Moving any title from the Wii U to the 3DS is inevitably going to come with a fairly heavy graphical downgrade, but with Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World the game stands up fairly well. Most notably the frame rate retains its glorious 60fps throughout (on New 3DS) and on the whole runs like butter.
Make sure you check out the video above where you can see both versions of the game running side-by-side and draw your own conclusions.

Heh, not half bad looking.
It will do for on the go gaming for those that don't have any other option. Excellent game though but we'll stick with the Wii U version.
I'm curious about the differences. Does it still have the miiverse stamps? I noticed during the video some of the bead placement seemed different.
It's a 2D sidescroller that looks like it's made out of yarn. It shouldn't really matter how it looks on the Wii U, it looks great for a 3DS game, that's what matters.
I suppose it could matter more if they released at the same time and you wanted to pick one, but this game is over a year old now on Wii U, so graphical comparisons shouldn't matter anymore.
Played it already on Wii U, going to download the demo now just b/c.
Oh Sackboy what did Nintendo do to you?
The 3DS version doesn't like that bad, thay did a very good job.
wow, looks great on the 3DS version!
Played the demo and I thought it was great. I played it on a 2ds and it's great for on the go. Relaxing gameplay. Wii u is obviously graphically better but this is good. Would been nice to put a stage with pooochi in the demo
I hope they bring it to switch. Im planning to buy only games for the Switch and PC this time. No more wiiU, no more ps4 or Xbone etc.
SWITCH all the way.
Very respectable graphics on the 3DS. The Wii U is still where the game should be played though. It's one of my favourite Wii U games and doesn't get enough praise.
The game runs flawlessly on both 3ds models. It's quite marvelous.
@Hikingguy it's the same game with some extras.
@bstoppel the miiverse stamps seem to be replaced by patterns for the pattern creation tool.
@rjejr True. And that's a sound and logical argument. But as we have seen before, the gaming community can be a special bunch sometimes. Logic and common sense tends to be pushed to the side for entitlement and being argumentative
Also, I've actually never played the game before. So I guess maybe for someone like me who hasn't, this might be a needed comparison (if graphics were that important to you).
It's really not bad.
I haven't finished the Wii U version yet, so I'll be passing on the port. (I'm glad it exists though, because Yoshi's New Island is a disgrace to the Yoshi name!)
Looks pretty good actually. I will get that game at some point I think
I totally wanna double dip, something I never do, But it was soo fun on Wii U, played co-op so it might be somewhat different to go at it alone....
I actually commented about this on the YouTube video... but I'll say it again, the 3DS version is looking pretty intact. Obviously the Wii U version is more detailed, no argument there, but definitely worth playing if you only have a 3DS!
Nothing can stop me from double dipping on this! Those poochie levels!
@LegendOfPokemon New Island made me very sad. There was always a Yoshi shaped hole in the 3DS that I never forgot about and its totally been filled with this port
Will wait for deluxe Switch version.
@RoomB31 it's definitely more fun co-op. I play the game with my kids. Never need to worry about lives. That's the only downside to the 3ds port.
@UK-Nintendo I'd argue that being eaten and then spat out into a pit frequently can get irritating, but otherwise co-op is great!
@bstoppel No more stamps. Must be because they are trying to kill off Miiverse.
@RoomB31 lol. True
This should be ported to the Switch.
It looks almost as if it's been painstakingly recreated from the ground up to be exactly the same.
Remarkably similar, but the Wii U version is essential because those finer details really elevate it to irresistible levels.
@Manjushri As it happens, I got a copy of Yoshi's Island DS recently and was giving it a test run today, and you're not wrong - the basic gameplay is identical.
This was my 6 year olds first game he ever beat. We played it together, but was adament about collecting and unlocking every yarn yoshi. I have to double dip just because he saw that it was coming to 3ds and is always asking why we don't have it. It is just too bad co-op is gone. I do hope it runs just as smooth on reg 3ds. He claiming mine last year when I got a n3ds, which he even noticed mario maker runs better on mine, so he's started playing mine more. Which is why I can't wait for switch.
Downloaded the demo, it's absolutely beautiful on Wii U, a joy to play, but it looks pretty great on my New Nintendo 3DS! 3D is good too, I do enjoy it on the New models.
Well, I'm happy with it. Got DQVIII arriving tomorrow and P&YWW with Amiibo pre-ordered from Amazon.
@Jumpman I thought the same about fuzzyness appeal
I will stick with the WiiU version but I'll get the demo.
@rjejr I'll stick with the Wii u.I did get it just for the amiibo
looks bad to me but eh nintendo games were never about graphics.
Kawaii da na...
Maybe I will try 3DS version since I have never tried Wii U version.
I own it on Wii U and you better believe I'm getting it for my favorite gaming system ever, 3DS.
Will be playing the demo tonight!
The 3DS screen is too low-res to properly display the fine stitching anyway. Glad they went for framerate over detail on this one. And especially I'm glad they didn't go for both compromised framerate AND detail as in DKCR3DS.
It's probably one of the best platformers of the decade; just such a complete package in every desirable way. It makes me feel like the 90s never went away.
So I've been enjoying this on my Wii-U and the 3DS game looks almost identical. Any reason to pick up the 3DS version?
I gotta admit, those visuals are very impressive for a low-res port and very clean, it's like the wii u version except with a blur filter.
Probably the most justice a Wii U to 3DS port has gotten yet, and that's saying something with Wolly World.
@StarDust4Ever for on-the-go gaming and to see the little extras.
I've been playing the demo on my New 3DS. The video, as usual, doesn't do this port justice, especially when the 3D is bumped up.
I don't like the lighter colours. Otherwise good though.
I just played the demo on the New 3DS XL and the game looks really good on the small screen. I don't have the Wii U version but just judging the portable version, when you play it, it does not look like a downgraded port, in fact it is a beautiful looking game especially in 3D.
Yoshi looks like playdoh on the 3DS and everything has lost its soft sponginess when Yoshi lands, but ah well, looks good otherwise.
Still won't buy it.
@KidRad If you like that look, you can easily adjust your TV settings.
Nintendo abandon the Wii U a long time ago. How a console with no momentum that u want to sell u stop advertising, no price drop and you move the exclusive games to other console aka the 3DS. It was destine to never sell the poor console.
Also doesn't help either that the 3DS versions has more or better content despite the natural downgrade in graphics. I want this game on 3DS.
Wow I'm impressed. Think this, Monster Hunter Stories and a few other games are truly breathtaking to behold considering the 3DS's hardware.
Just played the demo on my 3DS XL. There is definitely a difference in framerate between the New 3DS and Old 3DS, but at least there's no input lag. I'm pleasantly surprised with this game!
