Re: Nintendo Confirms Expansion Pass DLC for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

StarDust4Ever

Side Story sounds neat, though not really interested in the Hard mode or endless dungeons of trials and punishment. Also curious about the special items. The Switch shirt sounds lame and breaks the realism of being in the Zelda Universe.

As for the other two helper items, they could be neat. I also like that you can use Amiibo for an occasional stat boost when you need them, but I hope there's no "hand holding" mode like in the new Mario Kart.

Re: Nintendo Switch Version Of Skylanders Imaginators Doesn't Support Traps Or Vehicles

StarDust4Ever

I have a Disney Wizard Mickey (original not the clear 2.0 version) and a Spyro I bought used at GameXChange because they are awesome as figures. Later I got the Bowser and DK Amiibo figures with the vehicles you can't use. Why? Because I collect Nintendo characters. Most of the characters outside of the original Spyro are just generic looking, and it's as bad as Pokemon, gotta collect them all. Spend $50 on the game and $200 more collecting figures.

Ironic that the Nintendo foray into Toys-to-Life series was always about collecting the figures rather than using them in game. Their in game functions were really just a bonus, and the fact you use them across games is cool. And yeah I bought a lot of characters. No surprise the AC Amiibo series are literal shelf sitters. Nobody has nostalgia for those...

Re: Nintendo Switch Lacks A Web Browser Because It's A "Dedicated Video Game Platform"

StarDust4Ever

@MS7000 No kidding. I have logged over 2200 hours on the Wii-U browser myself.

While I do have Switch on preorder, my Wii-U will not be disconnected anytime soon.

Also what's with the "share" button? I do not use any popular social media services but I do use old timey forums to discuss related content with people with similar interests. I do hope the Switch has the capability to save screenshots to SD card at least, so I can store screenshots to my PC and upload them from there.

Lord knows how many times I have paused games and upped a Wii-U screenshot to a gaming forum or my own email. But sharing to a social media service where 90% of your followers don't give a flip about gaming is IMO a bad idea. Good for marketing though.

And yes, all excellent points from people sentiments that certain public and private wifi networks need the user to agree to TOS or enter their credentials in order to access a network. Then it stores the device ID in the system for a period so you can game or do whatever non-browsing activites you want.

Lastly not everyone, myself included, have smart devices, and those who do may not want to juggle multple devices in their lap or have them in use while gaming. I have a PC, multiple game consoles, and an old flip phone. So here's hoping it is possible to play online and simply plug an analog headset into the Switch without using an android tablet.

Lack of web browser is a blow but not the final straw. If Nintendo announces that you cannot play online without an external smart device, I am cancelling my preorder. I can't imagine they'll be that stupid though, and I can do without voice chat if need be.

Re: Hori Range of Nintendo Switch Accessories, Including LAN Adapter, Arrives on Amazon UK

StarDust4Ever

I can see the need for a LAN adapter. If you dwell in an apartment complex rather than the suburbs, there may be 20-30 wifi connections competing for 2.4Ghz bandwidth. Sometimes the timeouts can be excruciating. I might get 2Mbps on the wifi, 25Mbps on the LAN. Sometimes web browsers hang. Heck I've seen local congestion get so bad that PS3 controllers are borderline unusable unless you plug it into the console. Lost controller packets can be devastating.

And Bluetooth is a bit more robust than wifi simply because the packets transmit at a lower baud rate. It is worse because my fiance has an older laptop with no Wireless N connection. Even with N, most cheaper routers don't use the 5Ghz band which is vastly less crowded than 2.4Ghz.

If you live in suburbia with your own house, you absolutely don't have to deal with those issues, and depending on how many devices you actively use in your house, you may never get degraded performance. Something as simple as someone streaming video one room over can be devastating on the lag.

Re: Guide: The Best Nintendo Switch Micro SD Cards

StarDust4Ever

I got that same Sandisk 200Gb SD card and it arrived over the weekend. At first it did not show up on my laptop card reader, until I used SD Foundation Formatter to reformat it as ExFAT and it displayed 183 binary Gigabyte reported by Windows. That's technically 128+64=192 Gb minus some space for formatting and housekeeping. Seems they ran out of room on the MicroSD which may be why the 256Gb cards cost more than twice as much for 33% more storage. Cost me $69.99 USD plus tax and free shipping (dang Amazon charges sales tax in Louisiana now...).

