could sell video games in a country two years fresh off a "great video game crash". XD
Virtual Boy was their only real failure IMHO; I can't help seeing Wii U as a relative one by industry standards at most. Sure, it's disappointing to go from 100 million sales to 13 million sales, limited third party support (not that Nintendo hadn't experienced it before) and a much sparser library, but outside of that, 13 million is more than my whole country's friggin' population, so I can't see it as a number to sneeze at. And it still gave birth to a number of classics.
Nintendo has dominated three video game generations out of the six it's been a major player in (I count G4 as SNES reportedly did outsell Genesis by their lifespan's end, and they had been as good as tied before that), all to the tune of "It's the End of Big N As We Know It" smash hit.
@the8thark Judging by all the "(at)Yasume" responses, I think your question has been answered- attention.
@Yasume The 3DS would like a word with you.
@UK-Nintendo
Wait, is that custom Mario Amiibo ?
@Yasume
Worst commenter in video game history lol.
Need a tissue to wipe away the tears?
@antdickens Lol agreed .
There's 5 or 6 games in there for me. There's a lot of games, but not many heavy hitters. Which, I'm ok with. I'm swamped with PS4 games and my XB1 S has got a few too. 5-6 games is about all I can handle.
@Sir_funkington Nintendo have been doomed since the Blue Blur first appeared in the early 90's.Near 3 decades now.I don't think we'll ever know a time again that they're not doomed.It will always be "their next console will be their last".
Wasnt Yooka Layley confirmed for digital release in April? Or was that just for backers?
@jswhitfield8 sad how kids troll so much, I bet he/she doesn't even have the money to buy the games he wants but wants more before the system is out! Lol smh
@Anti-Matter yea
@Yasume You obviously didn't buy a launch 3DS!
No monster hunter game?! What?!
Zelda botw for wii u and switch maybe Christmas 2017.. one big maybe
@rjejr Nice link though I'll be happy with continuing digital-only Nindie support if it's done right/at the right price. One thing about the poor Wii U is that it really taught me to appreciate the smaller games.
Paid off my pre-order of Zelda, Switch and pro controller today by trading in a whole stack of Wii U and 3DS games (kept the ones I might want to replay). Still have £65 credit, still have my consoles and favourite games. Maybe I could have got more by selling the games myself but it's a lot of hassle. I'm very happy as it is.
@Sir_funkington The Dreamcast had one of the strongest and most interesting; launch lineups in the history of gaming. Still considered to be amongst the best. Smoke less before posting.
It was also a record-breaking launch putting up record numbers for the entertainment industry as a whole, not just video games.

I hadn't heard of Old Time Hockey, but is looks great...like NHL '95 with a Baseball Stars twist. Looking forward to Zelda, AMRS, Spl2n, MK8+ and other obvious titles, also excited for RMX, Redout and Steep.
yooka laylee is being aped, and not in the escaped way.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAKp2Fe6g6c
lotsa swearing in the vid btw.
Oh that is a few more day ones than I planned on. Oh boy... time to pay off some more on the credit card.
That is a load of games slated for 2017. No way I'll be able to afford everything i want.
Comments from Yasume almost always make me wish upon a star for a mute/block button to use here.
It's obviously your world (first world) and we're all just living in it.
@Yasume So not accurate. Maybe not as good as other launches, but far superior to the Wii U and 3DS (they both had next to nothing their respective years).
I usually buy around 5-6 games a year, but I already know I am purchasing Fire Emblem Warriors, Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2, Skyrim, Rime, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Super Mario Odyssey. Plus, there are other games that hold my attention like Arms, Snipperclips, Super Bomberman R and Project Sonic. I am sure there are unannounced games for the summer-holiday season as well.
It's okay. I'll wait for Mario though. That game is going to be incredible.
I was wondering does anyone know if Shovel Knight is download only or is there gonna be a boxed version available.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_game_console_launch_games
To end all this worst launch business one way or another. Above, I humbly present...the facts.
The list wil be updated so stay tuned. More to come
I've been reading some of the first preview articles on the Nintendo Switch hardware and I can say it definitely is getting some great reviews and raves the articles I read on Forbes, Endgadget, Time and Kotaku all called the system sleek, sexy, magical some even went as far as saying Nintendo has created something special again ., so far there is alot of really good feedback for Switch, I'm glad I got that preorder after all I'm getting excited and the games list keeps growing every week.
I would get a Switch just for having Waku Waku 7. Not a bad list of games, just needs more western 3rd party games besides Rayman and Just Dance. Hopefully that will change soon.
I think this is a great list of games (especially given the system isn't even out yet). Alot of them appeal to me... greatly. And every game on the list appeals double time thanks to the hybrid hardware.
I'm back, NLers!
[reads article]
Line up is ok but nothing there to make me buy it on launch I love my wiiU play it nearly every day so I'm getting Zelda for that. Shame there's no big third party upcoming games (apart from FIFA) games like call of duty which wiiU had at launch as well as mass effect and would of been nice to see battlefront & battlefield not much there to get the kids that play these games to get mom and dad to get them a switch and give up there PlayStation's and xboxes
Is Shovel Knight download only? I think its awesome that the new updated content is Nintendo Switch timed exclusive.
I've not read all of the comments but I believe the charming Snipperclips has now been confirmed by Nintendo as a launch title, bringing the world back on its axis following Binding of Isaac's push towards a tentative march release
@Yasume I don't get this 'clone' claim about Splatoon 2. New maps, all new guns and a whole new weapon class, all new specials, a new single player campaign and new customisation options. That's more difference than most games get between their releases.
@Gen0neD
Birds of a feather my friend. I'm getting killed with games for my PS4, I mean doesn't match usually signal a slow period? Lol
I see 6 games on that list that I definitely will buy, another 5 that interest me, and 3 others I know nothing about, but will keep my eye on. 14 games mean more than 1 a month. Exactly how many games do people need to have?
There is no Pikmin game coming out on Switch. The only Pikmin game coming out is the one on 3DS.
@Romeo-75
I also read the kotaku and Engadget reports and I'm pleased. I never considered canceling my preorder, but it's nice to read some positives. The world is so negative, video games are my escape.
I don't mean no one should have complaints. I've voiced a few here myself. Big picture I think the Switch is a wonderful machine packed full of potential. Here's to hoping Nintendo uses every bit of it. 👌🏾
@Yasume
You do realise that the launch lineup is wayyyyyyyyyy better than the ps4 had in it's first year. what did it have; madden.......fifa........knack........Infamous second son.
