@Quorthon I haven't even bothered to go after this wave. I stumbled upon Toon Link and Bowser early, but I wasn't actively seeking them out. It's not worth my time as a consumer to stress myself out trying to obtain NFC figures that barely have any functionality in games. Between production shortages and scalper vultures, I'm completely defeated as a collector.
Nintendo, in general, seems to be deeply unaware of all the issues surrounding their products lately. When they do become aware, they're even more deeply confused. And that's a serious problem because I, as the consumer, am not deeply confused by any of the situations. No right-minded person was buying these because they thought extra weapons, costumes, boosts, or trained fighters was worth the $13 price... they were getting them as figures for displays because where else am I ever going to get a Little Mac, CF, or Marth figure?
@Quorthon It's certainly nice and all. I'll take the costumes and various other unlocks, but let's be honest here... I didn't get Captain Falcon for the MK8 costume where I can pretend I have a proper F-Zero game, I got it because where else am I going to get something like that?
My girlfriend works at Target, which has been the most convenient situation for collecting these damn things... and even that hasn't been completely ideal. When new shipments come in, her fellow Amiibo-crazed employees know to set aside at least one figure for me if they manage to catch one. It's led to me possessing WFT, Villager, and CF. The others? Forget about it.
I'd like to grab this, but I'm just not fond of the XL version. So, I'll wait until the standard releases in the US. If it doesn't then I guess I'll just wait for a Black Friday deal this year.
I have the Limited Edition MM3D bundle coming, but it's yet to ship. So, I likely won't get that until sometime next week. My guide book had an estimated delivery of the 25th from Amazon. So.. I won't be playing anything this weekend.
I can't stand numerical or letter scores for games because in the end, it's all arbitrary and doesn't actually mean anything. I'd rather read about the game in general; these are the things that were good and things that were not so good. And then I can made the decision for myself based on those things.
I managed to sneak in just now and grab it. Club Nintendo servers are spotty at best.
I still don't understand the point of this, as I can't share anything online or with friends... so, it's essentially the same as if I were to take all the sticky notes from work and make my own animations. But hey, it's FREE!
@ZeSir I just don't understand how they act like they're completely unaware of things. I, as a user of Nintendo products, understand deeply what's happening across the board with problems. But then there's the actual company and they're like, "Oh wow, we didn't expect this to happen." Really... you haven't had anything good on Club Nintendo for an entire year, you decide to close it and send out a final wave of shit, and didn't expect the site to get over-saturated with traffic. Really guys?
I had a feeling this was going to happen when they said it would release this week. I thought, "Man, that site's already got too much traffic to handle, it's not going to be able to deal with this Flipnote stuff." Sure enough. And whatever, that's fine. I can wait for a useless app that has no online functions.
What I don't get is how they seems to be constantly and deeply confused by everything happening lately. "We didn't anticipate the high traffic volumes." Oh yes, I suppose you've learned nothing from the Pokemon Bank fiasco.
@Artie Personally, I'm not a fan of numerical grading scales for anything. I'd rather have someone give me their honest opinions; talk about the highs and lows of a game, then let me decide whether or not I should make the purchase. That's how I write game reviews for my site.
But, when it comes down to it, reviews are just opinions. They're not a science and not something that should be approached as such. I can recognize the flaws in my favorite games, but I'd still rate them a 10. Take everything with a grain of salt. Read what other people have to say.
I'm done with trying to hunt these things down. If I come across ones I don't have, that's great, but I'm not going out of my way to ensure I get these things anymore. Between the stock shortages, low manufacturing rates, awful distribution, cancellations, and Ebay vultures snatching up the entire lot, there's no point anymore.
So, go ahead Nintendo, make some super rare gold and silver Amiibo. Your loyal fans will never every get a chance to obtain any of them with how you handle practices.
While I certainly understand how people are upset over the idea of a remake, I'm personally excited for this. I never got a chance to play on the 64, and my Collector's Edition disc often crashes before I get to the first dungeon. So, in reality, I've never gotten to experience this game like I'd like to.
Wasn't there a new Zelda game recently? And aren't we getting a new on this year on Wii U? I think I can handle a remastered game in between
@JaxonH To be fair, no one thought any of the Amiibo were going to be rare when they were first released. It wasn't until they were gone that we realized there were limited runs of certain figures. Meanwhile, Nintendo was like, "They're not going anywhere. JK."
While I doubt the MP10 line, being main Nintendo characters, isn't going to become rare, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo pulled the rug out from everyone. All while the scalpers snagged every last one of them up.
@JaxonH Everything they've produced in the past 4 months has practically sold out within a few hours of being available for preorder. I wasn't surprised to hear that the new line also sold out instantly.
@Snugglebutt I got an actual Nintendo adapter for $20 because I preordered it months before the release. For me, it's a matter of being able to play with a wired controller for quicker response times. While most don't notice the subtle lag from wireless controllers, it's definitely something that I've picked up.
Plus, when you're the only one with a Wii U and Smash, everyone demands that you bring the thing over. Hooking up 4 GC controllers is a heck of a lot easier than syncing Wii remotes and dealing with batteries.