Re: Nintendo Switch Won't Have Video Streaming Services At Launch, But They're Being Considered

StarDust4Ever

@The-Chosen-one $69. Unfortunately Amazon just started adding state sales tax for LA so the total is more like $76-something. Funny they have 200Gb MicroSD cards now when historically flash chips have always been in binary denominations, ie 2^N Megabytes or Gigabytes. If you want a 256Gb Sandisk, it is well over twice as expensive!

My guess is Moore's Law as it relates to storage space is starting to break down because physics. You can only ever cram so many gates on a chip!

Anyway here's a link if you decide to get one:
https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Ultra-200GB-Micro-SDSDQUAN-200G-G4A/dp/B00V62XBQQ/

Funny because the "People who bought this also bought..." product links point to a bunch of Switch accessories, so I'm not the only one who wanted the extremely more storage option.

Re: Video: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's Localised Voice Acting is Pretty Darn Varied

StarDust4Ever

I couldn't help but notice, there is a Latin American Spanish and a Spain Spanish, but only American English and French French. No love for British English or Canadian French?

Also the crying scene... Crying is a universal language, and I am surprised by how similar the voices of all characters sounded (except the overdramatic Japanese crying, but that is on the voice actor, not the actual vocal type).

A few misses here and there, but overall good. I listened closely to the Spanish and Latin America dubs. In some scenes, it is like they are not even saying the same words. As someone who doesn't understand Spanish, I'm not sure if the sentence structure or meanings of the words have changed at all. Still French Canadian or British English would have been cool.

Re: Nintendo Switch Won't Have Miiverse Or StreetPass

StarDust4Ever

I don't have Facebook and Twitter accounts but I use forums a lot. It would be nice to be able to save screenshots to Sd card and upload them to a web browser.

Wii-U had limited screenshot capability by pausing game and upload shots to online. "Share" buttons are completely useless to me though if I'm not using social media. If the app allows me to save screenshots and upload them to any website or copy to my PC, I'll be happy.

Re: Breaking Down the Nintendo Switch Online Service Details

StarDust4Ever

@speedracer216 +1 I use an old flip phone. Also if there's no web browser to look up game tips, I'm gonna throw up.

As someone who has clocked 2000+ hours on the Wii-U browser, I would have loved to not be tethered to one room when using it. I'm watching football and using the 3ds browser right now!

Re: Nintendo Introduces ARMS, a New Boxing IP

StarDust4Ever

Really Nintendo should have bundled this game with 1/2/Switch as a 2-in-1 gamecard pack in. Much as I like Wild Gunman, this looks like a more invigorating offer. Only downside is I plan on getting a single Pro controller for multiplayer due to the high pricetag on the Joycons. Since each player will require two Joycons, I'll have to buy a spare set in order to do local multiplayer. That's essentially $140 for a minigame. Yes I'm aware I can use the joycons for other stuff but I figured the stock Joycon plus a Pro should be sufficient for multiplayer (and the Pro being more ergonomic of the two).

Re: Soapbox: The Switch Presentation Was Good, but Not Perfect

StarDust4Ever

@DanteSolablood I was thinking the middle one could be java, though that's usually more of a brown. I secured the gray joycon bundle at Gamestop this morning and a collector's Zelda (master sword edition is online only).

I also wanna get a Pro controller and that new Bomberman game but the SKU wasn't in the system yet.

Re: Soapbox: The Switch Presentation Was Good, but Not Perfect

StarDust4Ever

Not sure what to think honestly. It's Wii level of controller options again. The extra controllers and memory card will be expensive too. ARMS looks interesting but I'd have to buy extra joycon to play with a friend. I only plan on getting a spare Pro and that's it for now. Also the red/blue joycons are garish. What is Nintendo thinking? Neapolitan Ice Cream Sandwich?