And You Can say that Mk8 deluxe And splatoon 2 are basically the same game with tiny graphical increases I can say the same thing about call of duty where the graphics have barely changed and the only new thing is The setting. And worst launch ever.... Have you even LOOKED at previous launches, Sega Saturn, N64, Jaguar, PS2 had a lack of good games until late 2001.
Lots of games! But I'm hoping some big AAA titles get released. It's old now but I would live GTA V would be awesome on the Switch.
Project Fist was canceled almost a year ago.
If we cant get any Hockey games how about Bringing the NHL series to sega genesis VC. Those are the best ever anyway
@Tsusasi
That's not the Dreamcast's launch though, that's it's launch in the West which was nearly a year after its actual launch in Japan. It's real launch line up was Virtua Fighter 3, Godzilla, Pen Pen Tricelon and something called July that I've never heard of.
Only less than AAA titles ?
@Yasume I agree ! I used to be the same until I bought my Xbox and PS4 ... I regret wasting my time with my Wii U ... yet my 3DS still my top fav console ever and the PS4 comes after
@BiasedSonyFan So how about you don't pretend you know a damn thing and stop being an insulting troll. How about that?
If you are referring to the Dreamcast launch, it's not my opinion. It industry opinion.
As someone who owns damn near every mainstream and mainstream adjacent system and has been playing systems from nearly every console manufacturer and games from nearly every software developer across pretty much every genre, calling me in any way narrow or biased is insanely uniformed and ridiculous. I cut my teeth on pong and games on the Apple II/IIe and VIC20 and C64 and have been 'console' gaming from the Pong clones forward. An objective and industry view of the launch, coupled with sale figures from launch bear out my statements. What is your damage?
@electrolite77 But we are in a different era now - the global launch. And the western launch was - truly - the only launch that really mattered for the system. AND we are comparing western launch lineups.
@Shellcore
Yeah, and that doesn't even include every console ever. Some UK Gamers may remember the Amstrad GX4000, which launched in late 1990 with one game (Burning Rubber, packed in with the machine). Not only was it a dreadful launch, it was a dreadful launch year as within less than 12 months it was dead and its entire catalogue (about 25 games it's reckoned) published.
@YeshaYahu5417 Unfortunately, a major portion of the comments on this site are from people who really seem to either hate Nintendo or just love trolling Nintendo fans. I think they leak over from the PlayStation site or something.
@Tsusasi
The poor Japanese launch doomed it over there though, so it was pretty significant. I agree the Western launch was great and superior to the Switch launch but (pedant hat on) it wasn't the actual launch.
As a side note global launches are one of the great things (among the many bad things) about modern gaming. In a way I'm nostalgic for poreing over blurry screenshots in games magazines and waiting for months and months to get my hands on an official machine. But not really, that's just being nostalgic for my teens!
I'm going to wait until after E3 and E3 adjacent Directs and Treehouse events before I pass judgement on 'launch window' releases or this year's line-up. It could very well be that the deafening silence we are getting now is Nintendo trying to save some fire and magic for E3/Post E3 events so that they have something left to shout over everyone else's big reveals.
I would bet most of the (tentative) big games will be significantly delayed. I mean, Xenoblade Chronicles X was announced in Jan. 2013 and came out in Dec. 2015, 3 full years later.
I'm pretty sure some of these big game won't be seen until 2019.
I wonder what this list will look like by E3...?
Certainly not a bad lineup. It's probably smart that Nintendo spaces releases out like this. Zelda, Mario, Splatoon, and Pikmin all in one year? Fantastic!
@Yasume You're not looking at this right. Not many will get Zelda on Wii U besides people who already had one in the first place, that's a small install base. Most people will just be going to the Switch for BotW, especially mainstream consumers and the mass of people who skipped out on the Wii U. Add Splatoon 2, the sequel to the game that somehow generated great success on an under-performing console and the first REAL 3D Mario we've had since Galaxy? This is a pretty good launch for the system all in all. A lot better than the launch of the Wii U, PS4, and XBOX ONE.
There's plenty of decent games, but not much is tempting me to get a Switch before Super Mario Odyssey.
Believe me I AM so so excited and am buying this day one but... I'm still hoping that bigger games come to the switch because most of these are indie titles (which are good) but these are not system sellers... cries
Not a terrible list but certainly not one that says "OMG I have to buy the switch DAY 1!". At least for me anyway.
The ones I find really interesting are, blaz blue, Blaster master zero, Fire emblem warriors, Xenoblade 2, Super Mario Odyssey, shin megami tensei. Out of these only two are confirmed for this year. The others are TBA or are likely to be delayed. Especially Xenoblade 2. Later this year at that. So I'll be getting a switch later this year
@BAN For sure obviously. Lots from Gamefaqs I noticed..
Nice list, but adding labels distinguishing which games are available in a physical format would be even more helpful.
what a long list of games. i am glad that i already know which games i am going to purchase. super Mario, Mario kart, platoon, legend of Zelda, Pikmin, and two others.
Zelda, Shovel Knight, and Fast RMX on launch day for me.
@Tsusasi Europe wasn't as privileged
European launch: October 14, 1999
Blue Stinger
Dynamite Cop
Expendable
Incoming
Pen Pen TriIcelon
Sega Rally Championship 2
Sega Bass Fishing
Sonic Adventure
Toy Commander
Virtua Fighter
Soul calibur, trick style, rainbow six, mk, hydro thunder and house of the dead and others all absent.
To be fair tho it was a reasonable launch. I picked up sonic adventure, sega rally and power stone.
My original post was from memory, not a quick and dirty google.
I don't smoke, but love the comment, very classy
@Tsusasi that American launch line up would have probably bankrupted me
wow i'm going to need a bigger sd card! this is going to be a great year!
Well, there are definitely no must-have exclusives so far. I'll just hold on to my money and keep waiting.
@Yasume I'm not sure your words can be taken seriously since you seem to be wrong on a lot of points.
"The Switch has barely any games on it."
@Yasume i hate to be mr. picky here, but i disagree with the "Mario is the only worthy exclusive this year. It's not enough." snipperclips, Arms, Snake Pass (even if thats not exclusive), Fire Emblem: Warriors, Super Bomberman R, theirs so many too look forward to playing on the switch.
I don't want to come across as a mad fanboy but I'm pretty happy with the launch. I will be getting: Breath of the Wild, Fast RMX, Snipperclips and Shovel Knight at launch.
Tempted with World of Goo/Human Resource Machine/Little Inferno to play on the train. Hopefully they will be cheap.
