@JohnGrey N64 is too complex to slap on a chip. It would be a buggy emulation box, if at all. Even Raspberry Pi struggles to have enough horsepower to emulate N64, so we have a while to go yet.
Rumors from some tech insiders claim certain patents have not expired yet. This is why we see N64 clone controllers but not systems currently.
@sleepinglion how?All of my characters were unlocked from the start in MK8 deluxe unlike wii-u where you had to earn them with gold cups. I triple starred every cup in 50 and 100 cc mode my first attempt. 150cc mode is definitely trickier but overall the AI is dumbed down from wii-u version, and I play with smart sterring/acceleration off.
The game won't even let you cut corners without a powerup when smart steering is enabled, though I could see even veterans using it in 200cc. The key to winning 200cc is knowing when to brake, and picking carts/bikes with excellent handling rather than combined speed/acceleration. Most other cc modes you hold the gas 98% of the time.
Either this is an NOAC clone with cheap upscaler, or a dumper/emulator like the Retron5. Both laggy and unacceptible IMO, each solution comes with their own set of issues. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIJQFcPzhoA
If you really need an HDMI NES, get an AVS from RETROUSB. It's lag free and 100% compatible, even plays flash carts.
Heaaaaaaaaaaaail's yes, Mario Odessy, way to suck it to da nay sayers. Mario odessy rules! Yes please, don't wanna wait till holiday! E3 will be golden. Er golden showers.... what do i know, i'm drunk...
@Beau_Skunk I have four G&W childhood originals, as well I bought a few of the keychain ones at Spencer's in my late teens to early 20s. Super Mario Bros had a hidden shortcut to Loop 3 that sadly doesn't work in the keychain version.
Wow. This is even lamer than farming items and stickers in Smash Bros 4 by sicking 8 Amiibo against each other in a 99 stock battle.
Just play the game normally. I've played 22 cups so far and earned gold trophies with triple stars on 50cc and all but two cups 100cc. I've been playing with the auto steer / auto accelerate off and triple starred every cup so far, not lost a single CPU race, and even lapped opponents a handful of times.
@Beau_Skunk Have you heard the audio quality of those Sega plug and plays? If you're referring to the AtGames junk, it is terrible. Nintendo believes in producing a quality product. They would never sublicense production to another distributor. That's a disaster waiting to happen...
There is a pawn shop with a giant gorrilla, and a car dealership with a godzilla, a western store with a giant horse man, and a seasonal fireworks stand with a dinosaur, in my town. I don't see what the big deal is, but if the city has preexisting zoning ordinances against non-seasonal inflatable lawn ornaments for businesses, he may not have much of a case.
As an old schooler who had a soft spot for Banjo and Conker, I'm optimistic. It seems these reviewers don't "get" the allure of collectathon platformers.
I "switched" my pledge so I'm all set, however long it takes!
That was epic! Down, down, down... Stupid he burnt the pot lid before sledding; that's why it broke. In practice, pot lids last just as long as a good shield so why waste your good armor? And as a bonus, he likely regained all those poor fairies after the fall.
Hordak, you mention Nvidia Shield and Nintendo Switch both causing the issue you are reporting. These are both Tegra X1 (dunno what the Fire TV stick is but I imagine it's an underpowered or older Tegra like Ouya, and the rest of the "microconsoles" that soon came after.
Could it be a chipset issue with the Tegra line of CPUs? Maybe someone with the resources could probe the HDMI connection to see what signals are getting passed around between various TV models and the Switch, and see which device is causing the hiccups, the TV or the Switch.
I don't see why disabling the wake function over HDMI through the Switch menu would still cause problems. Maybe the TV in question could have the user disable smart functions on the specific HDMI port the switch is connected to.
@NEStalgia "Actually I'd pay for a language DLC pack that adds modern casual Southern slang for Zelda. Could be fun to hear "Y'all better watch yer bee-hinds, looks like a big ol' Blood Moon's risin'!""
As a native southerner (Louisiana, specifically), I LOLed at this! XD
@Hordak I've always had to manually change the input on my 2006 Sanyo. You're making mountains out of molehills. I also have a Monoprice 4-port HDMI switch I use because I have more game systems than ports on my TV and it doesn't autoswitch either.
@stevenw45 Yes the Game Cube Adapter was under utilized and under stocked. As for the Switch, I plan on getting a set of mini-wheels for Mario Kart. I only have one Pro controller in addition to the bundled Joycons, and the Pro is by far my favorite option.
As for two player options, Pro + Joycon = 2p dual stick gaming, then many games that use motion control allow for split Joycon. So when my friend comes over for Mario Kart, we can each use the mini wheels or Joycon pair vs Pro. His choice whether we use the wheels or not.
I think ARMS is the only game that explicitly requires two pairs of joycons for two player use, and they did write in traditional dual stick control options for people who dislike motion control, but I think the game really shines with the split motion controls. If my friend and I played ARMS, and one of us used the Pro controller in dual stick mode while the other used split Joycon, that would just feel awkward and imbalanced.
I downloaded World of Goo (I have nostalgia for this game dating back to the old Wiiware days) which uses touch for portable mode and Wiimote style single Joycon for docked mode, and the Gyros are so precise that the Joycons work pretty well despite not having a sensor bar to track. Overall the Joycon seem a good deal more sensitive than the original Wiimotes, though I occasionally have to recenter them, about every two minutes or so depending on usage.
Anyway I look forward to test-driving the mini-wheels in MK8 deluxe.
@Hordak My old TV don't even support HDMI power on/off. You can also disable HDMICIC from the system menu on the Switch. Why don't people take 10 minutes to explore the system menu? I disabled it since my old 2006 display doesn't support this mode anyhow. I imagine turning this mode off internally in the Switch menu will fix your TV problems. Besides that, there is a manual "INPUT" button on your TV remote. Learn how to use it.
