Re: Talking Point: Let's Dare to Believe that Sonic the Hedgehog Can Have a Happy Anniversary

SwaveSays

I don't know what it is, but Sonic games just haven't felt 'right' to me since the early days. I tried really hard to get into Generations, Colors, and Lost World; none of them do it for me. The controls just don't feel as tight or responsive as I'd like them to be, and after a while, I just go back to Sonic 2 and CD.

I'd like to hold out hope that after Sega's recent apology for Sonic games being so crappy, whatever they have in the works will be everything I'm asking for. All I want is a a nice 2.5D platformer without any weird gimmicks or control schemes that plays as well as the older games.

Re: Analysis: Assessing Why NX Needs to Take Over From Both the Wii U and 3DS

SwaveSays

If it wants to succeed and compete with the latest generation, then the NX need to be everything that the Wii U isn't.

It needs to have at least one solid title to draw people to it that isn't another New Super Mario Bros. title. Looking back, the Wii u launched with 32 titles. The only interesting one was ZombiU... and that wasn't special enough to draw anyone to the system.

The marketing needs to be significantly better as to associate it as a separate and new system. I'm still encountering people that think the Wii U was just a $300 accessory for the Wii rather than being an entirely new system.

As far as hardware goes, it needs to compete with Sony and Microsoft and function similar to how they do. It needs way more internal memory and it needs to not be weird about adding more.

Re: Talking Point: The Easily Forgotten Hardware Release of 2015 - New Nintendo 3DS

SwaveSays

My 3DS system was starting to show its age and I was getting frustrated with some of the load times for certain games, so I snagged a New 3DS Xl on black friday. While I'll agree that it's definitely not a necessary purchase, it's certainly the ideal version to have.

I also enjoy having reasonable access to Xenoblade Chronicles without having to pay a hefty price for the Wii version. So, there's that.

Re: Movie Review: Pixels Proves Once Again That Video Games And Film Do Not Make Good Bedfellows

SwaveSays

@Dakt RIGHT! It's as though they tried to appeal to the widest audiences as possible, while missing everyone completely. It's like trying to shoot a heard of deer with a shotgun from 200 yards away.

"Let's throw in some arcade stuff and reference to The Wizard for the 80s culture, add in some washed up comedians from the 90/00s era, and make sure it's bright and colorful for the kiddies. Oh, and throw in Olaf's voice actor for good measure."

Re: Review: 3D Streets of Rage 2 (3DS eShop)

SwaveSays

@A01 Your best bet is the Scott Pilgrim video game for a current beat-em-up. It manages to capture everything that made these types of games great, while still being its own thing. It's also filled with subtle/not so subtle references.

Re: Sega Sorry That It "Betrayed" Fans, Hopes To Win You Back With A New Game Announcement This September

SwaveSays

"We're seriously considering quality..." You know how you do that? Produce a proper Sonic game. Give us a nice looking 2.5D side-scrolling platformer without janky controls. That's all we want. Oh, and classic Sonic too, not this edgy, tall and lanky one.

You know what, just redo Sonic CD with some updated good looking graphics. Put it out on all consoles. Have it control as fluid as it should. I'd shut up for like a decade.

Re: Review: Splatoon (Wii U)

SwaveSays

@kobashi100 While the single player is lacking, the game revolves more around the multiplayer aspect. Apparently DLC will be dropping all throughout the summer. 3 days after release and we already have a new gun, map, and mode.

Re: Nintendo Download: 7th May (North America)

SwaveSays

Good thing tomorrow's first stress test is at 11PM EST. Girlfriend and I have nothing planned, so I'll be playing Splatoon. It would be nice if there was an actual demo or tutorial to get familiar with the controls though.

Re: First Impressions: Tapping In With amiibo Tap: Nintendo's Greatest Bits

SwaveSays

@hydeks I know, right? Or older Animal Crossing games. I'm not sure Nintendo understands that their intended target audience is not their actual audience. This would make more sense if their primary user base were kids that didn't grow up with (S)NES and have never played any of these games. I, however, am 26 and own all of these games in some form or another.

Plus, it has 30 games to sample... which means that, at the very least, I'd need to own at least 30 Amiibo to demo every game. At that point, you'd literally spend less money buying every single game on this app.

Re: Nintendo Reveals the Final Club Nintendo Elite Rewards

SwaveSays

@StraTTtheRipper I finally got in to a point where it actually recognized I had a status, told me I had a platinum reward to redeem, go for DKCRTF, tells me I already redeemed it. I wish that were the case, because then I would have gotten an email with a code and one less headache.

Re: Nintendo Reveals the Final Club Nintendo Elite Rewards

SwaveSays

@Tazcat2011 I's had three devices trying to log me in for an hour now. The closest I got to getting it was it telling me I reached Platinum, then telling me I didn't when I tried to get the game. This is utterly frustrating. I really hope the new program actually works.

Re: Game Jam Tasks Developers With Creating A Zelda Title Starring A Female Link

SwaveSays

Two very simple solutions to this problem:

  • If Link's gender is irrelevant to the story, then give me the option to play as either gender.

-Just make a Zelda game where she's the protagonist. It could be a really neat and original concept when you consider what magical abilities she has. And considering the success of Majora's Mask, no one can argue that a radically different Zelda game wouldn't make money.

Re: Exclusive: Affordable Space Adventures Pricing Confirmed, Aims to Retain Value Of Wii U Exclusive

SwaveSays

I was kind of "meh" about this game until today. It looked like just another game where you navigate your ship in some corridors and avoid the walls and enemies. I've played so many varieties of that game, i just don't care anymore. But, after I read about the elaborate controls and multi-player action, I can easily admit that I was wrong. $20 for this game? I will gladly purchase on day one.

Re: Interview: Yacht Club Games Talk Drawing in 8-bit and Aspirations for Shovel Knight 64

SwaveSays

@Krambo42 That's fair; the N64 was a very transitional system. We went from the 2D SNES era to this bizarre 64-bit polygon 3D world. A lot of games didn't handle it well; the camera angles were wonky, the textures all looked like mud, and they all seemed to turn out to be collectathons.
The reason OoT is so good is because it really redefined how these games played, and games have been following suit ever since.

Re: SteamWorld Heist's Capers Face a Delay

SwaveSays

I don't understand why people get so upset about delays. I'd rather have a complete, working product than something that's pushed out because we demanded it. Sure, it sucks... but would people really rather have something broken?