Also probably picking up a physical copy of 1-2-Switch for the house (my daughter is also getting a Switch) mainly for crazy kid parties. I suspect I'll be hassled to buy Skylanders too.
My wallet is ready!
guess someone got their fair share of attention today
People if u find the Switch to be lackluster then cancel your preorder or don't buy it at all and spare us reading your comments. Thanks!
@Sir_funkington I'm classy af.
@Sir_funkington I worked at Software Etc part-time while in design school during the launch, so I got some great discounts... otherwise it would have damaged me as well.
@JamesR Honestly after waiting for three years to play Breath of the Wild, I think that is a sufficient launch for me because I will play that games for hours upon hours. Maybe that's not the case for some people, but we only know some games right now. I think it's more important that Nintendo gets on board with the virtual console and the fans and 3rd party devs than try to stack their launch lineup. I think as time goes on once Switch establishes itself, the Nintendo games will come along.
@BiasedSonyFan That was one hell of an ignorant rebuttal. It's - as stated - opinion supported by facts, douche nozzle.
To even challenge this confirms your solid status as a troll... along with your tag - BiasedSonyFan. And in typical troll fashion, you leave half of my statement hanging out there unaddressed.
I will be enjoying my Switch... with every game and multiple controllers including a couple of pro controllers... and pretty much every essential accessory available at launch. I planned ahead and made sure to be up in the middle of the night for go time. Got everything I wanted. But I also have the luxury of being able to play an amazing array of amazing classic games on their original systems with their original controllers as intended.
So enjoy your inane and inaccurate rants... I got it all on lock. Mine, mine and mine.
How about you?
So those that do have a switch pre ordered, what are people picking up on launch day?
Ive got Zelda (obviously lol), bomber man and an extra pair of neon joycons on order.
@jswhitfield8 I agree with you. Nintendo has become no better than the other consoles.
I'm keeps ng my WiiU , Playing Zelda on that and Mass effect and other third party games on my Xbox. not worth getting a switch at launch, or even this year.
@electrolite77 The Dreamcast actually sold pretty well at launch since the Virtua Fighter series was pretty popular in Japan, plus it's out of the box online capabilities was intriguing for many consumers. Sales were fine for the Dreamcast in Japan up until Sony announced the PS2, which offered DVD playback. After that Dreamcast sales started to slump.
@BiasedSonyFan Calm down. He's right about the American Dreamcast launch being one of the best launches of all time. The combination of clever marketing and great game line up made it a best seller in late 99'. It's considered by many to be the best because of it.
I will for sure be picking up Zelda, MK8, Odyssey, Splatoon 2, Lego City, Rayman, and probably Shovel Knight and Fire Emblem Warriors. Thinking about Arms and Yooka-Laylee.
Pretty good launch year I'd say, especially for the amount of time I'll be getting from Zelda, Mario Kart, Splatoon, and Lego City. Now all I need to do is find a Switch in the first place!
Once they confirm Pokémon, Animal Crossing, and a possible Smash 4 port, the Switch is sure to be a success. I think that Sm4sh will be out by holiday and will be announced at E3.
@TreasureFan
I thought they were well below forecast after a few months? Or was that stock shortages rather than lack of demand?
@BiasedSonyFan The Dreamcast (alongside its eighteen launch games and accessories) took in $97,904,618.09 USD on the first day of launch in North America[16], and sold 514,000 machines in the first two weeks[17], nearly 400,000 of which were in the first four days. Sega were quick to point out that $97 million is more than Star Wars: The Phantom Menace brought in its opening weekend (roughly $65 million)
Over a million machines were sold in North America in just over two and a half months (according to Peter Moore, the milestone was reached on Tuesday 23rd November[19]). This meant the Dreamcast was the fastest selling video games machine in North America of all time.
Roughly 2.5 million Dreamcasts were thought to have been sold in the US by March 31st, 2000[9]. Within five months of launch, the Dreamcast held roughly 20% of the US video game market[23].
Mid-2000 saw the hardware to software ratio for the Dreamcast at a respectable 8:1].
@electrolite77 It was mainly stock shortages in the early months after it's launch in Japan, that caused it's demise. The PS2 just put the final nail in the coffin. Some analyst argue if the Dreamcast had held on to the Japanese market a bit longer, the Dreamcast could have survived the sixth generation, although fiercely competing with the more graphically capable Gamecube in third place. Then again that's just speculation.
@TreasureFan Yup. The chipset manufacturer wasn't able to produce at projected levels. I think it was around 30% of projected output, but definitely less than 50%. And I think most of the initial units sold were already preordered, making things worse. They were sold out BEFORE the launch, basically.
@BiasedSonyFan wow. As long as nintendos making money that's all that matters.
You sound like a obsessive fan of nintendos
Has snipperclips been confirmed for us launch? I saw tgat it was for eu, butvword for us was hush hush
@Yasume
I'm sorry, but in what way is a brand new Zelda, snipper clips, a brand new Mario, a new Splatoon, Mario Kart 8 and many, many more "the worst line up"? Even looking at Nintendo platforms, what did the DS have in its first year? Rub Rabbits? How about the 3ds, which had a terrible first year? And the 360 launched with what, exactly? Like 6 games? The most remarkable of which was Kameo? This kind of unwarranted negativity is more than welcome to be somewhere away from this site if that's all you're going to bring to it.
@Xaessya Virtual Boy had better launch games.
@BiasedSonyFan You're a tad thick between the ears, aren't you. Not once have i been sucked into your feedback loop. I have addressed the Dreamcast launch based on facts and its merits. You are having a dicussion with yourself apparently.
@Yasume Anyone who puts more then ten minutes into Splatoon will see that is clearly a sequel; I'm so tired of hearing people make this argument when they most likely never played the game or gave it a chance.
Splatoon 2's includes:
New maps
New weapons
New specials
New story mode
New hub world
Voice chat
Great list! Can't wait for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, Sonic Mania, Sonic 2017, and Super Mario Odyssey!
@Tsusasi That's a very misleading list. The Dreamcast launched in November 1998 in Japan with only 4 games. It released 10 months later in the US, that does not make the library 10 months into the system's lifespan its launch lineup.
Holy cow, have you guys seen video for Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap???
This game came out of nowhere. It was just another anonymous name on the long list of Switch titles, but good grief does this game look slick!
Seriously google it and watch some gameplay. Looks excellent (a lot of incoming games look excellent, this one just caught me by surprise). Hollow Knight looks slick also, but I kickstarted that one.
@Dr_Lugae Those were the days where it took a year or two to bring consoles out of Japan and into western markets. It's not like today where we have simultaneous releases in each region. Back then it took time to localize games and systems, now it's much easier.