@stevenw45 Game Cube controllers? Where do i plug it in???
Unless you mean bring back the USB connector which officially was harder to find than an NES Mini (thanks Mayflash; you were a life saver) seriously, the PRo controller has more buttons that a Game Cube (No [-] or ZL) so adapting it to certain games (Ledgend of Zelda for instance assigns functions to EVERY SINGLE BUTTON) might be problematic.
As well adapting the analog triggers on the Game Cube controller could be problematic. A stop gap measure would be to map Z trigger to [-] and use possibly L/R for half mast, ZL/ZR for full insertion (that did not come our right). This would enable for example in Mario Sunshine VC to run around or stand still with the flood pack.
@SMW @MisterMan I'm using an old 26" 2006 Sanyo HDTV. It is 720/1080i only and the Switch apparently only outputs 720p to such older sets. My TV don't support HDMI sleep/wake anyway so I turned this feature off in the Switch system menu. Other than the text in Zelda being a bit hard to read sitting ten feet away, it's a good TV. We may need to upgrade to a 40" display sometime...
@aesc Yes the game really did lock up on me. The music continued to play but the controllers became unresponsive and the screen froze. I've been playing it solid since the game launched though, almost every day. Not really sure why it did though.
My switch crashed for the first time yesterday while trying to register a horse at a stable. Fortunately Zelda autosaved right before I reached the stable so no progress was lost. Pressing the power switch did nothing; I had to hold it down for several seconds before it turned off. Even with the CPU frozen, the switch switched from TV to portable seamlessly in hardware when I disconnected the dock.
Wow, this really blows. I was thinking about rebuying it after a time. Good point in twenty years will this game even work at all without a download. I don't see what the effing problem is. Cards go up to 32 gigabytes and with all those extra pins, load times should be just as fast if not faster than the SD cards. Unreal...
So I missed the test fire last weekend (I only read "starting march 25th" and didn't realise I had to log in at specific times) now I have to wait until august for the relaunch???
Well, crap. I just downloaded this from the eShop and assumed it would run all weekend, not just in one hour slots. I logged in every day (attempted to anyway) only to be greeted by "hasn't started yet", so figured I'd try again tomorrow. After five days in a row with the demo not working, I looked it up online and realized it was only an hour each day...
I remember playing this on Wii. Amazing you can use the joycon like a Wiimote without usage of a sensor bar, though it drifts slightly. I downloaded it yesterday and completed the first world tonight.
You can also play on the tablet, entirely using touch control.
I read this article and the first 60-something comments, which immediately devolved into a crapstorm that I'd rather not get into.
Maybe Playtonic should have quietly dealt with the matter, but I'm not going to judg their decision to act publicly rather than be discrete about it.
Regardless I do not care for this Jon guy and whether his voice is in the game or not. The game will be pleanty fun and stand on it's own merits. I'm looking forward to getting my Switch edition...
Another thing, am I the only person who already played MK8 and Lego City U and actually excited about playing them again? MK8 was a great game, possibly the greatest Mario Kart ever made, with all DLC and 200cc out of the box, plus proper battle stages this time around. It's actually a better game than what players got at Wii-u launch. No need to reinvent the wheel...
And Lego City Undercover is the best Lego game ever released IMO, so i don't mind playing through the main story again. I'll probably wait until it hits the bargain bin the second time around, but rebuying MK8 day one, and getting the mini wheels as I'm somewhat nostalgic for the old Wii wheels. Also getting Puyo-Puyo Tetris as I am a fan of both classic titles.
I plan on leaving the Joycons always attached to the Switch tablet (except for games requiring separate joycon like ARMs, or multiplayer apps with either split joycon or dual joycon + pro) and using the joycon for portable play and the Pro controller for docked play.
Only announced game so far that seems to explicitly require a second pair of joycon for multiplayer is ARMs. For the rest, two player dual stick with joycons + pro, or two player split joycon, seems adequate.
And while I feel the directional buttons won't be as bad as people seem to think for old school gaming, you're just doing it wrong without the Dpad for VC, 2D indie platformers, or Ultra SFII. So I value the Pro controller over an extra set of Joycon for that reason.
Too many Links. I have the Smash series, Wolf Link from Twilight HD bundle, and I did get the pixel Link to match my pixel Marios, but seriously. I've already stumbled across Ocarina Link as well as the Windwaker Toon Link/Zelda combo set while browsing at Gamestop so not sure why those are considered leaks when they are already on store shelves. Do we really need clones of Link and Zelda from nearly every game in the series? I'd rather collect Amiibo figures for NPCs and other characters from the franchise. I also reserved a Guardian because that thing is Boss. Who doesn't want a tentacle monster Amiibo with posable arms?
Bank flags the charge as fradulent. Customer contacts bank to clear the hold, then contacts the retailer to retry the card. Amazon had a preorder get denied last fall because I lost my wallet and had to cancel the card. Later that same day I lost the card, someone returned my wallet to me but the bank already issued a new card...
Anyway when the charge got declined, they gave me a 48 hour grace period with which to update payment info prior to cancellation, and got it fixed. In the case of a preorder item, a card processing error could cause a delay in shipment but I like to think a reputable business would contact the customer first rather than autocancel the order.
As long as demand is met by Christmas 2017. I've got preorder tucked away, but if stock shortages of NES Classic Mini are a preview of things to come, I'll be very worried.
Link between worlds had a red and blue tunic. IIRC, one of them decreased damage to 50%, the other 25%. Great aid to defeating the game. Perhaps different color robes will have stat boosting qualities?