@JaxonH I fell into this boat a while back. I had a 360 for about a year, played all the games I wanted and then eventually got bored with everything. Everything sort of just meshed together in this bizarre super-gritty blahness. By the end, I was playing Fez and Scott Pilgrim, and nothing else.
Sold everything in 2013 and bought a Wii U with the money. I haven't looked back since. Maybe it's just me getting older or what, but I deal with enough depressing realism every day of my life. When I play video games, I want to escape and have some fun. I won't deny that everything else is good, but it's just not for me anymore.
@nintendomasterr I'm in the same boat. I feel like what we've seen lately is the result of investors pushing for this type of money-grabbing content, while Nintendo's core values balance it out by not going overboard. I don't mind how Nintendo has been handling it all, as what we've been offered has been within reason. I gladly purchased the combo pack for MK8 because it provided lots of content for $12.
The second they go off that deep end though, I'm out.
@Shambo I feel like full motion controls are different than gyroscopic enhancement. While I enjoyed Skyward Sword and Red Steel 2, I could fully understand not wanting to play those games and finding the full motion controls annoying and unnecessary. With WW HD, I don't get it at all. Aiming items was made so much easier without forcing me to be super accurate with aiming. How could anyone not enjoy that?
@Shambo Because everyone gets butthurt over motion controls. I have friends that refuse to try Wind Waker HD because it has "motion controls" even though I'd hardly even call it that.
While I haven't been gunning for this, as I don't have the cash flow right now, I still find this whole scenario excessively irritating. As Nintendo fans, we've had to deal with a large level of scumbag scalpers lately. Between the MK8 bundles, GC adapters, Amiibo, and everything MM related, it's really difficult not to be frustrated. And while I've managed to secure myself everything at its regular retail price, including that MM bundle, it's been through sheer luck and perseverance.
Ultimately, I feel like these problems could be avoided in the first place if Nintendo was the one distributing everything directly from their website as a way to maintain control.
@Shambo I constantly rave about the gyro assistance with aiming in WW. It was implemented exactly how it should have been, which added fluidity to a lot of areas. A new Metroid game with the same types of controls sounds like a dream.
We'll see what the future holds for us. It would be wonderful if we had a unified rewards system that stretched globally and distributed the same items to everyone, rather than limiting items to certain countries.
I skipped out on Super Mario Galaxy 2 when it was first released. Played the first game, really liked it. Never bothered with 2 since the price was always absurdly high. Can't pass it up for $10.
@Sean_Aaron It would be great is NoA just had an online store for this kind of stuff. They could easily limit how many were sent to a single address. It's excessively irritating to watch items sell out while I'm at work before I have a chance to even think about pre-ordering/purchasing.
@Sean_Aaron I wish they would do that with everything. They way scalpers swoop up and buy the entire stock of Nintendo products is absolutely ridiculous . They were actively bragging about this on Monday when the Majora's Mask limited edition bundles went on sale.
@JaxonH It's really starting to piss me off. This happens every time something new releases. Nintendo fans have to stake out shops and online stores in the hopes that we can get something before all the damn scalpers do. That's not always easy to do either because most of us, you know, work for a living.
I was only lucky enough to get this bundle because I'm a regular at my local GameStop and was fortunate enough to get a call that a few were available.
After noticing that it sold out within an hour online, I went to my local GameStop hoping they had pre-orders still available. They hadn't heard anything about it, but would give me a call if they did. They were also bummed and shocked to find out that it was gone because they were looking forward to getting it today as well.
Hours later, they called and told me they had a few available to sell online, but it had to be paid in full and done within the next half hour before they were all gone. I don't think I've ever moved so fast in my life.
I think they were kinda "hush hush" about the whole thing in order to ensure their frequent customers who also adore Zelda got first dibs.
It's definitely not a game for everyone. At its core, the game is frustrating and the only Zelda title that actually requires a guide to play it. But, maybe that's why I like it so much, because it isn't the norm. The helplessness and frustration you feel as a player is exactly in line with the story itself and how Link must feel.
Hopefully, in the age of the internet, where anything you could ever want to know is available at your fingertips, people won't be surprised by what they receive. A simple Google search will easily explain that MM is not your average Zelda game.
But again, who knows? They've stated quite a few times that this isn't just a remake. They've made a point to say that they're trying to make this game accessible and playable to a wider spectrum to players, which I assume means being more forgiving.
@Quorthon Who knows, maybe 15 years later Majora's Mask will be received better by a new fanbase that wasn't even alive when the game released. I personally know a few people that hated the game when it was released, but played it years later and loved it. Zelda games always have a lot of meaning to me, so I'm definitely in the bandwagon of "Yay, another Zelda thing."
But I understand your point. I'd ALSO like to see special editions for X, Splatoon, or Star Fox. Hell, I'd even take Mario Maker.
My wallet is going to be hurting this year. Hopefully everything is spaced out throughout the year so I won't have to make some tough choices. Mostly, I was looking forward to Zelda and Xenoblade Chronicles, but it's hard not to be excited over Splatoon and Star Fox.