It's not misleading, that's like saying the NES launch list was misleading even though it had 2 years worth of games in it's library when it launched in the US.
This is a great lineup. Can't wait to see what Platinum Games has in store for the Switch. I wonder if they're busy working on Bayonetta 3 or maybe reworking Scalebound for Switch.
Also, what the crap does Retro Studios have up their sleeves?
@Koudai1979
picture uploading
@JaxonH lol it looks good
@Koudai1979
I bet it's going to be top shelf gourmet course... and given Tropical Freeze released in early 2013 (and they themselves said they started working on their next game the December prior), we can safely assume that dinner is almost ready to be served
Hopefully I'm wrong about this but there is no way that the new Shin Megami Tensei game is going to come out this year. It won't come out til summer 2018 at best.
Personally, I'm fine with what's coming out. Given what games are coming out, Christmas will be a good time for consoles.
I think Nintendo is holding some for a new N Direct. To set the hype train on fire.
I'm hoping the virtual console options fill in the list with a Mario or two. There doesn't seem to be much in that vain otherwise. We already know we'll be waiting most of the year before the Odyssey. And why does Rayman have to be on the TBA list? Are they adding so much to it that it needs more development time? They've released it on so many systems they should be have the porting process down pat by now.
Another thing I'd like to see, especially since the Switch seems like a good system to handle it, is a Katamari game. Even a port of Katamari Forever would do. It's always seemed like a franchise that would be right at home on a Nintendo system, and it doesn't seem to be a complete PS exclusive since the Xbox game came out. I won't hold my breath though, since it's not likely to be thought of as a hot property.
@Yasume Better than N64.
Not the best list, but I think there will be more games announced during E3. Fingers crossed 🤞
@Yasume more then ps4 and xbone in the first year
For a company that had been pretty much pulling back on Wii U support since 2015 and the 3ds since 2016 given all the ports I'm shocked the Switch line up is so mediocre. Wonder what Nintendo has been doing in the past 2 years, there should've been at least another key Nintendo IP available a time launch and it seems they're repeating the same 1 new game every 2 months or so like the Wii U. Call me jaded but this is rather concerning
@Sir_funkington
I'm getting Zelda, 1-2 Switch (for family and parties), and a couple eshop games (Snipperclips and Fast Racing Neo)
@BiasedSonyFan You just answered your own question. The games that came out were great and sold well. It's not rocket science.
I'm gonna need Neo Geo to happen to America sooner.
Of the March/April releases I'll be getting Zelda BotW, I am Setsuna, Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, Fast RMX, World of Goo, Little Inferno, Human Resource Machine, LEGO City, & MK8 DX. There are several more listed coming later that I'm interested in, too.
Nice, makes me feel bad I'm not getting a switch until I'm guessing the holiday? Anyway I will be getting BotW Wii U next friday with the dlc
@TreasureFan
Yeah speculation of course but Sega did a lot right with Dreamcast, it would have been interesting to see how long it would have lasted if they had the funds to support it longer (and had been able to put a DVD Drive in). Unfortunately their previous few years of failure and corporate arrogance had let the pot run dry. Shame as they'd clearly learned a lot going from the Saturn which is a case study in what not to do to the Dreamcast which is a textbook example of how to launch a console.
I'm hoping Nintendo have learned similar lessons from their Saturn, the Wii U. They didn't lose as much money as Sega in the 1990s and if Switch fails it won't send them under but it was easily as big a flop as Saturn caused in the main by Nintendos mistakes. The Switch launch lineup and missing features don't necessarily show it but the design and concept is much clearer and their marketing has been a big step up.
@Dr_Lugae I'm going to pretend that you aren't actually serious and that you don't think posting a freakin' ACTUAL AND FACTUAL launch title list for the region that I am drawing a comparison to is misleading. Please tell me that's not what you are saying. I'm begging you. I can't take any more of this ridiculousness.
@Dr_Lugae And yes... yes it does - IN FACT - make it it's freakin' launch title freakin' list. It LAUNCHED in the west 9/9/99... you see, things were different back then and launches were regional. Each region had it's launch title list. Even now that's true, regardless of the date. It's only misleading if you don't know what a regional launch is. If you don't understand that a $100 million dollar marketing campaign is a launch. You can call it a 'release' or a birthing or vomiting or whatever you want. It's all the same thing.
And again... I am comparing the Switch's launch window titles in NA to the Dreamcast LAUNCH titles in NA. Apples to Apples... it's just global now.
This is so freakin frustrating...
@JaxonH Yes! I love this! 8 Bit mode is a sweet touch. This certainly feels like a labor of love.
@JaxonH
Wow. Wonder Boy looks great. Exactly the kind of thing I want on the Switch.
@Yasume A game is a game. They all matter and they all count. If you have to make a herculean goal post moving effort for you argument to make any sense, you've lost. Even if Xenoblade does eventually get delayed, you can't assume that now. Yooka Laylee will definitely release this year, that's just sensible.
@Yasume You let a Giggi get on your head didn't you?
(Inside Joke)
@DBPirate There won't be a Switch to get if they confirm a Pokemon title.
@Rontanamo_Bay Preach brother, PREACH!
@Yasume
@Aslanmagic fast racing neo looks ace, I'm kinda intrigued by sniperclips but not sure, one I'll keep an eye on tho. Can't wait for the reviews to start to drop to get a general feel for games like that. Exciting times over the next few weeks lol
@Yasume Consoles in general have slow launches. I see multiple games on here I want, which is multiple more than the Wii U had.
@Yorumi What the...? Yorumi, actually being positive?! Have the stars aligned or something?
Anyways, Pikmin and Pokemon should not be on here. They're almost entirely speculative.
That's ALOT of games in the first year! Plus we don't know what else may come out after E3 ... The launch list is great and better than most over the years. On that list there's about 9 titles I definitely want so that's perfect and I'll play others that I will borrow off my mate and a few other people. Including myself I know at least 30+ people who are getting a Switch so it's all great 6 days!!!
@Yasume then don't buy it and shut up?
I'm so glad you published that list on here. It was very reassuring. I'm feeling all the more positively certain that I never want that system! Just think of all the other awesome things I can buy with the money I will save by not buying that thing! 😀 Yay!!
So that's 14 launch titles, and much more for Japan.
And people say the Switch launch line up is thin.
@Yasume I assume you have difficulties counting to 14,as that's how many launch titles the Switch has in the West (much more in Japan) and that's about the PS4 and Xbox One combined. And all pre-orders are almost all sold out around the world. And less teething problems than the Xbox One or Xbox 360.
Yeah, doomed.
@Sir_funkington
Picking up these for sure:
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch) - March 3rd
Fast RMX (Switch eShop) - March 3rd
I Am Setsuna (Switch eShop) - March 3rd
Super Bomberman R (Switch) - March 3rd
Just Dance 2017 (Switch) - March 3rd
Snipperclips - Cut it out, together! (Switch eShop) - March 3rd
Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove (Switch eShop) - March 3rd
1-2-Switch (Switch) - March 3rd
Little Inferno (Switch eShop) - March 3rd
Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment (Switch eShop) - March 3rd
World of Goo (Switch eShop) - March 3rd
And of course Mario Kart in April.
I didn't get a couple of those indie games on the Wii U eShop, so I'm going to support them and check them out on the Switch.
@BiasedSonyFan And what you're getting at is frustratingly non sequitur; it has no relevance to the original conversation about system launches.
Excited for a lot of these games, but at the same time I'm getting impatient for Smash Bros. to be announced for the Switch. For this reason alone, my Wii U will remain connected for business as usual!
@Yorumi It's going to be a struggle for me to be able to afford all the launch titles let alone any other release by the end of the year... There are so many games and a huge amount of them I want to buy. I am going to seriously have to pick and choose.
I'm down for Zelda, 1, 2 Switch, Super Bomberman C, I Am Setsuna, Fast RMX and Snipper Clips at launch. I'll also probably get the Zelda DLC pass.
Going forward, I've pre-ordered MK8D for April and will no doubt pick up the remake of LEGO City too. I fancy Disgaega in May and later in the year I will pick up ARMS, Fire Emblem, Skyrim, Splatoon 2 etc.
That's already 14 games before we get to the last quarter. I can only play so many at once!
@Tsusasi initially I was Zelda and bomberman, fast racing rmx has now joined them and I'm looking at snipperclips now too lol.
I think 1-2-switch looks really good, HD rumble sounds great, I've got a young daughter whos going to be my main player 2 and I don't know if she'd get 1-2-switch yet. I'll more than likely pick it up at some point tho as it looks good fun.
Never had a WiiU so Mario kart is a total must too 😁
As well as new IPs I really hope some other franchises make a come back during the switch life cycle; wave race, 1080, excite bike/truck, kid Icarus, metroid, ice climbers, f-zero (fast racings a nice substitute tho) all immediately come to mind
This list only further reminds me that the NS is going to do WAY better in Japan than anywhere else... They're getting fifteen things in March that apparently no one else is getting! (Or at least not by then...)
This, combined with a lower price point in Japan than anywhere else (equivalent of ~US$261 for the console) makes me feel like all of us gaijins got jipped! Not to mention, the technical issues that are popping up could be resolved sooner in Japan than anywhere else... As if waiting until next year to get an NS (outside Japan) couldn't be any further cemented...
@Sir_funkington Dreamcast!? Ooooh no you didn't... The Dreamcast is still a gold standard for good launch window lineups! True, the Saturn didn't do too well in it's first year games wise (no thanks to Bernie Stolar and all the idiotic executives at Sega of America in the mid 90's), but it's library became legendary, and it actually beat the N64 in Japan.
@PlywoodStick Europe lol, I meant in Europe!!!
Lol, as I said before the US line up blew my mind!!! I had to google it to believe it. I loved my dreamcast
@Yasume To be fair, the launch window lineup looks WAY better in Japan. They're getting DQ Heroes 1•2 on launch day... I'm pretty sure March 3rd is practically going to be a national holiday for them, when it comes to this thing. The NS is starting to look like the second coming of the PS2 level of popularity in Japan, and it's portable... That Waku Waku (Excitement) title wedged in there perfectly describes the Japanese anticipation for NS.
Meanwhile, in the rest of the world... It's looking ever so slightly more flaccid, especially for non-Nintendo fans... I knew I should've kept up with my Japanese lessons dating back to high school. I wouldn't have had to be jelly then.
@Sir_funkington Oh okay, I saw that comment too now. I didn't realize Europe got the short end of the stick there. Sorry we Yanks screwed up Sega... The 32X, the surprise Saturn release right after E3 1995 when almost no one had games ready, the unbelievable "the Saturn is not in our future" comment at E3 1997... We didn't have the internet 2.0 back then to fight it.
@WiltonRoots The funny thing about that pic is that there's no bait on the hook, so everyone who replies is purely a masochist... LOL
@Tsusasi Oh nooooo, your Wikipedia copy/paste is showing... 😱
But I like your comments anyways.
@UK-Nintendo
Lol he sure does sound like a mental obsessive fan and a jerk to boot. It ain't normal behaviour. Anyways true comment
"Phwoar, that's a lot of great games, right?"
Sorry, no it isn't. It's a handful of new games (most of which aren't even out until next year) surrounded by re-releases and over-priced ports of years-old games already available for other platforms.
Literally the only title in the confirmed 2017 list that I want to play is the new Zelda and I might as well keep my Wii U for that.
@BiasedSonyFan They are the opinions of gamers. The gamer bought the game they liked and the sales show it. If the game wasn't great or decent they wouldn't have bought it. Software selling well does equal software greatness, for example Super Mario bros, Ocarina of Time, etc. The reason why gamers buy good games is to play good games. And since those games were good, they sold very well.
P.S. Try hitting the actual reply button when making an argument or else people might not take you seriously
@Sir_funkington My teen daughter and I play the most, but my wife will enjoy 1-2 Switch. We l9ve Mario Kart on the Wii U. I'm sure you'll love getting all of the dlc included and a real battle mode!
@BiasedSonyFan no... i was talking about successful lauches as another post erroneously characterized the Dreamcast as an example of a bad lauch... when it was in fact one of the best, if not the best. From finacial success, to pop culture standout, to critical success, Dreamcast ticked all of the boxes.
@PlywoodStick It's good see the Sega Saturn getting the praise it deserves. So many great games made by Sega on that system that have either been lost to obscurity or lost all together.
@PlywoodStick rather than change wording and paraphrase and maybe get it wrong, i figured I'd make sure I posted the correct info. I'm an aging gamer with matching brain. I remember most of it as i was there including a couple of E3s but details get fuzzy. Also, thanks!
@TreasureFan i love my Saturn! And all of my import games... including the Treasure games
@Tsusasi Yep! The Saturn is an absolute importers dream, (although for some it's the only way in order to play it on a budget), but either way it's a great system overall. Especially with games like Radiant Silvergun and Silhouette Mirage.
@3MonthBeef Nope. If it was an ultimate failure then people would scoff at it like the infamous Virtual Boy or 32X. Although the Dreamcast didn't last long it'll still be regarded as the best.
@3MonthBeef It's fine. Sorry about that.
@Tsusasi it really does look good, I played the wii one but not to death like double dash or 64. I played so much 64 that years later it was one of my n64 carts that the plastic got sun bleached lol, that and goldeneye were almost permanently in my n64.
The battle mode was so good, going up the slopes and across the bridges.
I've been predominantly PS4 the last few years, my daughters at that age now where it's time. My dad used to play Nintendo with me when I was young. It's not really the same on a PS4. We've dabbled with some psn games but they miss the sweet spot.
Also I love the way the joy cons can be held sideways really reminds me of a nes controller - think it's just the size as there's a little bit more to them lol
Off topic and there's no way anyone has read this many comment s but.....how are the. Speakers? I've read nothing about the sound quality and volume from the undocked device.
I'm not counting on a north American release of Dragon Quest X. It's been passed on twice already stating that Dragon Quest isn't popular enough outside of Japan. I beg to differ. Had Dragon Quest X come to the Wii in North America it would have absolutely been a system seller. Heck they didn't need to sell systems everyone and their brother owned a Wii in North America.
If this list stays the way it is Fast RMX will be the best racing game on the system. Nothing against Fast RMX cause it's a good game but I would like to get a proper Racing title like Formula 1 or Rally racing. Would also like to see a High Def Virtua Racing remake. Come on Sega!
@BiasedSonyFan Most everyone else understands the conversation that has been going on. You just seem to want to be contrary and argumentative for no other reason to convince yourself that you had a point and that point was somehow a deep epiphany.
Nope.
Kind of a shame, as I've had some pretty decent interactions with others... even some that don't necessarily agreed 100p. But they understood the convo from jump, so that made things easier. Oh... and they didn't start things out by attacking or being snarky in a vacuum.
@Sir_funkington Enjoy the days, man. I still get her to play Just Dance and even Call of Duty occasionally (mainly Zombies) and Mario Kart is a fave for the whole fam, but we don't have the father-daughter all-day gaming like we used to... because, teen.
Battle mode was always my favorite so I really missed it when they dropped the ball on the Wii U. And that's what the Joy Cons reminded me of to. That's something that Nintendo really got right with them. Just watching people gather around and play with them made me a tad nostalgic.
@BiasedSonyFan Boy, you really like contradicting yourself, it's already bad enough you're making a lot of weak arguments of complete nonsense, but to keep coming back over and over, only to worsen your credibility, is quite sad really.
A large amount of people consider Mario and Zelda as great games, and they sell well because of it, if they are some who do not like Mario or Zelda that's fine, but they're still considered the best by many others. If a large amount of people are willing to buy it, then it does great in sales and those games have a high probability of being good, since no one is going to go out and buy a bad game. There is a thing called reviews and game research before buying a game, you and your friends should try it sometime. However you commit the unfortunate appalling delusion of ignorance, something that will always grab you, until you see the light of comprehension.
Nobody cares but, I'm buying at least forty of these titles in the first year, and a ton after. To do a copy and paste from above, here are the ones that I will definitely buy:
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Fast RMX
I Am Setsuna
Super Bomberman R
Snipperclips - Cut it out, together!
Human Resource Machine
Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove
1-2-Switch
Little Inferno
World of Goo
Blaster Master Zero
Snake Pass (if it reviews well)
TumbleSeed (if it reviews well)
LEGO City: Undercover
Puyo Puyo Tetris
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Constructor (most likely)
RiME
Sonic Mania
ARMS (? on the fence here)
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Splatoon 2
Fire Emblem Warriors
Super Mario Odyssey
Project Sonic 2017 (Tentative Title)
Pikmin (Tentative Title)
Dragon Quest X
Project Octopath Traveler
Dragon Quest XI
Seasons of Heaven
Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom
Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas (if it is what I think it is)
Steep
Stardew Valley
Yooka-Laylee
Minecraft: Switch Edition
Jackbox Party Pack 3 (if it reviews well)
Farming Simulator 18
And that's just what is supposedly up for 2017. I think the Switch is going to have a banner first year, and we haven't even seen E3 yet.
Please remove Pikmin from this list my Pikmin heart can't take it. The only confirmed Pikmin game is the not-real-Pikmin 3DS game.
@WiltonRoots
Ah that old internet staple
Say something stupid >>>> get roundly mocked for it >>>> claim to be 'fishing'. Seen that a few times over the years 😁
@TreasureFan
Saturn is a really underestimated aystem. Not a good example of a launch though (the Japanese one went ok to be fair)!
@PlywoodStick
The 32X was an idea started by Sega Japan, as was the crazy surprise launch of the Saturn (nobody tried that since, funnily enough). Though yeah, Stolars shocker at E3 97 is an Americans fault
@PlywoodStick
I've got my history pedant hat on here, but the lack of games in the Saturn's first year can't be blamed on Stolar, he only started there in mid-96.
Disgaea 5 Complete is a launch title in japan and NOT anywhere else? WHY?!
@BiasedSonyFan
Where did @Tsusasi say Switch was the worst launch ever?
Look, just because somebody says a company other than Nintendo had a good launch once doesn't mean they're saying all Nintendo's are bad or that you have to have to get personally offended on Nintendos behalf and try to shut down the discussion. While "Well at least Nintendo is making a profit" may be the only thing that matters to you there are plenty of aspects of console launches that can be discussed objectively and constructively
@beazlen1
Neither Pikmin or Pokémon should be on there AFAIK
@Sir_funkington
Wii was a good launch. Wii Sports, Zelda and it sold out for about 2 years after that.
GameCube had a quiet launch in Japan but by the US launch it had Rogue Leader, Tony Hawk and Crazy Taxi to add to Luigi's Mansion, Wave Race and Monkey Ball with Pikmin and Smash Bros a couple of weeks behind. Sold pretty well at first too.
The original Xbox had Halo, Project Gotham, Dead or Alive 3, an exclusive Oddworld game and also Tony Hawk. It always seems regarded as a poor launch apart from Halo but gameswise that's pretty good.
@3MonthBeef Strange how he appeared when that clownshoes guy imploded, maybe there can only be one? A bit like Highlander?
@electrolite77 yeah I agree, I meant in context and comparison to the switch launch.
I loved the GameCube line up, rogue leader and wave race were so good. Also if I remember correctly smash bros released shortly after launch.
My most personal launch disappointment was the ps2. I think because I had a dreamcast at the time. And the ps2 launch games couldn't really compare in my eyes.
I think the switch has got a rough deal online with the perceived quality of launch games.
Personally I can't wait, I really hope it does well.
I think I might up going indie heavy. Not only because it'd be cheaper than going heavy on retail games, but they've also got a pretty killer indie lineup.
@BiasedSonyFan Lol, you just did it again and confused someone with another poster. Then attacking someone who was just asking a question. Congrats you really are ignorant, Keep contradicting yourself friend and a good day to you.
@BiasedSonyFan Well I guess I have to come clean. I was actually testing a cognitive hypothesis whether or not someone would take a trolls bait. My first comments were actually real however my sales = greatness comment were just a ruse to see if you would take the bait and go on a tangent like a fool. And it worked precisely as I planned. At first you faked replied ,Which is in my opinion the most spineless way of making a point. (So I guess you're the real chicken here.) Then you began contradicting yourself over and over, which made your arguments much more invalid, so I took the next step in repeating my "argument", however that made you just go to name calling and using random intellectual synonyms to prove your point, but all it did was worsen your already baseless argument. I got a real kick out of seeing you try your hardest to one up me, but seeing you fail again and again became quite tiresome (I might actually take pity on you for taking the bait). Anyway thank you for taking part in my cognitive experiment and I hope this doesn't ruin your credibility even more. This will probably be my one and only time doing this though, but I just wanted to see first hand how someone will go through thick and thin just make their point, only to realize they were being trolled the entire time. Good day to you.
@BiasedSonyFan Well, it's simple the North American Dreamcast launch is considered to be the best because it had a lot of games from different genres that would appeal to different gamers, plus it being the most powerful console at the time, with out of the box online capabilities and the clever marketing drew in consumers for the Dreamcast. The another reason why it's considered the best is because nothing of that specific caliber had been done for. An "overnight success" as you will. Before that it usually took clever advertising to get the console up to speed in terms of selling well. Although the Snes and the Playstation were the first consoles to achieve this without that need, the Dreamcast broke their selling records in console and games wise. The games that were launched were quite good at the time, such as Soul Caliber, Powerstone, and Sonic Adventure. And yes, you can say it's a subjective claim, but the fact is a large number of gamers do believe that it is true, whether it's nostalgia based or not. It's still considered by many as one of the best. Greatness is always subjective.
Honestly I didn't mean to step on your toes, but what you said at # 143 "What facts? The only facts you've shown are that Dreamcast video games sold well at launch; that has nothing to do with how great the video games are." was kind of a dumb thing to say, and contradicting. The reason why it contradicts, is the notion that you don't think those games were good, but that's also subjective, (How would you know how good they are if you haven't played them).
Also apologize on my actions, with some of my comments, the whole "Cognitive Experiment" was a foul move in my part and it's my responsibility to apologize for it. However the whole "Don't pretend as if your personal, subjective gaming taste is somehow a universal fact for everyone else." is nonsense since greatness has always been subjective whether it be based on movies or video games. Greatness is never fact it's opinion, so why even bother comment with someones opinion on greatness when it's never a fact?
@Sir_funkington
PS2 launch was awful. I took one look at that and bought a Dreamcast as Sony had nothing to match up to Soul Caliber, MSR, Ferrari F355, Code Veronica, Skies of Arcadia. It didn't last much longer but what a back catalogue.
"I think the switch has got a rough deal online with the perceived quality of launch games."
Yeah kind of. The original message was that there are 5 games at retail. It looks good now with Shovel Knight, Fast RMX etc. but they've been added quite late in the day.
@spizzamarozzi That is true. However, the company that did ALL the localisation for XCX is not doing it for XC2, it is a much bigger company this time. I personally could see XC2 being launched around the End of the year.
Splatoon 2 seems cool, but i don't know.. i bought the first one, which was a huge waste with no single player, i could never get it to work correctly online (every other game i have on wiiUps4ps3pc works flawlesly, but not splatoon) Im abit wary its gonna repeat itself again with the second game. Howeverm if i do get it and it works, ill at least get to experience the hype for Splatoon like everyone did back then.
@BiasedSonyFan I never said that the Switch launch was the worst. And if you can't wrap your gray matter around the reasons why the Dreamcast (regardless of your quest for justice or whatever) was both a critical and fiscal success of the likes that had never been seen before (record breaking on several levels) and at the same time an incredible comeback and reversal of fortune (even if sort-lived) thereby making it a one-of-a-kind success and by most sane measures one of (if not the most) successful launches of all time, no amount of facts or logic are going to help. You are beyond help. Circular arguments, misquoting me, attributing though processes and opinions to me that don't represent anything that I've trying to say... and then rinsing and repeating. I should have stopped a while back and that's on me; I fed the troll.I don't understand what you get from all of that nonsense, but damn...
@Sir_funkington if you think about it though, in a sense they kind of are doomed anymore. Not doomed in the sense that they've ceased to exist, but ever since the N64 gen, Nintendo has slowly slipped into 3rd place and somewhat niche appeal. The core fanbase shrinks and becomes more defensive every year.
So yeah (outside of the Wii gen) I'd say that Nintendo is doomed in a way. I do not see a future in that they are back on top again. Sony and MS appear to have this whole industry figured out.
@BiasedSonyFan Well? What did you expect from a comment section on the internet. It's just the way it is.
Zelda botw and xenoblade 2
@NintendoLife Nice - now do it in alphabetical order as well
@Yasume You got to be joking man.So called gamers who think like you should be ashamed of yourself.It's an amazing line up.But you got your head so far up Sony or Microsoft backside you can see for toffee.I have had 2 PS4s and 2 xbox one's. I suggest you go look up both there lauch lineup of.PS4 that had mostly PS3 clones and so did xbox one of 360 to.PS4 didn't have any top games for nearly 2 years.FACT.
@NintendoLife
Are you gonna review some games prior to launch ?
Better but still weak, may e3 bring good winds to us!
This article should be a pinned up.
Looks like Nintendo's line-up is shaping up to be one hell of a roster. I hope E3 brings out the big guns and hopefully The Switch have some titles like: Shenmue HD, Shenmue 3 (most likely wont happen), Layers of Fear, Powerstone (we need a new one and the classics), Resident Evil 7, We Happy Few, Overwatch and alot of great indie horror games.
Hopefully the virtual console still happens and The Switch will have a vast library from nintendo(as far as they can go), sega (genesis and dreamcast) ,neo geo and other options.
Again, no real Metroid on the list. No plans to get the switch. Will play the NES, SNES, Game Cube, Wii, Wii-U, Gameboy, and 3ds games we already have.
@nintendolife wasn't Blaster Mater Zero confirmed for 9th March?
@THENAMESNORM quite right, that has been updated
This year's releases should easily keep me busy till 2018!
My line-up:
March: Zelda: BotW, I Am Setsuna, VOEZ, Has-Been Heroes, World of Goo
April: Graceful Explosion Machine, Mr. Shifty
May: Disgaea 5 Complete, RiME
Q3: Splatoon 2, Fire Emblem Warriors, Zelda DLC 1
Q4: Zelda DLC2
2017: Towerfall Ascension, Celeste (if it releases in 2017)
Not to mention E3 is bound to be packed with new announcements. I'm satisfied with this!
@Yasume I wish people would stop complaining about everything and just give the Switch a chance. Optimism is so hard to come by nowadays.
"The worst launch in gaming history" is already pushing it. Even the PS4 and Xbox One had worse lineups than the Switch.
Please go somewhere else if all you're going to do is complain.
SOOOOO MANY GAMES!!
I don't remember any new gaming hardware having this many games in its first year, especially with this many first party exclusives!!
Only two of my games will be physical, the rest will be digital until around April. What are you guys week 1 games? Mine are Zelda, Bomberman, I am Setsuna, Shovel Knight, Blaster Master Zero, Snipperclips and maybe FAST RMX.
I spy Cave Story!
@Yasume You are either ignorant or looking for a fight. Either way, I'm not impressed.
@Sinton Always looking for a fight. It's what he's been doing constantly on all Switch articles. At least he gives them views I suppose. Wish people would stop feeding him.
@Sir_funkington I've been a grumpy old man lately too, but I have to agree with you. Even though I'm not convinced about buying the Switch, it's still very exciting.
I was disappointed to see Splatoon 2 listed as Q3. I thought it was scheduled for an early summer release. I'm guessing September now.
@Yasume What a hot take! Edgy!
@dkxcalibur Q3 is summer. July, Aug, Sept. So it's still on target for a summer release like the original, but won't be "late" if it's pushed to Sept for some reason. The Squid Reasearch Lab has been active with posting new abilities and weapons so they seem like they're running pretty on target. Shouldn't be difficult since it's recycling (most of) the engine, so the work would be mostly testing the balance/maps/modes etc. And I imagine it will launch with Turf War only again to acclimate people slowly to the weapons and modes. Worked well the first time and kept the hype machine running, so ranked modes can still be tweaked after shipping.
@ZeldaToThePast I just assumed he was trolling for amusement. The arguments posted seem like over the top obvious troll bait designed to poke the hysterical reactionaries that fill the comments. Maybe I'm just giving him too much credit though
@Yasume You are so cute
@Yasume PS4 was worse. Nice bait, tho
looking forward to the new super Mario game, Pikmin game, and even the legend of Zelda game.
maybe we will get lucky and they will release a new Luigi's Mansion game as well as a few other well overdue games....
Wasn't Kingdom Hearts 3 announced for Switch?
Assuming it comes out this console cycle of course.
I don't know if it is just me or what but it seems like all over the web people are going crazy about the Switch, except for this site. I think I haven't found a community more poisonous and negative about everything Nintendo than this one. Weird enough, this site have "nintendo" in its name.
Member when we said there were hardly any games at launch?
@Billsama It just seems that way. The other Nintendo sites are even more poisonous. And then there's GAF, IGN, FAQs, Polygon, Kotaku....shudder. This is an oasis on the net!
@MadAdam81 I don't think KH3 is far enough in development to have been announced for any specific consoles yet Officially it's just PS/XB.....I have my doubts it will be in before PS5, and they haven't announced anything for Switch (but they fell into silence long before "NX" was even announced. This is Squeenix where a development cycle starts at the decade mark.
While it won't change my view of the device just yet (no proper third-party Retail support), I have to admit there are a lot of interesting downloads coming. Some are exclusives, or timed-exclusives. Some have new content. Even quite a few use the 3d-rumble, wich is nice. Now the prices, I fear for the prices! If they cost as much as they do on other devices, that's acceptable. But as you may know, I hate to pay more then 10 Euro for a download. Since when your memory-cards/harddrives die, every game is gone. Besides, downloads are often short games (though that can also be said nowadays about a lot of Retail-titles). But anyway, I only pay 60 Euro's for a Retail title (game-card or disc)!
@nintendolife Am I correct in assuming that all those games with (Japan) at the end can be bought and played everywhere else too by temporarily changing your consoles location settings? After all, it's supposed to be region-free, right?
@shani to be honest, we're not 100% sure on that yet as the eshop isn't live yet... but we'll be reporting about what is possible once it's live.
Honestly, the nindies basically are the 3rd party support to me now. I'm at a point where I was more worried about Yacht Club or Shinen than EA or Konami (glad to see Bomberman, though). Looking at it that way this actually an amazing year one.
@antdickens Ok cool, can't wait for your findings on that matter.
I mean, although most of those Japanese games are unknown to me, it would almost double the amount of March releases if they were available in Europe (and everywhere else) too. That would make the launch release window even more intriguing.
It has begun.
Super Bomberman R has moved to "shipping" status. My first Switch related item is now paid for and thus my property en route
@NEStalgia Nice. I got my first bit in the mail yesterday. Screen cover. lol.
Such a long wait for some
@aaronsullivan Haha, that's exciting actually GETTING the item, I still won't get mine until Friday. Still it's fun when it's an actual Nintendo item and you know it's en-route
@mordecai You and I are they only ones here who care. ):
Oh, I guess TheLobster does too. (:
Too many games too mention but USF2 hype!!
@Tsusasi I'd buy most of those again if they ever put the dreamcast on the EShop
Looks great!
@Lord Omg yes.
Certainly more great stuff than I can afford to buy, so no complaints here
I was excited until I realized most of the games I want is japan only for several months. Lots of games we already had elsewhere. Well I guess this will be like the 3ds where I will have to wait 2 years or so before it's worth buying. Is nintendo supporting this thing only see zelda and mario kart 8 rerelease with mario at the end of the year.
The first party support for the Nintendo Switch looks promising. If I were to get the Switch, I'd be looking at Zelda, MK8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, ARMS, FE Warriors, Super Mario Odyssey, to name a few. I agree the launch is lackluster. But not the lineup for the whole year. It's more impressive than the Wii U.
Is this still being updated?. Well, Sonic Mania got delayed to Q3 recently and Graceful Explosions Machine got a release date (check the switch coming soon section
